Crunchyroll is the first and only American/non-Japanese owned company to join, as an associate member, the Association of Japanese Animations (AJA)-the Japanese industry group consisting of animation production companies that works on issues surrounding the animation industry.

An interesting development. Perhaps the Japanese industry has finally woken up to the fact that the internet genie is not only out of the bottle, but is destroying the producers' worldwide business opportunities if they don't make at least some attempt to retake control of their own properties.

The irony...it is thick.
Considering the position that CR had been in for so long and now seeing the position in power they've acquired, I suppose this is indicative of the behind-the-scenes "lovefest" Japanese companies have had for the company.
Granted, they've gone legit (finally) and it's easy to see why so many flock to them (given their userbase), but it's both surprising and odd how fast and hard their corporate support base got after the venture investment only less than a year ago.

I hope the cash CR paid to the AJA is worth the extra access this will get them.

Of course it will be. They need only to premiere some big title from the fan's perspective (like FMA, East of Eden, Pandora Hearts, Valkyria Chronicles, K-On!, Queen's Blade) or get One Piece and Bleach on their channel and they'll get to their user base goal faster.

Of those you list, the only ones I think have a snowball's chance are Pandora Hearts, Valkyria Chronicles, and Queen's Blade.
The other shows are aired on big-time rival TV stations or produced by production companies with their own global plans.
One Piece is funi owned in the US and they won't deal with CR since they have their own competing service. Plus Toei doesn't tend to double deal.
Bleach is possible, but actually I think it's more likely we'd see that on Viz's site exlusively than simulcast.

What I find most likely from Viz is to see the shows from toonami jetstream posted onto CR. Blue dragon also airs on TV Tokyo, and hikaru no go is studio pierrot, the same as naruto. Not sure about mar or PoT, and zatch bell might not have a sub version... But I think Viz could find an easy home for them on CR.

Besides a simulcast for Bleach, I'd love for CR to add Maison Ikkoku to its library.

Honestly, Viz doesn't really need CR, outside of additional exposure. They already have titles on Hulu and Joost. If Bleach gets onto CR for a simulcast deal, it would most likely be due to its Japanese broadcaster setting it up and not Viz itself (a la Naruto)

That's why I brought it up since TV Tokyo is also up on CR. Besides, downloaders (VIZ's target population) don't hang out that much on hulu and Joost.
FUNi has Last Exile but that hasn't stopped GONZO from putting it on CR also. If Toei wants to put the most recent One Piece episodes up there, FUNi would prob go along with it as it's not on their service and won't be for years and years from now.

The problem with Toei is that their published business strategy is to use internet streaming and downloading only for older catalog titles.
Just go look at their investor powerpoint presentations and also look to see what they have available in Japan online... It's all stuff that's more than 1-2 years old. So I don't think they have any plans, nor any intention, of doing simulcasts of any of their shows internationally.

If that means that they'll eventually stream Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo, then that's good enough to me. I don't really care about simulcasts anyhow.

Maison Ikkoku would be very nice. I really want them to add Katekyo Hitman Reborn
