Tsubasa Chronicle is one of the few things from FUNimation on the DeepDiscountDVD sale. It's also one of the few CLAMP titles I've never seen.
I'm not concerned with the cameos or art style, but how is the story? Does the first season wrap nicely? Did anyone get really sucked into the story when they watched it and couldn't wait for the next disc or did anyone drop it soon? Any opinion of the show would be nice to hear.
(I'm aware of the other Tsubasa thread, but that seems to be more about cameos and its impact on enjoying the series).

It's okay, nothing special. I have been buying it and following along, with no prior knowledge of the manga (since I don't read much manga at all).
If it's on heavy discount, and you have a liking for CLAMP, both stories and character designs, sure pick it up. But it's not really anything special.
The first season does not wrap up the major story arc, since it's an ongoing (and going and going and going) plot.
I would advise renting before buying, but you might not have that ability (if the sale is ending soon).

While the show has arcs, all of them relate to the main storyline. Which wont end. At least, not anytime soon. Even the end of the second season does not end the show. The OVA's provide additional arcs, but again do not finish the show. If CLAMP ever finishes the manga and it remains popular enough, we might get an ending. One day. But it isnt even close right now.
Thus, if you dont love Sakura and Shaoran and just want to see more of them, it's not all that great. In the end, it's about those 2 characters along with any cameo's that might happen along. It's a CLAMP character love fest really. Personally I hate it when they end arcs between discs because I do want to see what comes next (which is why I usually wait for a season to finish before getting it), but it's not like I'm waiting with baited breath.
If you love CLAMP and especially CCS, then it's a must buy. But since you dont have it yet, that pretty much gives away your general CCS love meter, I'd say rent the first disc or two. That'll give you a decent impression. Bearing in mind, I'm preferring the second season and the end of the first, more than the first half of the first season.

Heh, actually, I do love CCS. I guess I failed to mention that my sister began buying this show when the first couple of discs were released. I watched the first disc and wasn't exactly enthralled with it (but it is entirely possible that I wasn't paying a lot of attention to it). I know its not completely wrapped, so that's why I was wondering how what is currently out there plays out. Although, I'm glad to hear it picks up.
While I liked it more than I probably should because of the main two characters, I likewise can't recommend the show, primarily because it attempts to go all over the place in terms of genre, so it's very easy not to like an arc, love the next, then hate the following arc. In a way even though CLAMP always has slow pacing, this one didn't get terribly interesting beyond the main two characters until the final arc of season one - a long time to wait for a payoff. Even Noir gets interesting sooner than that. :p

The stories are just ok. It is basically only great if you are a big fan of the characters. I just watched it because I love Yuuko.:)

While I like CLAMP, I still wasn't familiar enough with their works (particularly their manga that's never been animated) to catch most of the character references. I actually liked the originals like Kurogane, Fai, and "Speaking Mokona" better than Sakura and Shaoran, who came off as hollow imitations of their canon selves. Other than that, TRC is one of the best insomnia cures I've ever seen.

If you really want to try this show, I recommend renting it and saving your cash. This show is spectacularly average. Nothing stands out about the show at all. The character designs, production quality, animation, and music all do little to really draw you in. It's not a terrible show, just far from being good or even something special. It's probably CLAMP's most disappointing show.
Personally, I can't even stay awake through this show. I've only been able to make it through a few episodes, and find I can only watch one or two at a time without passing out. Quite frankly, the show is pretty boring and the characters are uninteresting. To say I was disappointed in this show is an understatement, especially after all the hype it initially received.

Theres only a select few episodes that I didn't care for mainly because it was slow.
I do recommend this series, but yes you should rent it first to see if you enjoy it. I like all the characters and the story is quite interesting. It's a fantasy/sci fi genre type anime I enjoy. I had no further knowledge of it I rented it and enjoyed so out of the blue I began buying the singles. I am missing vol. 4 though mainly because I picked them up at my local Hastings. I have all of them up till vol. 9. But yes those cliffhangers drive me crazy, but most anime at least Funimation shows are like that.

If you like fantasy/sci-fi themed (though moreso fantasy) adventures, you'll probably end up enjoying the series despite it's lack of strong resolution by the end.
For me, I like a lot of CLAMP's prior works (especially Rayearth) so this series had the added bonus of seeing a lot of familiar faces again... and Yuuko.
So if you like any of CLAMP, specifically CCS (due to Sakura being a main character), you'll probably enjoy this series. Tomoyo's around too, btw, just not as prevelant.

I watched Season 1 and part of Season 2, and I would also have to say that it was rather average at best. The music was nice, but they repeat it quite a bit (in typical Bee-Train fashion). As most people have pointed out, the pacing of the series is rather slow for the most part. Otherwise, I don't have any faults with the series.
One interesting thing to point out is that the manga does move at a rather good pace in general, and is more exciting. At least, this is what I heard from my friends who have both read the manga and watched the anime.
