They say S2 is canceled but they will do a new animation for Haruhi instead... new original anime only story? So they decided to no longer follow the books. That way they can bring back Ryoko =)

Long Hair Haruhi + Asakura Ryoko means that they are animating book 4.
They're just being cute about it.

Yeah, same gimmick that was in the initial announcements, being blown out of proportion by a few hysterics who don't know what they're talking about.

They're just being cute about it.
Something we can expect a lot of until it airs, heh. Of course they won't cancel Haruhi 2, and they'll definitely follow the books.

so book 2 and 3 is being skipped? were they boring?
regardless Ryoko was my fav and it didnt hurt that the english va is one of my favorites =)
if they go right into book 4 will we understand what is happening due to the I guess time shift back to when Ryoko is back...

They did three, that was the short stories. There is one more story from it they need to do before they can cover the fourth novel, however...
Two was them making the movie shown in episode 0...
You've kind of seen the good bits, but they could easily spend a couple of episodes taking care of it. Definitely the slightest of the books (that I've found time to read.)

Out of curiosity, the translation of what was said in the article strikes me as rather sketchy, can you confirm if its accurate or not?

It seems to have missed the point.
They didn't want to make a second season; they wanted to do a clean reset and act like it was a new project, so that they wouldn't all slip into a comfort zone and just coast along in the same frame of mind as they had after the first series.

"We're not doing The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2 we're doing the all new Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya!" kind of thing.

I like the fact that they want to do a new project from the ground up instead of basically making more of the same and slapping a "Haruhi Season 2" sticker on it.

Which makes a whole lot of sense, really. The series has sort of taken on the umbrella title of "Melancholy" but that's not really accurate. It's in fact *not* "Melancholy 2", and so it makes sense for them not to treat it as such.
Of course, they're mostly just doing this to get back in the news, but it's logical nonetheless :sd:

For s***s and giggles, they should animate the Kyonko/gender swap thing. With Haruhi, you never know.

The only other things that we know about are the Lucky Star OVA and Clannad: After Story. As far as I know, there has not been any projected air dates for the Haruhi series. I'm not even sure if there is a projected air date for Clannad: After Story.
You have to remember that Kyo Ani is a smaller studio as well, so while the success of the first Haruhi was amazing to watch, they can't pull a Sunrise or a Madhouse and work on multiple high end projects at once.

Correct. Besides, I’d rather them take their time and give us the high quality that they are known for, instead of pumping out poorly animated stuff that has to be fixed for the DVD release.
