I'm just curious, has there been any news recently about that? I haven't seen hide nor hair of it since it left now-defunct Toonami Jetstream a full year ago.
So I guess I'm safe in assuming the whole thing's been abandoned?

This is Viz we are dealing with and they seemingly have abandoned lots of series to the chagrin of fans. I think E21 falls into that same boat as well.

I find that a great shame, considering that Eyeshield 21 revolves around football, which is an AMERICAN SPORT. How would it not appeal to american audiences?
At least there is still hope for the basketball-oriented Slam Dunk, which had recently started getting published in the U.S. and got its series being uploaded on Crunchyroll. Also, it helps that Funi's considering snagging that one.
But still, it's going to be a while before Funi thinks about this one. At the very least, the manga's getting released here in Quebec. I have no idea if it's being published in the U.S., though.

KudosForce: Viz is releasing the manga in North America, and it's already well into the 20's now.

Well, I had a hunch on that. It seems strange that nobody is willing to get the anime version at the moment.

Its also a fantastic Manga series.
I'd LOVE for Eyeshield 21 to come out at some point, but I'm very entertained by the manga for now.
Vol.24 JUST came out!

It is a fun manga to read. Hiruma is one of the best characters I've come across.

It's being streamed, subbed, on crunchyroll. They just released another batch of episodes, I think they're up to ep 12 now.

Sports anime never seem to do well in the R1 market. Off hand, I can't think of one that's really been successful. Even in a strong market, this title would be a long shot at getting licensed. It's not out of the question right now, but I think it would be much more likely when the economy improves and spending rebounds.

Hey everyone, I wasn't even aware that this series was being streamed on Crunchyroll! According to its schedule, episodes 13 and 14 will be streamed on saturday.
I guess there might be some hope left for this series after all...

Ooh.. yay! I'd watched the first 8 episodes when Crunchyroll relaunched at the beginning of January, but I'd more or less given up on checking to see if they added any more episodes since then.

The schedule for Eyeshield seems somewhat erratic, but at least CR has a pretty thorough calender up now for releases through march:

as you can see, they seem to be adding 2 episodes every monday for at least through the end of march (which is where their calender ends).
