Clannad and Princess Resurrection premieres on all Anime Network VOD cable and satellite providers yesterday/today.

Normally the newest big shows hit the SVOD providers (Cox, Charter, Rogers, Cablevision, Shaw, etc.) first, but Clannad and Princess Resurrection also premiered for Free VOD providers last night (Comcast, Time Warner, Bright House, DirecTV, etc.)

If you haven't bought the DVDs yet or are on the fence about sub-only releases, at least in most cases you check it out for free on Anime Network.

I'll watch it later on VOD today. My AT&T now has TAN.

The first two episodes of Princess Resurrection have been on since last Thursday in my area, with episode 3 going up today. Clannad just premiered today with only the first episode. ;)

Interesting, if Princess Resurrection is indeed on the "Free Zone" then I'll perhaps check out an episode or two of it. As for Clannad? My excuse is I've seen the series and I have the first collection.

All right, I got a chance to check the Free Zone. Clannad Episode 1 is up and they even have a note about it being subtitled. However no Princess Reserruction. I'm happy the former is up, but the latter would have been more beneficial to me.

Well, I decided to watch the first ep of Clannad (joy of joys, FINALLY, a subbed Anime OnDemand...)

It looks enjoyable, but I guess I'll have to watch a few episodes before I really get *into* the story, and understand exactly what's going on.

Although I'd be willing to watch it again (if only because it's a subbed show on domestic TV), I haven't a clue how Free VOD works. I have Comcast (digital even), but I almost never watch TV these days, apart from the occasional college game. The Anime Network doesn't seem to be very informative either. Is there a guide anywhere?

I am really not familiar with Comcast's VOD setup (I am a Suddenlink customer) but my friend normally goes to Channel 1 and find The Cutting Edge > Anime Network > Clannad Subtitled Ep 01.

Hope this helps, dragoon has Comcast though and can help you.

One note, the subtitles they are using for VOD are not the same ones that are on the DVD in terms of aesthetics, content wise though they are the same.

Yeah that's right. From Channel 1 or the VOD menu, then Cutting Edge, then Anime Network (it might be on page 2), then Clannad will be in that directory.

In some regions, like in Texas, they moved the Anime Network section to a new Anime directory instead of Cutting Edge (at least that was the case a few months ago).

Clannad just premiered today with only the first episode. ;)Yeah SVOD members that carry the SVOD package will be getting all episodes in its entirety before Free VOD members -- Free members depending on the cable provider will be getting several episodes (how much isn't determined yet), enough for a sneak peak of at least 1-4 episodes is the way it's normally done.

Although for Time Warner, Bright House, DirecTV all of Mahoromatic Season 1 was shown.

Not that I watch TV, but since I'm curious, what do they look like?

On my provider (don't have a camera to take a screenshot of it) they look about 40% the size of subtitles on our DVDs with different fonts, they're ligher yellow colored fonts, and look a little smoother but also a little blurrier (whether this is due to a combination of anti-aliasing or video encoding reducing the sharpness or a combination of both, I don't know), black drop shadow behind the text too.

Given the smaller font size though, they're not as easy to read as the DVD version.

They look good for what they are. I don't think anyone really will have any issues with them as far as the casual TV viewers go... those that do likely have higher standards that would have gotten the DVDs already anyway. In the past VOD production companies have had some issues with subtitles messing up the video quality, but over the last year or two, it's gotten better in that regard. The ADV/Sentai DVD video and audio quality is definitly better though, I noticed that almost immediately at first blush, most people likely won't notice it since it's par for the course for TV/Broadcast/VOD quality.

Who is your cable/satellite provider? Anime Network also needs the Zipcode too (when they check into this and call your carrier to find out why it's missing in your area). (If you prefer to keep this info private you can send it to me by PM) so I can include it in the next report (usually on Tuesday) I send in to the programming director/department.

I have not seen any missing reports yet for the week, so most seem to have gotten the updates fine so far. If you haven't done it yet or in a while, be sure to powercycle your cable/sat box too in case it needs to redownload the new db updates.

For the record, it should be Cox Cable. As for any other info perhaps I'll get to it a bit later.

Truth be told, I've never really done anything like that. Although the shows for the most part have been updating on occasion. Regardless of the fact I haven't done anything along those lines.

Clannad and Princess Resurrection ep. 2 were made available to all cable/satellite providers carrying Anime Network VOD this week, even the free providers like Time Warner, Bright House, DirecTV.

(At least for this week the free episodes have stopped for Comcast though, as Princess Resurrection ep 1-5 bundle in the Comcast Movies and Events / Anime Network PPV section). SVOD carriers are ahead on Princess Resurrection, up to ep 4 this week.
