For those importing Macross Frontier, which will ship starting this month of July, which media-version are you purchasing for your collection?

No point in getting the DVD if the Blu-ray is out there anyway and I'm also not going to pin any hopes on a R1 release (in either format) any time soon either. As nice as it would be, with the mess the rights for Macross shows are in stateside I'll just take my chances here.

I'm still not sure yet. I'd only be buying it for the extras (so I'd buy the DVD release because it's cheaper) but there's still no information on the whole 50th Anniversary thing, so I'm still waiting to see pictures.

Start with Blu Ray. If I like it enough, I'll stick with BR only. Otherwise move to DVD.

Bandai has reportedly shipped 45,000 Blu-ray copies of vol. 1 to retailers, in comparison with 55,000 DVD copies. This is nearly a 50:50 ratio and presumably based upon the number of pre-orders received, so it's quite impressive IMO.
Can't say I helped though, I decided to wait until a Blu-ray rental version or box set comes out because I want to use more of my paycheck to pay off my student loan while the yen is strong.

I'm still clueless as to what the first pressing includes... I'm still holding off buying unless it turns out to be something worthwhile, which I'm guessing it won't for the price.
Surely someone here has received their copy now O_O

Since it may be the only way to buy Macross Frontier, I am seriously considering buying the series on JP Blu-Ray. I've had the first volume ship with a CDJapan order in the last 24 hours, but Y7000 is pretty steep for three episodes... Japanese prices I know. Fortunately, I got promoted with a massive pay hike recently, so there's every chance I will indulge this one series.
Dang legal BS.

Well, Amazon Japan has Vol. 2 for ¥5600, so that's at least a bit better.
I'm probably going to break down and order at least the first volume, though I'll be having it shipped to a friend in Japan and won't get it for a little while. Amazon.jp dropping their economy international shipping rather blows... paying $20 for shipping on a $35 disc is just annoying.

YesAsia has it for US $53.99 with free international shipping.

Ooooohhhh. I always forget about them, despite having gotten a bunch of stuff from them back when I was working on a vid that required a lot of R2 source. An equivalent price to Amazon and I'll get it sooner? Works for me!

my copies are scheduled for delivery on monday since fedex don't do saturdays, but here's a tv-vs-dvd scene-comparo from a MacrossWorld-member:
TV vs BD scene-comparo (http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?s=&showtopic=26545&view=findpost&p=631647)
a few posts down and we see another MW-member posting package-pics of the BD (http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=26545&st=660&p=631673&#entry631673)
that's it for now.

Also keep in mind that despite what you may assume due to resolution of fansubs, this show aired as an upscale from an SD source, so the difference in quality from the TV broadcast will be even more striking than if it aired in full 1080i HD (like, for example, true tears or kurenai).

Thanks for the links. Wow, huge difference between the broadcast and BD images. I like those Nyan-Nyan stickers too. I've been on the fence on importing the BD. But with little hope for a US release, I'll probably end up buying them.

No English subtitles for either media release, correct?

I'm thinking of doing the same, just to save money. Is that why you switched to DVD? Be interested to know the difference in picture quality, if noticable.
