I've been playing the game and it has been really good so far, should make for a decent to good anime, also A-1 studios are a studio on the rise... but being a subsidiary of Sony's anime production firm Aniplex it was bound to happen.

I'm knee-deep in the game right now and loving it. Here's hoping the anime does it justice, though the game is gorgeous so its going to be tough act to follow. A-1 Pictures is animating it though, so its in good hands. Hopefully it will get a solid budget and the love and care Kannagi and Birdy received.

AWWWWW YEAH! Been waiting for that announcement for a few weeks now.

I played VC all day yesterday and it should be very easy for A-1 to get a great story out of it. If they can keep the same seiyuus in the anime that they had in the game it's gonna be made of so many shades of awesome it's gonna be near impossible to top it.

Like has already been said A-1 is a studio on the rise. Birdy had its faults visually at times. Kannagi is faring better. Not following Kuroshitsuji but from what I've seen it's looking good. They still have Birdy 2nd season to get even better and then it's Valkyria Chronicles. I think chances are high that it'll be looking pretty sweet considering how fast A-1 has been progressing quality-wise.

I also can't wait to hear about the rest of the details mainly about who's gonna be singing the opening.

While I'm bummed about there being no more Oofuri (yet), this seems like an interesting enough substitution. A-1 is really becoming a studio I'm looking out for, since they don't seem to be quite as partisan as KyoAni. (I know everything they've done so far has been aimed at guys too, but the crossover appeal is a lot wider)

Really all they have to do is take the basic premise and setting and do whatever they want to with it. Nothing I've seen from A-1 has lead me to believe they're going to drop the ball just because it's based on a game license. Of course nothing points to their doing an amazing job either, but I've found over the years that being an optimist is much more fulfilling as a fan. :)

Also, definitely second vespa's sentiments about Sakimoto. I love that man's work.

I know part of that is because I never played the games of course... but I haven't experienced the original material on pretty much any show I see so I don't know that it's it.

The thing about Persona ~Trinity Soul~ is that it was, by my understanding, only vaguely related to the games. It was another case of taking a game and making a series that had almost nothing to do with the source material. It was just a crap series (from what I've heard as I never had any desire to see it in the first place).

If A-1 sticks to the game, they have a pretty good story to work with along with a good cast. Between the setting and the story, its very unlike most RPGs. It's a vaguely 1930s Eurpean setting with a war story. The other big advantage is that its a tactical RPGs in which the battles are plot-significant, unlike most RPGs in which the story has to be designed in order to send the player to various dungeons which doesn't translate into non-game material quite so easily.

In short, the game is closer to Utawarerumono than Tales of the Abyss, so I think it has a better chance of working for you than typical RPG adaptations. Assuming its a good adaptation, of course. Otherwise, its just a crap series and the source material has little to do with it. Or they could decide not to do a direct adaptation and make it some other story that takes place in the same world essentially making the above irrelevant, though the art on the site seems to be pulled directly from the game, so it seems they are going for a direct adaptation at this point.

Well it's actually based on Valkyria Chronicles whereas Persona had nothing to do with the games in terms of characters.

The reason why it was panned is because it has nothing to do with the game besides just in general and that there is one cameo.

The show itself, if you don't know a thing about Personal 3, isn't terrible. Far better than the average video game adaptation I would even say. But if you can't appease the game fan base you won't get very far and people just wouldn't even watch it in the first place.

But personally I'm one of those rare people who actually enjoyed the Sakura Taisen TV series despite also being a big fan of the games, so my opinion probably doesn't count. That said, if they did something like that for Valkyria Chronicles, that might not be too shabby.

Who was blatantly oversimplifying it? I haven't seen it and didn't claim to know anything about it. I just pointed out that I'd always heard the reaction was very negative overall, thus it's not something that would give me confidence about this show (as another A-1 console rpg > anime adaptation). You'd have a point if I started trashing specific elements of the show, which I certainly did not. And why would I? I haven't seen it and don't have any interest in it.

I'd like to think that the trend of using the original sound track for the anime version would stick around here but then again, I think a lot of this is going to depend on whomever ends up directing.

I have yet to see anyone say anything about Persona Trinity Soul other than its quality (which seems to be mostly based on heresay) or about how it is or isn't related to the game. Neither says anything about the plot or nature of the show, let alone oversimplify it.

Likewise, how am I oversimplying Utaware? I guess I did when I said the thing about male characters, but the fact remains that it is a show people watch for the girls (and traps, I suppose). No one cares about the guys in the show. I guess the difference is that I actually saw Trinity Soul and it's really too simple to just call it "it's ok" as it's a recommendation and not really a description.

Valkyria Chronicles sounds like something I might be interested in, except for the setting. I'm not fond of modern settings for RPGs. I tend to prefer fantasy. I wonder how this will translate into my feelings for the anime though.

From the looks of things, this will be Yasutaka Yamamoto's directorial debut? Both he and Atsuko Watanabe haven't been involved in any series I've seen. But that won't keep me from watching VC.

Michiko Yokote's resume is fairly diverse, however. It was interesting to see she worked on Genshiken and Haré+Guu. Not having played the game or seen any of the recent series she's worked on (i.e. Nabari no Ou), I'm not sure what conclusions to make. That being said, I feel confident that the adaptation will be good.

Now, I just have to wait to find out who's doing the music. Keep us posted, Westlo. :)

I'll be really surprised if Hitoshi Sakimoto's score wasn't used for the anime, also expecting a new JUJU (or whoever Sony/Animax want to push a single for) single for the OP, we never got "No Matter The Distance" in the English version of the game due to some licensing issues I believe. Hope they keep the Megumi Toyoguchi song "Succeeded Wish" in as well...

Dallas would be awesome :3 I can definitely see Jann showing up, for better or worse. Personally, Hannes and Jane have been my favored pair to bring into battle, so I hope they show up for something. Looking forward to Rosie and Selveria's appearances as well.

I also hope that somewhere in it all we get the beach episode, and on that do we know how long they're aiming for? The game with side-stories runs about 25-30 game-chapters, and while some of it could be trimmed out, I think it'd make for 2 cour with a ton of action pretty easily.

I'm getting into the last quarter of the game or so and its been quite enjoyable thus far while pulling some story bits that I wasn't ready for at all.

Yeah, that's what I've been finding. SRPGs have neeeeeeeever been my cup of tea (last one I played was back in the PS1 days and got royally stuck after several hours) but I decided to give this one a shot and I think I can get into it. I hope to see the Canvas Engine (is that what it's called?) used on future titles.

Before I start I will confess that I've only seriously played the PS1 version of FFT. I won't deny that leveling up is a part of FFT. If you want to get technical leveling up is a part of most if not all RPGs. Which is just it, I don't believe the level up factor in FFT is any worse than the average RPG that I've played over the years.

Which is to say, that some will have trouble even at the max level. Others will find it possible to beat the game at 1/2 or to 2/3 the max level. While others will drive us up the *****ing wall as they manage to beat the game at 1/5 the max level. For the record, I usually fall in the 1/2 to 2/3 range on game.

That being said, leveling up is only part of games like Final Fantasy Tactics. If anything it's your set up that matters most in FFT. Although I suppose one could count the need to fight battles and gain JP to learns skill for the purpose of setting up the party a form of leveling up.:sweat:

As for Disgaea, well that's a bit harder for me to deny. Since in general a certain developer seems to be way too focused on the "numbers" game. Although the leveling up factor usually only becomes truly annoying during the side quests and the like....

All I know is leveling up is a funny thing in RPGs. Sometimes a boss I have trouble with at level 70 will be crushed by someone else who is only level 40. Other times I'll be the one beating the boss at level 40 while others can't even do at level 70. I have no idea why that is, but it just seems to be the way things are.

Yeah, actually, the main storyline in Disgaea games can usually be beaten with little to no level grinding...although later maps need to be approached as puzzles to figure out rather than places you should expect to muscle through.

But while Valkyria Chronicles is technically the same genre, it's nothing like Disgaea or FFT--there's no grid based movement, or special magical attacks; and the actual gameplay puts you right there in the field of battle, trying to find cover and line up shots. It's a lot more engaging.

If Jane, and the ever adorable bomb nut, Wendy dont make an appearance that would really suck as they are my two favourite shocktroopers (not including Rosie). Marina and Catherine would also be missed and the bad ass duo of Vyse and Aika would be cool to see.

Really I cant think of anyone I wouldnt want in. I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out and how many squad 7 squadies they include.

There's also this weird...weather report thing, that I guess is supposed to represent character relationships.

Hopefully soon they'll update with characters whom we don't know for a fact have to be in the show.

4月からの放送が決定したTVアニメ「戦場のヴァルキュリア」。
先月公開されたメインキャラクター3名の設定画に続き、
本日、新たなキャラクター設定画がそのベールを脱いだ。

今回公開されたのは、下記の3キャラクター。

放送開始に向けて、着々と制作が進められているという
TVアニメ「戦場のヴァルキュリア」。

この度「VALKYRIA TRIBUNE」では、
シリーズ構成の横手美智子さんへの接触に成功。
脚本の進行状況についてコメントをいただいた。

スタッフ一同、がんばっております。チームワークもばっちり。
打ち合わせのあとの飲み会は、インフルエンザでも絶対参加。
他の仕事があってもブッチ上等。
ストーカー体験。夫婦の倦怠期。年上バツイチとの恋。
そんなズズ黒いものをかかえつつ、
でもつくっているのは、主人公たちの「あったらよかったのに」な
初々しい恋物語＆ハードな戦争巨編。
錬成鍋のなかに、ありとあらゆるナマな感情を詰め込んで、
「戦場のヴァルキュリア」お送りしたいと思います。

If you go to any of the character's pop-ups, their eye's will occasionally blink, but it looks like a screen glitch and not at all natural. Spooky.

Anyway, it's nice to easy all the characters so far are retaining their voice actors. It's always good to have a bit of consistency between mediums.

Isara looks very cute in the distance shots. I still think her eyes are a little too big in the close-ups. It just seems at odds with the way she's drawn in terms of proportions.

I have not got the game, but have a sample that came with a magazine (along with Killzone 3 sample!). Seems good enough to buy new!

Not a big fan of the art style in the anime. Maybe because it's I'm used to the graphics from the game? Either way I think Isara's eyes are a bit big compared to everyone else's...

I'll probably watch the show anyway, since I enjoyed the game a lot.

And, the amount of confusion grows as I realize people consider that increasing a character's eye size is cute.

Not as much as a big deal as to people trying to increase sexual appeal by making their eye's wider. But, still...how does it make it cute? I'm lost. Is it because it's shinier or something?

...on second thought, I don't want to know.

I've noticed just the opposite. It reaches a point where the eyes are so big people find them strange, but in general I think eye size has been slowly getting bigger in anime over the last few years so we're just becoming accustomed to it now. Isara does have rather small eyes in the game too, but I figured that was meant to be a distinguishing characteristic of her race along with the hair color (I seem to recall Nadine having fairly small eyes too).

Oooh, I totally approve of the Rosie artwork. She has always been hot but now even more so. Eleanor looks more like a stern office lady than I'm used to but it is somewhat fitting if a bit different.

Largo is still Largo, but Radi Jaeger seems a little clean-cut to me. Berthold Gregor is just the same too.

I swapped between the girl engineers depending on terrain conditions, but tended to favor Dallas. Although it was no great disappointment to use Nadine either. ^^

That she was. Nadine was my secondary engineer and I usually deployed two engineers and occasionally preferred Nadine depending on mission conditions, so she saw about as much combat as Dallas.

About the new art, I have to say that Eleanor Varrot looks the best to me, so far. The more stern and collective she looks, the more viewers will be captivated by her side story (if it's in the anime).

Actually, her pacifism is an amusing and memorable character trait that will translate better into anime than many of the other characters.

I'm pretty sure the character page of the main site gives us an idea. There's a strange "relationship connection arrow" between Alicia and Faldio . If it's true... well damn, things are going to be interesting towards the second half.

The potential triangle is an interesting choice, but I can see it working.

Can we have this show come out this week? I mean sure I beat the game already, but I still love the characters and the story was really good. I'll be glad once I can I watch this. Although, I think Alicia's design makes her look bulky where in the game she looked like a twig. I'm saying really broad shoulders.
