The Flat Chest Appreciation Thread

Anime features females of all chest sizes, and those with large chests get their moments of glory while those who are flat as a board don't seem to get talked about much (Or do they? :catgirl:). This thread was created to salute the flat chested females of anime.

Basically then, are there any flat chested female characters out there you particularly like/appreciate?

Mine are:
-Shana (Shakugan no Shana): Shana is cute, but she's also a super awesome fighter. Her tsudereness only adds to her cuteness and her love of melon bread adds a quirky dimension to her.
-Evangeline A.K. McDowell (Negima!): Eva is just awesome. Her "evil" ways make her an amusing character. She has life experience beyond those of the other characters of Negima!
-Louise (Familiar of Zero): She's tsundere to the extreme, and she's cute. I wound up liking her at the end of the first season.
-Anya Cocolova (Negima!): She has issues regarding her chest size and believes anyone with big boobs is an enemy which makes her quite hilarious.

Basically, a character with a chest size larger than Konata (the blue-haired girl on the bottom row) would probably be too big for the thread's criteria.

One really doesn't come to mind, in terms of a flat-chested character - at least right away, since most of my favourite girls at least have some chest to them.

While I haven't seen Kannagi yet, I REALLY like Nagi's look - something about her makes her look aesthetically pleasing to my eyes, but I just can't put my thumb on it.

And after more thought, I'd like to bring up Mayumi from Shuffle!. What she has behind her makes up for what she lacks in the front. And I love those eyes of hers.

Yue Ayase of Negima is a great flat-chested character. When she wears her little witch outfit over her school swimsuit, she proves you don't need breasts to be sexy.

I like Minami Iwasaki from Lucky Star. I've always liked those misunderstood characters, like Miss Sakaki from Azumanga Daioh, who seem very unapproachable on the outside but are actually very sensitive on the inside. Her concerns about her lack of breasts just makes her more adorable.

Karinka from Steel Angel Kurumi is another character who is absolutely gorgeous, but a bit over-concerned with her lack of breastage. She's a cutie with a fiery personality and very likable, even with her explosive temper.

I certainly wouldn't mind if Nagi's chest had a little more shape to them, and it wouldn't detract her attractiveness one bit. Though that's just my opinion.

Regarding Nodoka, I could swear that while they are smaller in comparison to a sizable number of her classmates, oshe actually has breasts, judging from the chapters where she's worn dresses. It's been a while since the last time I read Negima!, so I could be wrong on that. This was why I didn't mention her.

Actually, everyone in Lucky Star is drawn as flat chested the vast majority of the time. That's the art style. Even Miyuki usually looks fairly small chested unless the current joke calls attention to her breasts.

Just to be safe, though -- and to avoid confusing the categories -- I'm going to go for Nightmare mode and only list characters of legal age.

Subaru (.hack//SIGN) - Granted, she's an avatar, but from what I can tell, the "real" Subaru has a similar build.

Ichigo Morino (Onegai Teacher/Twins) - My favorite character that hasn't been listed yet. Her attitude is just awesome, but moreso in the first series. I still think the Onegai Twins novels are required reading for Ichigo fans. She doesn't appear often, but her scenes are great, and show off her personality better than those in the Twins TV series.

Elda Marker (Karin/Chibi Vampire) - Why is it that all the great petanko characters all seem to be either vampires or wavy-haired tsundere types? Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Back on topic, Elda's rather old for my taste, but she's great fun to watch.

Chika Ogiue (Genshiken) - I once read a forum discussion (not here; on one of the chans) where someone referred to Ogiue as a fujoshi exemplar. Considering that the poster was trying to cure me of my interest in two-dimensional girls, I have a hard time accepting that argument. Ogiue may be an interesting, complex character (and she's definately meant as a fujoshi-type), but she's probably a bit too simplistic to use as a reference for how real-life fujoshi actually behave.

Hazuki (Moon Phase) - A bit risky, age-wise, and sure enough, she's not only a vampire, but a tsundere, as well. She certainly doesn't buck the general character archetype that seems to go along with flat-chestedness. Neko-mimi mode is just too damn cute, though.

Yeah, I think this thread has more meaning if, as others have noted, the focus stays on girls who are of an age where they could potentially have something. If you just mention very young characters, then they're pretty much all "flat" chested simply because that's how humans (even in anime, by and large, surprisingly enough) work.

While not my favorite anymore, Deedlit was pretty much the one who first showed me how attractive a character could be with a relatively flat chest. She's quite attractive, although I'm not big on pointed ears to be honest.

Hmmm, I guess it's relative within each show's character designs what counts as "flat" or "middle". I guess Tessa would be more middle though. She's certainly got the overall figure I really love.

This is probably influenced by the types of characters I like too. For example, Mai in Popotan over Mii or Ai. Ayame in Asu no Yoichi over Ibuki, Chihaya or Kagome. Nami in Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo over Kazane, Takane, or Sakura... although Akiha does win that one since she has quite possibly the most amazing breasts in anime.

So totally flat isn't usually my figure of choice, but I tend to favor "smaller", on a relative show-by-show basis, over thee big ones.

It's definitely something I've noticed as I've watched more and more anime. Petanko characters mostly seem to be tsunderes, like Shana, or some type of supernatural being that's way older than they look, like Eva of Negima! (though I like them both so I'm not complaining). There seems to be a lack of flat chested woman who are more "normal."

I agree. The only reason I mentioned Anya Cocolova on my list was because she has issues with her "lack of development." I felt she was a special case as I haven't seen too many girls her age in anime make a fuss about their chest size in comparison to other girls. It's possible for her to have breasts develop later on as she gets older.

In my case, if a character is flat chested, I prefer them to have some kind of body figure, some kind of curves to them, especially when waist is concerned. As far as height goes, it really doesn't matter to me, though the shorter they are, the cuter I find them to be. I suppose the anime character who possesses what I find to be the ideal body type (while being flat chested) for me would be Nagi of Kannagi. She's not too tall or short (at least from what I've seen), has a nice figure, and she's got nice thighs to boot. :blush:

As far as Tessa of FMP! is concerned, I really like her but I'm not sure if she fits the thread's criteria as I can't remember how big her breasts are.

1) Shana - she lucked out becoming an immortal when she made the contract with Alastor. She's super cute and her voracious appetite for sweets is amazing.
2) Louise - for some reason, I wouldn't mind being beaten by her. Her stuttering is awesomely cute.

I think flat-chestedness and tsundere go hand-in-hand. It's another venue for the female lead character to be annoyed or hit the male-lead in a series.

In any case, it's kind of funny how the size of some girl's breasts can change depending on various factors. The angle. The scene. The plot. What they're wearing. Etc.

On a side note, I have to admit that sometimes when watching a show I'll be paying extra attention for "evidence". Usually this searching is done for girls that are not always as "obvious". Yet if you keep looking for the evidence you'll eventually find it.

Getting back to "flat chests". One problem is the relativeness of it all. You could have girl X gripe about being flat and jealous of girl Y being larger. Of course girl X is a B cup and girl Y is an D Cup... Or if you want a stronger example change it to girl X is a C Cup and girl Y is an F Cup.

Yeah, clothes can be kind of annoying sometimes. :P When removed, womens' chests tend to magically get bigger, killing any hopes of flat chested goodness. Not to mention it's really hard to tell if a female is flat chested or not when they have clothes on. An example being Saber of Fate/Stay Night. I know she showed up naked a few times in the show but I don't remember if she's small enough to qualify as being flat chested. If I based my observations when she wears clothes, especially her armor, she looks like she might be flat enough, but I don't know for sure.

If that subject ever gets it's own thread, I'll have to bring up Coco from The Melody of Oblivion. She's flat as a board for most of the show, but when the scene demands it (box of apples, anyone), she gets quite stacked and bouncy.

I'll admit, I don't think I've seen any anime shows out there where the plot demands that girls chest size magically changed from one size to another. Still, the concept sounds amusing.

It seems that anyone who had watched "Marmalade Boy", loved Meiko as well (including myself). There were 2 other girls. One was Arimi, but I don't remember the name of the other one (been such a long time since I watched the series).

Maybe it's time for a re-watch.
