Interesting...I will listen to it and hear for myself whenever my copy arrives. But, I do have to say my expectations of the cassette mix, so far from your review, has been shattered as I thought the mix would sound old-school. Damn you marketing ploy!
Well, I figure cassette technology has to have improved somewhat over the years despite being so obsolete now, and it's not like they were recording this in 1980. So I didn't expect it to sound particularly "rough" to be honest. Maybe the actual cassette itself sounds different. I was listening to the CD version of the cassette mix, as I don't have the physical release in hand yet and don't own a cassette player anyway.

Even its second day sales would have been enough to have it at #1 on day one. ^^; Crazy.

Of course recording technologies have improved over the last 20 years. But, whoever did the recording could have re-recorded the music (unless it would have cost too much) using one microphone to capture the whole band to mimic a single track tape recorder.
I'll stop being nit-picky until I finally listen to the thing.

The music itself sounds different too, at least to my ears. Whether it was recorded with one mic or many, all at once or an instrument at a time, or whatever else, I haven't a clue. I'm not musically inclined enough to even think about such things when listening, let alone pick up on them. So yeah, when you hear it you'll be able to judge better.

Being impatient, I picked up a copy of the limited edition at Kinokuniya tonight as I needed to pick up some special ordered stuff.
The packaging is really nice small detailed touches. The whole thing is a little thicker than a normal double-cd case. You have the CD with a cover and the cassette tape all held in a nice slipcase. The cardboard cover over a full non-interrupted image taken from the cover of the album and the back insert (looks nice). The tape is shrinkwrapped and held in a cute box.
What's also interesting is that the studio mix is missing Fuwa Fuwa Time and Fude Pen Boru Pen (probably since it's on their first mini-album). Also, you get two sets of liner notes. One booklet style for the studio mix and a thinner fold-out paper for the cassette mix.
The cardboard cover is really awesome because inside has the signatures of all the girls and some really cute drawings. The spine has the phrase "This is our history." Just reading that made me really miss the girls. The tape has some cute drawings too.
I'm currently listening to the studio mix, but I listened to the cassette mix first. something was right - the recording does sound nice, but it does give the vibe that they recorded this in the club room. It does sound different and less polished than the studio mix. And, with all the intermission between songs, I feel like the cassette mix is an extension of episode 23.
I really feel like I have stepped into the club room, stumbled upon their recording, curious about "this is our history," and started to listen to their music. If I knew nothing about them, I would think they were really fun girls who enjoyed being together in a band.

I do sort of need one. I don't really have dedicated CD shelving as it is, although clearing out all my R1s freed up a lot of space to spread out the R2 collection. I could put CDs on some of the open shelves. Right now they're just in assorted large piles around my room.
I hope the cd cover for them matches with the rest, not like in season 1 where Ui and Nodoka's cover were just too plain.

I actually listen to character songs quite frequently though (read every day). It's not uncommon for me to like or even prefer songs from characters I don't care for or even hate over ones I love (for example, my favorite Shuffle character song is by Asa ^^; ). From the first round, my favorite singles were Asuza, Mugi, Ritsu, and Yui. So 2/4. But such is life.
Yeah the title is nice. But I would have rather had a song I didn't feel like pressing "skip" every time it comes up.

Awesome. What would have been even better was to sell a replica of the tape deck that was used to record their songs in episode 23.
Damnit...I was browsing the tbs shop and they're selling the t-shirts used in episode 20. OMG. Ugh that I would have to use a proxy service to get it...which I don't mind, but it would be nice to buy it from a store that ships overseas.

Yeah, something about making music with her friends, love, happiness, etc etc... the usual. It'll be Jun so it's awesome regardless.
Another great thing about the Jun CD announcement is that it practically guarantees her seiyuu's participation in the upcoming live event. I really missed her in the last one.

Clearly, you never read volume 7 of the manga. If you had you'd realize that she's a clone of Ui. If only people would be like me and read chapters that don't even exist.
In any case, what I find interesting is the price of the CD in question. The character singles for the core 5 were priced at 1300 yen and the ones for Nodoka and Ui were 1200 yen.
Note that Nodoka and Ui as far as I can tell did not have that shared song. In
the case of season 1, it was that "Let's Go" song if I remember right.
Yet this time around, Nodoka and Ui (along with Jun) are priced at 1300 yen. So I wonder if this means that this time around everyone is getting the season 2 version of that shared song.
Or maybe it just means they decided not to make Ui, Jun, and Nodoka cheaper.

I've been listening to this album non-stop during my commute to work the past week. I start with the Cassette mix and go to the studio mix and back. Hasn't gotten old yet.
Tokimeki Sugar is a great song...nice fast rhythm that works well as driving music. My 3rd fav song after U&I and Tenshi ni Fureta yo!. And, Mio doing a ballad style Fude Pen for a few seconds at the end of the song in the cassette mix was awesome...I wanna hear a longer version of that.
Anywho...after much listening to the album the past week, I still think it was a marketing ploy with the "cassette mix." The recording of it definitely has a live feel to it, but still sounds way to crisp to be something recorded by a bunch of high school students in their club room (granted, this is listening to the CD version, maybe listening to the tape might yield different results). Unless that's not what they wanted to replicate in the release, but more of a "this is what happened during the recording and here are the songs they recorded." Nonetheless, the "cassette mix" is a bundle of joy to listen to.

That's all the impression I ever got. It's got the "live" feel with the chatter in-between, the on-off of the cassette player, and the fact that the music and vocals really do sound a little different. I don't think they promised or marketed it as anything else, but maybe there were some misleading ads in Japanese that I didn't catch.

Maybe some people were expecting it to actually sound 100% realistically like it was actually recorded with an old cassette tape recorder. Personally, I'm very happy that they didn't go too far with the realism - the result would've been barely listenable.

Not for me, I was hoping that it would include a special feature. Where you're listening to the cassette mix and it ends up mimicking the sound you hear when the tape gets stuck in the player and gets screwed up.:P
In all seriousness, my main desire for the cassette version was hoping that it would effectively be in some ways like an episode 23.5 and as far as I can tell, we can treat it like that.

Agreed on the point of barely listenable.
Has anyone actually popped in the tape in and take a listen? I assume the actual music on the tape would sound a little rougher than on the CD since it is analog even though the music was most likely recorded digitally.

I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive... but is the 'cassette mix' stereo or monoraul?
I wouldn't have wanted them to record it using an ACTUAL cassette deck- but since they were apparently re-recording everything for this mix, doing the recording with all the seiyuu and the band at once in a less sterile (accoustically) room and just using one mono mic would have quite effectively captured the effect I think that they were going for. It would certainly give it a lot more of a 'live, garage-band level performance' quality...
Hopefully my copy will arrive today...

Yeah, it would be nice to get an idea. Especially for those of us that won't get the cassette. I have actually considered the idea of getting a cassette tape and recording the CD on to it. However, I realize that won't result in the same feel that you're probably meant to get.

The 'cassette mix' on CD is stereo. It might be in mono on the actual tape, though but until someone risks turning their cassette into tape salad by playing it back in an actual cassette player to confirm it, I guess we can't be sure.

If this is like any of the other band ones, it won't have anything exactly like the other CDs; you'll get instrumentals, one instrument missing instrumentals and if there are any vocal tracks, it'll be something new (the first band one had the 5 person versions of the first OP/ED; the ones labelled "Let's Music" didn't have any vocal versions).

No, it doesn't have anything unique song-wise (that one track aside)- the primary draw for it is the complete sheet music/tabs for all the songs included as well as versions without the individual instruments to practice along with.
I REALLY wish though they'd release something alone the lines of a collection of files for GarageBand or the likes with all the tracks that you can turn on and off at will so you could practice playing along with one part, or just turn on the drums and play along on another instrument. Doing that on a CD would be absurd, but on a multitrack computer format would work quite well...

Weird. Free shipping from YesAsia should be regular airmail which takes about 7-14 days (at least in the US). I remember the days when they use to ship from their California warehouse, but I guess they closed that down a few years ago.

I don't think that I'll risk putting the cassette into a player; if I even still have a player, it'd be 20 years old, and I'm too afraid that the tape would be eaten. ;_;
There has to be at least one person out there brave enough to put the cassette in a player.

Mine finally came in today! Yeah, I'm not even thinking about taking the tape out of the case (besides, my only tape player is at work).
LOVE the insert card that goes around the CD case in the box with all the doodles and signatures! It's awesome!

I'll use this sub thread to say that thanks to various factors, I'll be getting closer to having a complete collection of K-ON!(!) character singles.
I've already had Ritsu! for awhile and I have one order placed in October that has Ritsu!!. An order placed recently has the following.
Tsumugi!!
Mio!
Mio!!
Yui!
Yui!!
Azusa!
Azusa!
Sadly, I couldn't fit Tsumugi! on to the order. Same goes for Ui!, Ui!!, Nodoka!, Nodoka!!, and Jun!!.
Blame it on the fact that, the order includes Ui & I, Miracle, No Thank You, and a none K-ON!(!) CD. Hint, it's from Lucky Star and involves Kusakabe Misao.
Ok, the other reason has to do with the coupon thing. I want to combine the coupons I'll be getting together. As opposed to have one coupon expire before the other order ships.
Relax, I have plans to eventually get the other ones. Yes, I also realize that they'll probably make ones for the movie.
I've come to realize I've spent quite a bit on K-ON! and I haven't even started on the blu-ray series.

I'm really loving the split-vocalist mixes on the Cassette Mix. I have to agree that there are some of these that definitely sound better than the previous 'studio mixes' they've had... they have a more edgy, real quality to them.
I need to dig out the cassette recorder that I think I still have around though and test this out (on an old tape), but I don't think that hitting 'stop' on a deck records nearly as clearly as what they're using.... :P
I'm also still waiting for YesAsia's shipment to arrive.. it usually doesn't take this long. I had 4 orders from them in the past 2 months and they all arrive just after a week, only this time it's 1 day pass 2 weeks now...
edit: finally arrived today at exact 3 weeks after shipping day, there's no date on the postage so i don't know if they really did ship it on october 27th...

All right, I just finished listening to the Tainaka Ritsu single for K-ON!!. The first song is the more fun and the second one is more pleasant. It goes without saying I'm glad to have it.
On a side note, it took me awhile to decide where to reply to. I just went ahead and used this since it has character singles in the title and I'm not sure I need or should make a sub thread for every single character single.

Woo, got my shipment of 10 more K-ON!/! character image song CDs in, taking my K-ON! CD collection to 26 releases / 29 discs. Been listening to the ! CDs as I rip them, and there's some really good stuff in here.
As for the repeating tracks - I like Let's Go more than Come With Me!. There's a part in the former that's just totally awesome every time in every version. Come With Me is hardly bad, I just like Let's Go more.
The song that just finished was Mio's Heart Goes Boom!! which I definitely thing is one of her stronger songs. Hello Little Girl is going right now and it's a pretty interesting sound from Mio... it's not the cuteness of her HTT songs or the rocking out of her EDs, but something slower. Kinda cool. ...Oh, it just hit me. Hikasa sounds oddly like Hirano Aya in this track at times. I've had the !! disc for a little while so I haven't listened to Seishun Vibration or Soukuu no Monologue again yet tonight, though I remember liking them.
Of course I looooove Mugi, so Dear My Keys ~Kenban no Mahou~ was a great listen. Neither song on her disc is as good as Honey Sweet Tea Time, but then what could be? Second track, Humming Bird didn't grab me like Dear My Keys did but Mugi is Cute and Cute is Mugi, hence I liked it. At the moment, !!'s Diary wa Fortissimo is playing and ooh it's pretty awesome. ::stops to listen to the rest before continuing:: Then it's Yasei no Jounetsu which slows things down a little but I'm liking it. Really, I'm happy just hearing Mugi's voice no matter what.
I have to disagree with Draneor about Ui's character songs... they're great! Lovely Sister Love is totally awesome ("Suki suki, onee-chan da-i-su-ki!") and Oui! Ai Kotoba is frickin' adoooooorable. Hearing Yonenawa Madoka go "Oui!" makes my day.
Uhhh this is going to go on forever if I try to comment on everything so let me cut down my comments:
Azusa - Nice to hear her sing solo, something we never got to hear outside the character CDs. I'm a little surprised by how, ah... not "bold" but "not shy" her songs are, I guess? It's like she got in a recording booth and totally let loose singing on a day when her bandmates were goofing off too much and she was just desperate to sing.
Ritsu - Nice to hear her too, although Satou Satomi doesn't really do it for me like the other seiyuu generally go. Nice and energetic and cute though. ...Actually, Yuuzora a la Carte from !! just started and I really like it.
Nodoka - Heh, could she have a less fitting title than Cooly Hotty Tension Hi!!? Good song though, same for Prologue.
Yui - Yui is Yui, always. Giita ni Atamattake (or whatever) is actually a really good Yui song, though Sunday Siesta didn't grab me as much. Same note as Mio, I'd listened to her !! disc a little while ago already.
My brain is too jumbled up with taking in a couple dozen new songs at once so I don't know if I can pick a favorite yet. All that remains now is !!Ui, !!Nodoka, and !!JUUUUN.

I've heard all of the core 5's character songs from playing Hokago Live!, and Dear My Keys is probably my favorite out of all of them. Of Mio's, I definitely like Heart Goes Boom more than Hello Little Girl- the latter isn't a bad song, but it just really didn't grab me (and it being slower makes it a bit of a pain to play in the game :P). Ritsu's songs are always genki and brash as you'd expect, Yui's are fun (the animation in Sunday Siesta in the game is pretty funny even if I don't like the song as much...), and Azusa's are nice and energetic. Let's Go! is a lot of fun- the game uses each individual version for when you play as that character- I didn't realize it until the second time playing through the songs (went through everything first on Normal, and am now going through on Hard) but it was quite cool when I realized it.

For the real live vs. fake live, it's pretty easy to tell; there's a huge drop in musicianship and complexity  . But they are seiyuu; last concert (Let's Go) impressed me, even though it wasn't great from a purely musical standpoint. Might be harder to tell if you're there live, enraptured by the live event. :keroro:
As for the hardest instrument...well, Kotobuki Minako is cheating (she knows how to play keyboard. Wasn't her mom a piano teacher or something?). I think it's kind of a toss up between playing bass guitar left-handed (when you're not left handed) and drums. Out of all the instruments, drums can be simplified the most and still sound okay (e.g. take out a lot of the bass drum parts); OTOH, mistakes by the drummer are the most obvious ones of them all. So, Satou Satomi probably did have the hardest job of them all. Then again, she doesn't have anything to do during the non real live parts, so that was less to learn. :P

Even later to the party for this one than when I posted about the Miku 39's day concert, I think. But seeing the Come With Me BD get listed prompted me to go ahead and watch the Let's Go! concert... and it was completely amazing. There were so, so many spectacular moments.
One thing I love is how well the seiyuu fit the characters. Sure, to an extent they're expected to act out the part but it's not like the MC sections were necessarily about that, instead it came off really natural. Well, except Sanada Asami totally acting out the part, but her Sawa-chan was totally one of the highlights of the whole show so I am most certainly not complaining. I'm convinced Toyosaki hardly had to act at all to be Yui... it's such a perfect match. Hikasa was the emotional, crying one, just like Mio and it worked great. Satou is totally the hyper energetic Ricchan, Kotobuki has Mugi's composed, refined looks and attitude (blows my mind that she was only 18 at the time) and Taketatsu is completely perfect for Azunyan, being a bit short and nervous compared to the rest.
Speaking of Kotobuki, I've always known she's attractive but god, she's like a supermodel on stage there. Really stunning. Definitely the prettiest of the girls, but they're all cute. And Taketatsu's zettai ryouiki? Wow. Just... wow. I also find it a bit amusing that little Taketatsu seems to have the biggest chest in HTT. :sd: Aki is tall... really tall. For a young Japanese woman at the very least. It was a little surreal seeing "Yui" tower over "Sawa-chan".
I rather liked the character song bits, with Hikasa's, Kotobuki's and Toyosaki's being as good as you'd expect. Singing was rather more clearly not Taketatsu's or Satou's forte, but Satou's energy on stage was seriously infectious, and I always thought that character song of Azusa's was really catchy. Yonezawa did Lovely Sister Love very nicely and her "ba baba bada ba ba ba~" made me melt. But what was really impressive was how fantastically Fujitou Chika (Nodoka) sang. I almost wondered if she was lip synching, it sounded do good. I don't see that anyone else was though so I doubt they did it just for her. It bothers me that her connection with K-ON! hasn't seemed to do her any good in landing other anime roles, if she's even still looking to be in the business.
Oh and Toyosaki is an incredible MC. Seriously. If you didn't know any better when watching, you'd think she were a long, long-term industry veteran, not an inexperienced 23 year-old. She did a wonderful job keeping things fun and moving along.
The really huge "OH SHIT" moment came before the MCing that led into Yonezawa and Fujitou... and Sanada Asami completely fucking blew the roof off the place. Just utterly epic heavy metal rocking out nuttiness. She even came out in the mask and outfit from the flashback! She got easily the loudest applause too. Kinda easy to see why... "playing" the guitar with her teeth? Brilliant.
I did get a little sad when Toyosaki aid "Everyone from school is here now!", and there was no Jun. ;_; I knew she wasn't in this one though, and I do see her on the cover for Come With Me - she has character singles now after all - so I'm excited for that. "Call and response" was fun, including people bringing castanets to the concert, but above all for Sanada Asami stealing the show again. The "Day in the Keionbu" bit was cute too. Kotobuki is so hot when she talks in the Mugi voice...
Back to music with Curry and Fude Pen, but the real treat came when they played their own instruments for Stapler and Fuwafuwa. Man that got so emotional. You can't fake that kind of nervousness, tension, concentration, relief, and overwhelming emotion. I'd heard Satou banging on those drums here and there all along, even before now, but man when it was really down to them to play the whole thing live in front of 15k people, you could see how nervous they were. A lot less smiling during the song, less movement, and a lot of intense focus on their instruments. I thought they'd burn holes in them with their eyes. And it was, like, the most charming, endearing thing EVER. Seeing them try so hard - and do rather well, all things considered! - made me fall in love with them all much more.
I mean, seriously, that degree of going the extra mile (Hikasa was playing left-handed to be like Mio, even though she's right-handed!) was such an awesome gift to the crowd. And when they pulled it off, you could just see how relieved they were. And then to carry on into Fuwafuwa time, Toyosaki's voice starting to break up near the end (you can pinpoint the exact moment she got overwhelmed, the next to last "Fuwafuwa time", which then proceeded to affect everyone else), Hikasa in tears throughout (good thing they didn't pick a Mio song here, I don't think she could have done it), Satou banging away looking like she was on the brink, goddamn, Taketatsu looking super nervous and focusing intensely... it was so so moving.
Totally caught me off guard wen Kotobuki pulled out the exact same thing Mugi did in episode 12, starting the song back up solo on her keyboard, tears just streaming down her face the whole time. Amazing, totally amazing.
I thought it would be awkward to come out for the encore and go back to fake-playing, but Don't Say Lazy is definitely the kind of awesome rock song where it didn't matter. They kicked ass. They didn't have long to fully compose themselves, but somehow Hikasa got through it very nicely. And then the "surprise" second season announcement... even knowing it (hell, having seen the season!), it was great.
With the encore over they come out once more, to say thanks and sing Let's Go. But man, waterworks all over the place, and it got me too. I was moved by all of it, but two things really stood out: One was Satou talking about how the rehearsal didn't as well as she'd hoped, so se came back to the hotel and continued practicing singing in the bath. The idea of Satou being really nervous and singing in the bath - since she knows singing isn't her strength - just so she can do the best job possible, gah, makes me love her and all of them so much. The other one was Fujitou starting off very calm and Nodoka-like, but losing it after she says that K-ON! was her first anime audition, first seiyuu gig, first live concert...
And really, that's why this is so special. Maybe I'm deluding myself somewhat because it's what I want to believe, but I just can not believe that these young women could be so passionate about things they didn't truly love. Particularly when it was the first big break for almost all of them. They hadn't done a hundred of these events before, they hadn't plowed through dozens of character roles before this. I'd really like to believe that it was as special for them as it was for me.
The backstage footage extra was really cool too.
This franchise is beautiful. It just never, ever stops giving me wonderful, wonderful memories every time I engage it.

Huh? They sang all of them, the vocals weren't playback. And why would you expect the seiyuu to play the instruments? They're not musicians. At least they had a backing band playing the music live for all of the character songs.

Well, they certainly did their job, at least. I don't think there's anything wrong with being caught up in the fantasy (even if some seiyuu are, most likely, like Akira). Personally, I'll stick to 2D myself though.

The proof was in the vocal mix, in a lot of the songs they sound exactly like the mix from the cd's.
You're wrong. Do an actual direct comparison and you'll see. Besides, if they were gonna do lip syncing, you'd think they'd have done that with those of them who aren't the best singers, like Satomi. Or with Minako, who can't really sing in proper Mugi voice live.

FYI I was going to do a mass edit on the post you're quoting and I deleted it before I realise you'd quoted me.
I actually got really bored of the "Let's Go!" convert because apart from 1-2 songs they weren't actually playing the instruments, and to make it worse they didn't even sing most of them.
Ewwwww, so you're one of "those people" who nitpicks the instruments thing. EWWWWWWWWWWWW. The fact that they played any at all was pretty fantastic. And it's not like they ever tried to hide the fact that they were pretending for most of the songs.
As for not singing them, proof please.
I'd actually like to know what you mean by "Those People"? I saw it a few months ago and I haven't discussed it(let alone bash it) with anyone. I thought it was fun for the first 1-2 songs but then the novelty wore off.
I understand these girls aren't natural musicians, so the fact they could play any of the songs live in front of a massive audience did impress me.
Doesn't change my stance though. I'm not picking on these girls in particular, it's just that I watch concerts for the live musical performance as well as the spectacle involved. I'm not going to change that just because it involves an anime I enjoyed such as K-ON!.
Maybe I'm just not the intended audience for this kind of thing, since I'm not one of "those people" who's completely enamoured with all things K-ON!.

I watched a K-ON!/HTT concert so I could hear K-ON!/HTT music and see some of my favorite seiyuu, the ones responsible for bringing the characters I love to life. I mean, what could they have done otherwise? Put away the instruments and have just Toyosaki and Hikasa on stage with microphones, I guess. Which means the other girls would... what, just kinda dance around, right? Okay, so they basically did that - except the organizers stuck instruments in their hands. Which is way more fun, really, than watching them just kinda flail around per usual idol "dancing". The only other choice wold be for only the vocalists to be on stage with a microphone (a la the character songs), which would of course completely ruin what is so appealing about HTT. I totally do not want to see Don't Say Lazy with Hikasa on stage by herself.

Well, isn't it more of a seiyuu event than a concert? I totally understand your position, as someone that likes concerts but not seiyuu events. But I guess I don't understand judging it as if it were a concert because I'm not sure they intended to put on one. It's like no one seriously treats the Prince of Tennis musical as an actual musical, right? In the same manner, I don't think this was intended to be an actual concert. I would expect there to be a lot of acting--just like if it were animated. Plus, as you mentioned, it's really only targeted to the demographic that really, really likes K-On!.

I don't have a problem with the concept, I didn't say it was a waste of time or a terrible abomination. I just expected something different to what I saw. As it turns out what I ended up seeing wasn't really to my liking, and all I did is simply post what I thought of the finished product.
I don't really see why I should be vilified for what I said, just like you guys don't have to defend the fact you absolutely adored it.
It's just a simple difference of opinion and that should really be the end of it.

It's certainly a seiyuu event, given that it's an event featuring a show's seiyuu, but I suppose I don't see why it can't be both. They are the original vocalists behind the songs after all, and they were singing them in a live event. For at a minimum the character songs, the two songs the seiyuu played, and if I remember correctly also Let's Go, (i.e. 11 of 16 songs) there were real instruments on stage being played by real people, live. I'm assuming the 5 (yes, only 5 of 16!) where they held instruments but didn't really play them (but clearly sung live) were done against recordings, unless the musicians were somehow playing back stage, though I don't think so.
I think it would unambiguously be a concert if they just came out and sang - what percentage of pop idols actually play instruments? - so whether they mimed playing instruments through a couple of songs rather than just danced around or barred the non-vocalists from the stage seems almost irrelevant.
A "seiyuu concert", then.
Well, they certainly did their job, at least. I don't think there's anything wrong with being caught up in the fantasy (even if some seiyuu are, most likely, like Akira).
I'm not naive enough to think they meant everything they said (I'm sure Toyosaki does not, in fact, love all 15,000 guys in the audience), but I think it's reasonable to conclude that the show is important to them. I'd probably be as skeptical as you if they weren't so new at the time, I think.
I mean, I'd have a hard time believing, say, Koyasu claiming that Dog Days is anything more to him than just another job he forgets an hour after recording. Or that Kugimiya was terribly invested in Dragon Crisis or Hidan no Aria. Or that Noto thinks having her character's tits perpetually hanging out in Freezing is a shining highlight of her career.
Here, though, it seems totally plausible. While watching them get choked up and struggling to finish Fuwafuwa Time, I felt a lot like how I felt watching Hirano Aya at the end of Gekisou (putting aside that she's probably one of the most [justifiably] jaded [essentially ex-]seiyuu today and a top candidate for a real-life Kogami Akira). Even if it's just the emotions of seeing all the hard hard work pay off, it's more skepticism than I can muster (and I can muster a lot) to think they won't look back fondly on it all. It probably also helps that K-ON! isn't a sexually exploitative type of show, or another braindead harem pantyfest.

Fair enough. I just think there is a difference between a band performing a concert and seiyuu pretending to be a band performing a concert. To use an example, if I would have been able to attend the S.O.S. Dan event at AX a few years ago, I would not have had the same expectations as I did when I went to JAM Project's concert (or L'Arc~en~Ciel's). To me, they're just different kinds of events. Just like I don't judge character songs, which I love, by the same standards as say a rock song. I think a seiyuu, who is a mediocre singer, can still produce a good character song as long as it reflects the character she/he voices. For example, Kawasumi Ayako may not be a good singer, by any measure, but I do think she's done some good character songs. I don't expect most seiyuu to be Nana Mizuki, basically. Same thing for seiyuu concerts.
As far as the skepticism goes, chock it up to me tending towards the negative/pessimism.

I guess the main difference is that I define a concert rather simply (people playing live music for an audience - and even that might be too restrictive since I consider Miku's 39's day event a concert), while for you there's a factor involving perceived talent, or professionalism (i.e., is their primary role to be vocalists or musicians) or something like that.
I suppose I don't see this as a whole lot different from seeing Toyosaki or Kotobuki on stage in their capacity as members of Sphere, which I have no doubt would be considered a proper concert by everyone. A concert featuring the human voices behind a manufactured, fictional pop group, or a concert featuring a manufactured, non-fictional pop group. Same thing to me I suppose. But then, my favorite musician is Hatsune Miku so...

Ever since this BD came in I've been debating if I just go ahead and watch it, or wait for (hopefully) subs... I don't need subs for the songs but I really want it for the MCing and non-music segments. That was really nice for when I watched the Let's Go! concert.

Come With Me!! live concert
- First impression: damn that's a big crowd. Their many-colored glowsticks make it so surreal.
- There's a bizarrely large amount of "crowd waiting for the show to start" footage at the start of this. Nothing happens until five and a half minutes in, and the girls don't come out on stage until nearly 9 minutes in, heh.
- We lead off with GO!GO! MANIAC! and Listen!!, and of course they're awesome. I can't help but smile every time they cut to Satou banging away on the drums. She makes me so happy. And Kotobuki's smile is still to die for. She knows she's hot. Poor Ayanyan, though... she looks like hse hasn't gotten any more comfortable than she was during Let's Go!. The cameras are very, very conspicuously cutting to her the least by far. Has to be intentional. This thing is like three hours long though, makes you wonder how she's going to make it to the end. :sd:
- But she looks okay during the MCing greeting. You can do it, Ayanyan!
- Silly Kotobuki, you're the only one who didn't mention your character's name!
- ...Kotobuki and Hikasa are getting kinda close. =D
- Now it's time for "Tom-H@ck and some dude go nuts on guitars while the girls change into new outfits" time.
- When they're done it's Toyosaki with Oh My Gitah!!. Gaaah, zettai ryouiki! Delicious. And that corset is totally emphasizing her boobs. >_>
- Hahaha, her little "bye bye" as she walks off stage sounded so weird.
- Up next is a bass solo and blue lights, that means Mio! Presumably Seishun Vibration... yep, it is. Haha, Hikasa looks hot still, but I can only describe her outfit as "hooker policewoman".
- lol, I wonder if she dies a little inside every time she has to do a real-life "moe moe kyun"? Oh the things you girls do to make us happy. I appreciate it, really I do.
- Drums follow, which can only mean Suuuugar, and out come the yellow lights. As before, Satou pulls "can't really sing and wears an ugly outfit" duty but fuck I don't care she's adorable and full of energy and I love it. Drumming Shining My Life is Ricchan's song.
- Sugar is totally the seiyuu who comes off as being the most like her character. Second is probably Taketatsu but I think that's more being nervous than anything else.
- I hear a keyboard... Mugiiiiii! Diary wa Fortissimo. Not as cute a song as Dear My Keys from the season one character song discs, but I like it nonetheless. And Kotobuki is, as usual, way too hot. ...Man if we get Honey Sweet Tea Time, I am going to fucking explode in overwhelming joy. One of my favorite K-ON! songs.
- This leaves just our adorable kouhai...Azunyan! Over the Starlight. Man... Taketatsu looks damn nice. (Booobs!) Love the twintails too. And zzzzzzettai ryouiki!
- Her singing voice is adorable but, haha, she looks terrified of falling down the stairs.
- HTT character songs are done, time for more MCing. Toyosaki is such a natural, I love her playfulness.
- But there's more than just HTT! Time for the rest to join. Inlcuding, this time, JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN! First appearance for Nagata Yoriko!
- Wait, another guest...? Oh wow, what the fuck? See, this is what happens because I don't pay much attention to animation staff. I only maybe vaguely remember hearing that K-ON!'s director was a woman, and had totally forgotten by now anyway. And I certainly didn't know she was really cute!
- "Kawaii kantoku~~~" She comes bearing information about the movie we've heard, i.e. releae date, that it happens before graduation, etc.
- Back to the character songs. First up is Ui with Uki Uki New! My Way. Man, there is something about Yonezawa's voice that I can't usefully describe in words but that is just soooo damn cute.
- We follow it up with JUUUUN-CHAAAAN! It's Junjou Bomber, her character song. Yeah sure Nagata isn't the typical skinny little idol type like, well, eveyone else in the cast, but she's my beloved, beloved Jun-chan. <3 <3 <3
- Last of the character song CD girls is Nodoka. I remember being surprisingly impressed by Fujitou in the previous concert and that holds here as well. But man it's weird. It's like, hey, you're Nodoka! You were too shy to come out on stage in the show! But now you're kicking ass.
- Next up is a little picture drama kinda thing. It's the girls wandering around looking for a place to practice when they got a leak in the music room.
- They wander through the school a bit until they come to a corridor with lots of doors. They pick one and... ...pop out in the seating area of the Saitama Super Arena! Zettai ryouiki in abundance!
- "Why are there so many male students?" XD
- Oh awesome, they're going to play on that stage in the middle of the floor leel seating. I kept looking at that earlier and wondering what it was exactly.
- ...I wonder how many of the fans right up against that stage were breaking their spines trying to catch pantyshots. >_>
- The setlist on the mini stage begind with Ichigo Parfait ga Tomaranai This one has a couple really fun vocal hooks.
- Man I hope this is where they continue on to all the other songs that were new as of HTT II, because then I might get my Honey Sweet...
- Ok not yet, time for another "sweet" song - Tokimeki Sugar. This song still cracks me up. It's Mio's absurdly sugar sweet poem turned into a full song. But huh, either Pikasha was starting to forget the lyrics or she was having microphone troubles. Aki jumped in for a few lines, and it seems like things got sorted out. Heh, just think how mortified Mio would have been. At least nobody can accuse this concert of using lip synching!
- Hah, so now they each take a corner of the stage and declare one fourth of the areana their "team". Sugar-buchou claims the entire arena as hers. :sd: The advantages of being the leader!
- Mugi bribes her team with tea. XD
- Back to the music and... ::fucking explodes in overwhelming joy as promised:: HONEY SWEET TEA TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME! MUGIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Heh almost sounded like the song was getting away from her a couple times at the start but then she got on track. Almost a shame she has to be tethered to the keyboard the whole time, would have been great if she could move around - why not use the keytar? But man I'm so happy we got Mugi's song. And Kotobuki definitely seems the most highly trained in the "permanent idol smile" they're required to have plastered on their faces for nearly four hours straight here. :sd:
- Pikasha is very apt to get all up in the other girls' personal space. Hugging, holding hands, going back to back... and I approve!
- Ricchan wants tea! She's worked too hard.
- Aki says rice would be better... Gohan wa Okazu! That ends the setlist on the mini-stage.
- Okay, I laughed right the fuck out loud at a couple of the security guards having to basically throw themselves against the partitions keeping th fans back as the girls walks back out from the seating area. :sd:
::looks at runtime:: Holy crap there's two hours left. o_O
- Dark sounds... evil sounds... this can only mean...
- Oh fucking wow. The stairs split down the center. Smoke billows from an open entrance. A mobile stage rolls out, its riders silhouetted against the fog... This is fantastic. XD
- Strobe lights! Headbanging! Pyrotechnics! Maddy Candy! This time she's got a whole band, a drummer, bassist, and another guitarist... oh wait that's Asakawa Yuu, Norimi's seiyuu.
- Guitar, Christina! Bass, Della! Drums, Jane! Asakawa is looking pretty hot.
- One more for DD! LOVE. Hahahaha, the jets of flame totally sell it.
- Now for an acting segment. Ui's scipt book says I LOVE YUI on it. <3 Oh Ui, you're the best.
- There are no bananas today, Azunyan.
- Yui is debating the cutest hiragana. の or ゆ? How about you combine and reverse them and get Yuno! Yunocchiiiiiii! ...oh wrong show.
- Katakana is not cute! ふわふわ時間 > フワフワ時間1
- HAHAHAHA! "Anything becomes cute if you write it in hiragana." ::on the screen is a cutesy "Death Devil" in hiragana with a heart in the middle:: XD
- lol, じごく.
- Sawa-chan arrives with Norimi.
- This is hilarious. The girls are talking about how to make "Rock" look cuter in Hiragana, but Sawa and Norimi think they means they're trying to grapple with the deep meaning of music itself. :sd:
- Norimi finds out what they were really talking about. Norimi is going to kick their asses. =D
- ...lol they got trolled.
- Heh what was that? Asakawa kinda punches Hikasa on the shoulder while walking out. XD
- Back to music! ...after an intermission I guess.
- Ooh, they're switching over to real playing now. I wonder how things have changed since the last time. They did well enough then.
- Pure Pure Heart starts us off - a nice simple song. I certainly wouldn't expect them to try to tackle GGM or anything. =P
- I's really interesting to see the change in their faces as they have to split their focus. The idol's perma-smile is only intermittent, visible concentration increases, movement is limited, etc. I think Pikasha is going to burn a hole in her bass from staring so hard. Heh. XD
- But hey they did a good job. It's an obvious difference from the recorded version, but there were no glaring flaws at all. I mean, maybe it's just me being in the moment and all, but it definitely seems to me like they've improved a good bit.
- Next up... U&I!! This sounds like it'd be a slightly tougher song.
- Yay~ I really really really really like U&I and hey did a fine job of it. Thanks girls. <3
- Okay, instruments away, and they've got something "nostalgic" to sing? Hmm. What?
- While they're preparing that slow, instrumental version of U&I is playing... that track always makes me cry. ;_;
- Especially when they play it over still images of some of the awesome scenes of the show. <3
- Alright, next is... Yesssssssssssssss! TENSHI NI FURETA YO!!!! I was wondering when we'd get that.
- Awwwwwww, Sugar started to lose it a little on her second solo. <3 eep it together, buchou! <3
- Haha, aww, Ayanyan runs out after it's over and is sniffing a little, but the monitors say "don't cry" on them. XD
- Alright, they say time for one more. But there's way too much time left on the disc, heh. They have to do Houkago Tea Time eventually, so maybe this first closing song is Fuwafuwa?
- Yep, Fuwafuwa Time! And they're playing instruments for this one too.
Off they go, but of course...
- Encore! They come back in with No, Thank You!. They got in the same arrangements as when they actually play, but I was thinking, "no fucking way they play NTY". :sd: Of course they don't, that would be asking a bit much.
- Some MCing, with Aki making sure to insert talk of "miracles" as much as she can. I wonder what song is next? =P
- Utauyo! MIRACLE!! of course! Goddamn I love that song, so damn fun. I adore the "daisuki, daisuki, daisuki wo arigatou!" line.
- And fucking awwwwwwww, when they got to that line and 30,000 fans started singing it back Hikasa immediately started choking up and couldn't finish the last few lines. Man I can't imagine what it's liek to be on stage like that and just have such massive passionate energy being directed at you. It's got to be overwhelming. It's probably a good thing Aki is the primary front(wo)man of the band, she seems unusually good at keeping her composure throughout.
And up go the shouts of Mou ikkai! Mou ikkai! Mou ikkai!
- And of course they oblige.
- "Oops I hit my head on the mic. Tehepero!" Oh Pikasha.
- More nice MCing and then they launch into... Kagayake! GIRLS! Which of course means the final[?] song has to be Don't Say LAZY!
So what now? There's nearly 40 minutes left, heh. They have to sing Houkago Tea Time. They have to. How could they not? Plus they need to come out and do their thank yous and crying and other adorable stuff. Oh and surely they'll find Come With Me =P
- And the triple encore starts!
- Ooooh they brought everyone out!
- Awwwwww, they're doing the Sakuragaoka Girl's High High School Song. Sawa-chan is on piano! Looks like she's really playing too.
- And Pikasha is crying again. Awww you adorable little crybaby Mio. <3 <3
- Man the stage is crowded. Yui, Mio, Mugi, Ricchan, Azunyan, Jun, Ui, Nodoka, Sawa-chan, 7 backing band musicians plus 2 Death Devil members. 19 people on stage. Bring the adorable director out again too!
Now they all get to say something.
- Man... Asakawa Yuu is so damn cool. If she were an anime character, she'd be the cool, nonchalant girl that all the other girls fawn over. She's one of those veteran seiyuu who is really prolific, but I never really think about her. Yet she always puts on a good performance.
- Asakawa, Sanada and Nagata keep it quite short.
- Yonezawa goes a bit longer, and it's really nice. She reads a letter from a fan and is just all-around adorable. Don't worry Madoka, you'll be playing Ui. Not just in the movie... but you know you'll all be back for more seasons later. =D
- Taketatsu is the first one to let the tears out. Heh, oh Ayanyan, we all knew you weren't getting out of this with dry eyes.
- Kotobuki is up next, no tears. She's up there with Toyosaki in terms of keeping the emotion in check. Mugi <3
- <3 Satou makes me hnnnnnnnng so hard right here. She does the usual "it's been so wonderful working on this" but then goes on to talk about how sometimes it was really hard, and she thought she wouldn't be able to play the drums, and at times like that it was thinking of Ricchan that got her through it. Fucking AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
- Hikasa insists she won't cry. It lasts about 450 seconds. Which is about 44 seconds longer than I thought she'd last. Heh. I could awwwwwwwwwwwwww all day at these girls. She finally squeezes out what she wanted to say, then as an afterthought throws in the "please go see the movie." :sd: Heh.
- Last but not least Toyosaki Aki! Oooh, I thought I saw a hint of tears at the end but she finished just in time.
We finish with, of course, Come With Me!!. My absolute favorite part of that? Asakawa Yuu. It's like you can read the "Aren't I too old for this shit?" (in an amused, benign sort of way) on her face, and it had me cracking up.
Well that was utterly incredible. I'll need to watch the backstage stuff soon. K-ON! will never ever end. <3
Oh PS: One of Aki's thighhighs was slightly higher than the other, and now I think slightly asymmetrical zettai ryouiki is a new fetish of mine. Could not stop staring the whole time.

- There's a bizarrely large amount of "crowd waiting for the show to start" footage at the start of this.
If you're watching a pirated version, yes. ;)
On the actual BD you can select whether to view the show with or without this build-up - with the without version being the one that plays by default.

Like I've said, I was waiting for subtitles. Of course I own the BD too, but BDs aren't for watching, they're for keeping my shelves in place! Although I would be using the BD for the backstage stuff unless I can find a tl of that.

Oh, I know, I wasn't accusing you of anything. I just wanted to explain the deal with the lengthy crowd footage, that's all. :)
Subtitles have been out for a long time already, though. I'm kind of surprised you didn't watch this sooner.

Well, the one I saw initially was 68gb which is fucking insane (lern2encode argh), it's only later I saw that a much more reasonable one had a sub patch available. After that it was finding 4+ hours (including time to type comments while watching) in which to get it watched. :sd:
This one only seems to be for the main concert though. I think maybe the other one subbed the backstage... will have to check if there's subs I can pull out.

Come With Me!! Backstage Extras
- I really liked seeing the girls meeting their instruments for the first time in February 2009. And the way they all squeal when Aki strums the guitar for the first time.
- Fast-forward to February 2011, getting ready for the concert. Do wish we had gotten more of their learning process, but it's really fun seeing them prep like this.
- Heh, Tenshi ni Fureta yo even makes Taketatsu tear up during rehearsal.
- Oooh, time lapse of the stage being set up. I love stuff like that.
- Aki with the camera! I do so love Aki... she's just really really fun no matter what she's doing.
- I do love Jun's twin puff hairstyle, but the 3D Nagata Yoriko looks better with her hair down.
- Man that's quite a shot. The girls are standing in the very farthest seats from the stage and the place looks even bigger when empty.
- I have so much fun watching the girls just walk around the arena. Kotobuki always looks so refined no matter what she's doing. Even when she's wearing a face mask. Lots of face masks going on right now.
- More footage of them immediately before the concert. I love Hikasa's penchant for running through the halls to calm herself.
- And finally they all head out onto the stage. Hikasa looks like she doesn't expect to come back. She's making sure everyone knows she loves them and sounds so nervous. :sd: Love them all so much~
- Then they come back after it's all over. Otsukaresama~~~~~~!
Man, I need more... I'm already feeling intense K-ON! withdrawal knowing I've got to wait probably 9+ months for the movie. ;_; I really wish I had the time to rewatch the TV series right now.
But this concert and the backstage stuff has been a hell of a lot of fun. Every additional piece of this franchise just makes me love it more and more and more. It's so sweet and funny and heartwarming and just wonderful in every single way. Damnit, K-ON! makes me feel so good. I hope it never ends. <3

As I was watching Come With Me!! on Saturday I was thinking it'd be nice if the concerts were also available on CD.
Well what do you know, they will be. I didn't know this was planned (or maybe it wasn't announced before).
Let's Go! LE - Amazon Japan (http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B005OCSUWO) | CDJapan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=PCCG-1077)
Come With Me!! LE - Amazon Japan (http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B005OCSSJE) | CDJapan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=PCCG-1079)
Definitely getting these... I need all the K-ON! I can get while I suffer the long wait for the movie. This is definitely turning out to be one of those franchises I really love over the long-term as it gives me more and more wonderful things. If I re-did my Top 10 it'd probably be jumping ahead of everything save Haruhi and Clannad...
Edit: Looks like it comes out the same week as the Miku Party concert BD. That'll be a good week.

Plans to release them were announced a while back, but date and details weren't known until last week when TBS announced it (http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/k-on/k-on_tv/blog/201109221748.html).

We have additional information on the movie CDs.
OP: Unmei♪wa♪Endless! - 2011/12/07 - ¥1,260
ED: Singing! - 2011/12/07 - ¥1,260
OST: K-ON! The Movie Original Sound Track - 2011/12/21 - ₯3,150
OP and ED have LE and RE versions, presumably the only difference is the cover art.
I'm facing a major dilemma. I'd prefer to hear the music in the movie first. But I'm obviously going to order these ASAP. Having them and not listening for 6-9 months? That would be painful.

Not directly related to K-ON, but Hikasa Youko played the guitar during her solo song in the RO-KYU-BU live today. She looked far more comfortable with her guitar than in the K-ON live. She might be hooked on with it.

TBS posted a preview clip (http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/k-on/k-on_tv/news/news.html#201110261700) of the movie's ending song, "Singing!" (with introduction by the voice cast). Sounds stylistically similar to "NO, Thank You!" which is a very good thing IMO.

You can edit subject lines, just have to switch to the advanced text editor. It's just thread titles you can't edit without a mod edit because VB is stupid.

I am new on buying CDs from Japan. So, now I want the K-ON! CDs quite a lot, but right now the money is missing. I will probably get the CDs in 3 batches 1. CDs from 2009 2. CDs from 2010 3. CDs from 2011. Well, I checked on CD Japan and it looks like 2009 will be around 350$ with shipping (may check for Amazon JP pricing). So, I wont be able to get this now, maybe Spring or Summer 2012 for the 2009 batch, so, do you think, the CDs will be availiable at that time? Or it may be too late?
Thank you in advance

With the movie just released (oh god, people are watching the K-ON! movie right now and I'm not one of them ;__; ) and K-ON! seemingly as popular as ever, I have a feeling they'll be available for some time to come. Even if not, there may be ways to get them used, since there are so many copies floating around. The only thing I don't think you'll be able to get is Houkago Tea Time II LE. I know Amazon is sold out of that. There's a marketplace seller but those rarely ship overseas.

Ranked #4 and #5 opening day. #3 was 17, so they're less than that. I rather of expected lower sales than the TV series OP/EDs, so I'm not too surprised. Far less people would have heard them by now with the movie only coming out a few days ago.
First day sales:
Don't Say Lazy - 20,553
Kagayake - ~20,000
Fuwafuwa - ~12,000
Go Go Maniac - 25,592
Listen - 24,026
No Thank You - 28,916
Utauyo Miracle - 28,172
Pure Pure - 15,973
Gohan/U&I - 18,638
First week sales:
Don't Say Lazy - 66,910
Kagayake - 61,608
Fuwa Fuwa - 39,458
Go Go Maniac - 83,400
Listen - 76,558
No Thank You - 87,397
Utauyo Miracle - 85,140
Pure Pure - 44,230
Gohan/U&I - ~53,000
But everything is crushed as far as early sales go by by Houkago Tea Time II:
1st day - 55,325
1st week - 127,367
So movie op/ed sales might be more on par with the insert songs, though I can also see them just being less front-loaded since they're not seen by a bajillion people on TV weeks or months before going on sale.

I don't know if anyone have access to the list of the CDs of K-On! (both season), but I was wondering and wanna make sure this list is complete.
At a glance it looks complete, though I skipped the Death Devil stuff (fun live, but not my kind of thing to listen to), Band Scores (no new songs on those) and radio program discs (since, well, I wouldn't understand much of what they're saying and it's just a radio program), so if something is missing there I wouldn't know.

Ok, so those are the Band Score:

And those the radio:

TV Anime "K-On! (Keion!)" "Radi-On!" Special Vol.2 (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=PCCG-988)
There was no radio for season 2?
Well, I'm gonna skip them as well since it's quite expensive already and if there is no new track... This would make me save couple of hundreds.

I don't know if anyone have access to the list of the CDs of K-On! (both season), but I was wondering and wanna make sure this list is complete.
Looks complete to me, except the two (http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/5797/huskyfront.jpg) singles (http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/5937/hotchkissfront.jpg) that weren't made available for regular purchase (though if you have an arm and a leg you don't need, you might be able to find them second-hand).
The radio CD's do contain some material aside from the chatter. The first one has the version of "Let's Go!" where all five HTT members sing, and the second one contains a live in studio performance of Fuwa Fuwa Time and Hotchkiss (performed more or less the same way as on the "Let's Go!" event).
Ok, so those are the Band Score:
(...)
Well, I'm gonna skip them as well since it's quite expensive already and if there is no new track... This would make me save couple of hundreds.
To be precise, they don't have new songs... but they do have "new" tracks.
For season one:
The first band score CD contains the five person versions of Cagayake!GIRLS and Don't Say "Lazy" (that is, the versions with Azusa added to them), vocal-less versions of the four songs from the first HTT mini album as well as various other stuff that never made it onto any of the other released CD's (such as the instrumental Mio, Mugi and Ritsu play for Yui in the first episode, and each episode's individual guitar intro).
The second band score album contains a bunch of instrumental versions of Fuwa Fuwa Time (each one subtracting one of the instruments) as well as two instrumental versions (one normal and one minus guitar) of both songs from the first Death Devil single. It also comes with a DVD containing footage of the actual K-On musicians showing how to play Fuwa Fuwa Time.
For season two:
Let's Music 1 & 2 are pretty boring, each one containing only instrumental versions of the first OP/ED and second OP/ED, respectively. Again, there are multiple versions each subtracting one instrument.
Let's Music 3 is more interesting - Disc 1 contains the actual episode mix of Tenshi ni Fureta yo!, and the songs performed by the Azusa/Ui/Jun trio. It also contains all the songs you hear in the background in the "Summer Fest" episode, all the guitar openings for season 2 and various other pieces of music that weren't released on CD. Disc 2 contains vocal-less versions of all ten songs from the HTT2 album.
Let's Music 4 contains the TV size versions of all the OPs and EDs.
If you're collecting the K-On! manga as well, it might be worth noting that the first two band score books (from season 1) each contain one page of manga done by Kakifly just for those books.

Like I said, I could very well be mistaken. But that is what this (http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/k-on/k-on_tv/disc/cd_5.html) combined with Google Translate led me to believe. (Link shows track listing in Japanese, be careful.) Either way, I do find it curious that no one lists two versions (though CDJapan does say First Press Available - and also, oddly, that the number of discs is 1) since, well, how could there not be an LE of this?

On the official listing (http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/k-on/k-on_tv/disc/cd_5.html), it states under First Pressing: 2 discs, Special box.
The retailers only list the box as the first press extra. Since the 2nd disc looks to be in a sleeve rather than an additional case, it's possible that it'd only be included in the first pressing. I'd wait until the retailers get the new information for their listings to be certain.

Agreed, this is a special case. Unlike a TV series, where you can easily see the episode and hear the music before CD even comes out, for the vast majority of us that is not an option for a movie. I don't want to know what insert songs get played in the movie. I'm sure I'll be spoiled at some point, but the longer I put that off the better...

And the subtitle to this post is: "Or An Idea Of The Degree Of Undercounting In Relying On Oricon".
So here's the situation. Crunchyroll has posted a news story indicating that Unmei wa Endless and Singing have both been certified Gold. In Japan, that means 100,000 copies sold: http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2012/01/13-1/two-k-on-anime-movie-singles-certified-as-gold-records.
Original source is here: http://www.riaj.or.jp/data/others/gold/201112.html
Oricon, which like any sales tracking site is not and doesn't purport to be comprehensive, last reported sales as the following:
Week 5, Jan 2 ~ Jan 8
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=387043
22, 3,599 *71,436 K-On! (Movie) "Singing!"
23, 3,558 *70,477 K-On! (Movie) "Unmei♪wa♪Endless!"
So basically, it undercounted at least 30% of the real sales. That's not really a criticism of Oricon or anything, but it is a good illustration of the fact that one should realize that real sales are always going to be somewhat higher than what Oricon reports. But Oricon is still extremely important because it lets us compare releases to each other, which we can't otherwise do, because official, more comprehensive sources like this rarely disclose data. So this doesn't mean these two CDs are selling faster than other K-ON! discs, necessarily.
More importantly, it's awesome to hear both these CDs passed 100k in just a month.
Makes you wonder how much Don't Say Lazy (Oricon: over 190k) has really sold. It could easily be Platinum (250k).
(Caveat: I'm assuming RIAJ counts real sales, not units shipped or anything like that.)

Based on the RIAJ's page (http://www.riaj.or.jp/data/others/gold/index.html) detailing the statuses (Gold, Plat, etc), it means "total amount shipped since release date." They get their data from the publisher, so I'd say it's fairly accurate for the true amount shipped.

Okay, so it is shipped, not real sales. Which kind of negates most of the post! But probably only in degree, not fundamentals, I guess. I can't imagine there's shelf and warehouse space for 60,000 unsold discs of just two releases. (Right?) So while they probably haven't sold 100k, they've probably sold considerably more than 70k.

That is very likely to be true. The statuses are updated every month, so both CDs shipped 100k in December alone. They're likely sending more every week, so I wouldn't be surprised if they had sold 100k by now, but we can't track official numbers. Besides, shipped (in Japan) is the better number to go by (if we get them) as returns are quite difficult for everyone involved.

Since the TBS article says, '『きゃにめ夏祭り2012』...にて販売!' and '一般店舗での発売は予定しておりません', the K-ON! 7-inch gramophone disc box set may be going to be sold only at the event and may be not going to be sold at CD/anime shops in general.

Oh jeeze. I already own virtually all of these, so it would be totally ridiculous for me to buy this.
(I still will.)

Both of them are quite different so I don't personally find that surprising. And they may think K-On! fans don't need a break! ^^;. Or maybe something is in the air...

Ah, something else I'll have nowhere good to store thanks to the shape, like that Vocaloid BD concert box. At least it looks cute.

So I'm guessing it's basically Kara no Kyoukai BDBox dimensions?

I'll find out how big it is when I get it but KoK sized seems a good bet. I'm glad I didn't bother getting all the other cd's. I'll be selling off most of my single releases because I'm getting this, but I'm keeping the LE of HTT II with the casette tape.

Ok, I think it's actually much thicker.
Which makes perfect sense, considering 12 discs vs 8 and 2 books vs 1.

Don't know if everybody knows about this already, but the Pony Canyon website has the track list up for the Music History Box. (http://hp.ponycanyon.co.jp/pchp/cgi-bin/PCHPM.pl?TRGID=PCHP_SKH_1010&CMD=DSP&DSP_SKHBNG=201200002006&DSP_SKHKETSEQ=001) I guess it's not quite complete/final since it only lists 11 discs, but it's better than nothing.

I'm adding up 225 tracks total right now. So I guess that means assuming Discs 1-11 have their tracklists fully detailed and it's still going to be 258 tracks total then Disc 12 will be 33 tracks.

Disc 12 add
33 tracks, PS3/PSP game songs in addition to the short versions of the TV/film vocal theme songs

According to this, that super huge, super expensive K-ON! CD boxset has sold about 10k first week. That's pretty darn impressive. In terms of revenue that's as much as about 150k singles at ₯1260... and I bet that a lot of those 10k people already had bought a lot of the standalone discs too, like me. :sd:
Edit: Precise sales: 10,226.

That's definitely impressive. There is no new track or version of a song and it sell this much. Unbelievable.

Technically untrue. The game's music tracks had not been put on CD before, but they were available through that disc.

I see. Well, there was something new. Well, even thought this is truly amazing to sell that much on the first week.
