Rather than choosing a whole show, what prequel scenes would you like to see animated?
E.g. Revy from Black Lagoon getting her tattoo done. Misato & Kagi's college love-in in Evangelion. Shizuka first seeing Natsuki before My HiMe story started.

Cowboy Bebop - (1) I'd like to see the period of Spike and Vicious' childhood/adolescence, how they were taken in by the mob and grew up together. (2) I'd also be interested in seeing how Spike and Julia got together in the first place. (3) Another good prequel would focus on the details of Jet's life immediately following his departure from the ISSP, his decision to become a bounty hunter and purchase the Bebop, and how he and Spike met and decided to go into business together.
Yeah, those are whole shows, aren't they... to pick one scene, I'd say Spike and Julia's first date.

I want to see the Zentraedi V. Supervision Army war -- basically what happens around the SDF-1 before it is sent to Earth.
If you don't know what show I'm talking about, you need to watch more Macross! :)

What Aeru was doing before Simoun - more scenes with her grandfather, and what happened after that and before/during her time on the southern front. It's obvious from the story that SOMETHING important happened, but we never find out what. I kept hoping for a scene dealing with her locket :/

The Pr novel flashback scene from Kiddy Grade (and the KG2 pilot). I can't read the books and an anime is infinitely more likely to get a translation. Plus it means more chibi Eclair.

They left a ton of loose ends in Simoun, didn't they?
Like danth, I've always been curious about the SDF's origins myself (in Robotech).

Having read about it in the latest volume of Hayate the Combat Butler, I'd love to see the first meeting between Hayate and Ayumu.

Last Exile - Do I need to really explain this? This is a huge world waiting to be explored and a prequel would be just as good as the series.
RahXephon - the movie showed some, but I think seeing it expanded about seeing Ayato and Haruka's relationship torn apart and invasion would be something fun to watch.

Chi from Chobits being taken to the garbage disposal. Not too much explanation as to why/how/when she got there.
Strawberry Marshmallow pre-sequel showing Miu as the terrible 7 year old that she probably was.

In various books and comics, there has been so much backstory developed for U.C. Gundam over the years that you could easily get a whole TV series out of it. The building of the colonies. The Contolist philosophy and the social forces that shaped the forced immigration into space. The rise of Zeon Zum Daikun, and what the Zabis did to him and his family. The development of the first mobile suits, the Battle of Loum, the British Operation, Char's early career. Admiral whatsisname's capture and "miraculous" escape. Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's been assembling and retelling a lot of this in his Gundam the Origin manga anyway.
When I heard that there was going to be a new Gundam series called "00" of all things, I got excited, thinking that such a thing might happen.
D'oh.

It may not be much, but I would like to see Fist of the North Star's Jagi engrave his scars on his own chest.

I suppose the problem with getting an anime series might come from the sheer amount of authors to deal with and of course trying to pick and choose and get a flow going from story to story.

Quite a few series have prequel stories to be told for me.
xxxHolic - I am sure there is a lot of story in Yuko's background
Ergo Proxy - The backstory for the state of the world
Scrapped Princess - The Genesis Wars and its aftermath.
Rozen Maiden - Despite Overture there is a lot of origin story untold.
Utawarerumono - The backstory could easily fill a series.
Last Exile - I agree with Talyn. There is just so much untold it confuses the ending.
Read Or Die - Yomiko Readman's history and work for the British Library
MoonPhase - Who exactly is Hazuki's father and what happened to her mother. How does it relate to kouhei's mom etc etc.

Oh...those are excellent choices too... I can't believe I missed Ergo Proxy.... :sd:

Of course, we've drifted far away from prequel *scenes* here.

I like origins for some reason whether it be characters, vehicles, or machines.
From Saber Marionette J: I've always wanted to see the construction of Lime, Cherry, and Bloodberry and why exactly they were placed in those specific locations where Otaru just happened across them.
Black Lagoon: I'd like to see how Dutch, Benny, and Revy initially met and how their first encounters went. For that matter I'd like to see how Dutch obtained the PT Boat "Black Lagoon."

From Negima!, I'd like to see flashback bit from chapter 128 of the manga in which Yue befriended fellow Library Club members Nodoka, Haruna, and Konoka (yes, she's a member of the Library Exploration Club).

Quite true. For Black Lagoon, it would be interesting to see Revy's freak-out when Benny joined. And before that the scene where Dutch got Revy to join his (new?) crew.
Evangelion. What Gendou was like finding Rei 1 strangled, & Naoko Akagi splattered after her suicide jump (Birth of NERV). Also the moments when Yui Ikari was absorbed into Eva 01, & Asuka's mother's attempt at same went wrong. Finally, what else Ritsuko found in the remains of Eva 00, apart from Rei II's dismembered charred hand. (Now how could all that have been done so grimly in FLCL animation style?)
