Nearly 2 years since the last movie (it was originally supposed to be out sometime this year). They certainly are taking their sweet-ass time for something that's mostly just a re-animated clip show...

The impression I get is that 2.0 will have more new footage than 1.0 had.

Yeah, there's supposedly a new female character, but I wouldn't expect any new scenes to take up more than a half hour or so of the movie. Certainly nothing that should take 2 years to plan out, but I suppose I'd rather they not rush things.

Interesting. I just recently ordered the R3HK 1.01 w/ English subs. Have something big to look forward to next year. Hopefully 3.0 and Final will be soon after.

Perhaps why its taken so long is:
a) Anno's Studio Khara was cooperating on Miyazaki's Ponyo movie.
b) a bunch of new footage and reworking it with old to make sense (but has Eva ever made sense? :P)

I've been excited about the Eva movies, still haven't seen the new one though.. waiting on an R1 release. I'm *really* excited about the 2nd movie because Asuka finally makes the scene and she's always been my favorite Eva character(GASP SHOCK AWE, I know:P).

Anyway it just hit me, that maybe the reason an R1 license hasn't been made yet are the companies want some sort of package deal for all the movies, but perhaps Anno's company is trying to sell them individually? Which wouldn't make sense... but if they're looking at it as this one is out so it's all you can have.
Of course it's probably just an astronomical licensing cost during a time where the R1 industry is having a bit of trouble. Even though Eva is huge, that doesn't mean it could recoup it's cost and make profit if the cost is too high. Ah, I don't mean to turn this in to a when will the movies be released in R1 thread, I just had that group license thought.

Back to the 2nd movie, I wonder what the new character will offer to the series? Is she going to be spunky like Asuka? Or another morose character such as Rei? Could she be another Rei or Kaworu? With Eva every character had some sort of archetype that delved in to what humans were, how they acted and reacted to certain things. I felt most were well covered with the initial characters, so I wonder what this new girl will do.

Either that, or they're pushing the R1 companies for a widespread theatrical release.

But back on topic. Yay! I've been waiting for news on the next movie. More EVA is a very good thing.

Sigh. It's hard for me to be excited about the second movie, when there's been nary a mention (actually none at all) of an eventual R1 release for 1.0. So depressing for such a high profile property.

Poster (originally used for 1.0) http://www.evangelion.co.jp/

The girl in bottom right is new (Asuka is top RH). Could be the new girl, especially as care has been taken to hide her face apart from a slight angle. The girl's ascent towards the established kids, & poise says she is unfamiliar as well.

Hikari still looks like a young Misato!

Could be holding up UK & Australian releases as well, since they will probably be R1 clones.

There is an official English subtitled release, R3HK, which has been mentioned in the R2J/R3 forum.

Germany is getting its 1.0, with a German dub, later this month. And in a cool looking steelbook. Sprechen zie Deutsch?

Could be a relation. In Eva weird relationships do happen. :)

I'd like to avoid going the R3HK route, but I'd also like to watch the damn thing before this decade is done. Ah, I don't think my 2 years of German taken during high school over 10 years ago would be good enough for me to enjoy the German dub, though the steelbook does sound rather cool.

Well they certainly took their time with the making the 2nd movie and milking out the first one. I hope that there will more additions in terms of animation scenes, story in this than the previous one.

Speaking of the R3 release w/sub, i can't seem to find it on Yesasia  any other alternatives ?

Well I'm so glad this is finally getting out. At least we know they didn't rush it :sdsmiley: The new girl looks really cute . It's horrible, it's a sin, it's a damn sin, that I haven't even seen Eva 1.0 yet. Of course that's because I'm waiting for the R1 release. Sad that it's not even licensed yet :( . This is something that MUST come over to R1 land. If Germany got it, it can't cost that much for the license can it? I pray ADV will get it, or Manga Ent, or even Funimation. Anyone but Bandai. Becuase I doubt they would use the original cast while it's clear Manga and Funimation would at least attempt to use the Original Cast, from their past stuff. Then again hearing Michelle Ruff as Rei, and JYB or Yuri Lowenthal as Shinji (because I bet Bandai would throw this to an L.A. studio) would be interesting. Interesting, but I still don't want it to happen :P .

Well I'm hoping ADV's new parnter gave them a ton of money, and they already working on licensing this.

I'd be surprised if anyone other than a multi-billion dollar Hollywood studio secured the rights to the new Evangelion films. I get the feeling, like some others here, that these new films are just priced out of the reach of companies like Funimation and even Manga/Anchor Bay.

Why would the pirce them so high, that it would be impossible to licensed them? They loose money that way. I can't understand that... Manga could come up with the cash for this I think (more like I hope). I doubt any hollywood studio would want this. It would not make them anything really. Unless they want to try and feed it to the general public with giant add campaigns and a theoretical release. That would own, because then it would make anime and NGE it;s self, "more famouse" haha :) .

I was kind of hoping that they would use the girl in the Maiden of Steel(?) game.

Mana in Kotetsu no Steel

The new girl, given she has longer (though not black) hair & glasses resembles the "guest" girl in Sega's 2nd Impression game.

ArcticMech, try the German dub trailer linked to in the R2E thread. Dialogue is fairly easy to follow, & the voice acting is good.

German-dubbed Asuka will be interesting when they get their 2.0 in....2010(?)
