Anime News Network (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-01-13/kadokawa-tests-kadotv-video-service-with-subtitles) announced that Kadokawa was testing their new KadoTV video channel (http://kadokawa.sagool.tv/topView.do) for Kadokawa properties. It's currently in beta until February. One of its features is that it allows the users to add their own subtitles to a video, if they wish. At this point, it seems to be pulling a lot of Kadokawa content from YouTube and Veoh, including fansubs. I'm not sure if this is their intention (and/or whether we'll see better filtering in the future). Actually, I'm going to assume this is not their intention. This is their official list (http://kadokawa.sagool.tv/officialListView.do). Truth be told, I'm not sure what they mean for us to watch on there right now so it may be best to wait (for those who want to stay legal). In any case, it seems to be a pretty forward idea for a Japanese company. Any thoughts on it?
The official subtitle system seems kind of ugly and the video quality is poor. But it's free so I can't really complain.^^

::checks out a random English ep::
Urgh. ::twitches::
::starts fervently praying that they don't just decide this is a "good enough" alternative for actually giving us real releases of the shows they prematurely announced (Wagaya, H2O, Spice&Wolf, etc)::

I think they only have first episodes up there, and it looks more like a preview than a complete delivery system.
At least I hope so.
Hey, I finally got to see the first episode of Goshujin-sama Ninomiya-kun. That was rather fun. Maybe I'll check out H20 next.

Lord have pity on thine soul, for it shall be rocked.
Well, in a sense.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure the Kadokawa approved ones are official. Goshujin-sama Ninomiya-kun is a fun title. Nothing special, but fun. I suppose I could check out Mushi-Uta.
Meanwhile, I've been reading the terms of service via a machine translation.^^

H2O had the best/worst English-dubbed commercials for Japanese TV I have on DVD.

I rewatched the first episode of H2O for the heck of it.
These subtitles are pretty bad. The sad thing is I could fix most of the problems since they're mostly a result of the translation being pretty rough. Let's see if the website will let me register...

Well, H20 was amusing.
Though at one point, they had "Blow" up on screen, and I didn't see any white powder, so I wonder about the translation accuracy :P
…
In all seriousness, it was okay. I think I kind of preferred Goshujin-sama Ninomiya-kun. It had a much more fun vibe. H20 is this rather weird combination of ultra-violence juxtaposed with über-cuteness. Sometimes a vaguely unsettling combination.
I realize things probably change quite a bit since he can now see, but I wonder what direction it takes.
