Here I am running into the same problem, that I ran into last week and after watching a few stand ups on Comedy Central. I think I've came up with a fun New Year's game, that might need to be moved to the Off Topic thread, if it gets a little out of hand.

I think everyone knows those "You might be a red neck, if..." jokes. Let's substitute "red neck" with "addicted to anime" and see what we come up with. I'll go first and you'll see what I ran into last week.

You might be addicted to anime, if...

Guilty. I always feel most pathetic at times like this. The fact that I'm not alone makes me feel bad for those others out there feeling like this too.

I never feel like I'm missing out on the alcohol part though. I think it's the single most overrated social activity in the universe. I'm so glad I apparently am not addicted to Anime.

Well, I might be based on the number of DVD's one. I'll have to check since I dont have a real count, it'll be close though between Anime DVD's and non-Anime ones. I only have the Anime ones on shelves though, everything else is stacked in various spots and in the spare bedroom since I dont watch a lot of it very often. Why the heck do I have Supernatural anyway? Seasons of Buffy. Stuff like that. The Star Trek collection alone is probably over 200 discs, and that's just a small bit. Scary, but regular DVD's are so much cheaper than Anime and friends tend to sell me their used normal DVD sets cheap.

I did watch Anime on New Year's Eve, but mostly I slept through it. I try to ignore New Year's up here because it just gets me homesick and frankly...it's boring compared to Hawaii. That and I cant drink so even that part of it is rather pointless.

The collage...hmmm...no dont think I can identify half of them. I see some Fate/Stay Night, Rozen Maiden, Shuffle, and I think I saw a Strawberry marshmallow shot in there. I dont think that's half though.

Oh, btw...I really didnt need to see that shot in the bottom left corner...probably qualifies the picture for a (NSFW) tag as well... Kinda funny...but so didnt need to see it.

Hmmmm...well, my online handle is that of a fictional person I suppose...but it's not Anime related so I dont think that counts. If anything it shows my addiction to AD&D and MMO's. My personality is me though.

Huh. Yeah, sadly I dont appear to be addicted to Anime. Dont think I can come up with anything to add either.

If the movies are live action then I'd count them as live action. Any given adaptation should be categorized solely based on the format of the adaptation and the format of the source material should not be relevant to the categorization.

This is probably the simplest way to do it. After all source material to adaptation can happen in a variety of ways. Manga to Anime, Manga to Live Action, Anime to Manga, Game to Manga. Heck there are cases where both the manga and anime are adaptations. You probably get the idea by now.

Same given names or family names, sure, but I'm always amazed how few (important) characters actually share the same full name combination. It's like there's a central registry of anime character names people check before naming their characters, because just taking danbooru as an example, I can't think (off the to of my head) of a single full name tag for any character that conflicts exactly with any other character.

You name no-name generic RPG characters after anime characters. *Classical is guilty of doing that with Disgaea 1 and 2*

Hah, I did exactly that when I started playing Disgaea last year. :P (for a few characters at least - I particularly remember my martial artist named Tomoyo)

Heh, I gave some of the characters names from characters in Negima. I think I named my ronin "Setsuna" and my healer "Konoka." :sdsmiley:

No fair! You can't have both Saber and Rin as your wife.

But they're great to have together (http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/2595/christmas-fate-stay_night-pinup-saber-thighhighs-t). :catgirl:

Considering how many different characters have the same name it is not that hard to accomplish.
Same given names or family names, sure, but I'm always amazed how few (important) characters actually share the same full name combination. It's like there's a central registry of anime character names people check before naming their characters, because just taking danbooru as an example, I can't think (off the to of my head) of a single given_family full name tag for any character that conflicts exactly with any other character.
True but normally when I think about people I don't think about their family names..

You base your cell phone upgrade on whichever new model has a place to hang a cell phone charm. Even going so far as to e-mail Samsung as to why there is not a said place on the new Blackjack and/or Epix model... LOL

Hah, but killing off your own people is actually beneficial if you want to add to your count for Dark Knight, I guess (on the PSP version).

One time I dismissed all of my start up people and got new ones so I could name them, and I had a Princess Tutu theme going on with my team (even gave them abilities that made them like characters - Drosselmeyer was a Mediator who could Teleport, Tutu was a Geomancer with White Magic and Ignore Height, Kraehe was a Oracle with Black Magic, Abandon, and Fly, etc.)

Yeah

Basically, it started out months ago in the car when my wife & I got sick and tired of Baby Einstein and decided to try out Dango Daikazoku since it sounds like a wicked kids song to begin with. Surprisingly, it worked and she would stop crying in the car as long as the song was on.

At some point, we started having trouble putting her to sleep around 9 or 10 months and so we moved the song onto the CD player in her room. It worked again! (sound asleep)

However...at some point she started pointing and making frustrated noises towards the CD player at random hours of the day. She wanted us to put the song on!

She would actually complain when we would put it on but forget to set the repeat button (in the sense that the song would finish playing). XD

Currently, she insists that the song be turned on anytime she's in her room regardless of the activity.

She will point, say something like, "da, da, da", and will then start humming the song once it comes on, "da...da...da...humh, humh".

It's freaking incredible.

Right now we're trying to avoid having her watch TV purposefully, but what's usually on when she's there with us is anime DVDs or currently airing JP stuff (playing off the PS3).

If anything, she's got CCS waiting for her when's she ready

Your local librarian calls you to check on what to add to their collection. (Two different counties now.)

You study Japanese (language) so you can understand (some of) what they are really saying.

Your ebay stars are due to filling out your collection.

Friends call you to find out if an ebay listing is bootleg or legit.

You use words real Japanese folks consider archaic.

You've ever heard the words, "Oh, Sakura and Minako!" coming from someone passing by your office.

You safekeep your anime calendars for years when the days-of-week match. Also, you consider the cute zoo animal calendar to be "boring."

Guilty:
> anime to non-anime DVD collection ratio: 98:1
> anime to non-anime CD collection: 1:1
> anime wallscroll to non-anime poster collection: 5:1
> my bank no longer calls about charges to places like TRSI and Amazon.co.jp
> discovered bands through anime, none count as favourite, but I have purchased dozens of non-anime CD's because the artist/band did an anime tune (which count against the ratio above).
> can identify several seiyuu just from the sound of their voice.

Failure:
> manga to other book collection: 1:4
