View Full Version : Any chance of seeing Fafner again?

This was one of Geneon's earlier titles, but I'm not sure if it falls under the same time line of licenses as When they Cry or not... is there a chance that we might see this again? I just wondered since the manga surfaced that interest in the series might get sparked enough to get the series again. Did anyone rescue it?

It's one of the titles that's in limbo. It's out of print until someone rescues it and I'm not sure how good it's chances are for that. Funi did mention that they were looking into some of the Geneon titles that are in limbo, Trigun was the only one they mentioned by name, maybe they are looking into Fafner too. It's anyone's guess.

Well, TRSI still has a few copies of the boxset, as well as the singles (except for volume 3).
They are listed here (http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/ruK2aPWsilBIysHW2n/browse/search/5/4/0/0/results/desc/asc/50/1).

Fafner was part of the gigantic Geneon USA catalog that has since already had its license reverted back to the Japanese companies, and there's no guarantee that it'll ever get licensed again. Honestly, I'd pick it up now while you can if you really want it, especially with six of those seven volumes at those crazy prices. You can simply hunt around other sites for the missing volume. There are only a handful of Complete Collection boxsets left on there, too.

I would be kind of surprised if FUNI did rescue this series. While I enjoyed it a lot, it's pretty much a regurgitation of a common genre. The soundtrack is pretty awesome though. :P

I wouldn't mind if Fafner wouldget a re-releaase, it was one of the better Eva-type series around with some good characters, storyline and Mecha action..

Bandai announced it actually. Its coming in February. Check the listings. Even this site posted it. I thought and I say this because my memory's sketchy at the moment, but I thought the message said that it was coming shortly after the release of the MS Team 08 Gundam Team re-release sets. Now I might be mistaken and things may have changed or I may be confusing that with something else but I could've sworn I saw that posted. Of course now I can't find the dang thing to prove my findings, but I could've sworn it was there.

I don't remember reading it in the news release and I think the ASMB (Adult Swims board) would be going nuts if it had been announced. So I don't think it has been rescued but it would be nice if it was :) .

I agree. Since it is one of those titles that no one really knows what is going to happen truly, we should probably just assume that it will not get a rerelease. I'd start looking for the boxsets and such that were released by Geneon and hope to strike a good deal with it. TRSI puts it on the weeklys every couple of weeks...

The problem comes to that the Bandai's February solicitation has not been finalized. The official solicitation probably won't come out until early December. If BEI has rescued it, the news won't be hidden like this for such a series.

Okay. It was probably one of the Diamond Preview ads. I'm probably mistaking it for something else.

Yeah, I can't find anything anywhere about Bandai having Trigun. But since everyone has been grabbing old Geneon titles, it's certainly not out of the question.
As for Fafner, I don't expect to see it back. But I also thought the same thing about Mahoromatic, so I wouldn't be surprised to see someone announce it soon.

I'll keep an eye out for that Trigun ad... that's so odd. I could've sworn I saw it. Well, darn. When I saw it, though, it was awfully late. >_<
Never did see Mahoromatic-- at the time there were just too many of its kind around for me to care, but I might actually want to give a try now that ADV has it... or is it Funi? I can't remember who has what now. ;P I DO remember that Funi has Welcome to the NHK though... I can't wait to see that. I think I saw only one ep of that though, and I can't really remember it.
I can't wait for Love Hina in February though... I missed it the first time. Do they have the OAV's? If not, I'll have to pick those up somehow elsewhere.

I believe ADV currently holds the license to Mahoromatic through it's partnership with Sentai Filmworks.
P.S. I think I'd prefer Bandai to pick up Trigun over FUNimation. No offense.

No, when it comes to Trigun, I'm with you... I think Bandai would be a perfect fit for them. But I like Funi just fine. I love what they've done with Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. Haven't seen XXXHolic though. Too strange for my tastes. I love CLAMP stuff, but for some reason, it just isn't my style.
I just wish we'd hear something on Fafner and Trigun one way or the other... silence in this case is not golden.

Eh you may be waiting for awhile. Not much has been said about many of the old Geneon titles sense Funi rescued what they did...
I'd love for a bunch of stuff from Geneon to be saved, stuff like : Lupin III, Paranoia Agent, Petit Cossette, R.O.D the TV, Serial Experiments Lain among others...

I thought when Funi made the announcment way back,on helping Geneon titles out of said limbo, that we'd see it resurface ?
Its getting damn hard to find this with artbox.

Yeah, Samurai Champloo is in limbo too. That distro deal Funi is doing with Geneon is only for the shows that were announced as part of it here (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/press-release/2008-07-03/funimation-entertainment-and-geneon-entertainment-sign-exclusive-distribution-agreement-for-north-america). The rest of Geneon's shows as far as I know are in licensing limbo. Considering their popularity though, I think Samurai Champloo along with Trigun have the best chances of being rescued.

Its getting damn hard to find this with artbox. Were you talking about the complete series with artbox, or the starter set? Because the starter set quickly became hard to find even while the show was in print and Geneon was conducting business as usual.
As for Fafner, it would be nice if it saw another release, hopefully in a cheaper collection. I picked it up a little over a year ago after Geneon's shutdown, and it was far cheaper to get used / Bargain Bin singles. I get the feeling the show was written off as an EVA clone and lost in the shuffle of everything else that was coming out at the time. But Fafner managed to be the show that took Scrapped Princess down from the top of my favorites list after nearly 4 years. I don't use it as my avatar for nothing, after all.

Besides Funimation saving titles like Samurai Champloo, Trigun, and Lain, sense ADV recentyl went on a requeuing licenses spree, and some Geneon titles were including, I would say there's a good chance they get a few more older Geneon titles, if the ones they just got sell well.
I sure hope Funimation and ADV starts grabbing these titles. I hate seeing great shows OOP, or hard to get :( .
