I generally find it amusing when characters break the fourth wall, and I was trying to think of what shows have examples of it (the only one I could think of off-hand was Excel Saga).

What shows have characters addressing the audience?

Hayate no Gotoku likes to punch holes in the fourth wall on a regular basis and one episode completely annihilates it.

Oh! Edo Rocket goes through it numerous times.

Shingu has one character (the main male lead) break the fourth wall on a regular basis, with all of the other characters looking at him and wondering what he's doing.

Hmmm.. Jubei-chan 2 has multiple instances where the characters talk about their role in the previous season, and in one case they even pull back the episode's title card to check it again.

Maybe not quite addressing the audience, but pretty close to what you're looking for, I think.

I could of swore Excel Saga had a bit. The whole swimsuit episode where Excel specifically mentions the loli

The Slayers franchise thrives on breaking of the fourth wall and offhand references to fantasy cliches.

First and last episodes of FLCL, not coincidently the only episodes that have the manga scenes.

Martian Successor Nadescio does it on a regular basis. With things like how they address their recap episode. At one point, one of the characters does a short monologue and another character asks who she is talking to, and she responds "the forth wall". Of course, that's the dub version and I dont recall if the Japanese track featured that.

As said though, Shingu is probably one of the best examples of a character breaking the fourth wall. Hajime does it regularly in his role as narrator, and his character actually does differentiate when he is "on screen" and when he is in narrator mode making it rather interesting really.

I'm a little eager for Shingu to arrive.... based on this information, I'm growing anticipation for it....

Hellsing & Hellsing Ultimate - Seras Victoria does this off handedly and randomly....

Grumble Grumble Grumble

And 'Magical Project S', (original title 'Magical Girl Pretty Sammy'), written as a spoof of the Magical Girl genre, does this on a regular basis... ('Kids, don't do this at home'...)

I'm sure a lot of Ruri's comments, & "baka"s about her felloe crew are to the audience. Minoto addresses the audience in PoD, & of course the narrator does in MSN TV.

Paniponi Dash! did it at least once (as far as I can remember) in the first episode, when Rei asks the viewers, "So, you ever wonder what the hell's going on behind the scenes of this school?"

Not only that some of the scenes of the series make it look like you're watching the actual set of the series.

Would the Big O Season 2 apply to this at all? I mean.... seeing the sets of the characters and how everything broke down near the end....it certainly felt like this but not exactly like this....
