Deunan in Appleseed can't cook either. Neither can Kaoru in Rurouni Kenshin TV.

So which other anime females are dud cooks, & which guys are dab hands at it?

Very first thing that came to mind were Akane and Ranma... she shows massive progress through the show by eventually being able to successfully make ramen without poisoning the eater, whereas Ranma (in either form) cooks fairly well (though of course pales in comparison to Kasumi).

Lum's cooking in UY always seemed to have disastrous results, but that was usually because she was cooking for humans and not other Oni.

Speaking of Gainax, Nadia's cooking was always a fair bit off from what I remember as well.

Akito Tenkawa from Nadesico can cook. But I don't think we've ever seen Yurika Misumaru cook. And maybe that's for the best.

Sanji from One Piece. His whole shtick is that he's the official cook of the Strawhat Pirates. He's also aiming to be the greatest chef out there.

Keyne from Photon. Her food should be considered a toxic waste hazard. :sweat: While I feel sorry that Photon went without food for so long, he's better off not eating those... monstrosities that Keyne cooks up.

Tatsukichi from Super GALS!... but that's because his family have been ramen chefs for generations.

Sakura's father in Cardcaptor Sakura, Fujitaka Kinomoto is good at cooking, and I think it was said her mother Nadeshiko either couldn't or was average. IIRC, a lot of guys in CCS can cook - Touya, Syaoran, and Eriol at least.

Also, there is Kyohei in Burst Angel who can cook. Since the gals from that series were always eating junk food when they had no cook around is a good indication that they can't cook.

I will admit that the "girl who cooks horribly" comedy trope is so overdone and cliched that it just bores me anymore.

(I do, however, like the variation on the theme from Nadia - Grandis's food tastes delicious, it just looks vomitous.)

Hmm. Can't remember if any of the females were horrible cooks, but just about every named male character in Cooking Master Boy, starting with Liu Mao Hsing... ^_^

Just finished watching the first season of Minami-ke with my anime club last night and I don't think it was mentioned:

Guy who can cook: Hosaka (funniest character in the series, in my opinion)
Girl who can't cook: Kana Minami

In one of the OAVs, Akane and Ranma/"Ranko" compete to see who is the better cook, with Ranma's mother judging. Ranma wins, largely because of his superior knife skills.

Kasumi's a good cook, but Ukyo is the best okonomiyaki maker. :)

One of the worst female cooks is Lime from Saber Marionette J.
