First I apologize to something for jumping the gun on him. All right then this thread is dedicated to discussion of Mission-E. Note that Mission-E is a continuation of Code-E and thus certain things go without saying. In any case time to copy and paste the usual stuff below and then after that start a sub thread for episode 1.

Note
As usual, please try to follow these three easy forum courtesy habits when replying:
1) If you're the first person to post about an episode in any given week, please respond to the root post (this post) and indicate in the subject line which episode you're posting about.
2) If someone has already posted about an episode before you, please respond to that post (or a relevant reply to that post). Keep in the right subthread.
3) Don't use the blue "Post Reply" button because it causes your reply not to correctly inherit the subject line of the post you're replying to. Just click "Quote" to the post you want to reply to.

This first episode mainly deals with a lady named Katsura Miharu. Who is having Type-E related issues and just doesn't realize it yet. However soon she gets plenty of information thanks to Foundation trying to kidnap her and then being rescued (or in essence kidnapped in a sense:P) by two members of Oz, Chinami and Ma-chan who explain things to her.

Apparently Chinami is now part of an organization called Oz dedicated to helping out Type-E for the benefit of both them and society. Also part of this organization is a girl named Ma-chan (too tired to double check full name). Who apparently joined Oz because they asked first. Oh yes and Sonomi herself is also part of Oz. On a side note, she's also married and has children.

Considering the purpose of the episode was to mainly introduce us to the concepts of Oz and Foundation, the first episode was decent as far as first episodes go. Not exactly a winner yet, but it's enough for me to check out a bit more to see how things develop. Two to one, Foundation is related to the mean people from Code-E. Also it gives us an idea as to what things are like for the characters. Such as Sonomi's radically different look and how Chinami seems to be much calmer than she was in Code-E. Which can be interesting to compare over time.

Not sure what to think about the battle outfits. I have a love/hate relationship with. Actually right now the main thing I'll be wondering is the back story behind them. Regardless they sort of justify a time jump. Since I doubt stuff like that could have been made a week after the first series ended. Ok in some series yes, but the time jump adds a slight bit of realism. Or maybe not.

Katsura Miharu is rather nice looking and it would be nice if she's more than just a random episode character used to start the series. Ie I wouldn't mind seeing her appear on occasion. Still to avoid disappointment and such, I'll assume that's all she is until proven other wise.

Oh yes the opening is kind of generic, not a bad tune per se, but one I've heard enough times. The ending however is kind of nice and the ending animation is sort of cute and almost nostalgic. So I guess it works in the long run. All right this all I have to say since I'm tired, I'll possibly watch more later. Although I get the feeling by the time I wake up there will already be sub threads for episodes 2-4.

I was a bit confused for the first portion of ep. 1, because I was thinking that they were just totally rebooting things and that Miharu was Chinami... but once she and Ma-chan showed up, it made a bit more sense.

I suck at episode summaries, so I'll let the others who are better at it handle them, but overall (after watching 1-3, 4 is on deck to watch over lunch today) I'm pretty happy with the continuation of things- especially with how what characters from the original that I've seen have turned out after the intervening time. Chinami seems to be much more upbeat and happy overall, and much better in the control over her Type-E powers (though not completely though, as we see several times). Sonomi seems to have turned out fairly well and be happy with her life in spite of falling victim to the childhood friend curse, though other than knowing they exist we don't have any back-story on her husband and children. Keiko seems to fit in quite well as the school nurse at the High School the main cast attended in Code-E. It would appear she's at least in on the situation with Oz since she appears to cover for Ma-chan's leaving on missions, but it's kind of hard to tell. She's as genki and bubbly as ever.

Who honestly I'm the most happy with how they turned out is Saihashi- though little has been said about/involving her so far, it looks like she's been at least somewhat involved in the research involving the Type-Es, and at least from her actions (and attire) in ep. 3 I'm guessing she's had some kind of military experience in the intervening time. Irrelevant- she looks damn good... the meganeko scientist look suits her almost as well as the Miko she was in the original.

In what I've seen so far Kotaro has only been mentioned somewhat in passing (in a world of nearly all communication being done electronically, he has to send paper letters to Chinami because she gets too excited reading them and can't control her powers...), but it looks like he'll come more into things with ep. 4.

Ma-chan is an interesting addition to the cast, a bit of a look at what Chinami might have been like had her family not been so universally accepting and understanding of her problems. Hopefully she'll continue to come more out of her shell over the course of the series, as she's started to open up a little bit through the first few episodes (and it looks like one of the boys from her class is in the opening along with her dog...)

Their outfits are a bit over-the-top, that's for sure... but they're not nearly as much so as similar type combat outfits from many other series.

But probably what I'm happiest about is that Chinami and Sonomi remain friends and on good terms (even if Sonomi does have to keep correcting Chinami to not call her Sonomi-chan :P) through whatever happened involving Kotaro after the original series, and it's quite nice to see that Sonomi seems to have been able to move on and be happy in her own right.

What will really make the difference though with this show to me is whether they can successfully bring together everything from the first one that wasn't wrapped up as well as handling the issues Ma-chan brings, as well as the new 'villain' working for the Foundation.

Episode 1:

- Bwahahaha. Chinami is fucking glorious in that bodysuit. I can't wait to see how they explain the gap between season one and this season. :sd: Girl in blue must be new, though. Also, god, please don't let Kotarou play a major role. PLEASE.
- Huh, looking at the official site, Chinami is now 22. They jumped about 5-6[?] years. And oh god I can't wait to see Keiko and Sonomi.
- SONOMI! SONOMI! ... ...She cut her hair ;_; To exactly the style I like least. Damnit, she's not hot anymore.
- Action. Yes, lots of action, and it's hard to believe this is a sequel to Code-E. :sd: It's quite well done though.
- Kimizuka Maori! She does have a name =P And there's Yuma too.

Oh man, ED is awesome, and sexy. But it just rubs in the fact that Sonomi lost her beautiful long hair and looks bleh now. =(

This is definitely one of the more unique transitions I've seen from a series to its sequel. I definitely like it so far though.

I respectfully disagree... she's just a different kind of hot. Though she (still) can't hold a candle to Saihashi (Yuma).

Yeah, the action seems kind of odd for Code-E.... it's like someone crossed Code-E and Gunsmith Cats- and the two blended well.

Episode 2:

- After another successful mission, Chinami drops Maori off at home. Unfortunately her family situation is... awkward. Her parents and brother know she works at Oz, but it seems like the two sides have trouble talking to each other.
- KOMATSUNA-SENSEI! <3 Everyone loves her, as they should. I wonder if she's in OZ?
- Gandomecha!
- Maori has issues at school too. And issues going home from school, with Sonomi's butler picking her up too close to school and other students noticing and snickering about it. Oh poor Maori.
- This week's mission: infiltrate an all-girls school backed by Foundation. You know, Chinami struck me as looking older than the rest of her classmates in Code-E. Now she's trying to pull off high school again 5 years later? :sd:
- Bwahaha, Hachune Miku reference on the electronic chalkboard notice. :sd: Chinami and Maori continue their investigation of the school, but are unable to find proof of Foundation involvement. They're suspicious about the physical examination though. ...Those are always good for fanservice.
- The find out that strange physical exams are being held every month. Afterwards, a cute Chinami and Maori scene. Argh, goddamn, now I have yet another reason to hate Koutarou - he makes hot Chinami x Maori impossible. DIE DIE DIE.
- They hack into some Foundation files the next night and make the connection to Amazawa, the tech-demo town where shit went down in Code-E. Foundation is trying to create artificial Type-E's.
- The girls make sure to screw up those plans though. Oh Chinami, how do you look so sexy doing... everything? Ma-chan is no pushover either. Mmmm.
- And the dude talking to Evil McVillain at the end is... totally Kamiya Hiroshi which means he must be Adol. o_O

Good episode, the plot continues to take shape.

OK, that answers something I'd been trying to figure out for the last few episodes, whether that was indeed the male twin, just with very different, well, everything. His hair, face, and most of all, overall behavior are totally different... but it does jive with the scene from the beginning of ep. 3 (and the very end of 4).

I have not seen 3 or 4 yet and so can't comment there, but the voice totally fits, yeah. Granted it could just be seiyuu reuse, but ANN does list Adol as a Mission-E character so...? They've been wrong on occasion before, however.

Will be interesting to see just what the hell happened to him these past five years to change him so much. Just from the glimpse at the end of ep 2 it looks like a completely different person.

Thinking about it more.... I'm still not convinced that's actually him. I think they actually say the guy's name in 3 or 4, but my memory (despite having just watched 4 last night) isn't as clear as I'd like on it, so you'll probably catch it (since you'll probably be looking out for if...)... I really want to think that it's not him though. It's just hard to imagine that massive of a change... though if what I'm assuming happened is the case, then I suppose it's not entirely inconceivable- and it makes me loathe the 'big bad guy' all the more.

I have zero doubt that ANN is right though about Adol being in the show... it would be kind of hard to truly resolve the first series' issues without it...

Having seen up to episode 9...
Yes, the blonde twins are in this show as they are, just older like everyone else.

Of course, who's who is slowly revealed over the course of the series. Several times in the show they link Mission-e characters with characters from Code-e, back in the days, in very charming ways. I really like the one with Maori walking the dog and Chinami blowing up the air control tower...

So just as Chinami had her issues in the past, Maori has her issues in the present. Maori is making for a nice addition to the cast so far. In any case depending on how Mission-E handles what Code-E itself built up will help determine the effective of this rather interesting strategy the series has. Regardless so far this series is working for me. At least enough that I'll probably watch episode 03 a bit later on. Oh yeah one last thing, Chinami really seems to be enjoying herself in this series.

So in this episode we get a Type-E Bat. So apparently it's not just humans that can have it. Although I suspect the animal still has to be female. In any case the enemies were a bit tougher this time than they were in the first two episodes. So I guess perhaps this means adjustments will have to be made if they want to stand a chance.

Seems like this series is going for a build up strategy in terms of the story. A risky strategy, but if done right should pay off well. In any case the ending animation has them in black clothes instead of white for whatever reason. Also yes I'm too lazy to do a full fledged episode summary. I'll leave that to someone else.

So in this episode we get a better idea as to what the relationship between Chinami and Kotaro is like. Seems like some things have moved forward and other aspects still need progress. Oh yes and apparently the outfits are called Refray dresses.

In any case Maori has a rather bad dream that seems to be a mixture of flashback scenes and mental fears come to life. Poor girl needs some love. Come on Chinami, you can at least comfort Maori on the side. Just do it while Kotaro is away.

Oh yes there was also some crazed villain and such. Still the interesting part near the end involves a familiar blond girl. Also the preview is uh fun in some regards. Fake Kansai-ben dialect and Maori in a cute outfit! Four episodes down and just eight more to go.

I thought that how they handled things with Kotaro worked quite well... it's obvious that he and Chinami are in love, but at the same time the situation with the Foundation and Oz aren't such that they can really relax and let it go anywhere... that, and Chinami looks like she needs to work on her power control a bit more so she doesn't accidentally fry the poor guy if their relationship ever ends up progressing more. Kotaro, like all of the characters (with the possible exception of Keiko... but even she has something of a knowing wink under her bubbly dealings with Ma-chan) has matured nicely I'd say, and it was nice to see his calmly rebuffing Ma-chan's accusation that he was only interested in Chinami's powers and easily admitting that he was in love with her. He's still a goofy, nerdy sap- but he's matured, and handled both Ma-chan and Krieg (appropriately enough, German for 'war'...) I didn't read omo's spoilers, but it would wholly not surprise me if he was related to the twins from their use of the shot of an apparently comatose Mils at the very end- though that could have been in reference to either of the occupants of the car if the non-insane bad guy is indeed Adol.

Sonomi's conversation with Ma-chan was also rather refreshing, and solidly reinforced that what all had happened had only served to reinforce the bonds between she and Chinami and that (as I expected from the original) she was mature and strong enough to recognize and support the feelings of her two friends and to find her own happiness instead of dwelling on what would likely never be with Kotaro.

This episode did highlight one thing that they need to work on for the future- it's obvious that the Type-E agent girls need a way to be better equipped to deal with assaults from the Foundation at all times, and it's probably just not feasible to have a Refray Dress on at all times. I think Kotaro needs to make them something a bit more versatile- Refray Pantsu!

and Chinami looks like she needs to work on her power control a bit more so she doesn't accidentally fry the poor guy if their relationship ever ends up progressing more.

Suddenly the most blatant and obvious idea for a joke extra for the series is born. There is so much potential here depending on how severely they want Kotaro to be shocked by the power of love.

she was mature and strong enough to recognize and support the feelings of her two friends and to find her own happiness instead of dwelling on what would likely never be with Kotaro.

True and Sonomi is technically further along in her own relationship. Since after all she has children. Hmm it will be interesting to see what her children are like and such. Assuming the series bothers to show that of course.

Heh. There's not much 'technically' about it... she's married and has children, Chinami can't even think about doing anything with Kotaro without boiling water/milk/etc. As Sonomi said... she's not even sure they've officially confessed to each other (though they obviously are aware of the each other's feelings in general).

I imagine we'll meet Sonomi's family if it's appropriate to the plot... I am curious just who her husband is (or rather, whether it's someone we know from the first series or someone she met since then). Knowing how Oz came about would be interesting as well...

- Heh, they keep the basis of their OZ suit on at all times and just have to slip on various accessories. That's quite efficient, actually. Also, damnit they're both hot.

But a mission comes through and she has to abruptly break off the plans and head out, leaving the girl thinking she's been blown off again. Poor Maori. ;_; She could work on giving a better excuse though.
- It's off to Osaka to help a Type-E escape from Foundation, though Chinami uses it as an excuse to go sightseeing as well.
- This Akane person genuinely seems to want to escape Foundation, but she also seems like she's intentionally leading Maori and Chinami on a wild goose chase. Weird.
- Chinami blacks out a whole street and activates anti-terrorist shielding...
- ...while Maori catches up to Akane and gets tricked, drugged, and captured. Oops.

p.s. God DAMN this ED is still hot as hell. Watch it every time, sometimes twice. Sexy girls in nice black (initially white) one piece dresses and absolutely nothing else dancing for me. Oh god. The dress falling slowly off Maori's body at the end makes me despair at the lack of fanart for this show. ZETSUBOU SHITA!!

Ah yes Chinami just has to take advantage of a situation to have fun. Pretty Maid Warrior sounds like something I'd watch for at least an episode or two. Some of the characters in the changing room look familiar. Especially the one from Moetan. Finally Akane needs to be smacked for drugging my Maori.

Speaking of which I just noticed something about the two endings for the first time. Probably because I don't pay attention that well, but that's besides the point. Not only is the color of the dress changed, but the lyrics as well somewhat. It makes me wonder if perhaps it's actually a case of taking a full version and separating it into two parts. Although it would be awesome if there was actual a special bonus third part to the song in a full version. *Is tempted to watch both versions at the same time*

Did they? I thought that was just the "translators" getting their hands on official lyrics and revising extensively now that they don't have to decipher high pitched (but lovely!) Momoi Haruko engrish and ii/E puns purely by ear. I guess I should listen to the two back to back and see if the actual song changed.

Not only have I watched them back to back, I played them at the same time. I would not be surprised if the part of the translation for the "White" version needed to be fine tuned. However as a whole there are several instance where the lyrics are definitely different and can't be just a case of correction.

An example here. Take the part where they're dancing together just before you see Chinami and then Maori with her clothes falling off. In the white version you have "asa made odoritai" aka "I want to dance in the morning", but around the same comparable scene in the black version you have "yogoto no himegoto" aka "secrets every night". Even just listening to them, they sound different.

Hmm wait, morning and night. I guess this means that we consider the White one the morning version and the Black one the night version. Which would explain why they're different and what both are supposed to represent.

Naked would be awesome. Actually to be honest I have skimmed the later episode endings and found that the "white" version comes back. It seems like a case of half will be black and half will be white. It's just that it won't be as simple as odd and even or first half and second half. I'll let you find out for yourself which end up being white and which end up being black.

Actually the fact the black version came three episodes in a row is probably part of the reason I didn't notice the change in the lyrics at first. Simply because I had grown used to the black version by episode 5 and the only reason I noticed the change was a case of deciding to randomly watch the white version for the heck of it.

- Chinami finds out Maori is missing, and kinda freaks out. Sonomi sticks her on standby.
- Hah. So, like, when my phone is too close to my computer speakers, they make this really annoying noise. It's much worse when the phone actually rings (which is thankfully infrequently). But as soon as Chinami's phone rang in the show, my speakers made that noise. Or maybe I'm just a Type-E!
- Bwhaha. Conveniently, Chinami's dad is able to introduce her to a man named Sasata who knows all the back alleys and hiding places in Osaka. She meets him, and the first thing she blurts out is "Where's the most convenient place in Osaka to keep a captured woman?" XD Awesome.
- Akane is busy at work trying to corrupt Maori and make her think Oz is evil too. Whee. Ugly duckling metaphors. She also quite carelessly leaves Maori's needle art thingie lying around while she takes a call.
- Meanwhile Chinami and Adol have an emotional reunion... and then he tries to have her captured.
- Wait, I thought Maori couldn't use her powers in this room? Anyway it appears Akane didn't seriously plan to keep her captive anyway. She elaves the door unlocked, disappears, drugs the guards, and pretty much leaves Maori to stroll out of the place nearly unchallenged.
- And somehow Chinami found time to change into her suit with machineguns trained on her. Riiiight.
- "I'm here to save you!" ...she says while trapped under a net as Maori beats up the soldiers about to take her into custody. <3 Chinami.
- And a last minute rescue by Yuma, who looks great in the Type-E suit. Better than she normally looks in this series, which actually doesn't work for me. Then again none of them look better than their younger designs, except Chinami.

- Uninteresting villain whose name I guarantee you I will never bother to learn or remember does something uninteresting!
- Adol is angry and being left out of the loop by Foundation. Maori is questioning if she belongs in OZ, and if she can trust her comrades.
- And Mils seems to be a vegetable.
- Someone who hacked Foundation plans to sell the info to OZ, but Chinami flubs it and Foundation interferes, so the data is destroyed. Chinami really should be better at this sort of thing by now =P
- Maori's falling out with OZ is handled sort of awkwardly. The voice acting really isn't on the mark at all, or maybe it's just the timing. And her reason for getting mad is weird too. She's pissed that Chinami prioritized the safety of the hacker over retrieving the data. As she notes, the data may have helped OZ save a lot of Type-E's. But why's she so mad about Chinami saving a life? Sure he was just going to sell to the highest bidder, but did she really think Chinami would prioritize the data over him (even if she shoulda =P)? She seems to think they only saved him to keep OZ's image clean but the logic doesn't really hold up nor does it mesh well with her overall angst about being "the ugly duckling". The whole development is just really clunky.
- As she's angsting by a vending machine she accidentally Type-E'd, a re-blonded Adol comes by and gets chummy. Well, I suppose they both feel like the ugly ducklings of their respective organizations, so it's a reasonable development.
- And they run off into the night, giggling. Hooookay.

Having just finished this, I'll say that Mission-E is a prime example of how you can take a so-so anime and make a truly awesome sequel. The action scenes are cool and the ED is one of the sexiest that I have seen. I like how Chinami and Kotaro are less annoying now and are now more mature.
Mao has to be one of the all-time sexiest female leads in any anime. DAMNIT? Why isn't there any fanart of her? The show sadly does not have enough of Yuma who seems to have been sidelined this season.

And while the biggest failing of the 1st season was the romance, over here in Mission-E, it also is one of the negatives (though it's not as bad as the 1st season). The writers seem to eager to make sure that the female characters have men in their lives. Mercifully, the nausea-inducing Chinami x Kotaro romance is kept to the background. While I don't dislike Mao's love interest, I felt that the romance was a little forced and sudden. I'd rather she either stay single or discover the joys of yuri.

Strange, I expected a direct continuation from the 'running off into the night giggling' of last episode, but it appears to be at least the next day. Ma-chan is still angsting about what happened at Oz, and Chinami's showing up at school looking for her doesn't help matters- so she hops into Adol's convertible when he shows up. Yeaaaah.

Actually, their 'date' for the most part is rather amusing- they've both got their issues, but at the same time they finally get the chance to let them go for a bit and just enjoy being otherwise normal people. Granted I'm not buying that at least Adol wouldn't have recognized Maori- she wasn't wearing a Refray Dress when he attempted to kidnap her out at the Oz farm before when Krieg attacked them. Anyway.

Their date goes pretty well until the very end, when the elevator they're riding down from an observation tower in goes haywire and Ma-chan has to use her Type-E power to activate the brakes and save them- and Adol realizes who she is and thus she him, and he leaves her with a message to take back to Chinami that he will make her pay for her sins. Thus Oz and Chinami know why he has joined the Foundation- though Chinami doesn't want to have to fight him. Maori returns to Oz with Chinami and Yuma.

Can't say I really buy a romantic angle between the HS Maori and the what, probably at least 30-year-old? Adol, but they are similarly troubled characters. Hopefully the show won't get too stupid with them.

I have to admit the interaction between Adol and Maori was better than I expected it to. If nothing else Maori had a nice outfit on in the episode. Although I have to wonder about Chinami's sin. If turns out to be a case of "I want revenge because you didn't part water" or crap like that I'll want Adol slapped. I hate it when characters expect too much from people because it's so selfish of them.

So apparently Adol feels it's because Chinami's powers went berserk that his sister got injured. I should have figured it would involve that. Still because of that he considers Chinami and by default Maori to be enemies because of their powers.

We get some interaction between Chinami and Maori. I have to love the flashback scene where Chinami met a younger Maori and got surprised by her dog. Then you get talk about who was really to blame for the damage caused to the area. Speaking of the interaction, having the dresses half-on was kind of nice to look at it.

Oh yeah Kotaro has made a new model of the refray dress. Mainly for the sake of Maori. He also gives an "It's how the power is used" speech and comments on things like possible healing purposes. Foreshadowing or just him being idealistic? You decide.
