I've been trying to figure out what guitar Haruhi plays. It looks like Yuki is playing a Gibson SG and the bassist is playing a Fender Precision bass. I'm not so sure about Haruhi, though. Is it some sort of Ibanez?

Okay I'm no expert by any means.. but isn't it a Les Paul?

There was an image, on Danbooru I think, that identified all the instruments being played. I cannot find it at the moment unfortunuately,
[edit]
I'm beginning to think I saw it on a blog, but still cannot find it.
Anyway, found the following on a Haruhi wiki:
Instruments used by ENOZ
Haruhi: Italia Mondial Classic 2Tone Sunburst (which became famous after being featured in J–rock movie Linda, Linda, Linda)
Yuki: Gibson SG Special Classic White (Limited Color) (More likely - Gibson LTD SG Classic in white, offered only in Japan.)
Mai: Fender Precision Bass (Japan)
Mizuki: Pearl Drum Set

Here it is. (http://www.italiaguitars.com/guitarDetail_outer.php?thisGuitarId=6) Very nice. I've never heard of one. I was reading that the real life musicians were rotoscoped to animate the performance. I wonder if this means the musicians were playing their own instruments and that's what got animated, or the animators wanted certain instruments and the musicians played them for the animators?

Heh, they could make a few quick bucks from completionist collector anime fans by putting out a TMoHS Limited edition of that.
And this all makes me wonder if a group of musically-inclined Haruhi fans haven't put together a tribute band. Talk about a hot con ticket. (There's cosplaying...and there's cosplaying.)

AAH! Con! At last year's Sakura-con, there was a Japanese band playing at the opening ceremony, and I couldn't figure out what guitar their lead guitarist was playing. Now I know. It was Haruhi's guitar, an Italia Mondial but in a red sparkle finish. This is it!

Italia Mondial II. You can buy one here (http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Italia-Mondial-II-SemiHollow-Electric-Guitar?sku=514444).
They're distributed in the US by ESP, if I recall correctly.

However it worked out, Haruhi's Mondial had to be deliberate. The parallel to Linda, Linda, Linda is far too blatant for it to be an accident of chance.

I'm sure you're right. I've seen the movie on the shelf at my local Kinokuniya. I guess I'm going to have to get it. I've been looking at the Italias at the musiciansfriend website you linked to. Right now it's not a question of "if" but "which". I've narrowed it down to three: Mondial Sportster (http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Italia-Mondial-Sportster-Electric-Guitar?sku=514443) (a variation of the one Haruhi plays), Maranello Speedster (http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Italia-Maranello-Speedster-Electric-Guitar?sku=514434) (love the shape and the stripes), and the Modena Classic (http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Italia-Modena-Classic-Electric-Guitar?sku=514438) (gotta have the green one if I go for it). I think a guitar with humbuckers would be a good complement to my single-coil Dano. At least that's how I'm justifying it.

If you're looking at all of those, I'd also look at an ESP Xtone (http://www.zzounds.com/item--ESPPC2V). Similar in features to all those Italias, but you get quality Seymour Duncan 'buckers. There's also a single cut-away (http://www.zzounds.com/item--ESPPC1V) version (also here (http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/ESP-PC1V-Paramount-with-Bigsby?sku=516695)), if that's more your speed.

And I did get it. I liked it quite a bit. After having seen it, I can see how much of that episode of Haruhi was lifted directly from the movie. Not just the guitar, but the new singer and guitarist scenario, the rain driving everyone into the theater just as they're about to play, and the scenes of rain pouring on the empty school yard as they're playing their set is all taken directly from the movie.
