Your favorite anime tomboys

Who are your favorite tomboy (or tomboy-ish) characters in anime? These are female characters who are the most masculine in a series, and they usually come off as very athletic and have the tendency to act tough around others.

My absolute favorite character who has such traits is Kanna Kirishima from the original Sakura Wars series. She definitely comes off as being someone who is aggressive and ready to pick fights with anybody who tries to mess with her (she happens to be an expert in karate). But throughout both the OVA and TV series, she will occasionally bring out her sensitive side every now and then, and it is during those moments where she comes off as very likable.

Although her loud and brash moments come off hilarious as well. :)

I'm pretty fond of Momiji Kagariya from Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko; and Makoto Kino, Sailor Jupiter.

I'm gonna go old-school here and go with Ichino Yanagida from Battle Athletes Victory. Awesome girl from Osaka. Kagura from Azumanga Daioh is pretty fun as well, but the ultimate tomboy has to be Kino from Kino's Journey. Ungodly boyish, awesome, rough and tumble, yet feminine at times, stern as nails that one.

Hmm. Probably Akira Ferrari from ARIA. While she would be upset at being characterized as a tomboy, she most certainly is strong and aggressive.

I'll always hold Sora from Digimon Seasons 1-2 as my favorite tomboy, though she does lose points for randomly choosing Matt over Tai (yes, I'm still sore :P ).

This might be stretching it a little bit, but my pick would be Satsuki Kitaoji from Strawberry 100%. She's not a total tomboy, though she definitely has qualities to her that are stereotypically attributed to boys.

Too bad video games don't really count, because there's a certain tomboy in Person 4 that I've taken quite a liking to as of late....

I'm convinced she was modeled after Ellen Ripley (from the "Alien"movies), who was also tough but sensitive (they even dress and fix their hair almost the same way).
