Who is the baddest bad guy in anime?

I'll let you make your own definition of "bad guy." Of course women can be bad guys, too. Who is the baddest of the bad? It is some tough guy from a shonen anime? A devious manipulator from a shoujo anime? Are your favorite bad guys sympathetic? You can at least understand why they are the way they are? What do you think?

IMO, Light Yagami is the biggest ass hole I've seen in an anime. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but he did some sickening things that really pissed me off.

My favourite bad guy ever though...I can't think of one at the moment.

Count D from "Petshop of Horrors" - selling "pets" to people whom you know are gonna get burnt by them is nasty. Plus he gets a kick out of it. Its not a globe-spanning meglomaniac kind of evil - but just pure petty evil.

Here area a few I consider Very Bad Men:

Jinsaku Ajo of Key the Metal Idol because he killed Sakura. The most senseless and gut-wrenching death in anime.

Mr. Carpenter/Joker of R.O.D the TV. There's nothing more dangerous than someone who believes they are completely right.

Akio Ohtori of Revolutionary Girl Utena. The perfect manipulator.

I'm glad you chimed in on TSR, since I was going to nominate Gates for said disregard for the lives of others (especially his own subordinates), but I was also going to nominate Gauron for <here I decline to mention specifics in case anyone reading this hasn't seen Full Metal Panic yet, but for those of you who have, you know what I mean about total bad-assedness>.

If we're talking absolutely malicious, reprehensible, irredeemable scumbags, then you can't get much worse than the antagonists in Hell Girl.
And that woman who kidnapped the girl's dogs would be the worst of the bunch. I wouldn't consider her or any of the others a favourite though. not even in a 'one you love to hate' sense. They're just so utterly utterly evil.

As far as favourite villains go, I'd have to get back to you later on that one....

Collectively/as a family, the Zabis of Mobile Suit Gundam.

Single male, Johan in Monster is worse than Light. But Shishio Makoto in Rurouni Kenshin beats both.

I'm going to say Yakushiji Tenzen from Basilisk. He was very manipulative and was bad to the core.

Naraku from Inuyasha.

(Spoiler for a scene that takes place after the end of the Inuyasha TV series.)

The manner in which he killed Kagura earned him a special place in hell. He returned her heart and then injected his poisons into her body, causing her a great deal of physical pain before she finally died. The manner in which he killed her also prevented Sesshomaru from reviving her.

That was the 2nd most emotional scene Takahashi ever wrote (it doesn't top the ending of Maison Ikkoku).

I would also list Griffith from Berserk as one of the greatest big bads. It will be a glorious moment if he ever gets what's coming to him.

Let's see, Orochimaru (Naruto) is someone I would detest with his actions that put the Leaf Village in harms way all the time. Commissioner Saito (Kurau Phanton Memory) is another guy I detest because he is the one behind the chasing of Kurau and Christmas to the ends of the earth and upsetting the Rynax. Also, Aizen (Bleach) since he is the main reason why all this fighting happened in the Soul Society in order to save Rukia.

Originally, I thought about choosing Zagato from Magic Knight Rayearth who had kidnapped and imprisoned Princess Emeraude and was willing to let Cephiro go to hell until Hikaru, Umi and Fuu arrived from Tokyo to battle and eventually defeat him. However, as everyone knows, it turned out he loved Emeraude (and vice versa) and wanted to be with her, something that wasn't allowed since her constant prayers kept Cephiro stable, but he abducted her anyway. Kinda hard to call Zagato a true bad guy since he acted out of love.

IMO the baddest "guys" in the anime multiverse, are bugs. Think about it. Nausicaa, Blue Gender, Gunbuster 1 & 2, The Third, Starship Troopers... One more bad guy I would like to add to my list of baddest baddies is Tenzen of Basilisk. He is one of the characters that I despise the most. He is the one who was behind all of the fighting between the clans as he caused them to fight each other so that he can become the ruler of the Iga clan. The hatred between the Kouga and the Iga was more or less caused by him. And of course, he is the one that gets in the way between Gennosuke and Oboro and their relationship.

In terms of "evil" bad guys, I felt that (in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha) Precia Testarossa was a rather evil villain. I just think that her cruel treatment of Fate despite her loyalty was rather evil. I guess another bad guy I felt was really bad was (from Full Metal Panic! season 1) Gauron. The guy just didn't seem to want to die, and he was pretty "evil" to boot.

Yes Raoh, from Hokuto No Ken is one baddest bad guys of all time. From his bad-ass look, to his incredible , almost Vaderish presence on Koku-oh, Raoh remains my pick for baddest bad guy in anime... though Satan from Devilman runs a close second.

At the risk of being a little cliche, I have to say King Hamdo from Now and Then, Here and There. From the very start of that anime, you really get a sense of how insane, how evil, and how horrible of a human being this man truly is. Some of things he does in the series makes him out to be the worst possible person to ever lead a group of people, and a completely cold, heartless, truly evil human being. Yet something feels very real about him, like there are acually people in this world who could be just as bad as him, if they are given the chance. I think history is full of people that prove that.

Also I would say some of the villians from Shadow Star Narutaru are the "worst" bad guys in any anime. They do, and plan some horrible things. They are heartless, cold, evil and sadistic little children. From the Khmer Rouge wanna-be, to the girl who seems to take pleasure from killing a whole group of souldeirs, to their leader, who has planned some incredibly horrible things. To think that a few children are willing to do these things. I'd argue that the worst people in this anime, aren't even the kids with the dragon children. The bullies that rape Hiroko (Hiro) with a test tube, seem to take extreme pleasure from that, and do it for stupid reasons. I can't believe they could be so cruel. Of course not all them are eager to do it...

Anyway as for my "favorite" bad guys, I have way too many... For example I tend to like all the bad guys in Eureka Seven, like the The Council of the Sages (my profile picture), the Ageha Squad, Dewey Novak , Captain Jurgens, Dominic, and Anemone. Some of the bad guys in Black Lagoon are really cruel, yet somehow cool (bad play on words I know...sue me) like Hänsel and Gretel, or the Maid. Suitengu in Speed Grapher is a cool dude. Gendo (from NGE) is such a pimp, how can you hate the guy! He rocks.

Deffinitly a top three worst on my list.

But my number one will always be Darcia from Wolf's Rain. when he killed Toboe, Quient, the human couple, Blue, and everyone else, any lingering thoughts of how cool I thought he was quickly switched to thoughts of me wanting some one to kill the guy.
