It feels like forever and a day since ADV Films sent out a press release of any kind so we're making note of it today that they're talking up their preorder side of things for the Sentai Filmworks release of Appleseed due out at the end of June 2009:
HOUSTON, May 4, 2009—Sentai Filmworks announced its forthcoming DVD release of Appleseed...

It's been ages since ADV and related companies sent out a press release. Great news that they are actively trying to break their silence again -- one can't reach consumers through word of mouth alone (I'm still shocked that they never released one for Clannad and Princess Resurrection releases) ...
Hopefully this is a sign of positive trends in the future with their new/future titles.

I am glad that ADV are releasing more new titles, especially a very good one like Appleseed. For me, since i already have Geneon's release i'll hold out for a BD release. Which i hope that ADV have the option/licesne to release it later
It's definitely a very rare press release. I wouldn't mind more willingness to talk about new/future releases and acquisitions. Regardless I will pass on Appleseed as I own the Geneon release.

This would be the ideal title for ADV/Sentai's first Blu-Ray release. I will keep my fingers crossed. If not, then I will pass since I already own the Geneon release on standard DVD.

I'd like 'em to release it on Blu-Ray, too. ^_^ I own Geneon's release, but since I'm not optimistic about ADV producing a Blu-Ray, I'll probably purchase ADV's release since I'd like a copy that doesn't suffer from audio problems. With the bad sound that it has, the movie's not watchable. ;_;

I received a follow up press release that was issued today:
June 30, 2009—Sentai Filmworks is proud to announce the return of Appleseed to DVD! The groundbreaking anime thriller, which has been out of print for several years, hits store shelves today.
Appleseed was first released in North America by Geneon Entertainment (USA) in 2005. Based on the legendary manga series by Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell, Dominion) and directed by groundbreaking filmmaker Shinji Arimaki (Bubblegum Crisis), Appleseed set a high-water mark for anime features in the 21st century.
Synopsis: Earth's last city, Olympus, rose from the ashes of a global war on the backs of Bioroids, artificial clones who make up half the city's population. Under the strict guidance of a supercomputer, humanity's last survivors enjoy an idyllic peace, but only on the surface Human terrorists within the military seek a return to power and clash with the government's ESWAT forces lead by the legendary soldier, Deunan Knute, and her boyfriend who is 75% machine. Retrieving the Appleseed will end the conflict, and Deunan alone holds its secret. The outstanding feature film based on the manga by Masamune Shirow (Ghost In the Shell), directed by Shinji Aramaki (Bubblegum Crisis), and produced by SORI (Ping Pong) features a soundtrack including Boom Boom Satelites, Paul Oakenfold, Basement Jaxx and more.

I just wish they could fix the audio on the re-release. That would be the only reason I would get a BluRay release too. IF they fix the audio... well, not to mention, since the other one is on Blu Ray, that would be the extra incentive to get both.

They did.
ADV's Janice Williams said in the Appleseed Cover thread:
Striking. I'll get the R1 (already having the UK release) if the Geneon R1 audio problem is fixed by ADV. I'd like a promise to do so from ADV before pre-ordering....
The audio is fixed. I've been watching Appleseed over and over for the past few days, so I know.
So far only one person has reported in since getting the DVD...
I watched my copy of this the other night with the English 5.1 track, and I can confirm that the bass is stronger and more natural, effects clarity and placement seems improved, and the music is no longer at an overbearing volume.
