Slayers Evolution-R Talkback

Well it looks like the newest Slayers season is officially airing. Episode one Slayers Evolution-R has been aired.

What were your thoughts on it? I personally think it is off to a good start.

It picks up right after Revolution, so Pokota is still with them.

Lina looks so cute in reading glasses.


I love the new intro and it is nice to see the big bads from the previous seasons back. Rezo, Ruby Eyes, Gaav, Phibrizzo, and Valgaav are all awesome in the into. That said the intro looks sad.

In the episode we get some scenes of Rezo and when he unleashed Ruby Eyes.

Zuuma and the puppet maid are back.

Also Naga is back?!?

I really hope that's Naga (and I'm 99% it is after the freeze arrow/fire arrow duel that just reminded me of any fight between her and Lina in the movies). My two big hopes from this tv series were to have a meeting between Naga and Amelia and to have Lina's sister appear. Having an animated armour that may or may not house Naga's soul does seem a bit like the writers are giving us Naga while still holding out on us, though. It's amusing (and it really made me sit up when I heard her first go "ho ho ho ho"!), but if they keep her as armour for the entire series and only give us a flash of human Naga walking away at the end with none of the others seeing her I'll be slightly bummed. I want a real meeting.

Looks like we have more living armor creatures. Octopuses (Octopi?) too. I am pretty sure that the newcomer IS Naga. I heard her name being spoken. Also another Dragonslave from Lina. The explosion for this one was epic.

Next episode preview: Naga and Amelia team up for an adventure! Awesome!

Hopefully we will get some kind of closure in this series.

Like confirming Naga and Amelia's relationship.

Also Maybe some Lina and Gourry, Zel/Amelia fluff.

Some info on the replica Sword of Light would be nice. How powerful is it compared to the original and how was it made? Darkstar is gone.

Maybe Gourry will get the Blast Sword too.

Seeing the other 3 subordinates of Shabranigdu and Sherra would be nice as well. The gods too.

Well, the filler is over with 4. Xellos was in the preview, with his eyes open. So it's serious business now.

I really wish they had made this the first season and then made a followup to it instead of the other way around. The first 5 episodes that I have seen so far have been better then entire 13 episodes of Revolution. It feels like Slayers,the only thing missing is crossdressing in episode 4.

I have a crackpot theory on why this season largely (but with some nice new elements: Ozel, and seeing Wizer, Zuuma, Duclis, and Radok animated) retold the first season. It would allow an easier entry for an animated version of novels from 9 on, with the Dynast and Luke arcs.

They really should make an effort to animate the Dynast/Sherra arcs, because IMO they are the amoung the best (along with Hellmaster Phibrizzo/Gaav arcs). (also, it's a damn shame we never got those novels)

Since the Shabranigdu seen in Evo-R was the Rezo shard again, it leaves the other shard still out there. So... they do have the means to make another season.

The only problem is, if they opted to follow the novels like that... they'd have to drop Zelgadis and Amelia, something I don't see happening in the anime.
