"Kite Liberator" sequel coming!

According to this news blog post (http://www.animenation.net/blog/2008/09/04/kite-liberator-sequel-in-development/) at AnimeNation.

The first Kite Liberator didn't seem to be too warmly received, but I liked it a great deal, and I'm looking forward to its continuation. Yasuomi Umetsu is one of anime's true genius auteurs.

This is very exciting as I love Umetsu's work. However, I'm not going to be thinking of this as a "sequel" so much as it will hopefully be "the rest of it." Given where it left off in the first one. My other concern is how long it will be before we see it, since it mentions Umetsu is still just in the "writing stages." I expect to see that second episode of Urushihara's Lady Innocent before I see the second part of Kite Liberator at this point... :P

I don't really have issues with the ending of Kite Liberator (ambiguous/unresolved is usually okayfine by me), but I'll happily take more.

Actually, the first Liberator appeared to me to come together pretty smoothly and quickly. If Media Blasters is helping finance this one as well (unknown at this point, but likely I think), I don't know that there's any reason to expect excessive delays. The only Umetsu project I'm aware of that's entered seemingly permanent limbo is Kiss and Cry, and that may just be for lack of bankrolling.

It could be that they're going forward with a second one because the first Kite: Liberator DVD was a strong seller. MB did a good job with the packaging and the promotion. The problem is that many people who bought the first DVD were disappointed after watching it. I think I'll wait and see if the whole thing eventually comes out in a collection.

Yep, and I'm getting used to my tastes not exactly being in line with most. Kite Liberator and a certain manga I won't name (because even I'm getting tired of hearing myself play one-man cheerleading squad for it) should have been greeted with glad hosannas and been major buzz items for months. Ditto BCI's releases of a couple of thoroughly awesome old tokusatsu shows on DVD -- not anime or manga, but close enough. Instead, all pass with barely a whisper. And now russ869 begrudges me a single lonely exclamation point. :P

I just watched Kite Liberator and my problem was that it was too disjointed-don't know if a sequel is going to make any difference.

KL with gratuitous sex scenes? Hopefully it doesn't involve superfoods and rockhard alien monster daddies.. :P Seriously though, I won't be expecting too much from this sequel. I wasn't necessarily disappointed with KL content-wise and enjoyed it for what it was, standard b-grade fare.

Much as I enjoyed Kite: Liberator, I did find myself missing the sex. Somewhat to my surprise. I'd thought the sex scenes in Kite and Mezzo Forte were pretty hilariously jammed in, but they also helped push them over the top to exactly the right level of trashy.

Yeah, I wish Kite Liberator had real sex scenes too. Although, I kind of feel what Kite Liberator did have...maid groping fanservice, child abduction, other small bits of fanservice...was more erotic than the actual sex scenes in older Kite films just because it was so damn well animated. We've come a long way from the 90's, heh.

I've read that Umetsu doesn't want to do anymore sex scenes in his anime. Which is too bad as the man was SO DAMN GOOD at making smut. :) :nosebleed:
