We will now pause as Vicserr convulses on the floor in paroxysms of joy.
Ok.

And yes, that is "Z Mazinger", not "Mazinger Z".

Oh hell yes!
Bring on JAM Project as well for the blood-pumping intro!

Nice!
Imagawa is the best mecha director around, so this is great news.

Wow. Cool to see them mine one of the more obscure Mazinger properties, plus Imagawa heading the project instills a lot of confidence.
Totally can’t wait to see the character and robot designs…

SO the new Mazinger anime will be an adaptation of this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z_Mazinger) manga?
Either way it's nice to finally find out some info on the new Mazinger... I was just wondering today whether we'll hear any news of it soon.

Yep, thats the one.
Apparently the character designs will be in "classic" style, while hte mecha designs will be in "modern" style.

Although i was waiting for the Mazinger Z news but a Z Mazinger adaption (for the first time) is something i always wanted to have too. The manga were 5 volumes so a 26 Eps TV series would be more than enough to for a faithful adaption plus some additional stories too :)
The part i like the most about the news "The character design is going to be done in the classic, old school style, but the mechs will be done in a modern style". Pretty much what i would expect from a Go Nagai show :)

Well, Moon Phase says it's going to be "based" on the manga, but will be an anime-original story. The interview with Go Nagai that first mentioned this (which Moon Phase helpfully links to) also seemed to suggest that the anime will gather "all" the Mazingers together. It sounds to me like another Giant Robo-type project, which bears the name of one property but will actually gather all of the author's different properties together into one original story.
The site also says this anime will air this winter.

As long as 'modern style' doesn't mean cg mechs, then I gots no problem with it. :) I just can't imagine Go Nagai's robots done in the same style as say, Vandread, Macross Zero or last year's Giant Robo. It just doesn't fit 'em one bit.
Of course I could be worrying over nothing - 'twould be better to wait 'til the character designs show up and so on. I'm still going to watch it though. It's fecking Mazinger. Wouldn't miss this for the world. :)

From the guy who did GIANT ROBO? OH MY GOD. I am so there. *convulses with Vicserr*
I have no previous Mazinger viewing experience, so I guess this would be a good series to get into it? I'm not familar with the franchise at all(which is a shame).

This should be a completely self contained story with no real connections to the other mazinger shows, OVAs, and whatnot. Much like the various Getter OVAs.

Good to hear that then, that makes me even more excited for this show now. Looking forward to it. *continues convulsing*

The original quote is really more like "today's highly-detailed style". Look at the Mazinkaiser OVA - the old mechs were drawn in a very simple, old-school style. I think what they mean is that the mechs in Z Mazinger will be highly redesigned to look more modern.
On the subject of mech design, the news post also says that the new Scrander will wrap around Mazinger, Gundam Deathscythe-style, and transform the body into a giant Rocket Punch. I can't even begin to imagine what that looks like, although it certainly sounds very Imagawa-ish.

JOYGASM!!!:knowitall:
I'm a bit less ecstatic because it's not Mazinger Z but any Mazinger property in the air is a thrill. It's wickedly cool that there will be a Mazinger on tv and with 26 episodes and Yasuhiro Imagawa at the helm, it should be EPIC!

Wow, it already sounds epic.
Haven't gotten around to seeing any of the Mazinger franchise, but Giant Robo is one of my absolute favorites.
So I look forward to this, hope it comes soon.

Great to hear that Imagawa is getting another crack at a Go Nagai series (after his leaving the production of Getter Robo Armageddon after three episodes due to creative differences). Though I consider his Giant Robo OVA to be a masterpiece, G Gundam was definently not so, one of those problems being that the longer episode length seemed to point out flaws in his ability to tell a well done, epic story over that period. I never saw Tetsujin-28 (also done by Z Mazinger animators Palm Studio), so I can't say whether or not he skills improved by helming just a 26 episode series, but I do hope that his effort with this new show is better. If he could channel that mastery and energy from GR and keep it as thorough and constant as possible (unlike in G Gundam, where decent episodes were spotty and the few really good ones were truly few in number) and he avoids the pitfalls of his problems, then Z Mazinger has a chance at being successful.
On a side note, does Boss Borat=Jerid? :P

Wow, I really need to catch up on my Mazinger lore! That said, I really need a new fix of Mazinger goodness and an old-fashioned style mecha series done by Yasuhiro Imagawa sounds too good to be true!
Now if only some studio will be willing to produce this Go Nagai series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazinger_Angels) as well!:beatingheart::beatingheart::beatingheart:

Yup i would also like an anime adaption for Mazinger Angels, though i would prefer it to be after the long awaited Mazinger Z sequel (which Go Nagai promised last year). Also, so far there are only 4 volumes of the manga, and 1 of Mazinger Angels Z. So perhaps they'er waiting for more volumes to be released (if there will be) before adapting it into anime. What i really wish for is an anime adaption for Dynamic Heroes (ダイナミックヒーローズ) ! This one can easily be used as the Mazinger sequel.

Tetsujin is a lot more consistent than G Gundam, but it was very deliberately paced. Felt like a permanent slow boil and I never got to the pay off. (I only watched like, two discs of the Japanese release.)
He's promised the new series will start off with a bang, though, so I'm hopeful.

Do remember that Tetsujin 28 originally came before the Super Robot age and the storyline of the remake reflects that type of storytelling. And with Z Mazinger been a Go Nagai property, more than a Bang is guaranteed!

I'm late to the party, as usual. But this is good news indeed. I suspected that Imagawa could not stay out of the Director's chair for too long.
If this gets the Mitsuteru Yokoyama amalgam treatment like the GR OVA, then one could go in with no prior knowledge of Go Nagai/Mazinger and enjoy the story just fine. But, for the viewers that do know "who's who" and "what's what", there will be an added layer of excitement/surprise when characters appear in a slightly different context from their original source material. (I think the biggest shock in GR was when Big Fire made his appearance.)
I so hope this will be the case for Z Mazinger... I can't wait for more info.
