Thought people might be interested in this.

If you go to iTunes and search "Anime Network" there will be a link in the "Related" box on the right hand side of the results. Click it and you'll see Anime Network has gone iTunes.

Currently they have
- Pet Shop of Horrors 1-4
- Tsukihime 1-12
- Mahoromatic 1-12
- Angelic Layer 1-26
- Saiyuki 1-25

It's about time Greenfield and Ledford joined the party. Let's see how long this will last.

It's about time. Though I do understand. ADV has been trying to get shows on iTunes since the video service first launched. But getting the Japanese rights holders and Apple on the same page isn't always easy. But with the economy in the crapper, I'm betting everyone was willing to take some smaller profits in order for more sales and exposure.

Anyway, I might pick up Pet Shop of Horrors. I was planning on getting the DVD, but may go this route instead. Now they just need to get Clannad and a few of ADV's other shows on there. I would love to have Rahxpehon and Chrono Crusade on my iPod.

Edit: TAN's page on iTunes features a lot of artwork from Best Student Council, so I imagine that show will be added sooner rather than later. ADV has been pimping that everywhere lately.... Also, when you click on the shows, the copyrights come up as Warner Brothers. Someone made a mistake somewhere...

Good news and about time ADV did this!

I inquired about this to Anime Network yesterday and right now details are slim, but they did post it on their blog on the Anime Network site yesterday: http://www.theanimenetwork.com/News/79-iTune-in-it-up.html

I have been covering ADV Films/Anime Network for a while now and have been posting recently on my own ADV/Anime Network blog: http://advnation.blogspot.com/ about a lot of expansion and things going on with ADV and Anime Network on the digital distribution front. There's a lot of great news and future developments happening there from what I can tell and what I hear. :)

Now my disappointment: I really wish ADV/Anime Network would step up their promotion and marketing. I post about news and devleopments in my ADV related blog (since I feel this is an area quite lacking from ADV lately) and certainly people in this forum discuss news... but one failing I'm seeing of ADV lately is they are not releasing press releases. When there is no press release, the chances of sites like this Mania/AoD, or ANN covering the news is reduced. ADV can not continue to rely solely on just fan support and word of mouth. How are people going to find their new offerings if they don't promote it themselves or get the big news sites to cover it? Less coverage, means less people knowing about it, and in turn less income for them.

It's a missed opportunity.

I'd say it's dependant on how well it does in this early phase. ADV/Anime Network on Xbox has done quite well, well enough for them to release a bunch of their new shows recently on it.

My personal prediction is expect Kiba on there soon... it's one of ADV's distributed series that appears to be doing well on both DVD and digital distribution and they are pushing it better in these last few months. There's a lot of legs left yet in Kiba as it's getting more popular in recent months -- especially if ADV/Anime Network decides to put it on the big free cable carriers (right now it's an exclusive to their SVOD carriers and Online Player).

Yeah, I would love to see ADV increase their marketing, but it's hardly a problem limited to them. I can't even remember the last time I saw an add or press release for an MB title. And Bandai's are few and far between as well. Right now Funimation is the only company excelling in that area.

But the awesome banners on TAN's website would look great elsewhere....

I forgot to mention, one easier way to find the ADV/Anime Network iTunes store is through this direct link: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewRoom?fcId=308199665&id=37

I covered this yesterday on my site and found out that all of the listings are complete (Pet Shop of Horrors,Tsukihime, Angelic Layer) or nearly complete in the case of Mahoromatic and Saiyuki.

I'm a bit disconcerted by the fluctuations in season pricing, but I'm glad to see that ADV finally joined the rest of the industry on iTunes.

Speaking as an editor and reporter, going from having dedicated press portals with releases, fact sheets, and press images specifically for use by reporters from the wireless industry to having to dig up a decent image that may or may not be finalized along with digging up press releases from third party sites is a drastic change and reflects the low priority that the distributors have for such things.

Viz has an internal staff that solicits press releases, but they are inconsistent as they don't announce every new product that they release or offer a dedicated page for reporters or journalists to access media to use for reporting such as related product images or dedicated pages with specifications.

I've often recommended to all of the distributors that they sign up for PRNewswire or BusinessWire in order to focus on other types of publicity, but I've seen no real effort otherwise.

This is definitely a good move by ADV. From what I understand, this has already proven beneficial for Funimation and this increases exposure for their titles. If they can continue to get more titles onto iTunes, I think it'll in turn prove to be successful for them as well.

As some have mentioned, they do need to step up a little bit on their advertising and promotion. To me, that's probably the only key thing they are missing. Going the iTunes route for digital distribution is a good sign for ADV, and it'd be great if more of the US companies can get their properties onto iTunes. It may in a sense help a little bit with DVD sales, at least in my opinion.

the copyrights come up as Warner Brothers. Someone made a mistake somewhere...

For the curious...

I too noticed this and inquired about it. The response I got was that Warner Brothers will be distributing stuff for ADV/Anime Network on iTunes, so that part is correct, but Anime Network will continue to have its own section. However, there's no official partnership beyond that aspect at this time.

Interesting, though I was wondering if that might have been the case. In a way, it kinda sucks because ADV will probably be getting a smaller slice of the profits, but it probably saves them some hassle and expense as well.

Yeah, this really good news indeed for ADV and TAN. But I really do hope that they allow some more titles to be availble soon and I agree with you Dragoon that ADV should improve thier PR department.

Still TAN on i Tunes, It's about time!

Wow Warner Bros. is getting into anime first a DVD distribution deal with Viz and now a digital distribution deal with ADV. Still glad to see ADV anime on iTunes.
