I wonder if the recent announcement of them splitting two will affect any announcements at AX.

I'd just be happy if we can get a definitive list of what titles are ongoing, what are cancelled, and what are just "on hiatus." That is if TP even knows themselves.

If anything, TP really needs to give us an answer on what's going on with BECK...

In addition to Beck, could someone please do me a favor and ask them about the last volume of Dragon Voice? We're all very sad in my DV-reading corner of the world.

And since Kindaichi 18 (http://www.amazon.com/Kindaichi-Case-Files-Burial-Francs/dp/1595327029/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1215259520&sr=8-3) is solicited on Amazon does that mean the last two volumes they've licensed aren't canceled? That would be great. Kodansha could just pick up right after (in my perfect world).

And of course, and news about the status of the light novels unaccounted for would be great. I'm counting on you guys since I can't be there myself!

Amazon hasn't removed any solicits yet, as far as I know. It still has things like Sorceror Hunters 11 on the page for example, when Diamond has already canceled it. So it's not a good barometer of what's been cut and what hasn't.

Sounds like Beck and Twelve Kingdoms are safe, which is good news.

A Battlestar Galactica manga, which sounds iffy to me, but who knows, maybe BSG fans will like it.

And I like how some guy asked TP to stop releasing yaoi in the US. It's called, "Don't buy it then." What a moron.

Kare Kano creator Masami Tsuda’s Castle of Dreams, which is actually two of Tsuda’s anthologies combined into one book.
Woo hoo!

Demon Sacred, from Jyu-oh-Sei creator Natsumi Itsuki
Yay!

Kaichou wa Maid-sama! by Hiro Fujiwara ..... Now that's interesting. I had heard it was licensed but also that TP was not the licensee.

Nice to hear that about Togainu no Chi! NG Life was pretty meh for me, but I think it'll have decently widespread appeal with its empahsis on humorous gender-roles and reincarnation.

Cool, it looks like they've got Togainu no Chi by Sugaro Chayamachi and Nitro+ CHIRAL. I was looking at the Japanese volumes just yesterday and I was thinking about buying them later this week. It's cool that I can hold off now.

Words cannot describe the idiocy. bayoab's liveblog (http://bayoab.info/live/live2.php?panel=1) indicates that there was a resounding "NO!" from the panel. :)

I'm interested in reading Togainu no Chi, I liked the character designs and bought the first two figures.

But on the topic of yaoi.. I sort of can understand where that guy is coming from. Not that I have anything against yaoi, but it seems like that's where a lot of companies main focus is these days. Sure there's other stuff, but damn I see a hell of a lot of yaoi titles on the shelves and announced for released. Mostly I have no interest in it, but that's more because the story synopsis and reviews haven't drawn me in for most of it. I did buy Only the Ring Finger Knows and really liked that, but I didn't buy the novel from that series. I also bought the yuri Blue and loved that too. As much as I'd like to read more titles like these I feel a lot of yaoi and yuri are like bad romance novels. If that's your thing awesome, but I think a lot of other manga fans are feeling burned by companies that seem to be more focused on getting the easy money from yaoi fan girls.
I guess the best I can equate it to is when shonen titles were the majority of release and very little shoujo came out. Of course we should all realize companies are going to release what sells.
I'm not trying to say that yaoi actually is more licensed and release over other genres but it feels that way sometimes...

Of course I get the feeling this guy may just be against two guys loving each other.

It's funny now I want to go out and buy some yaoi.

Tokyopop didn't mention anything about the titles that were removed from diamond or get any questions about them?

Awesome! Togainu no Chi is something I've been mildly interested in for a while, and some of the other new announcements look neat. Of course, my TP confidence is pretty low, but I'll probably still be a sucker and preorder them as they're released.

My guess is that he bought some by accident because he's a stupid fanboy and got the shock of his life and severe mocking by his friends. Not our fault he can't tell one spine from another. ;)

I've never played the game, but from what I've read of the manga, it's quite good and unlike 99.9% of BL currently on the market in tone.

Even better! I'd love to see the game over here as well - that and Lamento. Or at least an English patch.

Well, going by the Giapet report, it sounds like BECK might be safe, but I'll believe it when I see it in my hands...

Of the new licenses, the only one that sticks out to me as interesting, just based on its premise, is Maid-sama. Of course, new books by the creators of Kare Kano and Fruba will get a solid look-see from me as well. Same with the Ugly Yet Beautiful World manga, even though I'm not a huge fan of the anime....

Moving forward with other titles that have been announced, they say? Tsubasa: Those With Wings (aka Tsubasa wo Matsu Mono) by Fruits Basket creator Natsuki Takaya.

I remember that TOKYOPOP had announced Genei Musou, another of Takaya's series, but I don't recall hearing anything about this one. Woot!

I really hope beck is just delayed. Wish they would be a bit more clear. Almost makes me think they are doing something sneaky...

Well, it wasn't explicitly stated (I don't think) but it was implied that the Twelve Kingdom's novels are safe. Still, would it have killed them to just come out and say which titles are continuing and which ones are on "indefinite hiatus"?

I'm not familiar with any of the newly announced titles other than knowing that two of them are by the author of Fruits Basket.

I suspected that Tokyopop would announce Demon Sacred, since they hinted about another Natsumi Itsuki title before, and Demon Sacred showed up on that list of titles that was discussed in the forum before (that "stop distributing"-list). I'm not sure I'm interested in the rest of the stuff. Might check it out in the bookstore though.

I got the impression that they're not entirely sure of what is staying and what isn't yet. They probably set a sale (or profit) point, reviewed which books were meeting that standard, and then cancelled all the rest of the upcoming solicitations so they can review those titles and see if they're worth continuing. It could be weeks before we get a definitive list (if we ever get one...)

Haha, I just bought them. But that's life, I guess. Regardless, it'll be great to have an English copy, since the dialogue can get a little dense at times.

It will probably be totally bad and yet I think I'm gonna buy it. :) I wonder what Fat Lee will look like in manga form...

From Sakura's report:

Tsubasa: Those with Wings by Natsuki Takaya, creator of Fruits Basket. With an April release, this is the second series she created (with Phantom Dream being #1). Three volume series, and planned to release every 4 months.

Tsubasa was originally a 6 volume series, so this makes me think they're going to publish in 3 chunky volumes, like they're doing with Jyu-Oh-Sei. Works for me!

I'm not sure what your point is. Are you expecting it to be a huge marquee title for them? I don't see it being one. More likely, it will be something that will appeal to fans of the anime, like myself and you. It made the cut in TOKYOPOP's most recent solicitations (the one where they cancelled dozens of other books) so we have no reason to think it won't get published as scheduled at this point...

According to ICv2 (http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/12883.html), the anthology will be called Battlestar Galactica: Echoes of New Caprica.

There was a panel "TOKOPOP Online Entertainment Review" was I went to. I wasn't sure if it was something totally different from the TOKOPOP panel, but I recorded that on my blogs. It had some strange short animation video clips and putting their mangas on digital media and mobile devices.

The online review was on 7/3/08l, and then on 7/5/08 they had the TOKYOPOP Industry panel with Marco, Lillian, and Kasia.
