link is broken
I had one of my friends translate it and it said "Yu Yu Hakusho Greenlit for Blu-ray" or something along those lines. I believe that is correct.

Specifically, the Yu Yu Hakusho TV series (although I wouldn't be surprised if the movies and OVAs came to Blu-ray as well).
And in case it wasn't clear, this is for Japan only at this point.

So, are they going to release it in singles or box sets? This would be the first long running shounen fighting show to get a blu-ray release in Japan, so it'll be interesting to see how they handle it.

No details have been announced. It was just a blurb in the margin in the latest chapter of Hunter X Hunter saying that the TV series is coming to Blu-ray and to keep reading subsequent issues of Jump for details.

Damn it, Japan! Whenever you put a new show on Blu-ray, that's another one I can't buy in the US!
I mean... Now I just can't make myself fork over the money for the YYH DVD boxsets from Funimation knowing full well that there's a Blu-ray release in Japan (that had better come to the US soon)...
This sucks...
By the way, that site muhootsaver linked to seemed to suggest that this is going to be a box set release, both on Blu-ray and regular DVD.

That's why I'm only finishing DVD series that I already started with FUNi and not buying any new series. It makes little sense to buy something in DVD when there's a BD release in the works in Japan.

Hmm, not a bad per-ep price. Interesting that the DVD box versions are exclusive to Animate, which doesn't put any discount on their products. So the Amazon price for the Blu-rays won't be that much more expensive than the DVDs. They're obviously not expecting to sell many of the DVD boxes.
Since the three Blu-ray boxes are spread out 2 months apart from each other I might get these. Been wanting to see this series for a while.

8 episodes on a BD50, so the bitrate is gonna be lower than the usual release, also the PIP commentary is gonna even lower the bitrate.

Aww darn I just got the dvd sets recently ;_; I haven't opened them yet so maybe they could be returned? But still.... blah, guess I lose out this time! Would a show this old even benefit from a BD release o.o?

Pillarboxed 4:3 material has about 25% dead space, so lowering the bitrate shouldn't affect it nearly as much as if it were "full" 16:9 material. Thus far I've heard nothing but positive things about Shigurui, which also squeezes 4 episodes per 25 gigs with lossless 5.1 audio.
And yes, an old show will look better in HD. It'll be grainier and less vibrant than a brand new show, but that doesn't mean the color reproduction and grain structure and several other factors won't be substantially improved, even over a well made DVD.

So anyone else get their copy in yet? I had mine delivered about 30 minutes before going to work so I could only preview a few minutes of the first episode. Resolution looked good, it had good looking colors and it was nice to see a version without rainbows and dot crawls. It did look very clean though which may mean that some DNR was done, since I would expect the film stock of this show to be grainy to some degree, but it didn't look smeary like the GE999 movies did so if it was done they did it pretty well. I'll have to wait till I get home to watch anything significantly but from what I can see on my 46" TV it was a HUGE step up from the DVDs that I have.

Anyone else get this?
Amazon has the US version for season 1:

Anyone know if they are using the same Japanese remasters or are they just up scaling the episodes themselves?

Nothing concrete is really know. The U.S. thread is here: [US] Yu Yu Hakusho (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=104192).
