This is vague (as these threads always are :) ) but I was trying to remember the name of a series I watched last century, possibly on VHS.

A woman was part of a team of (police? private detectives? mercenaries?) in one city. In the episode I remember the team was sent to another city to escort a religous leader back to their own city. There were gun battles in the other city, then battles on the road between cities -- and I vaguely recall them travelling in a tank or other mecha.

Spoliers that made the episode less generic:
I think a kid gave the woman a toy? ball? gift? with a tracking device. The religous leader may have been a double / decoy.

Was it one of the Patlabor series?

That does sound very Patlabor-ish but I can't confirm it as such at the moment. Let me do a little research.

If the main character is a catgirl then I am sure that it is Hyper Police.

Yeah, sounds like Hyper Police, although I don't remember any mecha.

There were mecha-like flying machines. (Hyper Police screenshots (http://anisearch.de/index.php?page=anime&id=605).)

Definitely Hyper Police, that Toy was a bell that Natsuki wore around her neck.

It's on DVD, just not sure if you can buy it any more. That story is split between DVD 3 and 4.

Thanks! I'd completely forgotten that they were catpeople.

Greencine still has it, so I can rent it to see how it holds up before looking for used copies.
