On Kurumada's blog (http://www.kurumadapro.jp/kinkyou2008b.html), he has recently posted that he's writing the theme song to a new anime based on one of his creations... He doesn't say what it is, but from the lyrics it's generally assumed to be an adaptation of Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, drawn by Shiori Teshirogi (a former assistant to Aria's Kozue Amano). Kurumada says that more info will be revealed in a few days.
Someone on GameFAQs posted a rough translation of what the lyrics shown on the blog picture says:
Flower chain [The title of the song]
"Memories of distant days
If you open that box slowly you will find an old picture
You will see that your childhood friend was always there
That smile has not changed
And the dreams you drew together didn't either, canvas of your hearts
The colors have not yet passed away
In my hand and your hand we hold the warmth of the days that have passed
Why people always live with
both love and hate
Joy and sadness are interlacing in a single thread
The eternal bind of youth
Flower chain"
The whole "canvas of your hearts" part kind of gives it away...
Dragon Shiryu did bring up a rumor a few months back that XEBEC might do a Lost Canvas anime, so this might be true in the end. And it is great to see more Kurumada anime, even if he only did the basic storyline for this version (he's doing his own colorized version of the story with Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, albeit VERY slwoly).

More Saint Seiya is always welcomed, but for fan's sake bring back at least Tohru Furuya as Pegasus Seiya.

Lost Canvas takes place in the 1700s and is about the last War between Athena and Hades, so no Seiya and gang except for Libra Dohko and Aries Shion, who might keep their old voices, so I doubt we'll see Furuya coming back as Seiya.
In Seiya's place is Pegasus Tenma, who probably wouldn't fit with Furuya's voice. It would be cool if Furuya was used for a cameo or even as the narrator (to give it that homage feel, much like how he's Gundam 00's narrator... not to mention that he's great as a narrator).

There are images of the auditions for the OP and ED. It is about 99% sure that it's Lost Canvas :P
First, the title of the lyrics. In Lost Canvas, Sasha gives a flower chain to Tenma. It talks about the childhood friend, who is, of course, Aaron/Alone. And it talks about a canvas :P
Remember that old leaked picture which showed Libra Dohko? It could have been from a pilot. Here's that pic (thanks to Darkneslightnes from gamefaqs for reposting it):

Thanks for the info :) i never read any of the SS mangas so i am not aware the events and time line. Though i did see a scan from Lost Canvas once i thought that the characters were Seiya and gang with a different art style
Well if no Seiya then agreed about Tohru being the narrator. I wonder who will be the new cast for Lost Canvas ? After all, the all star cast of Saint Seiya was one of the factors that drew me to the show in the first place :bowsmiley:

In a sense, Lost Canvas differs from Saint Seiya since it doesn't have a main party. There's no dragon, cygnus, phoenix or andromeda saint in there. Tenma does have company sometimes, but the fellow bronze saint is the Unicorn (which was Jabu in Saint Seiya, who only played a small role), and a new, female silver saint. The manga alternates between Tenma, and one or two of the gold saints constantly.

Saint Seiya is one of those series I've always wanted to see more of. Damn you Toei.

Well maybe ADV will be kind enough to license/bring over the rest, not that i am expecting them to do so but you never know.

Well, with ADV soliciting a re-release of the first thinpak and DiC/Cookie Jar's website not mentioning Knights of the Zodiac anywhere at all, maybe ADV actually has the license to the show itself finally, instead of a sub-license, and will do the rest. But this is just a maybe.

From ANN:
The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa prequel to get DVD release next spring
This year's 53rd issue of Akita Shoten's Weekly Shonen Champion magazine will announce on Thursday that Masami Kurumada and Shiori Teshirogi's Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa manga has an original video anime version green-lit for next spring. The mythical action manga's story is set in the middle of the 18th century, 243 years before the first Saint Seiya storyline. Artist Teshirogi focuses The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa on the friendship of Tenma and Alone — the previous incarnations of the characters Pegasus Seiya and Hades who would become mortal enemies in the original Saint Seiya. The manga and the upcoming anime also includes Sasha, the earlier incarnation of Athena.
Kurumada drew the original Saint Seiya manga from 1986 to 1990, and Teshirogi has been drawing the The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa prequel manga since 2006. 11 volumes of the prequel have been compiled and published so far. The Lost Canvas - Meiō Shinwa anime will be the 10th anime project of the long-running Saint Seiya franchise.

So i guess it is going to be 1 DVD ? or perhaps they are referring to the 1st volume of the OVA ?

I think it's the first volume. There's no way Lost Canvas can be covered in just 1 volume, when it currently has more than 100 chapters.
Tokyo Movie Shinsha (TMS) will be responsible for the adaptation.
Here are two pics:

Thanks for the pics. Any info regarding the seiyuu cast ? Not that i am expecting Tohru Furaya to return for Tenma's role or so but i am curious and hope that they'll use veteran cast for the show.

Well, the only "returning" characters from the original would be Aries Shion and Libra Dohko, so I'd be happy if they returned from doing the Hades OVAs.

I read that the seiyuus will be revealed in the upcoming chapter. So, it's a matter of just a few days.
And yes, most characters are new ones, since this takes place 243 years before Saint Seiya. Some are previous reincarnations, and look physically identical though.
But as for the main cast, which is the one most people are fond of, well, Dragon, Cygnus, Andromeda and Phoenix do not appear at all in this story.
It's mostly Tenma, and the gold saints. Tenma's company usually consists of Yato (previous Unicorn bronze saint, whom was Jabu in the original), and Yuzuriha, a new female silver saint.

I just finished watching the first two episodes of this, and it's a great adaptation so far. The story is moving at a great pace, animation is good, adaptation feels consistent and the artwork is also great so far. I don't even mind the Naruto-type character design! Can't wait to see more, and I have not said that for a Saint Seiya adaptation since Tenkai-hen Overture!
