I wonder if they announce when they will finish releasing Hellsing soon. How any have been released in Japan BTW?

Tofurkey

Orihime: If wikipedia is correct, Hellsing will be done in about 10 volumes.

Anyway, I'd just like DH to get with the 21st century and re-release OMG at a faster rate-not to mention give 3x3 Eyes and YUA second chances.

I believe the author has stated that he planned it to be 10 volumes. 9 volumes have come out in Japan and its still going. Based on where things were in volume 8, it looks to be ending soon, but I have no idea how close to ending the most recent Japanese chapters are. It could end up going a bit longer than originally planned.

Yup, the first three will be released quarterly but will be released on a bimonthly basis from volume four.

Gantz is being released slow, because Mature manga has a smaller available market than Teen manga, and, as a result, the company needs to gauge the demand for this title.

HitokiriShadow

Gantz is being released slow,

But its not being released slowly. Most titles are released quarterly or slower. Gantz is starting out quarterly (normal) and then speeding up to bimonthly a few volumes in.

Tofurkey

Well, slow, according to the standards of other people. I'm fine with how it's going so far, especially considering it's an on-going series.

Unfortunately Eden Vol. 11 won't be released until February 4, 2009 :(. This was posted by Philip Simon a Editor at Dark Horse.

Hello, friends -- just popping in to confirm that our (direct market comic book store) on-sale date for EDEN volume 11 is February 4, 2009! Kumar's well into translating this volume, and I'll post again when it's time to let your local comic book retailer know that it's orderin' time!
Thanks to everyone who's been supporting EDEN -- I'll be here fighting to keep it endless.
Best,
-Philip

Crap. And I just got volume ten just a few weeks ago.

Man, I better leave myself a huge, poster-sized note above my desk reminding me to pre-order Eden 11 sometime next year.

And when will he be done, since we're catching up to the Japanese release?

There was a quote from Miura I read online about a year or so ago where he mentioned that he was about 1/3 of the way through his vision of Berserk. So, it looks like if he stays on course, we will have YEARS of Berserk to come...

I'll see if I can find that quote...

AkitoZ
06-30-2008, 05:34 PM
But if it is really true that Miura is only 1/3 of the way through, he might not be alive to see it through to the end cause it'd be roughly another 35 years :depressed:

I don't expect Berserk to ever have a proper ending. It will keep (slowly) chugging along until Miura dies or just can't write any more.

Guys, Miura is turning 42 in two weeks. He's been working on Berserk for nearly two decades now. And the word is that he's halfway through the manga, not a third.

I tend to be pessimistic, but come now.

(I'll also add that Dark Horse would rock my fucking world if they licensed the five-volume reprints of The World is Mine, but that would be a miracle.)

CLOVER #4 was taken from the Dark Horse Industry Panel at AX on 7/4/08.
Whoever took it please return it immediately to the Dark Horse booth in the AX dealer room.
Dark Horse just wants their copy back and will accept this as a simple mistake. This is a copy used in production and not getting it back will impact future cons and passing out audience copies to review.

(I personally would not be so quick not to punish, but I did promise the nice Dark Horse people to get the word out about the stolen Clover #4. **Note: witnesses said they saw who took the manga, but Dark Horse doesn't want to make a big deal out of it and just wants their copy back.)

Manga.About.com (http://manga.about.com/b/2008/07/05/anime-expo-08-dark-horse-to-release-new-evangelion-manga-in-09.htm) has some more info:

In this version, Asuka and Shinji are childhood friends. Yui Ikari, Shinji's mother, who is M.I.A. in the original Evangelion story is alive and featured more prominently. Rei is a distant relative of Shinji's from Yui's side of the family. "This is a different Evangelion manga, and it's more about friendship and romance and comedy. It's a kind of reshuffling and re-imagining of the original story."

Set for a Late Spring / Early Summer 2009 release, The Shinji Ikari Raising Project will also feature fan art by American Eva fans -- so look for more announcements to come about how to send in your pictures to be featured in the first volume.

Sure, but affecting existing DH titles, or titles they may have been going for that Kodansha will now do on their own?

EDIT: though like rpd I can't find mention of this from any report on the panel. Seems a trite important that it would be. Source?

So, I would guess then that Narutaru is probably reverting to Kodansha?

I doubt that Dark Horse would continue to pay any money for the license, since they clearly have no plans to continue with it.

That gives me hope that Kodansha might consider publishing it uncensored and in full. (A very little bit of hope, but...)

It's already been reported that DH lost the Akira license when Kodansha pulled it back. It's assumed it will be one of the launch titles for their new line of manga. I can only imagine that's what Carl was talking about when he mentioned them being affected by Kodansha's new venture.

The report at Giapet (http://giapet.net/2008/07/04/ax08-dark-horse/) makes mention of your comment from Carl about the Kodansha titles. He doesn't confirm Akira being pulled, though the writer makes a snarky insertion about it being the title being referred to.

Right, I forgot about that. Thanks. But in the spirit of my speculation, did they literally pull the license, or was it up and simply didn't allow Dark Horse to renew it in anticipation for the movie tie-in re-release? The latter is what I assumed. I mean, there's an assumption that given a standard contract Kodansha couldn't easily just cancel stuff without good reason (and Del Rey and TP seem to have indicated so far that Kodansha hasn't done that to their titles) unless, of course, it was a contract where they could do just that. Oh, well.

It's hard to say for sure. We're still very much in the 'speculation' phase about the fallout from Kodansha's announcement. I don't know if DH ever made a formal announcement about it or not, but I saw plenty of online discussion about them prepping a re-release of Akira to tie into the film. Then that talk died down and it got out that DH no longer had the license. Unless Kodansha bought out the contract, I can only think they refused DH's renewal option.

Tofurkey
07-06-2008, 03:36 PM
I'm sticking with the movie tie-in argument for now, since DH has plenty to gain from cross-promoting the manga. They've waited fairly long on re-releasing Appleseed partly for that reason, so there's no reason the same can't apply to Akira.

Hell, I'm half-way tempted to buy another set of them if it would help get the series out of hiatus. Now, if only there was hope for Seraphic Feather, Narutaru and Cannon God Exaxxion.

Don't forget Satsuma Gishiden. Or 3x3 Eyes for that matter. I've said it before and I'll say it again: unfinished series on my shelf prevent me from trying out new manga I might be interested in until they've been completed.

Anyways, good news for Reiko.

Hm, I wish Clover wasn't released as an omnibus. If CLAMP is really planning on finishing the series, it'd look odd on a shelf with a giant 4-volume omnibus followed by a couple smaller single volumes.

Manga.About.com (http://manga.about.com/b/2008/07/05/anime-expo-08-dark-horse-to-release-new-evangelion-manga-in-09.htm) has some more info: I only just saw that specific information page today, while Googling for something else entirely. The art looks good enough that I'll be looking forward to the release. :)

I was wondering why I hadn't heard about the license earlier, then realized that I didn't frequent this section of the forums... Hm, I wish Clover wasn't released as an omnibus. I'm happy to getting something related to it at all, seeing as I completely missed the first release somehow. :sd:
