If you were given a mountainside to turn into an anime "Mount Rushmore", what heads from what shows would you carve out?
Hmm...The four hokage's of Naruto because I would love to see a real life incarnation of what you see from the leaf village.

Lum, Rei (giant Rei head for the win!), Lupin, and.... Doraemon?
[edit: Awww, I'm in charge, nix Doraemon. Madoka should be up there instead. :P ]
[edit edit: Crap! Harlock! Can I have a fifth head?]

A whole mountain side? How many faces would be able to fit on it? First, I'd probably add Usagi Tsukino from "Sailor Moon." I'd follow that up with Atom from "Astro Boy." After that it would be hard to choose other 2 or so characters. Candidates for having a spot in the limelight would probably be Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist, Pikachu from Pokemon, Cutey Honey from Cutey Honey, Lina Inverse from Slayers, Sapphire from Princess Knight, and probably some kind of mecha from Evangelion or Gundam.

Definitely Lum. She has to be there.

There are so many characters to choose from, but the first thing that comes to mind is not who the faces should be. Rather for some reason I'm imagining the mountain splitting into four giant robots ready to fight some monster of epic evilness.

Well, lesse:
Washington<->Astro Boy (started it all)
Jefferson<->Nausicaa (laid down lasting traditions)
Teddy Rosevelt<->Amuro Rei (carries a big stick/robot)
Lincoln<->Rei (the strong silent type)

See, I'm thinking along similar lines, and with 'faces', Gurren Lagann's gotta be involved.

Hmm! A good question. Here's my choices:
Astro Boy (as previously stated, he started it all)
Sailor Moon (she kick-started the anime craze back in the '90's)
Spike Speigel (the popularity of Cowboy Bebop is universal)
Pikachu (for the enormous commercial success of Pokemon)

Should I be the history-geek party-pooper who points out that Mount Rushmore was supposed to symbolize "Western expansion" (Jefferson w/Lewis & Clark, Teddy Roosevelt with the National Parks), and was largely a kissup to TR?
Or would that just throw the character selection into "Who expanded anime in the West"? :catgirl:

Rei (giant Rei head for the win!)
I second this!
I say: Giant Rei head, Matoko (GitS), Amuro (Gundam), and Belldandy (A/OMG, because Belldandy is :beatingheart:).

Interesting topic. I always thought that the "Azumanga Daioh" characters would make for interesting mountain carvings.
Now if I were to actually carve something that had the same facial expressions of the real Mt. Rushmore and replace them with AzuDaioh characters, it might look something like this:
-Chiyo-chan (in place of George Washington)
-Sakaki (Thomas Jefferson)
-Mr. Tadakichi (Theodore Roosevelt)
-Osaka (Abraham Lincoln)
I would love for Chiyo-chan to look the most dignified. :sdsmiley:

Kaneda(Akira), Motoko(GitS), Goku(DB), and Usagi(Sailor Moon)?

I will answer this question how I wish to answer this question not how it has been answered so far. Mostly because anime and manga creators never get enough love:
Osamu Tezuka - duh
Hayao Miyazaki – double duh
Moto Hagio – she is like the mother of shojo
Go Nagai – he is like the father of mecha
I struggled with the last one. I thought of throwing on Yoshiyuki Tomino, Satoshi Kon, Hideaki Anno, Rumiko Takahashi, Ai Yazawa, or Akira Toriyama. I'm sure someone might be able to top this list but I think it's a good start for the founders of anime and manga list.
And I guess to make my post flow with the rest:
Black Jack (Mostly because everyone else will pick Astro Boy)
Oscar Francois de Jarjayes (Because no one is manlier even if is she is a woman)
Lupin III (He stole his way on this list)
Char Aznable – (Umm … because Gundam fan boys will assassinate you if you pick anyone else)

Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Getter Robo and Grendizer, of course. :)
I'd thought of including Gigantor and the RX-78 in lieu of Great and Grendizer, but I hear he's getting a statue in Kobe anyway, and there must be a life-sized Gundam monument knockin' about somewhere in Tokyo as it is.
Come to think of it, isn't there a Mazinger statue in spain?
And if I had another mountainside to deface, I'd go for Ruri Hoshino, Guu, Yuki Nagato and Ai Enma. Cute and deadpan monument for the win!
Nah, scratch that - Ruri deserves a statue of her own. :)

The problem with a mt. rushmore of giant robots is that mt. rushmore is supposed to be LARGER than life, not SMALLER.
You'd need like, an entire mountain for each one :)

Rei Ayanami (Neon Genesis Evangelion), Conan Edogawa (Case Closed/Detective Conan), Lupin III (Lupin III), Mamimi Samejima (FLCL) .
Not necessarily my top four favorite characters, but famouse/fitting characters who I like and everyone knows. Plus I'd like the way the four of em' would look up there. I tried to get both sexes a place on the mountain. Conan and Lupin for the guys, split up Rei and Mamimi for the girls. The runner up is Yuki Nagato, only because I find she's too "new" for the mountain. Maybe next time Yuki...

Shonen Jump style:
Goku.
Luffy.
Naruto.
Ichigo.
(I'd throw in Light if a 5th head is allowed.)
As for my personal favourite female characters:
- Mizuho Kazami (Please Teacher!)
- Esther Blanchett (Trinity Blood)
- Kallen Stadtfeld/Kozuki (Code Geass)
- Aya Tojo (Strawberry 100%)

I would make a Negima version of the mountain with my top four Negima characters.
-Setsuna (she's just awesome)
-Ayaka (she's hot, rich, and is a wonderful person)
-Chisame (she's a very amusing character)
-Nodoka (she's so moe)

Hmm... If I was limited to four like the real Mount Rushmore, I'd have to go with Astroboy, Doraemon, Rei Ayanami and Ruri Hoshino. Those are the four characters that in my opinion define anime worldwide, even to people know don't know anime.
