All right since the previous thread for the series is several months old and the code in the posts is screwed up due to the move to VB, I'm starting a fresh thread for the second season. Hopefully this is okay. If not then the thread title for the previous thread would need to be altered and I'd need to update the root post. A reply for episode 1 of Sunshine Sketch x 365 will come in the next post. In any case time once more to rip-off something.

Note
As usual, please try to follow these three easy forum courtesy habits when replying:
1) If you're the first person to post about an episode in any given week, please respond to the root post (this post) and indicate in the subject line which episode you're posting about.
2) If someone has already posted about an episode before you, please respond to that post (or a relevant reply to that post). Keep in the right subthread.
3) Don't use the blue "Post Reply" button because if you do your reply will not correctly inherit the subject line of the post you're replying to. It'll ignore it and pick up the root post title. Just click "Quote" to the post you want to reply to.

All right the first episode of Hidamari Sketch x 365 aired and let's just say that I watched it as soon as I was able to. I mean that literally. In any case I still need to re-watch later, but based on what I could tell from the visuals and stuff....

This seems to essentially be an introductory episode about how Yuno came to be part of the school and come to live at the Hidamari Aparments. It also involves her meeting the others. We even get to see Yuno's mother. Who by the way teaches us that waving a lot builds muscle. Some of the scenes I recognize from the manga I just read. Also there's random English phrases in the episode.

The opening and ending song haven't sunk in yet. I'll re-watch them a couple of times later maybe. So no real comments yet. However during the ending it seems the characters are symbolized. Yuno=X, Sae= Glasses, Hiro= Hair?, and Miyako= Paw Print! Yeah go figure on that one.

So far the second season of this series is off to a decent start. It does seem like they're easing people into the second season though. Regardless the real fun should happen in the second episode. I wonder if like the first season this will be in none chronological order. I guess we'll find out sooner or later.

HI DA MA RI!! YES!!!

Episode 1:

- They're pulling the 4:3 initial broadcast crap again? That's really getting old, Japan.
- But no matter, the animation on the opening scene is AWESOME! Yuno! Yuno! Yuno! I love you Yuno! I love you SHAFT! Run Yuno, Run! I am completely in love with this show already.
- Also, February 9th.
- HOLY SHIT. OP. HOLY SHIT. I just about twitched myself right out of my skin that was so incredibly catchy and fun and lively and cute and oh god they know how to play to the Hiro x Saw fans too. I'm about to declare this OP of the Season and it's only the second I've seen =P ::watches again:: Oh god, Yuno, you are fatally cute. WASSHOI! WASSHOI!
- "The die is cast." And so begins Yuno's life at school, or at least her entrance exam. And I just have to emphasize again how awesome the art is. SHAFT is definitely pulling out all the stops. I do very much hope we don't get any episodes like one or two from season one, where they pulled a Tsukuyomi ep 12 on us and essentially didn't animate anything... Keep that budget freed up, guys. Maintain this quality!
- Yoshinoya-sensei, I looooove you~
- Fu-ar-gah-wha-how-WHY ARE YOU SO CUTE, YUNO??
- Landlady-san! It's so funny hearing Sawashiro Miyuki as her now, because I start thinking of Shinkurou of Kurenai :sd: And Yuno's mom is still waving...
- Heh I even love the poor girl who has to sit next to Yuno in all these exams.
- Hiro! Sae! Hiro! Sae! Sex! February 14th.
- Hehehe, Yuno's mom makes me laugh. "You're an idiot, aren't you?"
- "Atsu~" Yuno with her tongue out. MORE CUTE.
- February 15th! Yuno comes for her test results... and she passed! (well, duh). Hiro and Sae see Miyako and think she failed and is crying. She just has a runny nose =P
- And Yuno moves in. April 5th. GOD SHE'S SO CUTE.
- <insert>

And Yuno makes her first friend. And the scene is beautiful. I'm so happy I actually started crying. Holy shit.

...The episode is only half over. I thought that was the end O_O

- Off to meet Hiro now! What a nice, pretty, kind upperclassmen. How about her neighbo---A DEAD BODY! ...Well not quite.
- Aww, bath house scene denied due to excess cake intake.
- Yuno's outfit is giving me spasms of joy. It's unbearably adorable. The white long sleeved shirt, the cute red skirt, and the stockings. I'm in love <3
- "Love is blind." Before this, Miyako jumping in Yuno's tub. After it, Hiro bringing Sae dinner. God I ship these two pairs harder than titanium. Oh god blush harder Sae, it is my sustenance, my nourishment, my life force.
- Room 101, Hiro. Room 102, Sae. Room 202, Miyako. Room 201, Yuno. Hidamari-sou, never change. I also really, really like the ED. It's not quite Maebae Drive, but it's not far behind. And the OP... "Sketch Switch" is one of my favorite OPs, but I think "Hatena de Wasshoi" may be its equal, at the least.

Just... fuck yes wow oh god, I don't know if another summer show can top this. What an incredibly stellar way to get started. The amount of tender loving detail that went into every single movement Yuno made from star to finish almost has me weeping in pure joy.

I didn't just "enjoy" this - this was among the best first episodes I have seen. In all of anime. EVER. And even saying that doesn't begin to do it justice.

I am utterly, shamelessly, hopelessly in love with the Hidamari girls all over again. I knew I would really like it, but damn. I don't even know how else to describe it.

...っち!

something hit pretty much everything I would have. :) I was wondering if they were doing the 4:3 initial/widescreen later thing with this, since the ending really looks like the edges were cut off. Bah. I managed to wait and watch through Clannad in widescreen... but this will be a bit more difficult to hold off on when a new ep. comes out.

I think this worked quite well as a first episode for the 2nd season of a show, providing both very good background and introductions for all the major characters while not really re-treading anything that those of us who followed (and adored) the first season have already seen. I think it was an excellent balance- and a completely adorable episode that reminded me all over again why I loved the first season so much.

Now, bring on the high-quality widescreen version!

I don't even know how else to describe it.

How about try describing it as Sunshine brightening our world and casting away the gloomy darkness? Sorry it was the quickest thing that came to mind. In any case now that I've re-watched the episode it definitely re-confirms why this is one of my favorite series. Such an awesome episode that I'm already watching again because I can! Seriously my only complaint would be having to wait until the 24th for the 16:9 version plus whatever time it takes for uh thing to happen. Assuming I read things correctly of course at the evil forum.

An excuse to watch each ep twice! Though I had trouble finding the time for that even for Clannad, so I don't know if I'll do it here either. But it'll make for a really nice rewatch when it's all done.

Some of the scenes I recognize from the manga I just read.

The first episode is very much a close-adaption of the manga. It misses out on Miya's entrance woes, but other than that it's mostly the same.

As for the episode, I loved it!

I don't know why, but Yuno seems much warmer in x365. It suits her and makes her even cuter :)

I'm waiting, impatiently I might add, for the widescreen broadcast. Considering how empty my plate is for the season we'll see if my willpower holds out.

Considering how empty my plate is for the season we'll see if my willpower holds out.

I'm still in the middle of establishing my plate for this season while still working on past seasons. Although I've already dropped quite a few of the Spring series because they're not worthy of me. Still from the start I've figured it this way. It's Sunshine Sketch. I can always save my willpower for other things.

I suppose I could just watch all of the x365 episodes twice. That's be a fine use of time. I have maybe 3 other shows this season to follow, a personal low for my since the year I began watching digisubs. Hidamari is a much needed bright spot this summer.

This will be my second watch after Someday's Dreamers ~ Natsu no Sora for this season (or just possibly third because there's Birdy the Mighty Decode!) I am really looking forward to watching this... *realises zie only saw one episode of the first season...* I'll watch the rest of the first season first and maybe Telepathy Shojo Ran as well... I also might try Zero no Tsukaima 3...

I'm looking at doing much the same thing (watching each episode twice, once for each version). Hidamari is just far and away good enough that I'd probably be willing to drop another series to have enough time to watch it twice (and it's actually not outwardly fanservicy such that if I were to return to watching things over lunch at work I could do so with it... unlike, say, Strike Witches).

I watched this today (early morning) and it was pretty awesome. I pretty much agree with something's review, hyperbole notwithstanding.

I could watch Yuno do cute things for the rest of my life and be happy.:beatingheart:

If Sazae-san can run for over 1800 episode, why can't this run 365 at least?;)

After comparing the first episode of this season to the last, it seems to me that 365 title means "365 times the animation budget" :)

Seriously... they actually did draw Mt. Fuji in the bathhouse this time, instead of a sign that just reads "Fuji-san" like last time...

That made me laugh. I guess now that they know there is an audience for the show they can take the risk of providing more budget. Really, though, it didn't need it that much. The style is such that they can get away with a pretty low budget, so long as the characters remain on-model when they're not doing those SD faces. I thought the animation from season 1 was part of it's charm. Simple and homey feeling.

While the animation in x365 ep 1 was so, so much better, I agree that the animation in season one did the job perfectly well.

Er, at least in the episodes that were animated... at least one ep was SHAFT pulling a Tsukuyomi 12 ;_; Wonder if they redid that for DVD?

Ah now that's quite the difference. The top one looks like it was done by some person grabbed off the street. The bottom one is not only better artwork wise, but has the added benefit of a better view of her chest. Yeah these things are important.

Woah. That reminded me of Animation Runner Kuromi ("No Direction!"). Unfortunately/fortunately (depending on whether you watch fansubs or also buy DVDs) these things are common. There were similar pictures posted in the Rocket Girls thread (in R1 forum).

But anyway, I didn't meant to imply the animation of season 1 was inadequate. The style of Hidamari Sketch does not rely heavily on good quality animation. However I was merely pointing out that there were some episodes where animation quality was notably down compared to earlier episodes.

It isn't. Hidamari season one's animation is perfectly find most of the time, even really good sometimes. There were just some things that, well, weren't, and one episode in particular was very clearly behind schedule and released with the animation 70% incomplete. Most scenes in that episode were simply sound effects and a view of a wall, pretty much.

But it wasn't a poorly animated show on the whole, at all. It's just that x365 ep 1 completely blew away anything season one ever did.

The first 25 seconds of x365 1 contains more frames than an entire episode of the first season.

(which I'm finally done with, and the specials as well. Second special was epic, poor Sae, she's just so desperately in love...)

Granted the chances of it actually happening are kind of low, but a wedding episode would be nice. Only one person is worthy of being Sae's wife. Still regardless the second special was well very special. Maybe if we're luck X365 will also get specials in addition to however many episodes it gets. I suspect 12 to be on the safe side.

February 6th!

Episode 2:

- Valentine's day approaches, Sae gets stressed... It's one year after Yuno moved in.
- LOVE. THE. OP! The bit at the end when they all raise their hands and grab each other's is just EPIC HAPPY PLACE.
- Chika! Only via text message sadly. It's time for her exam results.
- Yuno has difficult math classes >_> She's also super worried about Chika and is anxious to hear if she passed her tests.
- And she passed! yay!
- Sae is on the phone with her now, and we get to see and hear her. Kugimiya Rie <3
- An embarrassed Sae is an epic Sae.
- "Ooooh, double peace!" XD Everything Miyako says cracks me up absurdly.
- Everyone is sending Chika text messages congratualting he and telling her to come visit. Do it Chika, do it! Miyako doesn't know how to text message. She does it about as fast as I would.
- Natsume! Oh I hope we get more of her =D
- Sailor fuku Miyako! YES!!
- Hiro is defeated by rotten oranges. Eww.
- And more of Chika working on Sae. Chika needs to hurry up and visit nooooooow.
- I like how all the chocolate worries in this episode involve the principal and the teachers.
- Heh, Landlady is doing a part time job handing out flyers for a pizza place. That's why she stuffed three in a mailbox earlier, even for the vacant rooms :sd:
- Also, goddaaaaamn Yuno is so cute in her winter coat and hat.
- I love the deformed Hidamari heads. They're practically yukkuri.
- Negi negi negi negi! "When you use a knife, make yor left hand into a kitty paw." SO FUCKING CUTE. BRAIN CANNOT HANDLE.
- Tofu cutting is very serious business, and thus Yuno feels THE PRESSURE. The 'X' conveys emotion so wonderfully.
- Sumo food. Oh Hiro, you're just deliciously curvy, not fat! You're a healthy girl!
- Aw man, Sae takes off her glasses but we don't get to see.
- And today's bathwater is green. Goodnight, Yuno! <3

I think I need to go watch episode one again. God this show is so fucking good. Already hands down show of the season.

May 27th next time!

Well this episode answers the question of "Is this a prequel series or was the first episode mainly an origin story?" Looks like it's definitely the latter here. Regardless it's nice to spend some quality time with Chika again even if it's in a limited form. Sae has such a cute sister.

In any case there were several fun moments, but I have to wonder. Just exactly what was Natsume expecting Sae to be doing on the roof. I suppose I could speculate, but my imagination would probably end up running wild because it's just that capable. Too bad we couldn't see Sae without her glasses, but then again it seems like Sae probably can't see herself either so everything evens out in the end. Plus we did get to see Miyako in that uniform.

It looks like everything is flowing nicely. With this episode being in February and the next in May (according to the preview anyway) the series definitely remains in none-chronological order. And if this episode is any indication we'll have more fun with the episodes referencing both past events and foreshadowing future events. Which was part of the fun.

I wonder when Yuuno finally met the Landlady, since they missed each other in all of the first season episodes, but here Yuuno's obviously met her.

hmm...the non-linearity of this show is interesting once you think about it a bit...

I'll have to try to go through and order the story eventually. But yeah, the jumping around definitely adds to the slice of life aspect because it's *really* jst a slice here, a slice there, rather than trying to tackle the pie in any set order.

There's just something rather sweet and cutesy about that scene. It has a nice touch it. As a whole the opening is quite well fun for various reasons, but that scene definite sticks out.

I wonder when Yuuno finally met the Landlady, since they missed each other in all of the first season episodes, but here Yuuno's obviously met her.

I'll have to double check later, but I distinctly remember Yuno having met the land lady in the first season. There's a scene where the landlady interacts with the four of them and the conversation leads to Yuno being made to realize that the said person is actually the landlady. If I remember right it's in episode 7 near the end of it. Essentially you have the land lady interested in the chestnuts. She's offered Miyako's fish instead. Miyako gripes about the landlady and Yuno comments in surprise. Your classic "That person was actually....?" scene.

Well the official site (http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/hidamari/1st/index-j.html) for the first season had a basic timeline (http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/hidamari/1st/03story/story.html) that indicated April to March. I don't see any such thing on the X365 Site (http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/hidamari/)

However we can probably assume by default that 2+ will each take place during the same year the episdoes from the first season. Thus for example this episode takes place February 6th meaning it has to take place before episode 5 of the original season which was February 13th. Also at the same time because we know April is the starting month, we can assume by default that the April episode of this season, will have taken place before the February episode of this season.

Thus a timeline can still be formed based on that. This also means that while we got a "It's been a whole year" line, we can assume that in reality episode 1 of this second season takes place about two months before the April episode of the first season. Granted there's also the question of Yuno's birthday. Ie when she goes from being 15 to 16 as it were.

In any case the time line jumping around works in this series because they make a point to have the episodes reference each other. Thus getting a lot of "Oh so that's what they were referring to" and "Ah I remember that" reactions from the fanbase without forcing "flashbacks" and whatever you call the reverse down our throats constantly.

Aha, wow, the same thing happened to me. But while Yuuno is cute and all, Hiro and Miyako are the ones that make the show for me. And while Yuuno is cute and has her moments, I fond the early portion of the episode rather dull. I was surprised the episode wasn't over because it had felt about twice as long as it actually was and not in a good way.

Second half was much better. Hiro's voice played a part in that. I had forgotten that Yuko Goto was the seiyu, but then I face palmed after I checked the ANN entry. I can't believe I forgot that.

Episode 12:

- It's a day off. Happy place! Yuno brushing her teeth. Happy place! Yuno turning off her alarm clock. Happy place! Yuno sweeping in front of her door. Happy place! Miyako with a ponytail. Happy place! Everything every one of these characters ever does. Ever. Happy place!
- OP! INFINITELY HAPPY PLACE! Wasshoi! You are the greatest OP ever.
- Miyako is fantastic in that ponytail. Yuno and Miyako are boarding a train and going somewhere. Where? I don't know, but I imagine my happy place will be there and everywhere in between.
- Every time they do a closeup on Yuno's or Miyako's or the pair's faces, I just twitch in glee over the cuteness. So too at Yuno trying to teach Miyako the best way to stand up in a train without holding onto the supports. :sd:
- Woah, Yoshinoya had a friend back in school that she says was like her twin. They better be totally gay. Yuno tries to comprehend two Yoshinoyas in one class, and fails. Anyway they're off to a shrine in Iwakaba to do some sketching at Yoshinoya's suggestion.
- X vs. 900 steps up to the shrine. Or presumably 900, Miyako makes Yuno lose count halfway. They finally reach the top and meet the shrine priest who is apparently popular with the ladies (and this explains why Yoshinoya liked the shrine).
- Miyako's interpretation of what a shiisa should be is awesome. (Or whatever the standard word for them is, I know shiisa is supposedly Okinawan dialect, but Osaka has corrupted me.)
- They split up to sketch, and Yuno meets a little girl who likes her sketches. Cuuuuuuuute! She likes it so much she asks Yuno if she can keep it. Miyako says she met the same girl, but wasn't asked for the sketch. Yuno is special!
- Miyako sleeping on Yuno's shoulder. <3 Yuno is so happy that the picture made the girl happy. So happy she completely misses her stop and they wind up at the end of the line.
- Yuno apparently uses erasers only kids use. When Miyako assumes she stopped in 4th grade, Yuno looks over it and just goes, "...Ah." I was so expecting an Azumanga-style あ! bubble to pop out.
- Hiro bought too many snacks again. God Gotou Yuuko is amazing as Hiro. They also run into the landlady who has yet another part time job. Hiro mentions that room 203 isn't locked, which bothers her, but the landlady says it's no big deal.
- Ah right, Miya and Yunocchi haven't met the landlady yet in this one. Sae tries to bring up the conversation they had but Hiro changes the subject quickly. The heck is in room 203?
- Yuno trying the natto flavored snack results in the cutest faces EVER.
- Yuno finds the lucky chocolate that makes the person you love love you back! But Hiro bought the chocolate. Who gets the love luck? At any rate, MIYA-CHAN x X NOW.
- Natsume shows up and stares at Sae's mailbox, but Sae sees her. Natsume stammers a bit and then runs off. Oh my god she's totally gay.
- Haha, Miyako gets Bugles (or the Japanese equivalent) fingers and chased Yuno around.
- More talk about diets, then the little girl who wanted the sketch. Yuno nooooooooooose. What is the meaning of that anyway? Everything I got with google just referenced the sexual connotations of tengu noses. :sd: And it's obviously not connected to the western meaning of noses growing when you lie.
- Really light green bath additive today.

I want to become a cute highschool girl and live at the Hidamari-sou forever and ever. ;__; Also, I'll have to check season one for the room 203 bit, since I remember something about a trap in one of the rooms... Or maybe it's something they'll deal with later this season.

Up next, March 16th to 23rd! A multi-day ep. Mild tuna flavor.

P.S. They totally need to introduce standard Unicode characters for the paw, octopus and glasses so I can just refer to all the characters by their symbol.

The traps were in 201- Yuno's room- and were left by the girl who occupied the room before her if my memory serves. I don't remember anything about 103 or 203 being mentioned before other than the fact they're unoccupied (somewhat surprising given Hidamari's proximity to the school and the supposedly reasonable rent for them...).

The next one should be interesting... I don't think they did a true multi-day one last season, did they?

Probably because the water was clearer this time and didn't block the view as much. Plus the angle helped. Hey I wonder if we can use "Yuno takes a bath (almost) every episode" to sell the show.

I noticed it as well, especially after having remarked about the Setsuban picture showing her as being a bit more developed than they usually show. I think they just decided to prove me wrong.

- YES A CAT IS FINE TOO
- I just noticed that the picture sequence at the end of the OP changes.
- Ah yes, a week long episode, this should be interesting.
- Cat + Miyako == AWESOMENESS
- Paw + X
- no pets in Hidamari-sou ;_;
- And no boys either! (and thats good)
- oh god, them faking out Hiro was epic.
- Ok, I don't get the reference about watching his face...
- lol the cat snores and freaks out Hiro.
- Whoo hoo! Chika-chan is coming!
- And its gone ;_; Oh god Yuuno's crying.
- Pink water for Miyako's bath!

*blinks* Well, that week went by fast, and now we are jumping seasons again...

- Still trying to figure out what the colors on the mailboxes mean in any given scene.
- October now.
- Yuuno asleep at the spotlight!
- THIS IS YOUTH! (he's totally not helping Yuuno's angst over this festival project)
- Oh god Yoshinoya in a nurse outfit.
- YES WEAR THE METAL BIKINI THING PLEASE
- OH GOD YES SAEXHIRO IN A VERY COMPROMISING POSITION
- lol "yuri". That can't be a coincidence, can it?
- Oh yeah, Kishi-chan. ANd oh god never change Yoshinoya.
- OOOOHHHHHH. This is the festival she draws that picture of her classmates prepairing for the festival! Of course.
- Dinner with the entire family.
- Orange water to end the day with a bath.
- No wait, still drawing. Though she keeps nodding off...and there she goes.

AND YES WE MAY ACTUALLY GET CHIKA NEXT WEEK SINCE HER NAME IS IN THE TITLE THEY CAN'T JUST TEASE US WITH HER.

Okay so in the first half we have fun with Miyako and a Cat. You've got to love how this makes the "paw print" symbol for Miyako even more appropriate than before. Miyako is a strange. Still wow Yuno's cat has done the Rubics Cube? Okay either she's misunderstanding things or that cat of hers is smart. It's great to know that the Hidamari Apartments don't allow boys. Nothing must get in the way! Still the except for relative things makes me think "If this was another series, you'd get a 'uh we're cousins" line". Kitty going away makes Yuno sad, Miyako should comfort her.

Wow so we're jumping to a different month in the same episode. That settles it, this season isn't going to be as simple as a different day from each month. So no telling what we'll get this season. Which should make things quite interesting.

Interesting so this part mainly deals with how the characters prepared for the festival back in season 1. This becomes more apparent with things like Yuno being the spot lighter for that Cinderella play. So that suggestive scene of Hiro and Sae from the opening gets shown and explained, but uh it still makes me wonder. Also I'm sure drawing Lillies is some form of symbolism. Kind of nice to see how Yuno came to the conclusion to (at least attempt to) to draw what she did.

Episode is awesome as usual. Now all that's left is waiting for episode 5 and hoping the indication of Chika goodness ends up being delivered and isn't a cruel tease. Then again they already pulled the "We're talking about her, but barely showing her" stuff before.

Episode 4:

- OP MAKES ME HAPPY.
- Dowsing with kitties! Hmm, I don't remember a cat in season one, so I guess it doesn't stick around long. Since the ep covers a week, this might be the only appearance.
- No boys {except relatives) "Maybe if I marry him..." XD
- Miyako you bastard. But that was so damn amusing. Hiro is seeing ghost cats! I love how it just cuts away and Miyako has another huge lump on her head.
- Cover cat =(
- Yuno has a cat that can do Rubik's Cubes o_O
- Miyako cracks me up. "Is this sleeping with someone before you're married? Mom, dad, I'm sorry."
- And it leaves. I'm kinda happy actually, because while the ep so far has been, of course, awesome, the focus on the cat is still that little bit much less focus on the girls. But awwwwww Yuno crying ;_; And Miyako's demon snores!

October 31st. Wow, quick week.

- Plop ~ by Miyako.
- Yuno sucks at spotlight.
- Yoshinurseya-sensei! Yuno should know better than to ask her for help. :sd:
- YES! YES YES YES!!! It's that scene from the first season OP! ガガガガガガガガガガ! Fucking YES! Oh god, Shaft, MARRY ME! ::watches 10 times before moving on::
- And what does she draw? YURI! Shaft you brilliant sons of bitches, you know exactly what we want. They are SO COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY AND UNDENIABLY AND UNABASHEDLY GAY. YESSSSSSS!
- Ooh, is that the cute former student who visited Miya and Yuno's class in S1? You know, after which we got the "Gender doesn't matter in love!" line from Miyako? PERFECT.
- "Please don't get too far ahead..." Don't leave your lover behind, Miya-chan!
- Her knees popped. Even her hair blushes.
- I also love how Shaft is giving us these really sweet little Manabi Straight-like moment of brilliance. Yuno realizing what it is she wanted to do and rushing back to the classroom was <3 <3 <3 <3
- And 7 months later, the landlady is trying to quit again.
- On TV we have Sawashiro Miyuki sounding very much like her Sekiutsu Maria Tarou voice.

Damn it's awesome how they show us the day leading up to Yuno's incomplete drawing from season one. The "To be continued..." bit at the end was just brilliant. To be continued indeed. First half of this episode was good. Second half was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.

Also, must have Chika next ep!

Which happens to be March 25th, Congrats Chika! Looks like we're picking up almost directly after the end of the first half of this episode. Oh, and awesome piece of art on the final "brought to you by" screen.

This has seriously shot all the way up to like #3 best currently airing show. In just 4 eps. Hidamaria Sketchbook forever!

Hmmm. Today I discovered that the 4:3 version of the episodes does have a use- it lets me watch Hidamari(a) on the TV at the hotel I'm in for the week without losing any screen real estate to letterbox bars. Still looking forward to getting the show in widescreen though- but that can wait until I'm back home with my widescreen set.

Another excellent episode (as if there could be any other kind from this show....). Miyako and the cat was quite good, but the back-story on the festival from the first season was just terrific. So it looks like they're both going forward (Chika's test results and the first half of this look to be after the New Year's from the first season) as well as dipping back a bit into the timeframe of the first season. Works for me. Hopefully they'll eventually make enough of this show to cover every single day that Yuno spends at Hidamari through her time in school.

From what I can gather both first season and the second season take place during the same year with the starting month being April and the ending month being March. Just that the second season is showing us different moments from that year not shown in the first. The exception is the first episode of S2 which is akin to an origin story.

I like pre-ordering stuff a fair ways out (I pre-ordered Vol. 2 along with 1). I have a tendency to forget about what I've pre-ordered at times so it's a pleasant surprise when something shows up at my doorstep halfway unexpected (though thankfully I've learned to double-check my 'current orders' folder in my email before I buy something to avoid getting two :P).

In any case for the record this episode is filled with plenty of Chika goodness. She's such a lovely and cute girl. Granted I'm not sure what's going on exactly. However it seems that certain events lead to the girls doing karaoke while at a public bath (I think). It's one of those moments that has to be seen to believe and then seen again. Simply because it's such an interesting combination. Now I just need to wait for others to see it, but regardless I felt compelled to comment on it. Maybe I'll have more comments later. Episode 5:

- E-mail. Chika! Now for the OP. Hatena de wasshoi, san roku go! And this time Yuno goes flying into the girls for the picture...
- "I'm being ignored." XD CHIKA!! Kugimiya Rie love <3
- Chika and Yuno holding hands~~~
- Bwhaha. "Lucky to have Hiro as a-" well, she said neighbor apparently but my brain kept screaming WIFE, WIFE, WIFE.
- Hidamari-sou, banzai!
- Chika getting a bit sad when thinking about how Sae left and went on her own way, awww. You totally miss her. They're such wonderful sisters. See, even if Sae is generally the least remarkable of the Hidamari girls (which is to say, still fucking awesome), she more than makes up for it by giving us access to Chika!
- Aww... Chika is super excited about going to karaoke but it's closed for renovations. ;_; Then we run into the landlady. I love you Sawashiro Miyuki landlady! More about room 203...
- Haha, Chika and Yoshinoya. Helping a teacher clean out her junk doesnt sound like how I'd want to spend a day off.
- Chika talking about moving into Hidamari-sou? Oh god I wish. Sae turns her down because she doesn't want to lose any alone time with Hiro. Well, that's what I'm betting the real reason is. It is a damn shame Chika isn't going to Yamabuki High though. We seriously need a third season with Chika joining the crew.
- PUBLIC BATHS! PUBLIC BATHS! And I fucking love Miyako's singing, it's so good but so hilarious at the same time. Especially when she's all chibified while doing it. And baths make for a little bit of service too... (holy shit, Hiro!)
- Yuno singing! It's not quite her skill during the OP, huh? BUT IT'S CUTE!
- And now six cute naked girls singing! Who needs karaoke? <3
- Bath scene isn't over either! And Sae is taken a back by Chika's chest... I bet Chika has more than Sae does. I love how Sae does this cute little double-take at first. And how they all avoid the topic of breasts when confronted with Yoshinoya's 'talents'. And how even a flashback to an event earlier in the day is told out of order too. AND HOW ABSOLUETLY EVERYTHING IS PERFECT AND THIS SHOW WINS THE SEASON.
- More singing! Fuck this is adorable beyond the limits of human comprehension.
- Then the cake, and presents, and Hiro telling Sae not to lecture Chika today and oh godddddd how can this show be so good?
- Heh! Back in junior high, Sae was popular with the girls because she looks sort of like a boy with her height and short hair. She even got chocolate from other girls... That makes so much sense. Hiro x Sae is one of the most perfect yuri couples imaginable.
- I totally teared up at the Chika/Sae scene after everyone split up for the night. Damn that was so, so sweet. <3
- Oh yeah, definitely that subtle little extra bit of Yunoservice in the nightly bath scenes. I approve.

And still the undisputed best show of the season. This show has done absolutely nothing wrong so far and I'm constantly floored by how good it is. Every little conversation and blushing glance and silly laugh is honed to slice of life perfection.

See, even if Sae is generally the least remarkable of the Hidamari girls (which is to say, still fucking awesome), she more than makes up for it by giving us access to Chika!

Sae not only gives us access to Chika, she's also half of the Sae X Hiro formula. Given two reasons to love her. Plus while she may be the weakest of the four leads, she still comes off decently. Granted the way she interacts with the other three helps.

Chika talking about moving into Hidamari-sou? Oh god I wish. Sae turns her down because she doesn't want to lose any alone time with Hiro. Well, that's what I'm betting the real reason is.

It would be so wonderful if Chika lived there as. Darn it, Sae don't turn down such a divine idea. Regardless your theory as to why she does just makes absolute perfect sense in my mind.

It is a damn shame Chika isn't going to Yamabuki High though. We seriously need a third season with Chika joining the crew.

Well even if she doesn't go to the same high school, maybe they can find "excuses" for her to visit a lot. Maybe even have her accidentally walk in a love making section. Come on those have to happen eventually right?

And baths make for a little bit of service too... (holy shit, Hiro!)

Hiro is love! Hmm wait I'm supposed to be commenting on Miyako's rather nice singing and not just commenting about Hiro's lovely chest and in general nice naked body.

Yuno singing! It's not quite her skill during the OP, huh? BUT IT'S CUTE!

Recognize the song? It's the same one she sings off key during episode 4 of Season 1. Apparently even months later, she still sings the song in her own way.

Bath scene isn't over either! And Sae is taken a back by Chika's chest... I bet Chika has more than Sae does. I love how Sae does this cute little double-take at first.

Sae it's time to accept facts. Your sister is not only extremely cute, she's also sexy. Yeah I was paying too much attention to certain things or maybe not enough attention if you ask me.

And how even a flashback to an event earlier in the day is told out of order too.

In some ways that was a rather nice touch they did there. Since it kind of makes sense that people wouldn't always talk about what happened during a day in exact chronological order. Actually to be honest when they did the switch over after the eye catch, I was left wondering what happened to the earlier scene. However thanks to the well played dinner conversation it all made sense.

Hiro x Sae is one of the most perfect yuri couples imaginable.

Exactly and the information in regards to Sae's popularity among girls only makes it even more perfect. Plus it makes even more clear as to why Hiro is the wife. Now we just need the wedding.

I totally teared up at the Chika/Sae scene after everyone split up for the night. Damn that was so, so sweet. <3

Sisterly bonding is always a good thing. In general it was rather nice how the episode gave us a good indication as to how Chika feels about the decisions her sister made and how the two feel about each other.

Oh yeah, definitely that subtle little extra bit of Yunoservice in the nightly bath scenes. I approve.

Yuno's dedication to bathing is an aspect of her that I've come to greatly enjoy. Obviously it's because it shows she understands the importance of keeping clean. Absolutely nothing to do with the fact it provides us fanservice of her. Okay I'm a terrible liar. So yeah the more fanservice of her the better. Thus I will also approve of the extra bit of fanservice.

And still the undisputed best show of the season. This show has done absolutely nothing wrong so far and I'm constantly floored by how good it is.

With each episode I get more confirmation as to why this is my favorite show of the Summer 08 Season. Granted it definitely helps that I found the first season to be awesome and one of my favorites for its time. Hence leading me to easily anticipate the second season. A second season I'm glad to be watching. Really the only thing wrong with Hidamari Sketch is the fact I don't have R1 DVDs of it yet. (Yeah I had to say that)

Up next, July 30th! This episode did say "to be continued" so I assume we'll return to Chika's stay at Hidamari-sou before the end. I really can't wait for more. <3

If we're lucky we'll be seeing more of Chika in future episodes. The sooner the better. Granted not just Chika, I'd like to experience some more of the other side girls as well. Such as Natsume for example. That would be so perfect.

The animation is this episode was really beautiful, especially during the bath singing. I also liked the beginning when Yuno says "It's a beautiful morning!" and they have that great still scene of her which looked like a painting.

This season does just keep getting better- which is rather impressive given how good it is consistently.

I'm not sure I'd agree that Sae is the weakest of the leads... I tend to put Sae and Hiro on the same level (surface. A bed would suffice nicely.), with Miya and Yuno as more in the lead. It's pointless worrying about it though- it wouldn't be Hidamari without all of them interacting, and Sae brings the much-needed (ironically) 'straight man' persona to the mix.

Just finished watching this (the end music is still playing) and I just had to come here as soon as I could to spread the love for the episode.

First part:
Sae's absolutely awesome as well as being 100% moe-inducingly fantastic, especially when dealing with Chika on the phone. She's just had her new story approved, and Chika is going to summer school to prepare for her exams. Sae Bath-service today.

Second part:
Where we have Sae, we must have a Hiro, and this is definitly true here. Hiro and Sae are making cream puffs at school, and obviously Hiro is getting lots of attention being the perfect wife that she is. Sae is upset about her own pair of cream puffs not being very puffy, and there's a wonderful Yuno eyecatch that I SO want a wallpaper of. It also turns out that Natsume is a fan of Sae's writing, but keeps it a secret. Oh, and Yuno says what we all think, that Hiro is like a wife to Sae, and a mother to Yuno and Miyako. Hiro bath-service here, with extra flab-worries. (Hiro, you are perfect the way you are - you don't need to diet!)

Epic episode. Sae X Hiro, in all its wonderful glory.

HIRO IS SAE'S WIFE AND YUUNO AND MIYAKO'S MOTHER.

Which explains everything, the four are a family. A family that hopefully includes technical incest. Hiro and Sae need to corrupt Yuno and Miyako as soon as possible.

In terms of the first half it's interesting to finally get to meet with the editor. Plus at least we got to hear more of Chika even if we never saw her. Sae is such a nervous girl and to think she continues to brag about experience. Maybe Hiro can give Sae experience?

In terms of the second half, Hiro's motherly to the entire class it seems. Plus you have to love the apron she gave Sae. I'm not even sure I want to know what Yoshinaya is thinking anymore... Both in terms of the outfit and her imagination about Yuno being more mature.

In the end these half episodes were a perfect excuse to give us bath scenes of Sae and Hiro. So just for that alone they are approved. Now it's just a matter of waiting for episode 7 and see what glory it brings us next. I also get the feeling these will be a regular thing since they probably figured out that sometimes dragging out a story doesn't always work.

Oh yes it has to be said, Natsume is becoming a higher level of love. It's nice to see her relationship and view of Sae become so much clearer with each episode. Don't worry Natsume, maybe Hiro is willing to share. Maybe...

July 30th!

Episode 6:

- Sae sae sae! Deadlines! Family crisis! AND A NATSUME APPEARS! But only shortly. I tell you, they will give Natsume her due eventually... and it'll be awesome, I'm sure.
- I hope we get more of Sae's editor too. I like her. She makes Sae blush, therefore she must be a worthwhile person because Sae blushing makes me happy.
- Banana Bar! Quadruple itadakimasu!
- Yoko plushie! XD Yuno doesn't seem like the nekketsu mecha type... (and shouldn't it be a Kiyal doll? =P)
- And out of nowhere, let's talk relationships!
- Nia plushie!
- Yuno is so... so Yuno. Sae asked the wrong group. :sd:
- HAH! Chika and Sae's conversation was so perfect, and it shows quite clearly who is in control of that sisterly relationship. Chika is super epic imouto.
- Sae bath scene! This is a first, isn't it? Looks like colored bath water is all the rage in Hidamari-sou.
- Send the damn message, Sae!

November 11th! 11/11, Hiroemon!

- That's kinda scary, Hiro wakes up with deadeyes.
- Protect your buns from Miyako, Hiro! XD
- Hahah, and Sae gets stuck with a flowery apron. Awesome.
- Mizugiapronyoshinoya!
- Cooking master Hiro. The best part is when one of Sae's classmates looks at her and goes "Must be nice, Sae... you must be bad at cooking." XD
- YOSHINOYA! For a second, she actually sounds like a teacher... until her imagination runs away. Runs to a very good place.
- Sae's not thinking about the creme puffs anymore.
- Sae HiMM cosplay eyecatch!
- Ooooh, is that Natsume's deal? A secret admirer of Sae's work! The scene between her and Hiro was so Hidamari. (Hidamari is now a synonym for awesome.)
- Hiro seems a little jealous at the thought of Natsume being a "Tachibana Aya" fan =D
- Hiro taking care of Sae always makes me so happy tingly. And Yuno looks criminally cute in that sweater.
- "Hiro-san, you act like Sae-san's wife. And you're like a mother to us." YES! YES SHE IS! Yuno you just won the ep.
- And Hiro bath scene for the ultimate sexiness!! Plus blushing.

Up next, April 7th! Back to the start, with the school entrance ceremony! Hell yeah.

Another perfect episode from start to finish.

Excellent episode- for once Yunocchi is the most observant person in the show (or at least says what all of us have been thinking). I wonder if it's something to do with the water quality at Hidamari that they all use the colored water-things. :P I rather like the ending title scren as well, even if it's somewhat out of character for Miya (when does she ever worry about her skirt flipping up?)

After getting in and reading through the first volume of manga (it was way too short...) I'm definitely looking forward to the next episode, since from the title it's the animation of the entrance exam and welcome party (orange juice... riiiiight) stories that I just read through.

Ashyukun
08-18-2008, 08:25 PM
OK, I've gotta get this out of the way first. BOOOO! Curse you TV Censors!!!! The welcome party isn't nearly as amusing without lightweight Yunocchi getting drunk on the 'juice'. I'm guessing they couldn't do it because of the whole underage drinking thing...

Still, other than that this episode was quite good. It's the first episode I've seen that I had read the manga strips of before seeing it animated, which I really enjoyed. Most of it escaped unchanged, though the references to Natsume weren't there nor was the stuff with the landlady and room 203. That's one of the reasons I know this is so good... despite knowing exactly what's coming, I still laughed quite hard at it- like Yuno whacking Miya with the frying pan- though it would have been even funnier if they could have put the 'Even kind-hearted Yuno can't let that slide' note above it like the manga had... but there are other things that the animation can do that the manga couldn't that just more than makes up for it..

This show just wins on so many levels. Hell, this whole season of shows is completely made of win it seems. But Hidamari(a) especially. Dammit, someone needs to license this so I can get it on DVD! And sub the widescreen version already. :beat:

There's just something awesome about Yuno's expression while she kept hitting Miyako with the frying pan. It's the cutest revenge ever or well at least one of the cuter ones. So this is the point where Yuno officially meets Sae. Miyako's way of getting dressed was fun to see.

Also it's kind of nice that the episode gives us a chance to see what Misato is like. Her interaction with Hiro and Sae makes you wonder. Also their reaction when they discover which teacher Miyako and Yuno have says plenty if you ask me.

Yeah definitely the fun episode with multiple interesting moments like sleepy Hiro, Yoshinaya's introduction to her class, Miyako's reaction to the idea of Yuno learning to cook well, fun with heavy bags, etc. Do I even need to mention Hiro's comment about cooking well to keep Sae from being malnourished?

*Looks at preview* It looks like a sports festival episode. Also note the date, it takes place on the day after the one in the first season that got rained out. Which if it means what I think it means then what some hoped for after watching that episode will finally come to pass.

Episode 7:

- Heh, Ume-sensei ruins the picture this time...
- Yuno beating Miyako with a frying pan! And Sae telling them off. Funny to think this is the first time Sae and Yuno come face to face.
- And Sae is already being a good senpai for Yuno. Aww. Miyako fails at getting dressed.
- Miyako dozes off while Yuno's legs fall asleep, and then... Miyako's face in Yuno's lap! Yes!
- Misato-senpai! Koshimizu Ami! Yes! She appears not to have been quite the senpai to Hiro and Sae that Hiro and Sae are to Yuno and Miyako. :sd: And I totally want to see what her baggage is with the Landlady! It's great to finally meet the Misato who left her nametag on Yuno's door. :sd:
- Yoshinoya's class introduction scene is perfect. The lazy randomness turns straight into the sexual harassment. XD Miyako got so close to having Yuno be the nude model too...
- "Yuno's exact weight is..." Even the hair on the back of Yuno's head blushes. XD
- SURPRISE ATTACK! Good lord do I love Miyako. Swift justice! And I love how she plays word games. Instant victory!
- XD Miyako and Yuno undergo a real world lesson in the laws of momentum. The silliest little stuff in this show makes me so happy.
- Natsume stories! Sort of. We need to get into what makes that girl tick eventually. Seems she has a long history with Sae.
- Awesome atmosphere as the conversation turns to Yoshinoya. XD
- More of Hiro's massive baggage about room 203. They can't keep teasing us about that forever. Hmm, a comment about Hiro's wallpaper looking new freaks her out. What the hell happened? :sd:
- Ooooh! She was coming out of the room looking suspicious.
- Bwahhaa, it's that silica gel...

<3 <3 Super mega extreme laid back episode. More of their early days, plus a little more on Misato, Room 203, and Natsume.

That would be my guess, if she weren't so freaked out about it. And if it's something she wanted to hide, she wouldn't have asked for the Landlady's help. And for it to be something that caused her to have to replace her wallpaper... >______>

Which is even voiced by the mangka herself. Which might give an indication as to her involvement in the anime adaptation. Or maybe not depending on how you gauge things.

Hah, yeah... as long as people try to remember to use a shorter form in the actual posts themselves though, given how threaded/hybrid stupidly truncate subject lines. The first ep 7 post shows up as Ashyukun Hidamaria Sketchbook x365 Ep.... 08-18-2008, 09:25 PM - ep... ep what? Stupid, stupid VB. That's why I'm making it shorter when I reply. So, I finally got tired of waiting and threw together my own subbed version of the HD widescreen episode one.

WOW. Not only does x365 look incredible in HD, I was struck again by just how beautiful the first episode really is in content as well. The scene where Miya breaks Yuno out of the funk she'd been in and the swarm of her X's is flying around is just gorgeous. That whole aspect- Yuno's being apprehensive and a bit depressed about being there isn't in the manga, but it works incredibly well and it part of why this show is jus so good- the original manga is great, but the anime just raises it exponentially.

I've actually been watching widescreen versions of the episodes off and on myself. Yeah I know, but hey I figure it this way it gives me more excuses to re-watch the episode(s) yet again. In any case the widescreen version definitely looks rather nice. Although to be honest this is the first time I've seen a separate sub thread made for the widescreen version of an episode. Not sure what to think of that. That being a certain moment in the 16:9 version of episode 5 makes it even clearer that things are being cut off in the 4:3 version. Granted that's expected and expected, but it's still interesting to experience it for real.

Yeah.... with as far behind as I am on some other shows, I still make the time to go back and watch this one again simply so I can see the higher quality/widescreen version. I figured since I was going back and talking about the earlier episode I should make sure it didn't get confused with the newer episodes. :P

It's been evident at different points in almost all of the episodes that the show was meant to be in widescreen and was getting cut off in the 4:3 broadcast. It'll be interesting to see if they end up putting this out on Blu-ray.... the files I've seen have definitely looked good, but have also definitely had their issues that I would hope a good BRD release wouldn't have.

October 10th!

Episode 8:

- Bwahahah!! The "ayafuya rocket" bit was replaced with a "yukkuri shiteitte ne"! Ahahahahahah you are the best OP ever.
- Sports festival day! Yuno is worried she'll bring everyone down, but Sae tells her having fun is what matters. Well, at least until Natsume comes over to goad her on, getting Sae into a super competitive mood >_>
- Time for the events! Mmmm, delicious cheerleader Yoshinoya.
--- Scavenger hunt race - Yuno - She has to find a dog, but when she does, goes into a cuteness trance petting it.
--- Obstacle course - Miyako - Flawless victory, except for trying to limbo under the finish line. Also, why is she barefoot? :sd:
--- Centipede race - All four - More flawless victory, with the other teams wondering how they can walk in time so perfectly without falling while chatting so much. Do not underestimate Hidamari-sou!
--- Ball toss - All four - Red team gets behind so the girls make a human pyramid for Yuno to toss the balls in easily. Except that puts her in the line of fire for everyone else. Ass!
- Intermission. White team is up by 19 points, and Hiro brings out... LUNCH! It's all white, which is strange since they're the red team >_> Maybe by eating white they're conquering their opponents? :sd: The landlady comes over and Yuno... introduces herself? Ah, well, I suppose this is the first time she got to meet her and stop and say who she was. Now, back to the events!
--- Cheerleading - Hiro - Ou-en-dan!
--- Spoon race - Hiro - WINNAR!
--- Musical chairs - Hiro - WINNAR again! Her delicious voluptuous ass bumps her opponent right off the chair. XD
--- Er, some pole thing - Hiro - The girls comment on how motivated she seems to be... burnin' calories! 173 to 179, red team is closing the gap. And finally...
--- Relay race! - All four - Yuno pulls anchor duty! When it's Sae's turn, Yoshinoya steals the microphone and talks about how Sae's flat body avoids wind resistance. o_O Then it's Yuno and... GO GO YUNO! GOOOO! She wins! <3
- Red team edges out White team for the win! ...Sort of. Turns out Red and White teams are like eighty points behind everyone else. Bwahhaa, so that's what happens when you pit artists against the general education students. =P Although, honestly, I never stopped to realize that their school wasn't entirely an arts vocational school. :sd:
- Now we get the post-game snacks and chat back at Hidamari-sou, with a look at some other events. Sae and Miyako were the big winners for Red Team. If only there were a few more Miyakos in the art program. Then again that thought is somewhat scary. Also, Miyako getting her face all close to Yuno's = <3
- Awwwwww. Natsume was crying. ;_; I hope she gets an episode to herself soon.
- Hiro watching Lovely Chocolat, with Nozomu and Behoimi. They comment on how the actors are getting too old for their roles. :sd: Lots of references in this conversation to events in other episodes.

And goodnight, Yuno. <3 As usual, a perfect episode.

This episode definitely confirms that the Red vs White competition runs deeper than just Sae vs Natsume. Especially with Yoshinaya having them sing a victory song. I just love how beating the White team is more important than anything else. Blue Team? Pink Team? It's all about crushing the White Team.

Ah yes, Yuno go ahead and pet the dog. Hiro's rapid victory scenes were awesome, especially musical chairs. Also Yuno's version of the anchor scene definitely for the classic just keep running version. The events in general were nice.

Heh nothing like having them remind us that whoever works on this show has to have some type of reference guide with them. Foreshadowing and uh back-shadowing it is the way of the Sunshine Sketch. Well whatever works in the long run.

Episode 9:

- Yoshinoya is bad at waking up =D
- OP: Miyako takes a new approach to rice. Also, holy shit Yoshinoya cosplaying Yuuko! <3 SHAFT.
- This episode is loooooooooaded with Yoshinoya goodness. She's making midsummer greeting cards, which involve her painting large backdrops and photographing herself in cosplay in front of them. I approve. Of course, the principal does not.
- Landlady has yet another part time job...
- Yoshinoya even gets Natsume to help deliver the cards. And man, now it's all weird to hear Strike Witches' Yoshika when Natsume speaks.
- This is definitely the adults' episode. Now we even get Principal, Kuwabara and Yoshinoya doing fireworks together. The Principal even acknowledges that despite her shortcomings, Yoshinoya truly loves her students, and has never given up her passion for art. Awww.
- Yoshinoya bath scene! They're definitely making the rounds this season =D Thus ends part 1.

December 3rd! Repent! The Wolf of Ura-Shinjuku part II? Did we have a Part I? =P

- Yuno and Miyako write letters to each other even though they're neighbors. TOO FUCKING CUTE! They're all heading off to an independent film festival this time.
- Oooh it's the film that former student we've met twice made. Such cuteness when Yuno is talking to Kishi about it.
- Oh god, I so want to see Miyako's proposed musical suspense film.
- After seeing Kishi's film, all the girls feel energized. Sae writes a new story, Hiro cooks an exquisite meal, Miyako, uh, scribbles a flip-page animation in her physics book. Yuno drew something but we don't see it yet.
- Sae gets a call from her editor... they sent along a fan letter! Oh god let it be Natsume!
- They don't yet say if it is, but Sae's reaction to it is beyond adorable. Awwwwww.
- And it ends with a Yuno bath, and then Yuno writing her reply to Miyako's letter.

Way, way too cute. The first half was nice for some focus on the adults, and the second was absolutely lovely. <3 Please please please let the last few eps come quickly!

Even with as much good as there is to watch this season, little delighted me more than finding that there was a new episode of this for me to watch. :D

The half-episode focusing on the adults was great... I love how they tie things back and forth, since we saw the arrival of the greeting cards she was making in an earlier episode, and the principal's grudging praise of Yoshinoya was rather touching.

Miyako's flipbook animation was pretty cool! Of course it would focus entirely on food. :P Hopefully we'll see what Yuno was drawing later (thinking back I don't think I remember anything about it in the eps that have already 'happened'). The more of these better. I approve of Yoshinoya's body. Just as I approve of the bodies of a certain group of students. Yeah so I believe in variety.

Yuno and Miyako write letters to each other even though they're neighbors. TOO FUCKING CUTE!

One has to imagine just how close two people have to be in order to be willing to do that. Given that involves extra work and even when some live far away from each, they may not feel like taking the time to even just send an email let alone an actual letter.

Oooh it's the film that former student we've met twice made. Such cuteness when Yuno is talking to Kishi about it.

It's nice to be able to see Kishi on occasion and it was fun that we even get to see (part of) one of her films too.

Oh god, I so want to see Miyako's proposed musical suspense film.

It would potentially be the greatest thing ever. And who knows? Maybe there's already an anime close to the idea.

After seeing Kishi's film, all the girls feel energized.

Since Kishi is good for motivation, they should definitely watch more of her films.

-They don't yet say if it is, but Sae's reaction to it is beyond adorable. Awwwwww.

I'm going to pretend the fan letter is from Natsume for now. So long as they don't say other wise.

And it ends with a Yuno bath, and then Yuno writing her reply to Miyako's letter.

Ah yes letter writing is fun. It's good practice to build their relationship as we wait for the moment where Yuno confesses to Miyako and.... wait that's just my fantasy.

Whoa.... two days in a row with new Hidamaria goodness. And it's not even my birthday!

This episode goes back a little ways to when Yuno still had the caterpillar and still hadn't met the landlady (June 8th). After a day of sculpting shoes out of clay (and Miyako using them to play a prank on Sae...), Yuno comes home to find that her parents have stopped by for a visit since they took a day of vacation to go out and enjoy themselves. Yuno's parents meeting everyone was great, especially Miya-chan ("They don't have X's....") and the misunderstanding with Sae's hair. They even apparently see what's hiding in the empty apartment on the second floor... I suspect we'll be finding out about that soon.

I think this is the first time as well that I can think of where we don't see Yuno drop the bath salts into the tub...

Yuno's complex about her shoe size was incredibly cute.

Natsume's smile when Sae said "Aren't we?" was adorable. I still want to know what Natsume's deal is with Sae. I mean aside from being a total tsundere for her. It seems like something happened between them at some point, at least from Natsume's perspective. Sae was probably oblivious to whatever it was and that's probably part of the cause.

Poor Sae gets mistaken for a boy.

Hiro and Sae need to adopt Yuno. This scene is clearly foreshadowing of that happening in Hidamaria Sketchbook for Life.

It seems like something happened between them at some point, at least from Natsume's perspective. Sae was probably oblivious to whatever it was and that's probably part of the cause.

I'm still going to theorize that it's related to Hiro. Notice her expression change the second Sae is like "Oh, Hiro's waiting for me". Epic love triangle with poor Natsume being the third wheel.

I'll volunteer myself to comfort poor Natsume. :catgirl:

Your ep 10 is a reply to an ep 9. post.

It happened again, in a different thread yes, but... And with that, I'm starting to conclude I really will have to triple check each new started sub hread. So much for blind faith. I guess the solution is to start using threaded more often.

No problem, just follow the three requests in the top post (repeated in most discussion threads nowadays) and it'll be fine no matter what mode you use. When you come in as the first person posting about an ep (like here), reply to the original, first post, rather than the most recent post or some other post. Where, oh where are the widescreen versions? :(
Standing around the corner, mocking us, no doubt. I really have to wonder why the current eps are even being released 4:3 at all after this long delay, considering the widescreen versions are already available. It's not like 4:3 adds a damn thing other than speed, and with that speed advantage lost weeks ago, they have nothing.

Oh well. (And I know, I didn't reply directly, because I wanted to get it under the right subthread. Blue arrow will still go back to the post.)

June 8th!

Episode 10:

- Yuno does her best Taiga/Louise thighhigh putting-on impression! Well ok they're not really thighhighs but it's the thought that counts.
- Hmm don't think I saw anything new in the OP. I know we're almost out of episodes, but they totally need to have Miyako and Yuno do the paper plane of passionate yuri in the OP one ep. Guessing they didn't though.
- Ahahaha, Yoshinoya is delightfully random. "If anyone's shoes cost more than mine, I'm confiscating them!" :sd:
- XD Awww, Yuno. I love the shoe size comparison.
- Ice skates! Smelly shoes! And you know, I'd forgotten boys even went to their school. At least, you almost never hear them speak.
- "They're not bigger! It's your imagination!" XD
- Heh just as Yoshinoya does something teacherly, she resumes her life crisis.
- NATSUME IS SO CUTE! Her face totally lights up when Sae says they're friends, and then gets vicious when Hiro is mentioned. Poor Natsume, you're lovely but if there's one girl you'll never compare to, it's the almighty Hiro. Sorry!
- Landlady lies like a pro. XD
- HAH! Miyako is brilliant. That's putting art to good use.
- BWAHHAH! "They don't have X's". Miyako meets her future in-laws! Yay!
- "It's short, and not her hair color..." XD Awww, poor Sae. :sd:
- T-Time!
- That caterpillar. Ah! That's the one that became a moth, isn't it? :sd:
- Misato's trap. :sd:
- Oh god Yuno and her dad are so adorably awkward. Yuno's cuteness knows no bounds.
- Mom and dad see room 203. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S IN THERE!
- "Except for one..." XD!

That was so cuuute ;_;

Next up, September 28th! And holy crap it looks like it'll be amazing. Two new girls, and... panties! Want!!

Yuno's bag is quite packed today. Seems she made plenty of food. Ah yes so Miyako joined the field day organization committee. Why? Because she raised her hand out of drowsiness. There's the profound reason, well at least for Miyako it is.

Ah yes Yuno sees a no trespassing sign and thus decides to put on sunglasses and live dangerously. Her destination being the school roof in order to eat her meal. From here she can see Miyako drawing lines in the ground. Although I doubt she's supposed to be drawing anything that fancy.

Now Yuno is singing while on the roof which attracts an audience, but they're interested in her food not her singing. Yuno is attacked by birds! Yuno talks about being a fan of schoolroof tops since middle school. Yuno gets kidnapped by aliens? Oh never mind it's a dream scene. Still sleeping Yuno is cute. Sleepy Yuno notices Hiro and Sae which makes her realize class is starting. Thus she panics.

Yuno and Miyako are done with P.E. and they meet up with Sae who is looking for Hiro. She notes that Hiro has been missing a lot during breaks and after school. Don't worry Sae, I'm sure your wife is just fine. Miyako's "If you thought you knew everything about her, you're wrong" speech is wrong on so many levels.

It's a changing room scene and one of the girls is having fun. The end result is we learn that Yuno is wearing print panties. Although it's a zoomed in view so that it looks like a wallpaper than panties. Still it's an educational experience and at least we get to see the lower body of one of the girls. So I guess it's something.

Yuno has forgotten her jersey top and is off to retrieve it. Miyako will go ahead and take Yuno's bag with her. Yuno passes her bag to Miyako, but instead of catching it, Miayko knocks it back to Yuno. Err I guess Miyako is still in volleyball mode. Moving forward a bit... Yuno has found her jersey and hears a crash. Could it be a suspicious guy? Yuno prepares for battle with a broom and dustpan. Ah she finds a collapsed Hiro.

Seems like we're getting a quick time jump because the four are now in the apartment building. Ah so like with an earlier episode, we're getting the girls talking about what happened. Hiro was taken to the infirmary and Miyako notes that carrying her was difficult. Err yeah, she just had to say that.

Ah so Yuno needed help from Miyako to carry Hiro. Sae wants to wait for Hiro to wake up to find out what happened. Suddenly a Yoshinaya appears wondering if she can wake up Hiro with a kiss. Sensei, I need to be awakened with a kiss too! Heh she even kisses her on the cheek and this bothers Sae. I wonder why.

Sae and Yuno discuss where Hiro was found and we get one of those seven mysteries talk. Why can't it ever be six or eight mysteries? One after another members of the drama club collapsed there. Yuno wonders if that takes care of all seven mysteries at once. Regardless it's time to look for themselves and Yoshinaya is going with them because she has nothing else to do.

The area has a low ceiling forcing people to bend down. Well some people anyway, Yuno can still stand straight up. Ah there's even a full-body mirror there. Miyako just has to do a poor chalk drawing of Hiro on the ground... She also puts a mask on Yuno while they're in a room with costumes.

Back in the present, Sae comes up with a theory. Hiro buys a pair of pants, finds they're too tight, does her best to get them to fit, and collapses from lack of nutrition. Miyako now concludes that Sae knows everything about Hiro.

The doctor wants help removing Hiro's pant, which Sae and Miyako are willing to give. Success, the pants are removed. Along with Hiro's pink panties. Yeah it figures she'd be wearing such a pair. It also means she's now half naked under there. So yeah I think about things like that. Miyako offers Hiro food and the trio lecture Hiro about eating properly.

However according to Hiro the reason she collapsed was different. Most of Sae's theory was true, but the reason for the collapse was not lack of nutrition, but hitting her head on the ceiling. A fate that Yoshinaya herself meets, but sadly no one is there to find her. Thus she becomes the eight mystery!

The four are talking a bit about dieting and food. They're now outside Miyako's apartment. They hear something from room 203. Sae wants to investigate, but Hiro is trying to prevent her from doing so. Hiro claims it's been making that noise ever since she lived there. Ah so Hiro used to be in room 203? Mysterious.

Yuno opens the door to see what's inside, but Hiro covers her eyes. Not that it prevents from Miyako and Sae from seeing anythng. Which makes one wonder what the point of covering Yuno's eyes was. Ah a bunch of exercise equipment. Seems the landlady was in there too. Miyako confronts Hiro about all of this.

I guess the conclusion is that Hiro uses or at least used 203 as an exercise room. Hiro wants Miyako to keep things secret. Although while watching them, Sae notes that neither are good about keeping secrets.

Either way it's been quite the day for Yuno. Yuno apparently hears the cries of Yoshinaya still trapped in school. A scared Yuno decides to bathe with Miyako. Although there's not much room in there. Ah well, in any case the next episode is "July 7th, Don't Look" and let's just say based on the initial watch it will be an interesting one.

Edit: Wow I can't believe I typed all of that out, but it has been awhile. So I guess it evens out in the long run.

I was quite pleased to find this out today. Still I kind of have to wonder why it was done with the non-widescreen version when the series has aired in its entirety in widescreen...

The first part (Yuno and the rooftop lunch) was very amusing to me- it's in the second volume of the translated manga that came in the mail while I was out of town last week so had just read it a few days ago. Sae's being able to come so close in guessing what happened to Hiro was amusing- as was Yuno trying to get into Miya's hammock. The explanation for room 203 still doesn't make the most sense though, at least why Hiro is so uncomfortable about it.

Finally, I highly approve of this episode's ending picture.

I need to get around to reading my copy of volume 2 of the manga soon. It came around Saturday and is still waiting for me to be enlightened by it. It's only a matter of time before I get around to reading it though. Hmm I wonder how long before YenPress solicits volume 3.

Well in terms of "reading", the volume doesn't have much competition since most of my manga collecting has been put on hold. It's main competition has come from things like juggling watching anime and playing games. Such is life. Still I think what I'll do is ignore stuff like the forums for a short bit and let music play in the background while I read the volume.

Blah, I really want to wait for the last ep, because lord knows it might be ANOTHER five weeks until that one comes out, but I don't want to wait =/ Go figure almost every other damn show gets half a dozen versions released within a week. I just have never ever been able to wrap my head around what is it about this show that it's had such awful luck. ::grumble moan grumble:: Anyway, apparently it's 13 episodes (last ep aired almost two months ago!), not 12 like I thought... So maybe I'll just marathon the whole show again when 13 comes out.

Also, I have a feeling this isn't the end of Hidamari anyway. Not when the first two R2 volumes have averaged 9.5k sales (which surprised the hell out of me in a good way). Shaft - or, well, the companies who would hire them on to do more - can't be turning their nose up at those kinda numbers.

That's 4 times what Tsukuyomi did, 2 times times what ef-Memo did, 2k more than Zetsubou S1 and 4k more than Zetsubou S2. Hell, if sales don't drop a lot on subsequent volumes, it'll even have outsold Negima!? (ignoring the OVA) and Pani Poni Dash. In fact, Hidamari Sketch x365 is looking to quite possibly be their best selling TV series ever.

I'm expecting a Hidamari Sketch x 730 asap! ...And the releases will be just as unfathomably slow yet again no doubt >_>

Oh anyway, on to actually watching the episode.

September 28th

Episode 11:

- Heh, I love the view from above with the roof cut out.
- Yuno needs a large bag, because where the hell ELSE is she going to put all that RIDICULOUS ABORABLENESS!?
- LOVE WIFE BENTO! LOVE WIFE BENTO!
- She kills me with cuteness every week (by which I mean every month, at this rate). Stealth mode!!
- Hah, as soon as I saw Miyako with the line painter, I knew Nazca could only be moments away.
- I see Yuno has as much luck with pigeons as Tsukasa does with deer XD
- Oh man I totally thought Yuno was going to "hazukashii serifu KINSHI!" herself right there. :sd:
- Abduction! Definitely NOT dreaming! ::cough::
- Girl meets girl! XD
- Hah! We need more of locker room girl. Nyaaah~
- Hiro collapsed! A message from the culprit! Yuno fails at hammock!
- Yoshinoya kiss! ...Nah not as good as Hiro x Sae, they're already married.
- HAHHAHA! Oh god, the pants removal. I wonder who put the panties back on? I'm also surprised Sae wasn't knocked unconscious by a nosebleed.
- Heh I love the real reason why she was unconscious... :sd: And poor Yoshinoya.
- Yes! The secret of room 203! SPILL IT!
- It's Hiro's personal workout room! XD She reviews equipment as a part time job >_>
- YUNO IS CUTE. And wow that was a creepy picture of Yoshinoya there.
- Yes! Bathing together! Slowly but surely they will make their true feelings for one another known.

It's over... need more!

I was confused about that too, but I think I get it now. She's telling everyone else she's dieting to lose weight, but she hasn't had much luck with that. And everyone can see that. No, I've seen the widescreen version- the 4:3 is cropped (it's really obvious in the ending) from the widescreen. No, I'm thinking that perhaps only full-screen is being released to encourage people to pick up the DVDs to see the widescreen and/or since the widescreen I believe just aired on pay-channels and not free ones... i.e., it's for ethical reasons.

Hopefully they're just waiting for the entirety of the show to be released to license it and release it in a nice collection for us. I did that with the first episode after waiting quite a while for it from elsewhere- it didn't take much effort at all. I've just been lazy and not bothered with doing the others for myself yet. I'm still being hopeful that we'll get a domestic release and it will be rendered a moot point...

I don't know perhaps by channeling the power and abilities of the proper spirits, they'll manage to make even the Principal's arc a winning arc. Also maybe he'll get one of the shorter arcs anyway. Either Natsume's arc needs to be at least four episodes. On another note, the idea of this being called Hidamari(a) Sketch(book) x ~After Story~! makes me think heavily about the other series that the name involves.
Which one- it involves like 4 or 5 total. :P (though I would guess you mean the new addition to the name...)

Well he probably meant 'series' in its plural form =P

Man what I wouldn't give to see Yuno, Nagisa, Shimako, Akari and Sora in a room together. It'd be the most hilariously polite and unoffensive conversation EVER.

Whoever said I was only thinking about one of the series? If you want to get technical I'm thinking about all five series in question. Obviously thanks to the new addition, I'm thinking about "Clannad ~After Story~" has been pretty nice so far.

I'm thinking about how it would be nice if "Sketchbook ~full colors'~" got another season. Or at the very least I'd like the anime and manga licensed. Yeah I've been reading some of the manga, I'll confess to that. Some scenes are familiar and some are new to me.

I'm thinking about how it will be nice once I have Maria Watches over us Season 2. I'm also thinking about the four season that will start airing soon. I wonder if I should hold off on that until I've re-watched season 3.

I'm thinking about how I need to eventually order Aria the Natural Part 1.And yes I suppose I'm also thinking about the fact there needs to be an Aria where Ai is the main focus. Maybe a short OVA series?

It also goes without saying that I'm thinking about the fact that 28 episodes of Sunshine Sketch is not enough. It goes without saying I'm thinking about how great it would be if the anime is licensed. I'm also looking forward to volume 3 of the manga in April. Yay for that.

Sadly my ability to detect a post is currently being edited has never worked properly. Well either way I like the updated version much better. Now we just need to wait for it to become a reality. Now I just need to decide if I should edit that post in question or just make a new reply to the updated version. Hmm probably best to do the latter to keep the conversation from becoming too confusing.

If I ever decide to commission one of the artists I know to do another anime drawing for me, I'd probably have to ask for something like that...

Why do I have the feeling that somehow that would end up with Nagisa convincing everyone (however badly it may be *cough*Yuno*cough*) to sing the Dango Daikazoku song? :P

One of these days I should get around to picking up and watching Marimite, it's the only one of the modified name that I've not watched...

It's a pity we couldn't convince the companies to license the remaining unlicensed properties and collaborate to release a Hidamaria Sketchbook ~After Story~ mega-box-set.

I can just picture the scene now... both of them staring in confusion at Sora, who is just standing there clutching a still-dripping sketchbook with her head tilted slightly down so her hair hides her eyes, blushing madly but with a strange smile on her face. Then, Natsumi makes the mistake of asking (via one of her puppets...), "So, how was your visit?"

Yes! Finally!

July 7th, Tanabata!

Episode 12:

- Hah, oh wow. Yuno and Miyako ask Sae where Hiro is (they're not walking to school together) and Sae irritatedly says she doesn't know, and implies she doesn't care. A domestic dispute! Miyako and Yuno are SHOCKED.
- Passion... surface... PERVERT! Oh god the puns. I love Yuno's imagination of the Hidamari-sou falling apart XD
- Suddenly, bamboo!
- The art in this episode is a bit weird. You can tell they brought someone different in. It's especially noticeable when Hiro is chowing down, complaining about Sae to Yuno and Miyako.
- But with Sae and Hiro fighting... Natsume CHANCE!! Her blushing is sooooo cute.
- Woah is one of Natsume's friends Sawashiro Miyuki? Oh it totally is. The way she says "zenzen", it can't be anyone else.
- Those magical ever-changing mailbox colors... And some totally random Miyako/Yuno Cuteservice!
- Heh! They go talk to Sae about it and after hearing her side, Miyako immediately declares Sae is in the wrong XD
- Yuno notes that she and Miyako have never really fought. Miyako wonders what would make Yuno mad. She does manage to find something. Yuno's little scream is perfect. XD
- Awwwwwwwww. Such a cute make-up scene between Hiro and Sae <3 Hopefully followed by a make-out scene.
- After making up, mommy and daddy come to thank their kids for mediating the dispute. Then they all happily decorate the bamboo.
- They all then get to writing their wishes on their tanzaku:
- Yuno: "That Aomushi-kun is able to safely turn into a butterfly" (lol...)
- Miyako: "To be able to eat lots of sweets until next tear" (no surprise)
- Hiro: "For Sae to be able to keep coming up with such wonderful ideas." (awww...) / "To have a good metabolism" / "To score well on my tests" / "To win the lucky draw at BerryMart" and on it goes. I didnt know you could do so many.
- Sae: "For Hiro's diet to go well." (XD)
- And of course they all also wrote their wishes that they'c continue to get along. So cute~
- Oooh, a little more Yunobathservice than usual.
- Yuno, oh god Yuno. She wonders what it'd be like to fight with and then make up with Miyako, but just winds up depressing herself. :sd:

Oh hey, it continues...

Episode 13:

- The OP picture this time has everyone! Yay!
- Yuno, looking criminally cute, returns to Hidamari-sou after winter vacation. Miyako was awaiting her return before the OP.
- "Everyone told me I got a little taller!" ::silence::
- Oh wow, nice Yoshinoya shot.
- So Hiro and Sae got back two days before the others? No wonder they're so tired, they must have spent those days doing nothing but ::censored::
- Hatsumode! They stop by Yoshinoya('s parent)'s house on the way, and invite her along.
- Cute Natsume eyecatch.
- Haha, brilliant Miyako, refer to Hiro as the yokozuna. :sd:
- After donations and prayers, it's time for omikuji. Natsume arrives and sees Sae and Hiro...
- AWWWWWWW! The talk of the fan letter and Natsume's reaction was just... awwwwwwwwwwwwww~~
- Heh, Natsume's prayer is to stop hiding her true feelings from Sae. :sd:
- Sae is dressed like an old lady. That necklace really needs to go.
- Natsume~~~ In almost any other situation I'd totally ship her and Sae, but being up against Hiro is just... well, too great an obstacle.
- Landlady looking all fancy in a kimono.
- Awww, oh god that was so cute. They move to Yuno's room and eat and continue chatting and then it's time to go. They close the door behind them and Yuno walks back into her room, looking a bit restless. Then suddenly she dashes back out and starts to call for them, they look back questioningly and then... "Tadaima~!" Gaaaaah, adorable~~~
- And it ends with them all in their respective rubs singing Sketch Switch. Hah.

I'm not sure what the best part was. Her imagining Sae kicking down the whole place or her imagining the roses afterward.

But with Sae and Hiro fighting... Natsume CHANCE!! Her blushing is sooooo cute.

Natsume should take any chance she can get. If only Hiro, Natsume and Sae could come to an agreement with each other.

Heh! They go talk to Sae about it and after hearing her side, Miyako immediately declares Sae is in the wrong XD

In a sense I have to agree with Miyako's way of thinking in regard to Sae being so reliant on Hiro.

Awwwwwwwww. Such a cute make-up scene between Hiro and Sae <3 Hopefully followed by a make-out scene.

That scene gave a very good idea how attached Hiro is to Sae. Especially with the way Hiro cried. Miyako's pillow donation was kind of cute. As for the make-out stuff, I like to assume whenever they're both off screen, they're doing it.

After making up, mommy and daddy come to thank their kids for mediating the dispute. Then they all happily decorate the bamboo.

I wonder if mommy and daddy support incest between the sisters. The bamboo scene with the various things the characters ended up writing was certainly telling.

Oooh, a little more Yunobathservice than usual.

Suddenly the world became a better place because of that.

Yuno, oh god Yuno. She wonders what it'd be like to fight with and then make up with Miyako, but just winds up depressing herself. :sd:

I found that to be a short and highly effective scene. One that both fits Yuno well and gives insight to how she feels about Miyako. One of my favorite moments of the episode, but I feel partially guilty for saying it since it's a scene where Yuno got depressed.

I need to do the re-watch of episode 13 as soon as possible. However I also need to sleep. Hence I'll save watching that episode for later when I'm awake enough to better focus on it. At least I know it's waiting for me to come and experience whatever potential awesome it may have.

The stuff with Natsume was just awesome. The fanletter, her wish, her interaction with Sae, and more or less everything. She really needs to get an episode with her as the main focus in a future season. That would definitely be well worth watching.

Having the girls sing the opening to the first season near the end of the episode was kind of nice and nostalgic. Speaking of singing that song Yuno messed up back in episode 4 of the first season has become quite the staple of the series? I wonder how many times it's come up.

In general the episode was pretty nice with so much awesome already described by others and I'm not sure how I want to word things myself right now. Regardless it makes for a good cut-off point. I refuse to call it an ending because it's considered a national crime for the series to end. It's only allowed to take occasional breaks so the next set of awesome can be properly prepared.

The need for more Chika is another reason why the series must continue on. There's no other way to provide enough time for the awesome. Chika being voiced by Kugimiya Rie definitely helps too.

Episode 13, final photo during the OP (http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t299/anon09876/HidamariSketchx365-13SpoonSubs00355.png)

Who the hell is the girl on the far left? Fence and I couldn't figure it out. Everyone else in that shot is reasonably important. I'm assuming the woman behind Chika is the former student turned director, Kishi Maiko, and I agree she deserves a spot (that hair is darker than her normal color, which is the only source of confusion).

But this one... who? Far as I know I've sourced all the named characters in the three ANN entries and none were her.

I also went through the entire ひだまり tag on pixiv, ditto danbooru, and the only black haired character was 有沢 (Arisawa) who is not detailed in the English Wikipedia article, only the Japanese, which has no pictures (grumble stupid jp wiki grumble).

It's not Nazuna or Nori (characters that haven't been animated yet) either. And too bad, could have been a great way to drop hints at season three. Nor does it appear to be either of the original characters from Hidamari-sou e Youkoso or Hidamari School Life, from what I can gather. Neither appeared in the anime anyway.

She's holding a microphone so I was trying to remember if we had seen anything about a film or journalism or communications club but nothing comes to mind. I almost got a "young Yoshinoya" vibe for a second but the hair color is wrong and we never saw a young Yoshinoya, did we? It's not either of Natsume's friends either.

It's just weird that every other character in the image is reasonably important (even Misato, though we didn't *see* her much) but this one just completely evades me despite spending so much time looking into it.

...Maybe she's simply there to get people to waste two hours scouring the internet and both seasons of it show itself looking for an answer.

I do want to see that, but I think we'll be ready for that in... oh about nine seasons from now. We need at least eight more with the current gang, then we can get another ten with the new characters!

And even then we'd only be at ~260 episodes, well short of where it needs to be until I'll consider it complete! My ideal would be to have so much Hidamari that I can essentially watch their entire high school life in real time from day one to graduation. By my rough calculations this should only require approximately 70,000 episodes.

Of course that's just the appetizer, then we do it through four years of college.

The singing-in-the-bath scene really was the most awesomely perfect ending to the season, though it's bittersweet in that for now there isn't any more of it to watch. At least I can console myself in reading the manga as it is slowly translated and released.

I think my pick for favorite character is... Miyachi! (Miya wearing Yuno's X's during the bathhouse visit). Really though, I have to agree that there really aren't and bad characters in the series- there are definitely ones I prefer to see over others (thankfully they're the main characters :P), but it's always a treat when any of the others show up.

I do so wish this would get licensed... though if it were to get released on Blu-ray in R2 I'd be almost certain to jump at it...

I'll grab that eventually just to support the franchise. And from what I've heard of Yen Press, I respect their business philosophy, so there's that bonus too. I've been quite pleased with the manga so far... they make a fairly good attempt at balancing localizing things in the translation and simply realizing that some things you just can't localize and they just leave alone and have a page or so of translation notes in the back. My only gripe is the slow release rate, but I'd rather have it done slowly and right vs. fast and sub-par.

I wouldn't worry too much about at least the translated manga vs. the anime- the two volumes that are out have either been animated in their entirety in these first two seasons or at worst there's one or two stories that haven't been covered... but I'm almost certain that all of it has been covered by the original and x365, so you wouldn't be 'reading ahead' of the anime with what has been released so far.

I'm thinking more about the Nori/Nazuna stuff, whenever Yen gets there. While "spoilers" are hardly a worry in the Hidamari-verse, their introduction is, I would assume, the biggest change to the story in some time. I'd rather experience them in anime first. But yeah, the first few volumes would already have been animated I suppose.

Yeah, I don't have any idea how far they are from that... honestly I'd never heard of them until this discussion came up. I'm pretty certain there are still stories from the anime that haven't been covered by Yen's releases yet as well, so you can easily pick up the existing volumes without worry.

I loved everything involving Natsume in these last two episodes. At this point, they leave little to the imagination as to how she feels about Sae (she wants to be more than just friends). The series desperately needs more of her. More Chika would also be appreciated.

I also loved the (incredibly brief) shot of Hiro and Sae at the Tanabata Tree in episode 12, with Sae's hand on Hiro's shoulder. I find Sae kind of boring, but they still make an incredibly cute couple.

All right remember how some of the episodes were like two episodes in one? Like for example episode four. Well based on what I can gather, they're now essentially treated as two separate episodes. In point of fact it would seem based on episode four that they've even made new previews to further the separation.

Make of this what you will, but I figured some might be curious to know about this. Still I find it kind of interesting they decided to go ahead and do that. It's just too bad I still can not provide the DVD related information that I want to provide.

Note: According to someone this episode is 12.5

February 24th

Sleepy Yuno with her teddy bear gets awakened by the alarm clock. Opening time. Yuno has breakfast and there's an X on her bread. Miyako has arrived. Miyako and Yuno are spending time together when Sae takes a surprise picture.

Since Yuno was surprised she ends up looking strange in the picture. Now it's time for some weird crossover between a camera and giant monster thanks to Miyako's imagination.

Sae, Yuno, and Miyako visit Hiro. Hiro is sleeping and drooling. Sae just has to take a picture of this. Now we switch to a scene of the wonderful Yoshinaya-sensei singing. She's still quite teacher. Back to the core four, Hiro is clearly not happy with that picture Sae took.

Now we get hair styles. Miyako as braided twin tails? Yuno has such a nice smile and she's looking cute, but I'm not really sure what I want to say about her style beyond that. Regardless it's quite cute.

In general, they seem to be having fun with picture taking. We get to see Yuno dressed in shorts and short shirt (that exposes her stomach) that has crossbones on it. Hiro ends up getting dressed. Miyako adds an err accessory to her outfit.

Ah, so now the principal is taking his turn at singing. He seems to be enjoying himself, but Yoshinaya is not happy at all. Go figure on that one.

This is fun, we get to see Sae with long hair. Hiro applies make up to Sae. Pose of Sae. Hiro applies make up to Yuno. Pose of Yuno. Hiro messes with Miyako. Miyako has her revenge while Yuno holds Hiro down. More pictures get taken.

A delivery and Hiro answers with a bag over her head. Some sort of discussion happens. No idea what they're saying, but I'm enjoying it anyway. Go figure on that one. Now we get an eye catch involving the four working on a movie. Yes, Miyako gets to be the monster.

Miyako does a headstand on the bed so Yuno can take a picture of her doing so. Oh that is so Miyako. Now if only her shirt could have fallen down just a bit further. Oh well, her figure stills shines through regardless. Sae writes a bit on one of the photos.

Quick scene of Yoshinaya dressed as a princess. Or maybe a queen, but regardless she's dressed up.

More writing/drawing on photos. As they show off these photos, they switch to Yoshinaya on occasion just so we can see her. Stuff happens. Yuno and Miyako prepare to leave Hiro and Sae. Then the core four have a meal together.

Meal Time Conversation. And now a scene Yuno and Miyako running into the land lady while shopping. A Natsume appears in the store. Natsume interacts with Yuno and Miyako. Back to the meal time conversation. So we got another dinner time flashback scene.

Miyako Basebal Eye Catch. Yuno and Miyako are together. Hiro and Sae get invited over. During this, Yuno calls Chika. Chika ends up talking to all four of them. Eye Catch of Yuno cleaning up.

Oh now the animators are having artistic fun with animated photos. Which includes Sae moving out of her photo and into the photo with Hiro. I'll take this as more evidence that Sae wants Hiro badly.

The core four run into a seemingly upset Yoshinaya. She must have had a long day.

February 25th

Short scene of Sae, Yuno, and Miyako each waking up, looking at a photo and reacting to it. And that ends the episode.

Episode 12.5 has a preview for episode 13. I wonder if this means the DVD version of episode 12 has a preview for 12.5? No sense having both 12 and 12.5 preview the same episode.

This episode provided an enjoyable experience. An experience that is sure to be even better in the future after experiencing it by way an informed re-watch. Hopefully sometime in the future.

I shall now return to hoping for a third season of the anime. Oh and I must remember to order volume 3 of the manga. It's good to know at least some form of Sunshine Sketch blesses the U.S. market.

According to someone at the evil forums this link (http://d.hatena.ne.jp/moonphase/20090405#p1) is announcing a "TV Special" for the series. Since I can't read Japanese, I'd like someone to confirm what's being said there.

I just hope that translates to "We realized there's still not enough Sunshine Sketch goodness. So we'll make more".

I can't really make out exactly what it's saying, but yes it does seem to be indicating there's some kind of special coming, time frame unknown.

Oh yay I can watch this now. Although the quality makes my eyes burn. Oh well.

Episode 12.5:

- Hah, second half of the OP lyrics, some tweaks, and amusing images at the end. Turban Yuno!
- Miyako really needs to learn to knock. But I guess if she doesn't, she's more likely to walk in on Yuno changing. WITH GREAT RESULTS.
- Ahaha, Sae sneaks a picture and, well.. poor Yuno! XD
- Miyako! Hah. Polaroidon!
- Karaoke...
- Oh Hiro. Hair down is nice, and suggesting you do their hair too is even nicer! Looks like we get the styles from the OP here.
- Ahhhhh! Oh man Yuno is adorable in that outfit!!
- Kara...notok.
- !! Long haired Sae, dooooo want!
- Uh, Hiro, that looks kinda like hooker makeup. lol at the poorly timed delivery.
- The cuteness is overwhelming. I am soooo digging Yuno in this outfit too.
- Don't mention money around Miyako. :sd:
- AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!! Natsume scene just won this episode. I didn't expect to see her, but that was so sweet. At first I thouht she was either going to yell at Yuno and Miyako, or maybe cry, but then she's really nice to them instead <3
- Chika! Ah they're inviting her over for the visit we see in episode 5 of this season.
- And... Hiro gets her revenge. :sd:

So this was February 24-25.

Really really fun episode, and we can only hope there will be much more. Looking forward to what seems to be the "Chou Hidamari Z" special(s?), but realllllllly hoping for another TV series.

The fact we're even getting the special(s) gives me hope for another TV series. Which would be the best way for us to experience some of the new characters introduced later in the manga. In any case, I've concluded that the special(s) will be my most anticipated thing right now.

According to a post at the evil forums, this blog (http://yunakiti.blog79.fc2.com/blog-entry-3644.html) seems to indicate an October 28th release for the Special.

Also, according to another post the specials should air on October 17th and October 24th.

So if that info is correct that means it's still a couple of months away, but at least we got a good idea as to how long before we have to wait to be blessed by more sketch goodness.

Oh, yay, more finally. This thread title could probably be reverted to something more useful now though... took me awhile to figure out which show it was about. I think the joke ran its course. :sd: It just becomes harder to find in a search now.

Like for example calling it "Hidamari Sketch X 365 Discussion Thread"? Granted there's also the alternative of using Sunshine Sketch.

Just back to what you originally had would be fine: Hidamari (Sunshine) Sketch X 365 Discussion Thread

Ah, the simple answer is always the best. In any case, the joke title both makes me sad and happy.

Happy as it reminds me that we got Marimite and Aria licensed and will soon be completely released.

Sad that we still lack both a Hidamari Sketch and a Sketchbook license. It's as if the U.S. hates anime based on 4 Koma involving female art students. Yes, I'm bitter.

All right, we get stuff with bicycles.

I like the Sae and Chika together on the bike eye catch.

We get a visit from Todo. Nice to see her again. I should double check who her seiyuu is.

Wait a minute here? Did I just see the two new girls? Yes, I think I did.

Also, we get to see a Natsume. And she's riding on a bike with Sae.

Looks like we're getting to see quite a few characters. I'm suspecting these specials are partially to transition us into the next season. Could be wrong.

A bath has been taken, the episode now feels complete.

Ah, one of those short episodes after the longer episode. Yuno's route was definitely different.

Ah, we're starting off with a weird dream scene that involves service of the Yuno kind. This is an idea that I can approve of.

Now we move on to Yuno getting dressed and meeting Miyako. Yuno saves Miyako, but ends up ruining Miyako's uniform in the process.

That girl with the side ponytail is cute. I think I've seen her before. Maybe, it's another case of a slight hair color change. Sort of like the one Chika had.

Miyako is getting some definite attention.

We need more of the supporting class mates. Hopefully the class make up won't be much different even when Yuno moves up to second year.

Sae and Hiro eating lunch. Sae has grabbed Hiro's hair.

So other teachers aside from Yoshinaya do exist.:P Yes, I know, but I like making such jokes anyway.

Miyako is sleeping through it all.

Sae gives Natsumi an umbrella. Sae ends up sharing an umbrella with Hiro.

Ah, nothing like quality time spent with Yosinaya-sensei.

Miyako is drawing Yuno. I call this evidence of err something.

It looks like Yuno lost her sketchbook.

Once more Yuno's hand becomes the snack of Miyako.

Ah, now she finds her sketchbook and apparently by accident.

Required bath scene time.

Ah, I like the image that Yuno is drawing.

Another short short segment and it looks like Yuno forgot something.

Oh man, I got these mixed up with the Bonus ep (EX/12.5) and thought I'd seen at least one already, but in reality I have two Hidamari eps to watch!

Special 1:
February 10th
- Heh interesting stuff in the OP.
- Ah, how it comes full circle. Sae and Hiro were watching from that railing one year ago, now Miyako and Yuno are doing the same.
- A reminder that Chika passed her exams. Go Chika!
- And off Yuno and Miyako go, to meet... Kiyomi? Sounds familiar but I'm not sure. Seems it's just a classmate.
- A bike! Hiro sits on it and... Oh Hiro, you poor girl. We all know the truth, though. It's nto fat, it's sexiness!
- Yuno's X has a sweatdrop. XD
- Hiro is great. She knows that Sae lies horribly about romantic experience, but Hiro totally humors her anyway. (It was Chika!)
- Yuno + zettai ryouiki!
- Ah yeah, I vaguely remember this from the manga. I think. Either that or I skimmed this ep previously, but I don't think I did. Anyway Hiro is a lefty! Yuno can ride now!
- Gaaaah, Yuno is too adorable when she's thanking them.
- Toudou... Inoue Marina! Awesome. I sort of remember her. I also remember us trying so hard to figure out who the heck she was in the OP pictures before the sports festival ep.
- Toudou gets a bit more than she expected. "Normal" huh?
- Hah, wow, now that is a creative angle. From below the kotatsu, as if shooting up through a glass floor.
- !!!!! I see...I see two special girls...! OH GOD NEED HOSHIMITSU NOW.
- Delicious wonderful Natsume! More with her being madly in love with Sae!
- Hahah, Miyako riding to the US on a bike... I bet she could do it too.
- Bike-shachou! The Hidamari girls could start a bike transport service. It's be a land-based Aria! Bike-shachou would be their mascot, just like Aira-shachou.
- ...Yoshinoya is sounding like a teacher. Something MUST be wrong.
- Oh wow, they played it straight.
- Landlady is training with Hinako. :sd:
- They're never going to see that bike again. =P
- Bath time!

February 11th
- Ahahaha, she rode the bike to school... across the street.

This show is perfect as usual.

Special 2

June 6th
- JKASDD&*ASDT&*A(SDAS NAKED YUUNO IN A FLOATING UMBRELLA!
- Shaft Milk. o_O I.. uh... I don't want to know what that would taste like. Logically, it'd be pure LSD.
- Doyoyon~ Don't blame yourself Yunocchi! You saved Miyako's life!
- Sewing is not Yuno's forte.
- Woah, wait, what? What are these mysterious creatures speaking right now? Since when does this show have males other than Yuno's dad and the Principal?
- Yoshinoya has a way with words.
- More Sawashiro Miyuki~ She should voice every other girl in the class. Just use a different voice for each. She's got the range.
- Mami! She has a name.
- OH GOD! NATSUME!! That was... gah, <3 <3 <3
- Lots of nice Yoshinoya shots. And she gets to show off something she's genuinely good at!
- Poor teacher dude. :sd:
- Miyako is drawing erotic images of Yuno!
- What kind of danish can be divided into four and still be at all filling? =P
- Oh wow, I really want to know what kind of experience Hiro and Sae had in the art prep room... Maybe that was their "awakening"! Hell yeah Yoshinoya!
- Aww, eyecatch of Yuno in a cute white dress. Also, more problems for Yoshinoya. :sd:
- It was in her bed. The way she grabbed it with her foot was too cute.
- Bath! But hey, Yuno wasn't holding the sketchbook when she left Sae's room.
- Man, they're all about Yuno's body this ep. This is a trend that needs toc ontinue.

June 7th
- ...Haha Yuno has no idea what the rest of the class must be thinking.

Oh I am soooooo ready for ***. Gimmie now!

Hot announcer girl was hot. Nice to see her again

- !!!!! I see...I see two special girls...! OH GOD NEED HOSHIMITSU NOW.

Cleverly hiding important characters in a crowd so they won't stand out. No one will ever notice!

- Delicious wonderful Natsume! More with her being madly in love with Sae!

She just looked so happy. I'm so torn between Sae/Hiro and Sae/Natsume

Also above average amounts of naked Yuno this episode.

A reminder that Chika passed her exams. Go Chika!

I'd like the third season to dedicate at least one episode to a day in the life of Chika's school.

Anyway Hiro is a lefty!

I don't know why, but learning a character is a lefty can be interesting.

Toudou... Inoue Marina!

For some reason I was like "Her voice sounds familiar, but I can't place it". I guess this answers that question.

Hah, wow, now that is a creative angle. From below the kotatsu, as if shooting up through a glass floor.

When you word it that way, it makes the scene seem extra-perverted for some reason.

!!!!! I see...I see two special girls...! OH GOD NEED HOSHIMITSU NOW.

Yes, this tease is just not enough. I need to see their first appearance in the manga and their first active role in the anime.

Delicious wonderful Natsume! More with her being madly in love with Sae!

Natsume riding with Sae was one of the best moments.

Bike-shachou! The Hidamari girls could start a bike transport service. It's be a land-based Aria! Bike-shachou would be their mascot, just like Aira-shachou.

Let me guess, instead of a system of removing gloves, you'd get to go from no X to one X to 2 X.

...Yoshinoya is sounding like a teacher. Something MUST be wrong.

She's probably getting her serious quota out of the way.

Ahahaha, she rode the bike to school... across the street.

Yuno knows the proper way to use a bike.

This show is perfect as usual.

Which would explain why I watched the episode multiple times.

She just looked so happy. I'm so torn between Sae/Hiro and Sae/Natsume

There has to be some solution to solve everything, but it depends on two factors. Sae actually noticing and the other two being willing to share. I have no idea which is the greater challenge.
