Well Funimation channel has some more shows(I really wish I had it) and there it is, Viz has Monster 100%, total confirmed, maybe even a dub, and with a tv deal, DVDs can't be too far behind.

Viz has Monster 100%, total confirmedI don't think this was ever in doubt.

Seeing mention of Honey and Clover is a good indication of progress, though. Definitely good news.

That's awesome news on Monster. I hope this means a DVD release will be coming soon.

We've known they had Monster 100% (and were dubbing it) awhile ago. They even recently annoucned plans for it "very soon". (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-02-08/viz-to-detail-monster-anime-l/change-the-world-plans). Anyway this is some-what good news. I'm glad to see that the Monster dub has been/will be completed. I'm also glad this will air on a TV station, although I am sad no one gets said station. I think it would have been better if this got on Sci-Fi or Adult Swim, because Monster needs some monster support so Viz doesn't bail on the DVD's.

I hope they air this on Comcast's Anime Selects VOD channel, so I can watch this too. Either that or I hope Funi's channel get's picked up by more cable providers. Either way I'm buying the Nana, Honey and Clover, and Monster DVD's when they come out. So glad to see Viz doing things with these titles! (although not exactly the "smartest" moves avaible, Anime Network VOD channel reaches more homes then Funi's channel/VOD channel does, and Adult Swim or Sci-Fi could have used Monster , and would have maybe made it more popular. )

I guess Viz chose Funi over Adult Swim because they wanted to be with a channel that wouldn't put it on hiatus, show it at an unreasonably late hour (some of us do go to work on Sunday morning), and/or cancel it altogether. As for Sci-Fi, aside from the random inclusion of Rave Master, isn't all the anime they show through specific companies?

Glad to see Hunter x Hunter there, it's a very underrated series and needs more exposure. I don't get the Funi channel, but I'm definitely getting the DVDs of Hunter x Hunter and Monster, probably Honey and Clover, and maybe NANA sometime down the road. Buso Renkin has had too many mixed reviews, so it'll probably be a long while before I check it out, if ever.

I'm a real Adult Swim hater, but I notice the benefits of getting this show on that channel. It would make it more well known, and hopefull increase DVD sales. Plus I'd get to see it that way :sdsmiley: . But yeah they have really screwed us in the past, so I understand Viz Media not giving over more Naruto money (well Bleach and Death Note make them good cash too) to those greedy bastards. That channel actually charges to get anime aired on it  . They'd probally pull the show due to low raitings anyway.

As for Sci-Fi channel all their shows are through Manga Ent. To get a show on that channel you have to give certain rights (online, TV) over to Manga Ent . CPM, Bandai and Tokyopop have all done this for a few series. So shows from those three companies played on that channel as well. Of course Manga Ent shows can play on that channel as well, and do play there quite often. But there's no reason Viz couldn't go to Manga Ent to get the show on that channel. Of course maybe they don't want to hand over the rights to the show to them, or they just want to handle the show on their own. It's understandble of course. But it might come back to bight them in the ass in the long one if this doesn't sell well. There's also the possibilty that Manga Ent is not interested in gtting new shows on their block right now. They still haven't re-aired the CPM shows, and have a new show from Tokyopop airing currently.

I don't get the Funimation channel unfortunately so this means nothing to me. I just want to see these series on DVD (well most notably Honey & Clover which I have been waiting for forever). But I guess it's good to get confirmation that Viz has not totally forgotten about these series.

I also think Monster could have done really well on a channel with more exposure than the Funi channel. But I guess there really isn't a good channel like that to show anime anymore since Adult Swim just isn't what it once was.

This is great news! Verizon Fios ftw! My dvr will be super busy this spring and summer! I hope this means that H&C and Monster will be getting released on dvd sometime in the near future, but I will be watching it on the Funi Channel. Maybe some of Viz's shows that are on "hiatus" will make their way onto the Funi Channel.

Anyway, I will be checking all of those out except for Buso Renkin and probably NANA since I've already preordered the dvd set.

Sci-Fi means going through manga and CN's [adult swim] is probably going to throw out what anime it has left soon. As for Anime Network VOD. . . perhaps they know something we don't. That's handled by ADV right? They haven't exactly been in the best shape for a while.

I'd rather these were streaming on Funi's site though.

^ Yeah Anime Network is owned by ADV. I think Funi's current domination of the market is what made Viz Media choose them, over ADV's sation, even though ADV's station reaches more homes, and has way more viewers.

Well I guess I will echo the sediments of everyone else. This makes sense since [adult swim] has turned into the biggest joke on the planet for anime fans and Sci-Fi's exclusive deal with Manga video. I hope that Funimation can put at least (for me) episodes of the dubbed version of Monster on the web site.

Well, Bandai also has shows on Syfy (I hate that name) so it doesn't mean that other companies can't get shows on there.

Yeah but i don't see any Funimation or Viz Media shows on there (as much as I would love them to) any time in the near future.

I agree the name spelling change to SYFY is really dumb.

Well, FUNimation has its own channel, so there's less of an actual need to get it on other channels... Though FUNimation Channel certainly needs to be available to more people.

Thankfully, I do have it and will be looking forward to Hunter X Hunter, Buso Renkin, and Monster.

I already said this a bunch of times, but I mine as well repeat it just to make it clear for everyone ;) . Just no one get mad at me for saying it again ok :P ?

Sci-Fi has a deal with Manga Ent. to air only anime by that company. But other companies can make a deal with Manga Ent. to get their shows on that channel (the deal involves signing over some of the rights of the anime like TV and online).

Other companies who's shows have been on that channel are:

Central Park Media - "Now and Then, Here and There", "M.D. Geist 1" "M.D. Geist 2", "Descendents of Darkness"

Bandai Ent. - "Gurren Lagann", "Gundam 00"

Tokyopop - "Rave Master"

Anyway I sure hope Funimation finds a way to get those shows in more homes then their linear station reaches. For the good of those shows, and me  !

I knew they had some sort of deal but I didn't know that Manga got to call the shots. I didn't know they had a 4KidsTV deal. When was that announced?

It was mentioned in the Hollywood Reporter (I believe) when SciFi renewed the block from Starz. Specifically it mentioned Starz/Manga making deals with both Bandai and Central Park. Bandai also mentioned once that they had sold the TV and digital rights to Gurren Lagan to get it on TV. Plus, all the shows that have played on AniMonday are now listed on Manga's website as licensed properties. http://www.manga.com/titles

Also, if you look at the original announcement for the block, it only mentions Starz. Link: http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/10536.html

Actually, I think the question was "when did they make a deal with 4Kids?" The article you linked to doesn't say a thing about 4Kids.

As far as I know, that hasn't ever been announced and it's very likely not something that's happened. What we know is that Rave Master was picked up but it was formerly licensed through TokyoPop and it may or may not have gone over to Funimation when TokyoPop ceased doing Anime. So just who has that licenses and how it ended up on SciFi isn't clear but 4Kids most likely wasn't involved (BTW, another rumor is that Ani Monday's only has the first 13 episodes of Rave Master to air but I've seen nothing official about that and the Sci Fi backdoor schedule doesn't seem to back it up either). Either way, Rave Master was not a real 4Kids show. I can't remember if it was on their broadcast TV block or not but even if it was it wasn't actually owned directly, at least IIRC, by 4Kids.

I believe he meant that they had a set up similar to 4Kids. 4Kids has a set time on a network, and determines the programming itself. The network only buys the block itself, but 4Kids makes the programming decisions as to what airs then. This is exactly how the block on SyFy/SciFi works. Starz gets paid for the block, but ultimately decides what airs during it. Though I'm sure SciFi could get them to pick up or drop a show if the wanted.
