From ANN:
Tohokushinsha produces space opera set 21 years after first Yamato story
The producers of the new Yamato space opera anime project have confirmed their plans for a theatrical release this year at the Tokyo International Anime Fair 2009 on Wednesday. The project was first revealed last August when Yoshinobu Nishizaki, the producer of the original Space Battleship Yamato series and movies, announced the creation of the "Yamato Studio" in Tokyo.
Nishizaki's new project is set in 2220, or 21 years after the first Yamato story. An expanding black hole threatens Earth, so three hundred million people set forth into space as part of an emigration operation. The transport fleet is attacked, and the Yamato leads the counterstrike. 38-year-old Susumu Kodai, the hero of the first series, is now a space captain with a daughter named Miyuki with his wife Yuki (the heroine of the first series).
One of the best news that i have heard for a very long time !!! The legendary series will returns and as a sequel not a fluffy new one....thank god !
I wonder if they'll cast Kouchi Yamdera to play Susumu Kodai since he took over the character from the late Kei Tomiyama in all the Yamato video games. And maybe i am asking for too much, but i hope that Isao Sasaki will provide at least a song for this movie.
Speaking of Yamato, I have been wondering to get the Dai Yamato set (R2) but i don't know how good is the show given that it's only 5 OVAs eps. Any thoughts ?

Yeah! Hopefully this can come out over here. As long as there is a sub they can even call it Star Blazers-The Next Generation (Not a suggestion by the way) and I'll just get a double case and put it in my Yamato movie box.
Wonder if Voyager Entertainment has a Harmony Gold type deal or a first bid option. Can't imagine why they would all these years later (still would own copyright on Star Blazers name so it have to be called Yamoto right? RIGHT?) but don't understand how HG managed to get their deal either (I've read the history, just don't understand WHY the Japanese company did it the way they did ). Old school love in the currant era.

Coolness, Space BattleShip Yamato is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And as long as They give us Japanese language with subs, they can do the dub under the StarBlazers name (I think Voyager Entertainment is in good graces with The Nish... so it could happen)

Only watched the first two episodes of that one back when they came out, but that was enough for me. While the first episode started out quite promising, it decreased to a horrible production as only Venture Soft could craft Matsumoto based Anime..apparently production was stopped after the release of the third episode with official reason back then been in order to "make it more suiting the Leijiverse" and after quite some time after that the final episodes were released. Haven't checked out those and honestly never spend money on this series any more. They really should have stayed to Matsumoto's Great Yamato Manga rather than producing something that looks and feels like a Pachinko machine video collection...maybe it got better though later on.

This is the best anime news I've read in a long time. I can't wait. I have been hooked on Yamato/Starblazers for so long that I can actually recall spending $800 or something on the VHS of the series and the movies.

Nishizaki is full of crap, entire cast slaughting borringness, and fail. Yamato without Leiji Matsunoto isn't Yamato no matter what crazy Nishizaki thinks. Proof? Odin, Yamato 2520, and Arividercci Vs Yamato 2.

Here is a long trailer for the movie:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKyc7630rYo
Now that's a movie that reminds me of shows, which made me become an anime fan in the 1st place !!! :)
Again Kouchi Yamadera is replacing Kei Tomiyama for the role of Susmu Kodai just like he did in the Yamato Video Games. If i am not mistaken Kato is there also and voiced by Akira Kamiya.
Man this movie feels just like the 70s Yamato works with new animeation and CGs. Even the music as well (as far as the trailer that is), i hope retain as much as possible from the older music since it is already a masterpiece !
I can't wait to watch this one :)

This was just plainly awesome, cool cg sequences, an epic Yamato launch and all out space battles, those New Cosmo Tigers look cool....
PS: Is it me or we saw (at least a homage to) Blue Noah (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyjX5IIHr84) AKA ThunderSub in the 1st sequence?

I have been waiting for this kind of treatment of the Yamato franchise for a long time. My mouth is watering!
