Did anyone else hear about this? This is great news, even though I JUST bought the Italian boxset. Not sure if I'll double-dip on this, I'll have to see how the Italian release is. I wonder if Kabamaru will get the DVD treatment soon?

I'll definitely pre-order this once amazon.jp lists it. I've been wanting to see this series for awhile now.

YAAAY !!! That's a show that i have been wanting to see for an R2 release for a long time. Will definitely be getting it when it's out. I only watched few eps of it in Arabic dub about 15 years ago and i enjoyed it. Now i can finally watch the whole show in Japanese and own it on DVD too :)

Now if only Iga No Kabamaru & Kyoryu Dai Senso Aizenborg get an R2 release as well :catgirl:

This series was way overdue for a DVD release. It didn't even have a VHS release! I wonder how this'll differ from the Italian release? Here's hoping they include a clean OP/ED!

There were two series recap specials released on VHS. Did the Italian DVDs have Japanese audio?

Yes, the Italian DVDs have the Japanese audio. Italian subtitles too, I think.

Update:

Well it's a good thing Japan is releasing this box soon. I received my Italian DVDs today, and I'm extremely unhappy.

Episode previews (for certain episodes) removed, eyecatchers removed, sloppy editting on the Japanese audio track, last episode ending changed and edited around.

I pray that Toho's release does NOT have these problems.

I have these two specials on fansub vhs. This is a really fun show.

I beg someone please release Galvion though, probaly the most obscure 80's tv series of them all.

Nah, the most obscure TV series is one nobody's ever heard of ;)

Someday, someone will lose their minds and rebroadcast Galvion. Don't worry.

I got my box today.

Completely remastered, much better picture and audio than the Italian release. All episode previews, eyecatchers are included. First pressing came with a special Ranze pouch. The box houses three DVD cases (each with 2 discs), a booklet, and a collection of Shun and Ranze postcards. The only video extras are the "recapping" clipshows that were released on VHS back in '88. Those aren't remastered, and seem to be a direct VHS rip. I'm surprised a textless opening and ending wasn't included. Even the Italian DVDs had those.

Here are some comparison shots:

1 (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y38/CutyFlash/TOKIMEKI%20TONIGHT/ranzedvdcomparison3.jpg)
2 (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y38/CutyFlash/TOKIMEKI%20TONIGHT/ranzedvdcomparison.jpg)
3 (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y38/CutyFlash/TOKIMEKI%20TONIGHT/ranzedvdcomparison2.jpg)

The last shot is from the last episode ending. In the Italian DVD, Ranze's hair is blue like in the normal ending. But the Japanese release has her with brown hair. I think I actually prefer the Italian coloring for the last episode ending.

It's been a big day for me receiving packages. Aside from getting totally raped for duty and taxes, I am really happy with this box set. The "Ranze Odekake Pouch" is adorable, and the video quality on the DVDs is great (considering the age of this show). I just watched the first episode today, and can't wait to watch some more.

Any possibility you can get some PNG screenshots up?

I received mine today along with the cute Ranze pouch. Due to my busy schedule it will probably take me a while to watch the show; or rather re-watch the show in Japanese since i already watched some Eps in Arabic dub long time before.

Now, i want Iga No Kabamaru on DVD :)

That's what I'm talking about!

I'm almost done with the series. I haven't watched it from start til end since 2005, I think. It's fune comparing it to the Italian and Arabic versions.

I have some difficulty with my laptop getting the disc to play without switching the system to "Region 2", and can only do it 2 more times before it's "permanent". If and when I find a workaround, I'll be glad to post a few screen caps.

Download the trial version of AnyDVD (http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html). That should be a sufficient workaround for the purposes of getting some screencaps in the short-term.

Thank you Hayate, I was successful with the above mentioned software, and I have taken some select screencaps from disc #1.

I'm not a video quality expert, but I tried to get a good sampling of different types of scenes to best represent the encode.
