15 years after its theatrical release and a handful of years after the complete TV boxset, Toei has unceremoniously dumped the GS Mikami Movie on R2 DVD. Quick summary:
Audio: Mono Japanese, no subtitles
Video: Looks good. This wasn't advertised as a remaster, HD or otherwise, so I'm assuming it hasn't been touched up. Film is presented in 16:9 letterbox
Cover: Taken from LD release.
Extras: Only the original theatrical trailer, actually an edited version of it. The movie was a triple feature with the third Ranma 1/2 film and Heisei Period Dog Tale Bow. The Mikami Movie LD release contained a long preview of all three films. This DVD cuts off once the Mikami preview is done. This DVD also lacks the Mikami Series Final Fan Party & Dubbing Event on the LD. So if you by chance own the LD, it may be worth holding on to it. Hm... Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon... Toei doesn't seem to be able or willing to port over their old "disc/volume end specials" to the digital era.
I'm not sure why Toei didn't release this movie several years ago, though if anything I suppose its current release was timed to cash in on the success of the Zattei Karen Children anime, which is also from GS Mikami's mangaka. It's unfortunate this is a bare bones release, but at least at 3,800 yen it's cheap.
And now I wait for the only thread reply to be Scrawl's.
