Since Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gaiden Nekogoroshi-hen was a bonus in JP for those who bought all of season 1, will this be included in the US release of Higurashi season 1?

Are are we SOL in this?

I would be shocked if they included it. They never said anything about it and considering how we got screwed on any other extras, I don't see why we would get this. We typically don't get things that Japanese fans have to put some effort to get, like this (I believe they had to send in something or another to get this). So the odds of us getting this are virtually nil.

We didn't get "screwed" out of much: aside from some liner notes written on the (non-reversible) covers and including first-press items, the R2's were just as bare as the R1's.

Sure would be nice if the OVA was included. The Shana OVA was on the FUNi thinpack, so I guess nothing's impossible.

But I love liner notes. We also didn't get clean OP/EDs, though those weren't on the R2s to begin with as they were also part of the bonus stuff I mentioned above. Which is the whole point.

"Screwed" may be a tad harsh for what was lost (its not like we lost the equivalent of the Shana-tan or Don't Tell Maria extras) but the fact remains that we didn't get some very basic extras (clean OP/ED) and something else that would have been easy enough to include (the liner notes could easily have been made an on-disc extra if the rights were obtained for it).

Each DVD came with a post card, you clipped the corner out of each postcard for each DVD and mailed it off on the form that came with the last volume of the series, Vol. 9. Mail it in by a certain date, wait two months and get your bonus DVD.

As far as extras for the R2 release, aside from the TIPS/liner notes the LE also came with 3 different boxes one for vol. 1-3, second for 4-6 and the third for 7-9. bonus CD's were included as well with CD dramas, OST samples etc.

But yes, the DVD's themselves were fairly lacking in extras. (If I recall correctly you had to purchase one of the fan discs to obtain the clean OP/ED...

That's my understanding as well. Which is why I would be shocked if we got Nekogoroshi-hen. If we can't get the clean OP/EDs just because they were on a fandisc, I can't imagine we would Nekogoroshi-hen which was also on a fandisc.

What about the fans who've been buying each vol individually are the SOL too. Then again someone needs to work on a fandisc here, lol. Right now waiting for the vol.6 tofor the completion.

But i've seen the nekogoroshi-hen ep.

I have both fandiscs. The first one has a clean ED, among other things (next episode previews, a PV, a music video to Keichi's character song, etc). The second was more or less the same, except it had a clean version of the final ending. Both also included another DVD which had clips of what happened. Neither disc has a clean version of the opening, as far as I know. Interesting enough, the second fandisc appears to have a comparison between the Japanese and the English dub for a few select scenes.^^U Well, I'm assuming it is the English dub--I've never heard it, apart from what appears in the fandisc.

I don't, of course, have the mail-away only OVA. ;_;

Thanks for the clarification. So it seems a clean OP doesn't exist? How very odd. ... Wait, next ep previews are on the fandisc? Do the DVDs not have those either or were they just repeated on the fandisc?

I know they are on the fandiscs. I didn't buy the R2 DVDs, so I don't know if they're on there or not.

This is why we must buy these DVDs. Incentive to get Funimation to go and license the rest of the seasons and put pressure on the companies over there to let us have the OVA too.

The individual discs have them too, though they aren't given a separate chapter and just tagged on after the ending credits. (Which fits, seeing as the ED theme segues into the previews anyways.)

The R2 episode/chapter select menu itself basically took the preview format and turned it into a navigational menu, with key phrases popping up and disappearing as you make your selection. (It runs for quite a while too for a sub menu.)

To clear the record, the online previews for -Kai- also made it to their individual DVD's. (And even got their own chapter this time.)

I don't, of course, have the mail-away only OVA. ;_;

One of the few times I was glad to be on top of a mail in and didn't have to try to fight the hordes on yahoo.co.jp for a copy.

As far as the clean OP goes, that ~might~ have been a Comiket fandisc exclusive item but I'm not certain... I thought I saw it showing up on a listing for one of the fan discs somewhere...

I'm in the habit of skipping the ending credits, and the Next Chapter button always pulls up the next episode preview (such as it is). I can't remember if that chapter is marked in the scene selection menu, but it definitely has a chapter marker. Are you talking about the R2s or something?
