I'm a Bleach fan, but somehow Naruto leaves me cold. Does anyone else find themeslves feeling the same?

True Naruto doesn't have Rukia :nosebleed: but even with an equivalent Naruto & co would not have the appeal Bleach does to me. Maybe I'm too old for the teenage angle.

Naruto really doesn't appeal to me. I just think of it as the next generation DBZ. I love Bleach. Characters and storyline is really good. Even the fillers are watchable.

I didn't watch any but the reason is that i don't like watching ongoing shows/unfinished shows. But i'll definitely watch Bleach once it's completed (whenever that happens). As for Naruto, maybe but not a priority.

I watch Bleach and I consider it good enough to get in sets, so while not a huge fan, I have a positive opinion of the series. There are parts of it, the usual shonen fighting cliches, that wear a little thin on me, but the characters are interesting enough for me to want to continue the journey.

Naruto, on the other hand, I've tried to watch several times on Cartoon Network, and it's never clicked with me. I don't know if I can quite put my finger on it, but it just doesn't appeal to my tastes.

Tricky answer. While the easy answer would be for me to say I easily prefer Bleach over Naruto (which, despite giving it a lot of chances, I could never quite get into, plus Naruto's VA annoyed me), Bleach has frustrated me numerous times with how long it takes for anything to happen. Specifically, the Soul Society arc just dragged on and on, despite some decent moments in there like anything with Yoruichi.

I dunno. Maybe I'm just not one for long-running shonen series.

Oh yes! I like Bleach but despise Naruto. I think part of it is that the female characters in Naruto, when they appear at all, are never allowed to actually be effective. This irritates me.

Also, ninjas who wear orange? WTF?

Same here, I like Bleach but just haven't been able to get into Naruto. I'm not sure why exactly, but Naruto just doesn't appeal to me.

I like Bleach but don't care for Naruto.

Don't ask me why I just don't.

I think both are derivative and bring nothing much new to the Shounen Jump universe but prefer Naruto to Bleach. And despite not being a huge fan of either I'm collecting both like a sucker :)

The females in Bleach aren't much better than the females in Naruto for being useless (aside from one whose name was already mentioned by Boris) but that's the way most SJ titles are. Naruto is just DB with ninja but it has a few more awesome characters I latched onto than Bleach. Like Kakashi, Guy and the gigantic frog. I like all the grown ups more than the main characters. The only ones I really like in Bleach are Hitsugaya and Zaraki.

I got into Naruto back when Viz's Shonen Jump magazine had just started and I started watching the anime when I got tired of waiting for each issue at the end of the Zabuza arc. I never liked Naruto himself much, but I figured he would get better and it had enough going for it to keep my interest for a little while. I enjoyed the series through the Chuunin exam arc and while I liked certain bits and pieces after that, my interest in the series steadly declined after the exam arc ended. All the problems the series had just got worse in Shippuden.

I recently began trying to catch up with Shippuden, but I found it increasingly hard to care about anything or anyone in the series. I cringe at Guy and Lee's stupid antics. Naruto is still the same brat he always was, the character designs didn't age well and new characters are a mixed bag. The Akatsuki guys are fine, but seriously, what's with Sai's bare midriff? I also have to try really hard to ignore the stupidity (i.e. the anditote thing; and how does a wooden doll bleed from its mouth?) but it can be really hard.

And then there is the fact that its SO. DAMN. SLOW. The last episode I watched spent five minutes with everyone basically staring in awe at a particular character. That was it. FOR FIVE MINUTES. At this point, I'm just forcing myself to continue simply because I've seen so much already. I have far better things to do with my time. I'm done with Naruto. I don't care anymore. I'm not spending five more hours to catch up to where its at now, and I'm not going to continue wasting my time with this for another five to ten years.

Bleach, on the other hand, I still enjoy quite a bit though it certainly has its problems. I like the cast and aside from certain 'comic relief' bits, there isn't anything that particularly annoys me. At least for the episodes that have a decent budget. Yeah, there's a lot of filler, but it's at least decent more often than not.

I am a really big fan of Bleach (getting the singles) But I do not watch Naruto anymore. The theme of Bleach interest me much more. And, in my opinion, the Bleach fillers are so much better.

I can't say that I have a favorite as I like all three of the holy shonen trinity.... Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece

They aren't my absolute favorites, but I like them the same. All three are shows that you really can't take too serious

The hype around Naruto always put me off. Bleach I do enjoy, even if it isn't my favourite series I've still bought the first few DVDs twice since to get the box (and gave the others away). I have the first volume of Naruto as it was cheap and my friend likes it, but I failed to complete it in one sitting and have never been motivated to pick it up an finish it.

Big fan of Bleach but even I can see that its getting stale. Don't want to post any spoilers but I'm glad the negative chapters came out. All the fighting was getting boring and this was a great way to bring back characters and story back into the fold. I love BLeach for the characters, awesome secondary cast even if they aren't use too often. As for Naruto, it should be renamed to Sasuke. I stopped caring for this series when the time skip happened. I felt it was complete shit (IMO). Part 1 was great but part 2 is BS. I feel that he's writing and taking shit out of his ass sometimes. Just end the thing already. I still read it time to time to see where its going and its not going anywhere. THe last 4 chapters were the same shit over again, repeated, just worded differently. I hope someone else still reading this can see this.

I guess like a lot of people around here, I like Bleach, but not a huge fan of Naruto. But that just might be because I haven't seen much of Naruto and haven't been compelled to watch it either though.

I like both, but much prefer Bleach.

Once the Naruto characters got older (Shippuuden series) it became more enjoyable for me.

I have no interest in the Toonami version of Naruto.

From what I've been hearing from friends and the internet, Shippuden progresses very slowly, in comparison to the manga. You're likely to be better off reading the manga, unless you don't mind it being drawn out, or just don't care in general.

As for Bleach vs. Naruto, I had heard of Naruto first, but I heard about it during a time where I was primarily only watching anime on TV, and it was also prior to me being an anime fan. I didn't look for downloads at the time, nor did I read it in Shonen Jump or anything, as I read my friend's SJ too infrequently to really get into anything. Ultimately, I didn't start Naruto until it began its Canadian broadcast on YTV, six days after CN's premiere.

As for Bleach, my cousin borrowed some burned copies of the fansubs off of her friend, and she told me that if I wanted to watch them, then I could go ahead and do so. I had heard of Bleach from reading Shonen Jump, but I never really gave it much thought. So I thought, "hey, why not?" and watched the episodes available to me (the first 16 episodes).

Needless to say, I ended up really liking Bleach. Even now, I find that Bleach has an edgier feel to it, and it feels like it's for teens, whereas Naruto skews slightly lower in terms of its core audience. Asterick was an awesome OP theme, and the characters were pretty interesting to me as well. The first arc still remains to be my favourite arc in the series, because of how much I liked the high school setting. I was really hooked after those 16 episodes, and at that point, I was already beginning to use DDL sites, so it wasn't long before I went on a crusade to catch up. I ultimately caught up by Episode 49/50, just as everything was beginning to unfold.

I have fallen behind on Bleach since (the last new episode I've seen is 96), though I am continuing on with the story through SJ. I'm still following Naruto through its TV broadcast (filler just started in Canada), though I am reading the story after the time skip through SJ, as well. I do like Naruto, but I have to say, I like Bleach more.

A couple days ago, I picked up a volume of Shonen Jump just to see where Naruto and Bleach were at for kicks. Shonen Jump started "part 2", the Shippuden portion, in January. It's already at the point that Shippuden took about 25 episodes to reach.

I actually like Naruto more than Bleach. For me Naruto has better character development and the plots are better written. There's just not really a character in Bleach that I can get attached to. I like Bleach okay, but for a long time the story didn't seem to have any direction. It's gotten better, but still falls far behind Naruto in terms of likable characters.

Merciful Zeus, yes! I cannot fathom the appeal of Naruto, nor the almost religious fervour that surrounds the show, while I find Bleach eminently enjoyable.

I love Bleach myself.... I found myself stopped around episode 32 or so, due to a few reasons. However, I like the show enough to wait for sets and not the singles.... Naruto? I have tried quite a few times and it does nothing for me... I find it boring and the characters annoy me...

I have watched the 1st three vols of Naruto it was funny and ok, but then it seemed more like Pokemon or something. So I don't watch it anymore it just wasn't interesting enough. I LOVE Bleach though just watched the 10th disc hella awesome!
I also have bought the two preo ordered box sets of Bleach.

I agree with you. I guess I'm the opposite kind of fan this thread is aimed at, though I'll say I don't watch the anime of either. I only read the Naruto manga and dropped Bleach a long time ago. People enjoy 'em for different reasons, so I have nothing against Bleach fans. =)

Yep, it is all different tastes that make the world. I realy like better a fan saying: (example) I like more Bleach than Naruto. (speaking only about him) Then someone saying: I like better Bleach because Naruto it is crap. (In his perspective perhaps, but how can he talk about all the people?)...

Thats why I always add "IMO" after I display my likes and dislikes for something. You can see it in my earlier post in this topic when I called Naruto Shippuden crap. It boils down to that, your opinion, and tastes.

It took me awhile to respond. But actually I prefer Naruto over Bleach. Don't get me wrong, I love Bleach but to me Naruto has much more redeeming qualities in terms of characterization and story. Unfortunely, One Piece, beats both of them because it keeps me interested on a weekly basis.
But here are my reasons, Bleach started off very well, had good characterization, and plot development. Even during the Soul Society arc with all the fighting it never overwhelmed the story. Then after that the fights took such a ridiculous focus that it did hurt the story and, on top of that, they took ANOTHER female character made her helpless and created yet ANOTHER "rescue arc" with the same characters plus two more. Then it just became one big dragged out battle and more battles for several episodes. I don't mind Shonen Jump style battles but the way it's done it Bleach I just want them to get it over with.

Naruto still mananges to tell a story and develop it's characters gradually. There have been more characters developed and plot progression in the last 50 chapters of Naruto then the last 50 chapters of Bleach (manga wise, since the anime for both are in filler land right now).

Shonen is as Shonen does, I think we can all agree that the modern-day Holy Shonen Trinity (Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece) have a lot in common.

Sometimes the story drags with filler
Sometimes the fights last forever
Sometimes the character content is either too light or too heavy

I think we could argue the pros and cons until all three shows finish... and then some. However, it is always nice to see what everyone's take is on their favortie shonen anime even if they're all alike in some sense ;)

I think the only reason I like Naruto so much at this point is because I've been reading it for 5+ years, back when I was pretty much obsessed with only one series at a time (and it happened to be the only shounen I had any interest in; nothing was cliché to me). I like One Piece a lot, too, but I'm nowhere near able to keep up with it at this point.

I actually like both, although I think Bleach has an edge on Naruto. The characters are slightly older and I like the whole Soul Society idea. I way prefer Ichigo over Naruto. With Naruto, I like the side characters much more than the main three. Shikamaru, Choji and Shino are my favorites. When Naruto (the anime) gets going though, it can rival Bleach for action, IMO.

I definitely prefer marathoning both of these anime over watching them week by week. Weekly episodes drag on WAY too long.

However, I've dumped both of them a few months ago because I can't stand the filler and snail pace storyline. I'm buying Naruto Uncut up to the filler episodes and Bleach Uncut up to the end of the Soul Society arc, and then I'm done. I've switched to manga for both of them so the events will happen faster.

I've pretty much given up on Naruto as well. It was good until the fillers started, but everything after that was just pure crap. Unless the show picks up the pace drastically at some point, I'll never watch another episode after 135 again. I still think Bleach is fairly decent though, so I'll keep buying that even after Soul Society ends. Episode 166 was actually among the best episodes I've seen in that show, although I somehow get the impression that that one episode was the main reason why they had to do fillers... (Or, it was propably because they always do at least two chapters per episode, which doesn't quite work out when they're so close to the manga... but looking at Naruto, I think I prefer Bleach's pacing, even though it resulted in a random filler-arc that doesn't fit into continuity.)

I still think One Piece always has been, and always will be twice as good as both of them though. The pacing is actually somewhat decent in OP, so it feels like something actually HAPPENS in each chapter, unlike Naruto, which spent a whole chapter basically like this: Running, person standing on a hill, they are shocked, person still standing on a hill, Naruto shows up and sees person standing on a hill, CHAPTER END. ...Yeah, that was lame.

I agree with this post. I'm on Naruto uncut box set 4 and it's really creative and has a great storyline. Much better than Yu Yu Hakusho, which I watched the first 40 episodes for.

And I agree the show should've been called Sasuke. I actually don't mind Sasuke being more of a MC anyway since he is much cooler than the annoying brat.
