According to a new post on AnimeNewsNetwork.com, this anime has finally got a release date. So, I figured we can start discussing it now.
The official website for the anime adaptations of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-chan (Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yūutsu) and Nyorōn Churuya-san parody manga has announced that their first episodes will begin streaming on February 13 at "about 10:00 p.m." Japan time. Puyo has drawn The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-chan manga as the "official gag manga" of Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito's The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya light novels for both Monthly Shonen Ace and The Sneaker magazines from Kadokawa Shoten since July 2007. Kadokawa's Monthly Comp Ace magazine has been serializing Eretto's Nyorōn Churuya-san manga about a super-deformed version of the Haruhi character Tsuruya since last November.
The Kadokawa Channel on Google's YouTube video-sharing service will distribute the shorts online. Subsequent episodes will premiere every week — subject "to the whim of the SOS Brigade Leader."

Well, this will be intersting, but I sure hope they use it to publicize the 2nd season of the real Haruhi and don't use it as an excuse to push the 2nd season out further.

Oh, I do not know about that. Haruhi-chan promises to be as entertaining as Haruhi, with none of the pretensions (Which is something I wish could be said about some of the fans.). In that sense, I could care less if possible date of an announcement regarding Haruhi Season 2 get pushed to the right.

After Nice Boating those awaiting these earlier in the week, Kadokawa have posted the subbed versions of both of these now. You can see Haruhi-chan here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7_80zTM3Dg), and Nyoron Churuya-san here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPuQkWUYeTM).
I can't say I particularly have anything to say about the content of either aside from Kyon-imouto being amusing.

Probably the best way to look at it.
Haruhi-chan was amusing sort of.
Churuya……I've already read most of the Ereto 4-koma, so there wasn't anything new there for me.

Thanks to watching Haruhi-chan, my image of the little sister has officially been shattered. Also even in this poor Mikuru can't catch a break apparently.

Haruhi-chan 1:
- IMOUTO WINS.
- Haruhi has such a Haruhi-like way of helping people count sheep.
- Tsuruya-tsuru!
- I love sheep Mikuru.
Well, that was.. interesting. Good way to kill a few minutes a week I guess. :sd: I really, really hope evil-imouto is a recurring thing. She's undoubtedly the best part.
Churuya-san 1:
- Haha oh god, what did I just watch? They really are doing the 4koma shot for shot. XD
- Best part was totally the seatbelt. Also, her nyoro~n is super cute.
So yeah, at 6 minutes a week I think I'll keep up with these. They're... about what I expected. :sd:
I know I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm in awe of how fucking stupid Churuya-san is in animu format.
(yes, I do really like the original strip thing, but the animu makes the reality of the sense of humor much more glaringly obvious)
I laughed, but god damn.

The Nice Boat 'oops we're late' spot was an absolute riot.
The Haruhi-chan episode was funny enough, though not quite as much as I'd expected. I got the biggest laugh out of the Haruhi and Mikuru's trying to help Kyon get to sleep.
The Churuya-san was... different. I've never seen the original strips, I imagine they'd be much funnier in 4-koma format than animated. Best part of the episode for me was watching her bounce on the trampoline... that was at least amusing and stupidly cute.
Still, with as short as it is and it was funny, I'll definitely be watching more as it comes out.

Hah, the bit with Kyon finding out Yuki is playing an eroge in the second Haruhi-chan episode was pretty amusing. And Natsuko Kuwatani was interesting to hear in this episode. She really reminded me of someone else playing Asakura near the end (maybe sounded a bit like Yue from Negima - haven't heard her in a while though).

Another good set of eps.... Yuki and the game were absolutely hilarious, and Churuya was definitely better- almost all the bits were funny this time around.
But... and it kind of pains me to say this since I am really glad that they're releasing this officially subbed ... is it just me, or does the translation in the subs leave something to be desired at points? When Haruhi-chan falls flat on her face off the desk, she quite plainly says, "Itai." which they subbed as "I'm sore." instead of the blatantly obvious, "Ouch." or even "That hurt."

That was actually quite amusing. Better than the first one, even if it was shorter and didn't have imouto.
Churuya-san 2:

What's interesting to look at, actually, is how well or poorly the characters translate into the new "format." Haruhi doesn't really look all that good either in Haruhi-chan or Churuya-san.
Others fare a bit better. Mikuru looks so-so in Churuya-san form, but not too bad in Haruhi-chan. The same goes for Itsuki.
Kyon looks pretty good in either form actually.
Ashakura is cute in both.
What's interesting is Yuki. In Churuya-san, she also doesn't come off well, as basically none of the characters look all that good compared to the SD cuteness of Churuya or Ashakura, and somehow Kyon seems to be Kyon no matter what the format.
But in Haruhi-chan, Yuki looks really cute. Especially the bunny headphones shots. Somehow, her basic design lends itself well to the much more simplified designs of Haruhi-chan than some of the others.
By far, Haruhi looks the least appealing, from a visual perspective, in either series. Better in Haruhi-chan than Churuya-san, but somehow she doesn't take too well to being simplified, unlike the others.

Haruhi-chan has some chuckle worthy moments, but Churuya is more miss than hit so far. I think it's funnier as a fan comic. It's cute (though Nyoro~n actually isn't quite as cute as I imagined it to be, it's like nyoro~n mixed with zetsubou the way they portray it), but nothing I can see myself watching more than once. Personally, I like Churuya-san more. It's probably the doujinshi roots, but it reminds me of a good old great webcomic, like Perry Bible Fellowship, or Achewood or something. I like the subtle and understated humor more than the frenetic, random pace of Haruhi-chan.
Also, the scene in...Episode 4 I think...of Haruhi-chan, where Yuki replaces the books with game/anime stuff...that was kind of depressing.

The seifuku is likely based on the one in Nanatsuiro★Drops (http://archive.asciimw.jp/mediamix/7drops/game/ds/index.php). Kadokawa's ASCII Media works published the manga, the PS2 game, and the DS game. On the other hand, the one in the manga looks more generic (but the hairstyle is also different). In any case, I think Lain is a bit of a stretch (especially considering Kadokawa was not involved in its production and it's also more of a Western title). I wonder if those three were even intended to reference specific characters at all, rather than just common designs. I know I could easily name a dozen characters with those features, such as the x hair clip.

Lain was just the first one that the X hair tie brought to mind (other than Yunocchi, who I was going to figure or at least hope wasn't in any of Yuki's games...). It's a pity Mikuru didn't think Haruhi meant for her to wear the other outfits and put them on...

We got something that's actually rather Haruhi-focused this time, and also involving those computer club guys. Haruhi getting all fired up causes the dodge ball game to become rather epic. This one was pretty fun to watch.

Oddly, not yet this time. Looks like there's actually TWO more episodes of Haruhi-chan now (up to #6), but there hasn't been another Churuya-san past #3 yet...
This tells me two things. First, the episodes will come up on a "when they're ready" basis. Second, either Churuya-san needs more material or it's taking more time to prepare it.

You know, I was feeling rather "Blah..." about these with the first one, but there's actually been some rather funny stuff with them since...
I like the Mikuru vs. Yuki cosplay rivalry at the beginning. Yet some more of otaku Yuki this time, and into some nakige now. And Achakura is back!! And Yuki is treating her like a baby, which seems to both satisfy and annoy the shrunken Asakura.

I wonder, did anyone else notice there was a moment where the animation actually went up to the regular high quality, with the full, normal designs? It was odd to see that. Even the backgrounds and everything were rendered in full "realistic" mode. It was a scene with Kyon and Yuki speaking.

Haruhi-chan Ep 4:
- I think I can totally get behind this bunny headphone Yuki playing eroge joke.
- Heh, the transformation from bookshelf to otaku shrine was quite amusing.
- And I love the hairstyles!
- Yesssssss, Achakura! Oh god, this is easily the best Haruhi-chan yet. The cat + chop was very Azumanga-esque.
- HAH, I saw the cushion launcher coming.
- Bwahahaha, Yuki got the tsukkomi she was hoping for.
Wow, that was downright awesome.
Haruhi-chan Ep 5:
- Hey, a Haruhi-chan about Haruhi! It seems challenges aren't as much of a turn-on for Haruhi-chan.
- Haruhi just turned everyone's nekketsu level to 100%
- "How large is the court!?" CLASSIC Kyon! Saying exactly what I'm thinking XD
- Haruhi goes into regular design mode again.
- Wahaha, Mikuru has no nekketsu...

- Hah, and she does give it a go, but...

- Hahah, Yuki is totally turning into a deadpan Konata. But, while the translation is fine so far, what the hell is an "animationalized"? :sd: Was it apun I missed, or did they just totally make up a new word for "animated"?
- "Kyon-kun is maid moe!" Bwaaaaaaaahahahah.
- Yuki and Achakura again! Yuki is really running away with this show, isn't she?
- HAHAHAHAAHA! She's singing the Ga-Rei OP "Paradise Lost"! Chihara Minori seiyuu jokes FTW. Oh my lord. [Edit: What, nobody else noted this? It was the best part!]

Truth be told, I didn't give it much thought. However since you brought it up, I get the feeling it's likely meant to be a direct stab at how some shows will switch styles for select scenes. Such as going into SD mode. In this you have an SD show going into normal designs for select scenes. Talk about a reversal of the natural order.

I've been swamped for the last week preparing for this trip and dealing with something major in my other (well, I suppose that should be 'another', I have more than just two -_-; ) main hobby, and just finally got the chance to watch these episodes on the first leg of my flight. Got a good chuckle out of both episodes, but barely checked myself from shouting, "Holy $(*&#!!" in the middle of an airplane when I realized exactly what she was singing. Entirely too awesome. :beatingheart:
I had been wondering if we'd get a cosplay rivalry between Mikuru & Yuki... but poor Mikuru should realize she stands no chance against someone who can locally alter reality at will.
Achakura is definitely the best part of all of these- she and Yuki are just an absolute blast.
And I would totally buy a pair of those headphones- especially if they were wireless USB ones like it looked like when Kyon gave them to her...

The thing that happened to Churuya with the 500 yen coin in the vending machine? That's actually happened to me.
500 yen goes in, you buy a 120 yen can of coffee, and you then proceed to get 38 10 yen coins.
Unlike the animation, however, the 10 yen coins are spit out 1 at a time, so it takes like a minute just for them all to come out.

It's happened to me in the US; $5 bill (of course, no $5 coin), and got a boat load of dimes back. They didn't come out one at a time on that machine. Even better, the change slot is open, so I had dimes spilling out at the end. That was fun. I was expecting $1 coins back from that machine (that's how it usually worked on that machine).

I think it depends on certain factors. How many shorts are actually planned? Are they willing to pay the cost to dub something that's supposed to be free? Ok, if you want to get technical they had to pay for the Japanese voice acting...
If they feel there's merit to it then they will put them up dubbed for free streaming eventually. However if it's only going to result in a heavy loss then they're not going to bother with it. Although the honest truth is I can only speculate.

I think the big factor is whether or not these get an R1 DVD release. If they do (and they probably will, Haruhi may not have "met expectations" but it did seem to do well), then they will almost certainly get dubbed. I can see a dubbed webstream occurring if they are also releasing DVDs but I don't think they would bother dubbing it just for a webstream.

In my experience, if a person loves the parody series, they will be more open to giving the regular series at try. At least that was the case with a friend who watched Fumoffu before watching FMP. Just make sure to explain that the characters are a bit different in the normal series.

Well let's take Haruhi 9 specifically, the very first exchange:
Their translation said: The SOS Brigade quiz always ended with Kyon's attempt at an explosion up until now.
What is really being said is more "So far, every time we've done an SOS Brigade quiz, it's always ended up with Kyon exploding with some punchline"
Next: "So as to avoid the routine, we are trying out a drama"
should be
"So I was thinking that we should avoid falling into a habit of it and try putting on a Drama"
Kyon's response: "As if I'm enjoying myself!"
should be
"Don't say it like I was enjoying myself!"
You see the point of that joke was Haruhi is assuming that Kyon enjoys coming out with these tsukkomi comebacks and doesn't want to fall into his game. Their translation makes that point completely obtuse.
Continuing: 1:47 "We can't! Where can we see the element?!"
The second part is just completely wrong. Should be
"Like hell we will! And what makes you think we could pull that off?!"
or similar.
2:13 "You said it! Die now!"
I'm not sure who they have translating it but "Omae ga iu na!" means "You shouldn't say it"... it's a chastisation for someone saying something they have no right to say.
In this case, Haruhi is laughing at people for doing silly things with one month to live...
I'd say:
"Like you can talk! You die instead!"
Final line: "Another bomb in the end"
harking back to the original line, this should be
"And yet, it still ends with an exploding punch line."
See where the humor is so much tighter if the translation was just a bit more... well, aware of the jokes?

So it's more of an adaption than a complete and literal translation? That does me fine, since literal translations just aren't as funny as adaptions.

Loose, but I can see what they were getting at. While the line does make more sense now, I prefer their translation.
Next: "So as to avoid the routine, we are trying out a drama"
should be
"So I was thinking that we should avoid falling into a habit of it and try putting on a Drama"
"avoid falling into a habit of it" is the same as "avoid making it a routine". There is very little difference in the two lines, and their translation sounds more natural.
Kyon's response: "As if I'm enjoying myself!"
should be
"Don't say it like I was enjoying myself!"
They are pretty much the same.
You see the point of that joke was Haruhi is assuming that Kyon enjoys coming out with these tsukkomi comebacks and doesn't want to fall into his game. Their translation makes that point completely obtuse.
I didn't get the joke, and wouldn't have got the joke even with the alternate translation. The joke didn't translate, and therefor should have been dropped, which it looks like it was.
Continuing: 1:47 "We can't! Where can we see the element?!"
The second part is just completely wrong. Should be
"Like hell we will! And what makes you think we could pull that off?!"
or similar.
But with every time you're wrong, you also get some right.
See where the humor is so much tighter if the translation was just a bit more... well, aware of the jokes?
The problem with that is that a lot of the jokes either require prior knowledge, or just don't work in English. It's the classic dilema of translating comedy. I think their translations are as a whole enjoyable. I personally couldn't care how accurate it was if it was enjoyable. Sure, if they completely rewrote some puns it wouldn't be right, but in the same breath I'd also speak out adamantly about being over-anal about translation accuracy.

Well, yeah, we all can see that Kadokawa has some non-native speaker Englishing these. I kind of bridle at your suggestion that we hoi-polloi can't figure out what they're getting at most of the time, but I expect you didn't mean to come across like that.
I'm hoping that whenever Haruhi season 2 sees our shores, these will be included as extras (obviously with better translations).

While the translations aren't as smooth as they could be, they're good enough that I was able to understand the humor. Plus the engrishy translations add some charm to the shorts as well.

First off I wasn't trying to be funny in my post above, I was literal on purpose to well, explain the jokes better.
I have nothing against an adapted translation. What I was trying to point out was Kadokawa's translation is LAZY. It makes no attempt to adapt the humor at all in my opinion. The shorts are funny despite the translation. That, to me, is wasted potential.

I really fail to see how people find these so hilarious without understanding Japanese. The translations are so imprecise and/or incomplete...
Yeah the translation is really dry (almost feels like it's getting worse as time goes on). Even I can often tell when they've really simplified it. I had a similar problem with the MangaGamer Da Capo translation - I could tell quite clearly just by listening that the English translation wasn't as "rich" as the Japanese. Admittedly it was a much better translation than what Kadokawa is offering on these and didn't much affect my enjoyment, but then it also cost $70.
But for something this simple, this short, basic familiarity born simply from watching a lot of subbed anime cleans up most of the problems. And really, a lot of the humor just comes from knowing the characters. You don't need to understand the nuances of Japanese culture to find the Haruhi 10 Achakura stuff funny. Just like you don't need to understand every joke (even perfectly translated) to find a show funny.
I read your re-translation. It's better English, and Kadokawa could use some help even from someone who doesn't know a word of Japanese just to clean the grammar and spelling up. But it's still the same message pretty much. I understood the joke before I read your post. I'm not excusing their lazy translation but at 3 mins a pop and for free I'll live. Especially since it's pretty amazing to see a Japanese company do this at all.
I would not watch a serious 24 minute episode with a translation like this, however.

Next week at Tokyo Anime Fair I'll quote them $20 an episode (I'll go down to $10) and see if they're game :). No, really I'll totally do that and see what happens, I got an industry ticket and all.

Just to clarify: Although I was being serious, the chances of something like that actually happening are very small.
The big Japanese companies can't just hire random people to do translations like R1 companies, most of them have tightly regulated "vendor lists" that they have to pick from to do any outside contract work like translations, and the process of getting on these vendor lists is a lengthy one and not an easy one, either.
So the likely reason the english subs are poor is because Kadokawa doesn't have any decent translation company that it has cleared for sub-contracting.

The conversation probably went like this:
At the planning meeting
Producer A: Hey, we're putting these on youtube, how about adding english subs?
Producer B: That sounds like a great idea Producer A! I highly agree! But who can make them?
Producer C: We didn't allocate any money in the budget for subtitling, and we don't have a subcontractor lined up for it...

The results of the girls trying to make chocolate are interesting. Tsuraya makes a crane. Mikuru makes one of Mu-chan the Lion. I wonder if this Mu-chan thing is supposed to be a reference. Yuki is well being Yuki.
I wonder how delicious a life sized Mikuru chocolate would taste. Well, I'm certain that Mikuru herself would taste good. Yeah, I'm going to be killed for saying that, but I've got several lives left.
Poor Achakura becoming a jack in the box thanks to Yuki. I'm starting to think that Achakura is tsundere for Yuki, but then again maybe I've watched too much anime of a certain type.

Haruhi-chan Ep. 12:

Update, in case anyone cared:
So I did approach Kadokawa at Tokyo Anime Fair, and talked about the English subtitles.
First, I learned that the subs are created by the animators themselves, or well, someone in the animation production step, and that Kadokawa Shoten itself has nothing to do with the subs. They aren't subcontracted out, but are instead made in house and this seems to have been just something the animators wanted to do, not a new strategy or purposeful effort on the part of Kadokawa itself.
In fact, I kind of got the impression that they were annoyed the english subs existed at all, because the women implied that they make it harder to do her job of international licensing sales. When I asked if they were interested in having a native speaker do the translations, I was told quite bluntly that translation is the job of the overseas companies who license the shows, and not Kadokawa.

Thats true, I thought quite highly of kadokawa for having them subbed, but them not wanting to do it seems strange as the shorts look like they are being well received.
I have to give credit for whoever did decide on subbing them, no matter the quality, they are reaching out to their established market even if it is overseas.

Haruhi-chan 13 - Haruhi trying to get Kyon's face on the pumpkin was awesome thinking. Yuki always the perfectionist. Cute pumpkin becomes creepy pumpkin monster. Also more awesome Yuki + Achakura interaction it is a shame this wont be in the second season
Haruhi-chan 14 - Kyon turns evil and a declares war on Haruhi. Blow guns are Mikuru's ultimate weakness, Mikuru is so cute. Poor Mikuru tied to a cross and some of those balloon placings seemed a little suggestive to me (although Mikuru isnt exactly flat originally). Why didnt we get to see Haruhi having her wicked way with the tied up Mikuru, that would have been great entertainment.

My thoughts exactly.
While I'd love a 1:1 scale Achakura, I think I'd like a Haruhi-chan-style crying-face Mikuru plush that goes, "Piiiiiiiiii!" when you squeeze it. That bit never gets old... I crack up every time I go back and watch it.
And if I ever get around to learning to program well enough for my iPhone, I'm totally making a Churuya schmup for it...

Overall I enjoyed them and the more I see Kyon carrying around Churuya and Yuki carrying around Achakura, the more I want a life sized Churuya, Ashakura and Achakura plush/figure.
How about a Churuya figure, doll, or whatever with pre-recorded voice dialogue so you can hear her say her trademark line?
That'd be so cute.. a Churuya plush with a churuya button and a nyoron voicebox...
That would be all kinds of awesome. Must have accessories would have to be:
- Yukata clothes
- Summer dress and hat clothes
- Smoked Cheese that changes the depressed "nyoron" to the excited "Nyororon" when held

Why do I get the feeling these accessories would be sold separately? Also hopefully that's normal Smoked Cheese and not the Golden kind. As the golden kind doesn't really work that well.

Boy, a Halloween episode and nobody ended up in silly costumes.
ACHAKURA SMASH!
Poor Mikuru and the balloons. I'd also like to see what Yuki does with the extras.
I'd sure love to have that Churuya game.
In the meanwhile, that pack of smoked gouda is calling my name...

Come to think of it, Kyon in this has in general been a bit on the mean side.
Come to think of it? Err, I thought that was the whole point of his actions?
Another great set of shorts, Mikuru on the cross was probably my favorite moment in this batch, but the Zelda-inspired Golden Smoked Cheese and Achakura-smash are up there too.

Yes, you would be right. Hmm, perhaps I should have just not included "come to think of it" in the original post. Maybe I'll edit it later.

I have to admit I didn't realize that scene was inspired by Zelda. I figured it was just their own version of that "Lady in the lake" (or whatever) scene I've seen in some shows. Maybe I haven't played enough Zelda?

It and some other similar scenes that I've seen pop up in anime apparently are ultimately derived from a fable called The Golden Axe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Golden_Axe). In particular, I asked about it before in the Japanese language & culture forum (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=79515) because I was curious. :)

Haruhi-chan Ep. 13:
- Haha, so very Haruhi. And the black dot eyes are freaky.
- Oh Haruhi you're so creative. You think she'd know all about something so potentially occult as Halloween.
- PUMPKIN!
- Oh god, the pumpkin on Mikuru's head kinda matches with her hair. Also, who let Mikuru have a knife?
- The pumpkin became a helmet...
- I love how Tsuruya says "Harunyan~"
- Search and destroy!
- Haha, oh god, leaving that in the computer club room will give them all a heart attack.
- Great Achakura stuff. Yuki's porn machine is destroyed ;_;
Man they've really gotten into the swing of things with these, haven't they?
Haruhi-chan Ep. 14:
- Heh this one is great too. Haruhi being Haruhi. Kyon fighting back!
- But Mikuru becomes collateral damage. :sd:
- Hahaha, what? Oh poor Mikuru. XD
- ...Pooooor Mikuru.
- Ahahahaha Mikuru. XD
That's all that needs be said about this one. Pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop!
Churuya-san Ep. 7:
- o_O Opening is kinda disturbing.
- You can't dump the smoked cheese. ;_;
- Dowsing with Churuyas!
- She couldn't eat the golden smokes cheese. ;_;
- Why? Naze? XD
- You can't dodge the smokes cheese. ;_;
Cute as always.
Honestly, I think I like Kyon as an asshole better...
Or, to the very least, it's interesting when he doesn't take shit from Haruhi.
You can see the insurrection slowly growing in his eyes...

Is resetting the world tsundere?
*yeah, let's go there*
So yeah, when does the second season come out again?
I shouldn't be distracted given that these amusing shorts are, in fact, laying in its stead...
Why do they tease us so?

That right there has potential to be one of the best versions of the "death then revival" scenarios that we've seen in multiple series.

Yeah it's ultimately Greek in origin, although I doubt most Japanese people know it. Another example of a cultural borrowing that has become ingrained. :)
These are just so entertaining, they could do these forever and I'd probably never get tired of them. If they're putting that much effort into these I can't wait for season 2, having read alot of the novels I know it's going to be all kinds of awesome.

Subthreads aren't really critical for disconnected comedic shorts like this, but for the sake of not burying it impossible far down (like there the 15-16/8 subthread is now), I'm posting this as a reply to the root like the other subthreads so far.
HaruhiAchakura-chan 15:
- Achakura loves balloons!
- Yuki loves freaking her out...
- Oh god it's Shiraishi Minoru.
- lol fail on the "prefix" line.
- ...ends with explosions.
Way too short, but great.
Haruhi-chan 16:
- Cooking with Haruhi? Oh this can't end well.
- Opening a ramen container with a sword...
- Ramen cooked for 50 hours! XD
- Wahhaha, Mikuru.
- Fight Mikuru, fight!
- Fun with swords. Poor Kyon.
- "Let's toss this healthy looking stuff in. Then cook it for five days." XD
- Mikuru's second chance!
...or not.
Churuya-san 8:
- Smoked cheese or shaved ice? Why not BOTH!?
- More normal nyoro~n gags and then...
- AHAHAHAHA! "Kyon-kun, do you want to eat the bento... or me?" "Bento." "Shimatta!" XD
- Oh god she said "itchy" soooo cutely.

Maybe not, but somehow I really liked 16. Haruhi being Haruhi, Kyon distressed and snide the whole time, poor clumsy Mikuru and Yuki the swordswoman.
Somehow, it just seemed all right.

YES! She did use the balloons! *does a happy dance*
I actually really liked 15- it was classic Yuki/Achakura. I wonder if the balloon-dog will be sticking around. I laughed my head off when Yuki explained that she'd formed the air inside the balloon into the shape of a dog (instead of the balloon itself) and when she answered with what she'd filled the balloons floating Achakura with. The comedic timing on this show is just spot-on...
16 was also quite good since it involved all of the SOS-crew pretty much perfectly being themselves (or at least themselves from this incarnation...). LOL at Mikuru blocking Haruhi on-screen for half the episode crying, and Yuki carving a roughly half-scale Achakura with the sword.
Churuya 8 wasn't as good as some in the past have been, but the bento thing was funny, and at least she finally got to eat some Smochi!

Hmm... so it seems like they are continuing that vague Tsuruya vs. Mori plot from earlier, or at least they seem to hint at it. It will be amusing to see what Mori and Arakawa are up to from here.
And I just love the long cryptic explanation from Yuki. Nice to hear one again. :)
In the Churuya-san episode, seems like we have a sports festival which was somewhat amusing. It seems they replaced bread with cheese in the bread eating contest. :P (or maybe it's cheese bread?)
Wow, Haruhi-chan has a plot now?
OH, the subs were megas horrible, by the way; the fuck is going on?

I actually had to pause the motherfucker in order to read stuff more carefully (not that I don't do this a lot, but it was unnecessarily harder to do here); they need to tighten up the quality (whoever is handling it, which, if I remember discussions correctly, wasn't necessarily Kadokawa or whatever)...
ANYWAY, whoever's doing the thing should tighten stuff up.
That said, I like how the Haruhi-chan episode confirmed something that I've always suspected: the true identity of the Taxi driver that shows up to pick Koizumi and Kyon up.
(which may or may not have been in the books... but, you know... I don't read the books)

I get the feeling that as a whole Churuya-san is going to essentially end up being cute and sometimes slightly amusing. Which is probably the most we can expect from it.

I thought it was amusing... it's been used to pretty good effect throughout the show (and of course led to the funniest non-Achakura scene with Mikuri going PIIIIIIIII) so far.
It is interesting that they're continuing on with the Tsuruya/Mori rivalry. I'm cheering for Tsuruya too, but she's got her work cut out for her...
Churuya was definitely cute, but there wasn't enough smoked cheese in this ep...

Now that was a rather bizarre Christmas themed episode. What the heck is up with Haruhi's twisted view of Santa? And what was Taniguchi doing there in the first place? It was amusing that her excitement echoed through the universe, though. Ep. 20 was another pure Nagato/Achakura ep., with the balloon friend returning. Loved the fooling at the end.
The most amusing thing with Churuya-san this time was being lured and then dropped into the recycle bin on the desktop. :P Also, the return of Hokori-chan...

Haruhi-chan Ep. 17:
- HAH! What a fantastic way to start off my return to these. The Tsuruya bit was hilarious (so random!) and the Haruhi sakura > burying bodies > let's have a flower viewing party! progression cracked me up.
- Oh man Itsuki is fantastic. He plays Haruhi's second in command so well.
- Fuck yes, giving Tsuruya more focus is a brilliant idea. Especially since it lets us see more flustered Mikuru.
- Hahaha, the two second Yuki appearance for no reason at the end was far funnier than it should have been.
Damnit that was awesome.
Haruhi-chan Ep. 18:
- Haruhi! ::sparkle:: I love when they switch back to the more or less normal (but obviously not as detailed as the main show) designs.
- Oh now that's just awesome. Yuki does one of her complicated explanations and they're all just like "Hahaha I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about." Mikuru stole the scene.
- "I'm just a skydiver passing by." Ahahahaha, Mori-san <3 <3
- Kyon can't help but take credit when four hot girls are cheering him on.
- Oh man I have no clue at all where this Tsuruya vs the Organization thing is going but it's fantastic.
Mooooooore!
Churuya-san Ep. 9:
- Ohhhhh, burn. Poor Churuya. :sd:
- ...Every one of these sports festival skits is gold.
- Itsuki you bastard!
- TOO CUTE.
Easily one of the best Churuya-san eps yet.
