View Full Version : Zeta Gundam Question

I'm sure there are some Gundam experts here, so perhaps someone can answer a quick question for me with minimal spoilers.
I just started watching Zeta Gundam (about 15 eps in, next episode is New Hong Kong or something like that) and I was wondering about something...
Why does it seem like the mobile suits being used by the two sides have switched? The Titans/Earth Fed are using Zaku like suits with the classic single camera/eye and the AEUG forces are using suits similar to GMs with a more humanoid face.
Did I miss something early on or does that get explained later? Or did the creators always want one type of suit on the "good guys" side and the other on the "bad guys" side?
Thanks!

The AEUG were never part of Zeon, they split off from the Earth Federation so of course they used Federation suits. The suits the Titans are using are Hizacks. I'm guessing they captured some Zaku's and made their own improvements on them, but its been a long time since I saw Zeta so I don't really remember and I don't have easy access to my set (and thus, the booklets which probably explained it) right now.

After Zeon was defeated in the One Year War, a corporation named Anaheim Electronics hired ex-Zeon engineers to design mobile suits. Anaheim Electronics supplied mobile suits to the Titans, Axis, and AEUG during the Gripps Conflict (Zeta Gundam). That's why you see all sides using Zaku, Dom, or other Zeon inspired mobile suits. Notice that the AEUG uses the Rick Dias - a mobile suit obviously inspired by the Dom.
Ofcourse they likely also had on staff Federation engineers as Anaheim also created the Nemo.

Also remember that the Titans are the ones who funded the Gundam MK-II and the Psyco Gundam.
I also always think it's funny that Amuro's Dijeh looks very Zeon, almost Gelgoogish.

Thanks for the info all, along with wiki it cleared some things up. Part of it was that I was originally seeing the AEUG as more of a separate Zeon-type faction rather than a splinter of Fed forces.
