Since there doesn't appear to be a thread for this yet and I at least hope I'm not the only one who's watching this, I figure I'll go ahead and make a thread for it.

Watching the promo for this left me rather curious about it since it looked like my kind of complete insanity... and actually watching the first episode locked that in a being 100% correct.

We start off in the middle of a magical spell/summoning by a boy (Takuto, voiced by Koshimizu Ami- a name I didn't at first recognize but I should given the long list of roles she's played that I'm familiar with), which then appears to go awry and result in Takuto waking up to find a naked girl lying on top of him.

Flash back to several hours earlier, Takuto is leaving school (an apparently normal, Earth school) when several of his friends invite him out to Karaoke. They're all introduced by status/info screen ala Pani Poni Dash, with rather amusing comments about them. They're interrupted though by the arrival of Takuto's extremely shy and apparently mute cousin Suzuho who communicates by writing on a sketchpad. The two head off, duck into an alley, and open a magical portal to the Magical Academy. Upon arriving, it appears most of the school is deathly afraid of Suzuho, calling her the Midnight Blue Vampire or the likes. A suave teacher and a Inumimi maid however arrive to offer to entertain Suzuho while Takuto takes his summoning exam.

After a bit of explanation by the teacher (sorry, I'm blanking on names), we get back to where we started with the summoning. Takuto has apparently summoned a girl- who is, well, highly affectionate toward him (censorship handled absolutely hilariously via clay figures :P). This doesn't sit well with Suzuho at all- but it seems the girl doesn't want Takuto taken away, and lets loose with a massive amount of magical power- leading to a chase through the school, lots of destruction, and the use of a DBZ scouter and a barely disguised OVER 9000 joke.

Eventually Suzuho gets pissed off enough and removes the ribbon on the end of her hair. Her hair changes from brown to blue, and she ceases to be mute and is instead very brash and violent- and apparently her mere presence drains all the magic from a rather large area around her. She summons her weapon (I swear that thing is parodying elements from Silent Mobius, Nanoha, and even Genesis Survivor Gaiarth at points...) and goes massive overkill on trying to retrieve Takuto. She eventually succeeds in retrieving him- but he goes over to comfort the crying summoned girl, and in the process names her Tanarot (the name of a cat he once took in)- which completes the summoning and binds her to him.

As you'd halfway expect, she ends up staying with him-to be joined very shortly by Suzuho who isn't about to leave the two of them alone.

There were so many references and otaku in-jokes in this show that I just gave up on even trying to keep track of them after the first few minutes. It's absurd, fast-paced and shamelessly unoriginal- but it was a heck of a lot of fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to watching more.

And I also hope someone else takes over doing summaries of it... that or I have to learn to summarize much better.

I've seen a lot of comments groaning about the series, but it looks like something I'd totally dig. Just mindless fun with cute characters. I watched the first part of episode one and liked it. I may watch more in the future and actually follow this one since it seems to be hated by a lot of anime fans.. for some reason... :sd: So I'm not sure if it'd be released in R1, though it seems like a zany show that would appeal to R1 fans.

I just don't get the hate that's being thrown at it.

Well there's twenty two minutes of my life I won't be getting back. I had a very strong suspicion I wouldn't like this, but I decided to watch it anyway. I cracked a smile two or three times, but I was mostly either bored or annoyed. I won't be coming back for more.

Bizzare... I thought I'd posted in this last night, hmm.

Anyhow, this was great fun as soon as I slipped into the proper Disgaea mindset, lots and lots of laughing followed pretty much everything in the show, not the least of which was the Scouter joke. Even if I weren't having such fun with it, I'd be in it all the way for the mountain of memes that seem to want to make their way into the show. And the claymation. Yes.

Episode 1:

- This is a bit spastic, but suddenly, notepad communication moe!!
- Catgirl maid! This show actually has some pretty decent seiyuu talent.
- Bleh the method used to "censor" naked chick is incredibly annoying.
- And the school gets damn near demolished.

Highlights were nekomimi maid Eneus and pissed off Suzuho. But the show has such a strange feel to it that I don't know what to think. The designs range from normal to whatthefuck and the pacing was pretty frantic. It wasn't bad enough to drop outright, nor good enough to say I'll definitely continue. I'm putting it in that "I'll watch more if I have time" limbo. Which, in this otherwise ridiculously good season, means the chances I'll see more are slim... but I'll try to do so if somehow I find some downtime.

Episode 2:

Starts with Takuro talking Tanarotte shopping. And... well, I didn't actually finish it. I think I'm gonna drop the show, even if it does have some cute parts. One thing that annoys me a lot is the live-action inserts and how Tanarotte turns all strange looking (like bad claymation or something) when there's a suggestive scene like the changing room stuff. Really, really annoying. I skimmed the rest of the ep but didn't see anything that really grabbed me.

Well, it's good to knock some shows off my currently watching list. Wanted to at least make sure I gave this a second ep before doing so. It's cute but, eh, I dunno. It's not clicking.

I actually watched the second episode today myself, unlike something I actually enjoyed it. I thought it was better then the first episode. I actually like the strange claymation used to replace traditional fanservice, I find it funny. There's still a bunch of fan service in this episode with animal mimi(ears) moe that was cute and sexy.

So I'm still enjoying it.

So I was just looking up some stuff on this, and apparently the TV version is edited. Hence the claymation hiding of ero stuff. But the DVD release has the ero scenes drawn out.

You can see the comparison shots here:

Is it so wrong that if someone actually manages to acquire the license for it, I'd want them to include the claymation bits as an extra at least? Still, looks like I'll be keeping an eye out for dvd releases :o

I don't have much to say about this one, but god, the shower scene, I knew it was a trap, but man did they sell it hard. And don't fake moe!

I'm having fun with the show as well, but that might just be keeping its parody/meme nature in mind for full appreciation.

Yeah, it was pretty hard to not figure out that they were setting us up with the shower scene... but I still laughed pretty hard when they revealed it. The fake glasses thing was good too, though Tanarotte tossing the bone before they could use Suzuho's magic-draining power had me laughing pretty hard too (as did when Suzuho came to her senses). The Angel & Demon look like they'll be fun additions to the cast though.

And was I just imagining things, or was the giant robot that the Angel summoned called Hentaigar?!?

Ep. 3 and 4 rapid-fire this time. Episode 3 deals with the main trio (accompanied by the angel for healing support... and I seriously have to wonder which of the two is more sadistic, the angel or the demon...) going through the school's magical item storage (which is essentially like an RPG dungeon) and clearing it out- i.e., beating up all the magical items that have taken on spirit forms. The best part of this is the massive army of miniature Eneuses that the teacher made to collect the defeated items... they're just stupidly cute.

We get lots of Tanarotte and Suzu fighting- though once the angel suggests the compete to see who can defeat the most items, you end up with items running scared and lots of violence they can't show on the screen. It seems Tanarotte has 'infinite health' and doesn't get tired out- but some 'regeneration' from the angel helps Suzu out (or not :P). Of course, Takuto gets kidnapped and taken to the lair of the Demon Lord- who is the long, green-haired-with-horns girl from the opening. She's... not very demon-lord like, but is instead very happy and nice and sweet- though bent on facing the 'heroes' that have invaded her lair. Since she's a proper Demon Lord (apparently learning how to be so from... a Famicom magazine?), she's taken the proper cowardly approach and kidnapped the weakest party member- Takuto the mage. :P

Tanarotte and Suzu arrive to rescue Takuto, but fall for the traps Falce (the Demon Lord) has laid- and the angel's attack powers have been sealed off. When Tanarotte breaks free, Falce controls Takuto with magic to attack Tanarotte, who cannot fight against him- but this falls to Suzu'd magic-draining abilities, and an enraged Tanarotte smashes Falce with the cat-paw attack gloves the teacher gave her. We learn that she was the last item (a magical staff- the one you see Takuto using in the opening) her creator made- and that he had never named her or given her a purpose, so she was trying to make her own as the Demon Lord and essentially wanted to be defeated.

Of course, this show being what it is, the teacher fixes her up and mails her in a box (in human form, not staff form) to Takuto to use- adding yet another to his harem.... though she's quite willing to wait her turn behind the other two. :P

This show continues to be silly and absurd and wrong- but it's also just loads of fun at the same time.

The pre-opening of this episode was just.... yeah, weird.

And for ep. 4, we're finally back in the Human World for an episode- with Tanarotte and Suzu transferring to Takuto's class. As expected, the super-genki girl and the mute, shy meganeko go over very well with the other guys in the class- though Tanarotte's choice of seat (on Takuto's lap....) doesn't go over very well at all with either Suzu or Futaba (the girl from the beginning of the first episode). Falce is along as well, though transformed into Takuto's pen- ANN lists her as "Falce the Variablewand", and she definitely seems to live up to that name. Tanarotte of course makes things worse with what she says, and poor Suzu is being mobbed too.

After school, they group of 5 (Tana, the three girls, and the guy from the beginning of ep. 1 who always calls Futaba 'sis') run into Eitarou (the teacher) on their way to have a walcoming party as well as seeing the angel and demon. Eitarou has taken to calling Takuto 'Harem'- and understandably so. It seems there's a smuggling ring between the demon and human world- and he wants their help. Of course, they almost immediately run into the human side of it, and given chase (after a melodramatic scene by Eitarou, who is having far too much fun). After cornering the two shady guys, a small demon appears and summons a massive robot that starts destroying the city. Eitarou summons.... the giant Eneus maid-robot he created, a perfect replica of Eneus right down the shade of its underwear. Note: I'm not even going to try and list all the Giant Robo riffs he and this episode in general makes.

The two humans take Futaba hostage, and Takuto gives chase- or tries to, as Falce transforms into a wand that he can't seem to ride properly (OK, I'd worry about how ecchi that came off sounding, but it's not like it would be that far from accurate either...). Eventually Tanarotte catches up with them and beats up the bad guys, and Eitarou gets the demon to surrender by threatening to burn.... a first-run limited edition manga with figure. It seems she's an otaku demon- we get a bunch of pontificating about how the angel and demon worlds are essentially boring as hell because they live forever, and they're jealous of the variety and creativity of the humans, and the smuggling ring was smuggling Gachapon of all things to the demon world.

Takuto has to erase Futaba's memory of the whole thing, and the welcoming party for Suzu and Tana goes on as planned. Or not- as it's at Takuto's place, and Falce is there in an apron and not much else (and calling Takuto 'Master'). Apparently Falce doesn't have a very good handle on human world cooking. She apparently also has a 'wardrobe malfunction', as we get the clay figure of her for a few seconds.

The next-episode preview ... confused me for a second, since both this show and Soul Eater have a Professor Stein....

This show is five hours of my life wasted that I will never get back. While some of the ecchi humor is amazing and any scene featuring the dog girl was okay, much of the humor is hit-and-miss and the character growth is minimal. And some of the scenes involving ugly muscle guys that seemed inspired by similar scenes from Inukami is going to give me nightmares.

Not recommended at all.

You were expecting character growth out of this? o_O And kept watching while clearly not liking it?

I was thoroughly entertained by it from start to finish, but like I said way back, it really needs to be taken in with a Disgaea mindset(with a healthy dose of Excel/Bo-bo-bo), and not any sort of Serious Business. Once introduced, I thought the running hard gay jokes/scenes were one of the highlights of the show, as wrong as they were it only helped make it funnier. There was also much fun to be had in trying to figure out all the stuff they were parodying/memes they were embracing.

Yeah me too, I actually had a lot of fun with this series.. I liked the characters and how they "played" together. But to each his own ya know.
