I was watching Aria earlier, and I suddenly got thinking about how awesome it would be if Neo-Venezia was real and if I could go for a trip there. I suddenly snapped out of it as Aika said her line to Akari, but it got me thinking.

I wondered where I would go if I was somehow gifted an "anime world tour". A ticket to visit any ten places in the world that were somehow linked to anime. Most of what I came up with was in Japan, so I though about what non-Japanese places I could visit..

What ten places would you visit on an Anime World Tour, and why?

To make it more interesting, I'm going to add that half of your list (five places) need to be located outside Japan. I will allow fictional locations from anime as long as they are on Earth.

I only have 1. And that would be, any of the various anime worlds where 5 hot women fall in love with some boring loser, just because he was nice to them one time in the course of his boring life.

Sign me up!

edit - I guess I should add, yes, it is a slow day at work today :P

Wow ten... I don't know if I can come up with that many. Let's see:

In Japan
- Hokkaido
first would be the farm and school areas from Figure 17, and then Hakodate where Noein took place.

- Ohtori Academy (Adolescence of Utena version)
Getting lost here would be one of the happiest moments of my life. :sd:

- Angelic Layer Tournament Center
I need to be in Misaki's fan club.

- Everywhere in Kamichu!

Outside Japan
- Rome
That famous staircase whose location name eludes me at the moment, as seen in Gunslinger Girl and MariMite.

- Rothenburg, Germany
To visit Saga and Greta and snack on waffos!

- The walled village in Princess Tutu
I don't have to worry about Mr. Cat wanting to marry me, at least. ;)

- Glie
I'd be happy to help improve human/Haibane relations here.

Well, I thought of eight anyway. It's a start. :sd:

[Japan]

I'm determined to visit Hokkaido after seeing those same shows. The Tokyo of Angelic Layer would be great fun. Also CCS's Tomoeda because everyone is so friendly there. On the flip side, Bleach's Karakura would be a good place to watch some kick-ass battles (or just laugh at Don Kunoji).

[other]

After passing through Rothenburg and Glie, I'd visit the seaside town from Kiki's Delivery Service (the three look a lot alike, so they have to be close together  ). Then on to space, first to Stellvia (as it was at the end) and ending somewhere out there (orbit, the Moon, etc.) in Planetes.

Interesting idea, but unfortunatly space isn't on earth... so it can't be part of the world tour.

Non-Japan:

Midland
The pulp-serial version of Chicago from Gunsmith Cats (where everyone is a "loose cannon" and concealed carry is a requirement)
The kingdom of Honneamise
Meier Link's castle
And, of course, the postapocalyptic deserts of 199X

Japan:

Neo-Tokyo
The NERV Geofront
Lady Eboshi's ironworks
Ramen Fighter Miki's noodle shop
And, of course, the Masaki household from Tenchi Muyo!.

I know what you mean. Figure 17 is the exact reason that I "fell in love" with Hokkaido, as it were. I'd definitely like to visit someday if I ever got the chance. The Hakodate scouting videos on the Noein DVDs were a real treat too.

After passing through Rothenburg and Glie, I'd visit the seaside town from Kiki's Delivery Service (the three look a lot alike, so they have to be close together  ).

You know, I almost listed Kiki's Delivery Service too, but I couldn't remember if that town had a name or not! :sd:

I've been to many of them already (2 to go to finish the list, but I may not be able to do one):

Non-Japan locations:

1. England where Emma is set (unfortunately, there are no Victorian maid cafes there)
2. Paris where that fake Tokyo Tower is located :)
3. Hawaii
4. China
5. Moon/Mars (this may be impossible to do) :)

Japan locations:

1. Tokyo
2. Kyoto
3. Onsens
4. Mt. Fuji
5. Hokaido (visit in two months)

It's late and I can't think of them all but here's a whirl:

Japan

Furinkan High School and surrounding area: Something odd is bound to happen, maybe see a dojo, check out some restaurants...
The Hinata House-A nice quiet stay at an inn...
Mt. Akina late on a weekend night.
Cat's Eye Cafe- The one with three sisters or the one with the tall scary bald man. (Tsubasa was not on Earth...)
Can't recall if the Macross ends up in Japan or back on Macross island. And I love Sharon Apple but I'm skipping the concert. :sd:

Would walking the trail between Tokyo and Kyoto count? (product of far too many samurai films :))

Bonus-The area from Kamichu if the Macross isn't in Japan.

Non Japan
Visit the nation and tour the castle of Cagliostro.
Cursed Springs of Jusenkyo-maybe find one that would allow me to feel a bit younger...
Paris as seen through the eyes of Noir.
England as seen from the eyes of the Great Detective Holmes (and I'm taking a coat. I damn near froze to death before I bought a sweatshirt in Liverpool when I visited there before).
The German village that was the basis for the town in Snow Fairy Sugar.

Okay...I'd go see a performance at Kaleido Stage. And then maybe go old school and tour one the Mysterious Cities of Gold. :sdsmiley:

It was your Waffo blog that was one of the influences of this, but where else would you go? :p

That's one of the most awesome things ever! Tell me that was THE plaza in Sugar. It sure looks like it could be from that angle.

It is in the main Platz.

I need to put together all of my Rothenburg pictures and combine it with Sugar screenshots. That would make for an interesting blog post.

On the most recent trip, we also visited Noerdlingen, the walled city that Princess Tutu was based on, but we only stayed briefly, and my pictures turned out poorly.

I'm going to have to fire up Google Earth and check these cities out.

Was The Bear Pianist in town in Rothenburg? :sdsmiley:

In the past few years, I can honestly say that my anime viewing has really influenced my vacation choices.

Places I have already visited

Tokyo (many many different shows)
Hakodate (Noein & Lovely Complex) Photos & Videos (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/blog.php?b=1761)
Otaru (Lovely Complex - but couldn't find any Kuma Curry) Photos & Video (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/blog.php?b=1801)
Soya Misaki (Honey and Clover) - photos not posted yet

A place I haven't visited yet:

Okinawa Prefecture (GTO, Azumanga Daioh, and I'd really like to see the eagle statue on the island of Shimoji from Stratos 4)

There are more places in Japan from many more shows, but as per the OP the limit is 5. I'm slightly scared of how many I may come up with after I finally watch my Tetsuko no Tabi DVDs.

Making of list of places outside of Japan poses problems. I have traveled to other countries besides Japan, but not because of anime. Although, primarily that would be because I did that traveling before I really started watching a lot of anime, and the mental images I have of places outside of Japan are derived from other non-Japanese media, e.g.: movies, books and TV.

I visited Rome partially because of Roman Holiday (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046250/), years before the Gunslinger Girls ever appeared on the Spanish Steps. :)
I also visited India, long before I ever saw ROD.

I have to admit being tempted to visit to the city from Sugar, but visiting Germany hasn't had the same overall appeal to me that Italy and France have had.

Although I loved Victorian Romance Emma, when I finally get around to visiting the UK, I'll be more interested in visiting places I have read about in novels. However watching Emma, did make me want to visit the Crystal Palace - but sadly that is not possible.

I'll definitely say that after watching Yugo the Negotiator, I had absolutely no desire at all to visit either Pakistan or Siberia - not that I was interested in the first place though.

Red Garden is still in my backlog, but it will have to be pretty good to influence me to take the time to visit Roosevelt Island, even though I live in NYC. :)
