I was just wondering, does anyone know of any anime films (or even TV series, on the extremely outside chance) that were filmed in a ratio of 2.35:1 (or approximately)? If not, does anyone know of any plans to start filming some anime in that ratio in the future?

Disney had a few "scope" format films in the 50s and 60s, and then stopped for a while. But some recent animated films have started to use "wider" than the 1.66:1 or some such aspect ratio that had dominated theatrical animation for the past 20 years.

Tekkon Kinkreet was filmed and released in 2.35:1.

The Animatrix, if you count it.

Also, while they're only shorts and a bit obscure, the works of independent animator Shishido Kojiro (http://www.iwanihana.info/2008/06/introducing-ind.html).

R2 Little Norse Prince also is around that AR, and I think Taro the Dragon Boy as well.

And another "not exactly anime in the Western sense of the word", the animated portion of Kill Bill done by Production IG.

That's unusual for an older anime; I didn't know that Taro was filmed that wide.

Also thanks for the Tekkon Kinkreet mention Halo. I might check it out soon.

I wonder why Ghibli doesn't try doing a film in this aspect ratio? They certainly have the resources to.
