AD2009: Round 3 voting [Archive]

To start:Have yet to watch my copy of Princess Tutu and have no knowledge of Kannagi. Much easier round for me, not because of lack of depth. Alice, Aoi, Fate and Ruri are all very worthy characters. (Gets PM from Ruri "Baka"). The reason it was easier was two characters. Gunbuster was the second subbed series I ever saw (Gun Smith cats was the first) and my second, and most costly entry into the world of anime (grew up in the 80's with Battle of the Planets [G Force], Leo the lion, Mysterious Cities of Gold and Robotech come to mind, then Sci Fi's airing of Vampire hunter D, Robot Carnival and Lensman). Fell in love with Gunbuster and it never went away:beatingheart:. So a platform of "Hard work and Guts" gets the first vote. The second went to Tohru. Could not bring myself to leave her out in the cold in her tent. Bring on round 4 (Shao Kahn voice)"Fight!"

Yeah, I couldn't sleep, so I figured I'd give the early birds in Europe a fast chance at going first.

After cutting out the characters that I didn't know and didn't know well, the list ended up like this:

Round 3 wasn't as easy as round 2, but thankfully nowhere near as agonizing as round 1. The final picks:

Noriko Takaya (Gunbuster)
Aoi Sakuraba (Ai Yori Aoshi)

Noriko was a no-brainer and easily my top choice. Had a very difficult time choosing #2. Rosette Christopher was probably closest to Aoi Sakuraba, but I didn't enjoy Chrono Crusade as much as Ai Yori Aoshi, and Aoi is perfection, from a traditional standpoint. Spike, Mikuru, Nagi, Alice and Fate received some consideration.

I could see some situations where I might be interested enough to vote for two other characters, even though it hasn't happened with me so far.

Given the whole drafting order thing, I could easily see that happening myself. All it takes is two involved in the said draft drafting two of your very high level favorites. The type that are hard to deny.

Could be the way L eats sweets all the time and never gains weight. That can cause some bad feelings among people. Or the way he treated Misa. It gave off all the wrong stalker/obsessive vibes and the imprisonment thing....

I was thinking more of the way he sits and holds his cell phone. Plus for someone who's a super-genius he dresses like a slob :P.

There's a decent amount of characters that are competing for my votes in this round, but I ultimately voted for Spike Spiegal (The Cool Guy :cool:) and Tohru Honda (It's impossible not to like her). My apologies go to the characters I didn't vote for, especially Feito-chan. :cry:

It was a very tough decision, but I finally decided who to vote for. I'm not going to repeat my entire post, but focus on the final two.

Final Two
Nagi (Kannagi)
Alice Carroll (Aria)

It was an extremely tough choice between Alice and Vanilla. Both of which are secondary favorites in their respective shows. However I ended up giving Alice the edge. As for why? Even I'm not sure. Maybe I listened to her say dekai sexy dynamite too much.

The honest truth is that if I voted an hour later, I might have voted for Vanilla instead. Another after that then it would have been back to Alice. It was that close. So consider Vanilla to be the none-existent third vote that I wish I had to give.

This had to be the hardest round so far. Hopefully round 4 will be much easier. I've already narrowed it down to three maybe four characters. Whether I'll be able to cut out two of those characters easily is another story. Actually one of those four is an automatic lock and another I'm definitely leaning towards voting for her. (No one will ever figure out which two I'm talking about).

Now that I have decided on my picks, time to break down my pick six:

Me: Now we are back. This time, it is time that I revealed my opinion about round 3 of the Anime Draft 09. I am joined by two lovely girls beside me.
Nagi: Hi. I am Nagi Sanzenin.
Haruka: And I am Haruka Nogizaka.
Me: Today, the field of 20 has been narrowed down to just six and that will determine who will get my vote.
Nagi: Well, I am digging through all these fine guys and gals here.
Haruka: Wawawa. So many great people I would like to become friends with.
Me: Alright, without further ado, here are the six characters battline for my votes. First up is Aoi Sakura from the Ayako Kawasumi Fan Club. The successor to a rich family's fortune, but someone who values honesty and love more than anything.
Nagi: She reminds me a lot about my maid Maria. She is gentle and from a powerful clan. All she ever wanted to do is be with the one she loves best.
Haruka: She is a lot like me, I must say. Unlike with my family, the environment she has created is so much more welcoming.
Me: Next up, Fate Testerossa. The Black Mage who is seemingly has no will of her own until she opens up to the White Mage.
Nagi: She is a character I can really sympathize with. Doing all those bad deeds to impress her deadbeat mother. She comes from a family that resembles someone's family that is close to me. But she is a great person underneath those layers of sadness.
Haruka: I love girls like her. She is strong, but personable under the right circumstances. She may be born from a test tube, but she is still someone to like.
Me: Now onto the next character. Mikuru Asahina, the eye candy mascot of the SOS Brigade.
Nagi: Mi-Mi-Miracle. Mi-Mikurun-run. Alright, I certainly would join an anime club if such eye candy like her is around. Someone who is like Haruka right beside me. Right?
Haruka: Wawawa. Don't subject me through all that harassing that Haruhi likes to do with her. I just think Haruhi would make me go through all that if she spotted me.
Me: Next is Ruri Hoshino, the brains and the beauty of the Nadesico. The childhood prodigy that makes the ship go.
Nagi: You all must be idiots if you don't love her. There is absolutely nothing she cannot do.
Haruka: It's Akiba, but a far less clumsy girl.
Me: Less clumsy sounds just about right. Moving right along there is Spike Spiegel, the Space Cowboy and bounty hunter who is good at messing up.
Nagi: A powerful and cool Space Cowboy. Certainly is someone who is strong to be around.
Haruka: Gotta like guys like him, I guess.
Me: Finally, we have Tohru Honda, a family girl who stumbled on to someone's dark secret.
Nagi: Now there is someone to love. Such a great girl and strong at that.
Haruka: That's my type of girl.

Thanks everyone :) And thanks also to everybody who voted for Alice, it's great to think that the orange girl is a popular character. Congratulations to Spirit of the Stage also, he was hoping for big things from Sakaki and she didn't disapoint.

I'll be sure to text him a bit later to let him know where he came (he's at a convention this weekend) and also to gloat that I beat him this round :P

For some reason, I'm now extra glad I voted for her. On another note, it may only be second place. However Sakaki definitely deserves some type of reward. Just not sure what that should be. Perhaps we should let her coach decide.

Coach Fudce, are you surprised by the victory? How high were your expectations for Alice going into the round? How do you think the rest of your food girls will do in the rest of the polls?

I'm less surprised than I would be for any of my other characters, Alice is a fantastic character but is also a popular character. She has a childlike charm about her, but she also shows great maturity at times, she is just so interesting to watch, and as others have said, she's dekkai sexy dynamite!

As for the rest of my girls, I have hope they do well but I doubt that any of them will do better than Alice did.

Indeed. I think I found my leading candidate for my entry in next year's draft - and as I said before I should've used Alice as my entry for this year's draft in the first place :sd: .

Nagi did great I am really proud of her. I was expecting her to finish in the bottom three so to end up 13th is a huge success.

And for the record, he DID. :) So I immediately called him back with a string of abuse and the occasional well done. :P But yes, absolute perfect top 3 in that round with my three faves there, Alice, Sakaki and Fate (would have liked Ruri to have done a bit better as well - mainly because shockingly at Minamicon, the first cosplayer I saw once I entered the hotel was not anyone from Naruto, Bleach, FF etc, it was RURI. I may have to do a blog...)

Thanks for all those voting for Sakaki - I predicted she'd be one of two rounds where I'd do well, but my next round is one of 3 that my current position of 2nd will probably fall quite a bit. Ah well...I still need to get rid of this curse anyway so a bit of a beating will help...
