As some of you may already know, Geijutsuka Art design class is going to be getting an anime. A story revealed on ANN (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-12-03/ga-geijutsu-ka-art-design-class-anime-reportedly-leaked) back in December. Which makes me wonder why I can't find a thread for it. Maybe searching sucks or perhaps one was never made... Either way it just means I'll need to create the topic myself in order to say what I want to say.

The first thing I want to say is this. After reading the first volume of the manga, my interest in this anime has increased quite a bit. If you're familiar with my tastes and familiar with what Geijutsuka Art Design Class is then you can tell why my interest in the anime was already high.

The second is after reading the manga, I decided to do some browsing and discovered the anime has a trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPYxdP3B3U8) and felt like showing it off for some reason. Just in case anyone was interested. Yes, I know that trailer is a month old, but it took me awhile to notice it.

The third I guess is more of a question than anything else. Ie if anyone else has any more information about the anime. Including some idea of when it's supposed to airing. I'm hoping it will be a Summer. However I fully realize the gap between the announcement of an anime and it actually airing tends to vary quite a bit.

On a side note, if a thread already does exist and I missed it then I apologize. I tried multiple times to search for one, but could find nothing relating to it.

Edit: The old trailer link no longer works, so I had to change it. Hopefully an official site will go live soona and that will have a trailer.

Though I would have blind-watched it simply for having the word 'art' in the title, watching through the promo video for it I can say fairly definitively that I'll be watching this and quite enjoying it.

For some reason I feel like promoting the manga now and telling people to read it. That way it can tide them over while they wait for the anime. A wait with a currently undetermined period.

In any case, I get the feeling that the song playing during the trailer is likely to be the opening. At least it sounds more like an opening than an ending. It's also possible (part of) that is the opening. Granted I could be wrong though.

On a side note, I'm not 100% decided on my favorite yet as I like all five of them. However part of me is leaning towards either Miyabi or Miki. At least going based on the manga. Although seeing the girls in action with voices will either make the choice easier or harder.

It's kind of funny. My love for Sunshine Sketch is part of the reason I checked out Sketchbook. While my love for both of those is part of the reason I became interested in Geijutsuka Art Design Class.

Yes, I know that other than sharing the traits of art students and 4 Koma origins, they're different series. However for me that's part of the fun. Being able to see a different take on a theme I've grown fond of.

Finally, I was looking at the voice cast ANN provides and noticed they don't list Miyabi. However I do know that Miyabi has a nickname. Which at least in the manga is "Professor". I wonder if that's what Kyōju translates to. Still kind of funny to list a character by an untranslated nickname and not the real one...

I didn't realize that the manga was being released domestically- and since looking it up on TRSI alerted me to the fact that I'd somehow COMPLETELY overlooked the release tomorrow of the third volume of Hidamari (which is especially stupid since I skimmed through all the pre-release listings yesterday when I made my May 5/12 DVD release pre-order...) I'm going to pick it up as well.

Heh, it actually took this topic (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=92411) to remind that the manga was licensed. The fun part is it took me less than 24 hours after to place an order.

In regards to Sunshine Sketch Volume 3, I've had that on pre-order for awhile. Here's hoping that TSRI's copies of the said volume come in on time. So I can have more Sketch goodness to read.

I'd normally have had Hidamari pre-ordered, but somehow it slipped through the cracks. I've shifted recently from pre-ordering everything I want as soon as it can be pre-ordered to waiting until a week or so prior to release- too many times I've ordered a bunch of stuff and then had a sale pop up that would have saved me a good bit, so I now wait until I can be pretty sure there isn't going to be a sale on what I'm going to order before putting the order in. Unfortunately this means I have to keep track of things better- and rely on serendipity such as this to make sure the things I somehow miss get picked back up.

Well, it doesn't help that that the last Yen Press sale at TRSI was last September. That's my excuse, anyway.

The manga is fairly high on my list since I learned about it. Seems like a cross between Sketchbook and Hidamari.

That means even if the Yen Press Sale were to come up next we'd have a seven month gap. I'm not sure I could wait that long between orders. It kind of makes me glad for the standard 25% discount even more.

Granted my orders have been a mixture of Amazon and TSRI. For the record, I order the first volume of GA from Amazon. Only time will where I order the second volume from.

Of course if the anime were to get licensed by say Nozomi then I'd likely want to order it from TSRI for the heck of it. Yes, I know it hasn't started airing yet. However that's not going to stop me from making poorly disguised requests.

Granted it has its own flavor, but it does remind me a bit of both those series. Regardless I love the idea of describing this series that way. Granted I could be biased.

Kyōju does mean "professor". I remember that very well from Sailor Moon S. :) And if she was credited as her nickname in the source, then whoever translated the credits probably went with that if they were unaware of her real name.

Not interested in the manga, but since it's Yen Press I'm sure I'll buy it once I've seen the anime.

Which I will of course watch, because the last few years have proven quite clearly that cute girls + art = fantastic show.

So, my copy of the domestic release of volume 1 came in yesterday and I read through most of it. And, as expected, I'm loving it every bit as much as I figured I would- probably even a bit more than I was expecting. The Professor (Miyabi/Masa) is far and away my favorite of the cast so far, but that's probably completely unsurprising given Koga was my favorite from Sketchbook and they're probably long 'lost' siblings. The others are great though too, and I'm really looking forward to seeing this animated (even more than I was before) now.

Looking through the cast list, the only casting that seemed somewhat out-of-place to an extent was Sawashiro Miyuki as Tomokane, but that's probably largely because I've still got her younger/higher-pitched voicing from the Dorm Head in Maria+Holic most prominently in my memory (as well as Chie from Eve no Jikan and of course Puchiko) and that younger, higher-pitched voice just doesn't seem like it would be the best for the 'solves everything with the application of excessive physical strength' Tomokane. I'm sure it'll work out just fine though. I'm curious though whether they'll follow the manga fairly closely and jump right into things or try and do something of a proper introduction of the cast/story of how they met (which hasn't shown up yet at least in what I've read of the manga).

Miyabi is like the best "Professor" ever. Or maybe not, but I'm still very fond of her. The other girls are love, but I'm leaning towards her right now. As for her being the long lost sibling of Kokage? Yes, I can definitely see that.

For the record, while Kokage is not my absolute favorite in Sketchbook, she's pretty high up there. Let's just say she's one of the four I voted for in the poll I made awhile ago. The other three being Natsumi (Gasp), Asaka, and Hazuki.

In any case, the long siblings of Oomichi Miyabi and Kuga Kokage need to be be re-united. I figured the best way to do so would be having the Sketchbook manga volumes next to the GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class Manga volumes.

I have to confess that I haven't really given much thought in regards to how well each girl's seiyuu would fit into the role.

Only time will tell determine the answer to that, but I suppose it depends on what they feel is the best route to go. The main thing I'm expecting right now is for them to either gone of two routes.

Route A: Follow the strips in the same order as the manga, but maybe flesh them out a bit more. Perhaps add stuff in between them.

Route B: Take random select strips and perhaps new material in order to form episodes as it were.

In any case, I really wish the official site would show up already. The fact one hasn't shown up yet worries me a bit. The closest I've come is this link (http://mv.avex.jp/ga/), but it's hard to say if that's an actual site. Especially since it gives a 404 error. Also I'm not so sure that would be the link anyway. As I'd figure the link would be more connected to AIC itself, but I could be wrong.

'Out of place' may have been the wrong way to word that... 'not the kind of voice I imagined when reading the character in the manga' would be a more accurate way of putting it. I can see her pulling it off no doubt- I just imagined a more gruff voice for Tomokane given her nature (though admittedly having gruff nature but sounding like Puchiko/Dorm Head would be quite funny). I would probably have sooner put her as Kisaragi actually...

Of course, after watching Kugimiya as Yuuki in Saki, in reading through the manga I keep assigning her voice to Noda-Miki since they're very similar in nature. Tokunaga Ai- who is listed on ANN as voicing Noda-Miki- has been in fairly little, but having voiced Padudu in Magical Play I can definitely see her fitting the role nicely.

She's got godly range - I've heard roles of hers from all over the place as far as types of characters go. Heh, and there's some examples here (http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=74146)

In other words, there's a very good chance she'll be able to find the right voice for the character. Granted the mystery of what voice she use, we can pretend is part of the excitement of waiting. It's going to be a long wait.

The supposed official site (http://mv.avex.jp/ga/) has changed from a 404 to a 403. Does that count as an upgrade? Maybe they're planning to make the site live closer to the airing of the first episode?

On that note, according to one at the evil forums this shall air on July 6th. So rejoice as that will be the day we can bask in the glow of Oomich ~Professor~ Miyabi!

All right then, the official site (http://mv.avex.jp/ga/) is finally open. There doesn't seem to be much up yet. For now it's mainly some information that I can't read and a picture of the main cast.
