Call them green onions, spring onions, leeks, or negi, these are one of the most common vegetables in anime/otaku culture.
So when you consider the leek, which is the first character to come to mind?
If you choose "Other", please specify who.

Hatsune Miku.
The only other candidate that would come EVEN CLOSE is the loituma girl, aka what's her name from Bleach.
But hands down now, in Japan at least, Negi = Miku

Same here.
Hatsune Miku and then Orihime (Loituma Girl)

Honestly before I read this, I wasn't sure what you meant by Leek. Hmm okay some type of vegetable. So I can't really say anyone comes to mind because I haven't reached the point of associating it with anyone yet.

Hatsune Miku. And I've never even played the Vocaloid game or whatever the hell it is she comes from again, and I don't think I've ever heard "her" sing :sd:

Also note that it contains no Hatsune Miku's, either (aside from the voice itself). That picture is NOT of Miku, it's an original character illustration called "Black Rock Shooter". (Yes i know the hair is similar :) )

I like to think that Black Rock Shooter is a role played by Hatsune Miku.

Miku came to mind before I even opened the thread. I know she didn't start it, but she OWNS (http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm1359820) it now. Sorry, Orihime.
Miku Mikku ni shiteageru~~
Edit: though I have a definite soft spot for Me-tan and her leeks, of course. And she was probably one of the first, there's a me+leek image on danbooru from almost exactly 3 years ago, right after the site started.

It's a voice synthesizer/"digital idol", not a game. There's also Kaito and Meiko and Kagamine Rin and Kagamine Len and various fan created versions.

I knew it was software of some sort, so I thought "game" in my head.
Regardless, it was funny that I vaguely knew who she was, and knew abot the leek connection, and yet before I bothered clicking on the link Fencedude provided, I don't think I had actually ever heard her, even though I had seen her (in fan art and in officially licensed figures) before.

Original artist, should anyone care, is huke (http://huke.blog.shinobi.jp/). I believe the earliest entry with the BRS is this one (http://huke.blog.shinobi.jp/Entry/63/). [Edit: Ok, I see that someone already explained this in the YouTube comments, but bah, too late. Reading YouTube comments gives you cancer and diarrhea anyway, so I recommend against it in most cases.]
As noted, the character design predates the "Black Rock Shooter" Vocaloid song by Ryo/Supercell by approximately 5-6 months, though it's pretty much morphed into being Miku by this point regardless of original intentions (and was probably heavily influenced by her in the first place).
Supercell also did the fantastic Koi wa Sensou (http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm2397344) video [LQ YT link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlPrnIgvmAo)]. Artist for that one is Miwa Shirow (http://mmmworks.exblog.jp/). Ok, but no leeks there though, so to stay on topic, how about http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm982882 [LQ YT link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG_kz6Sp500)]?
Some say (and I agreed at first) that Miku's voice is too synthesized sounding, but god, now I never want it to change. I'm completely in love with Miku (Besides Haruhi, I have more solo images saved of Miku than anyone else, and Miku is really close, having just overcome Fate in the past week) and if her voice were more "natural" it'd actually lose emotional impact for me, at this point. She's one of my all time favorite "characters" despite never having a show or anything of the sort (officially). I guess I just feel like she's more real as she is now than if she sounded completely human... I guess that says more about me than about anything else, though. :sd:
...Anyway, ranting, I know, but I was almost going to make a Hatsune Miku Appreciation Thread soon, though I had decided against it. When I saw this thread though, it all came out >_>

Yeah, both the Nendroid (http://www.hlj.com/product/GSC96337) and the Full-sized figure (http://www.goodsmile.info/products/gsc/2008/gsc0809-02.html) are pretty good looking, but I don't think I'm going to bite.

Probably won't want to click this link (http://www.amiami.com/shop?vgForm=ProductInfo&sku=HOB-FIG-9002&template=review.html) then. I just became a hardcore Miku fan this past weekend. I've been aware of her for a long time now, but just really noticed her a few days ago (if that makes sense). Now I have my iPod, cellphone, and desktop, laced with images of her. Got the Nendoroid Miku on order, and waiting for HLJ to open the ordering on the one posted above (which is sex...) Would be nice to have a nicovideo account (can't register since I can't read it).

Yeah, I've seen that one before, and even if I could get my hands on it the cost would be way too much when you add in whatever crazy shipping is used (to me, anyway. I'm sure hardcore figure fans spend that much hourly).

Not to steer this thread off course anymore, but I get figures from HLJ (http://www.hlj.com/index.html), and with SAL, which is there cheapest shipping option it's only about $8-9 for shipping on an average 1 Fig order for me.

I had a big long post written up, but it'd be more suited to retail... so all I'll say is, what a shame TRSI doesn't list these.

Well, sometimes, but Toyslogic (http://www.toyslogic.com/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=Vocaloid) does if you prefer dealing with a domestic store. As far as true domestic figure releases go, Robert's Anime Corner has pretty good deals (especially during a 20% figure sale + coupon). RightStuf kind of sucks for figures. Anyway, most of the main Japanese companies, including Good Smile Company, have a North American release a few months after the Japanese one. In this case, here is the North American wholesale pre-order for the 1/8 scale Hatsune Miku PVC (http://www.aaaanime.com/item/Figures/4582191965062.html) and the Nendoroid Hatsune Miku (http://www.aaaanime.com/item/Figures/GSC080304.html).
I may or may not be a hardcore figure buyer. >_>
As for the topic at hand, throw me into the Hatsune Miku crowd. ^^

They can get Miku. She's up for US release. You should send them a message asking if they can pick her up.
As for the topic at hand, I went with Negi, because Negi was the first thing that popped into my head. Miku was third. The second thing was actually the Negi Seijin from Gantz.

Kyo - we just started Fruits Basket again for some friends, so that's fresh in my mind.
And watching it, it's hit me just how long it's been. Damn, that's enjoyable.
