New Mazinger Z or Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen to be more precise, will be released in Blu-ray on August 25th. First Blu-ray box will contain 9 episodes and will be 18,900yen. You get 25cm Zeus figure but you need to send in the first pressed only exchange ticket to get it.

Thanks for the news, i was expecting that the show will be released in box set format....well perhaps for a bit lower price :sd: But i am still getting this one anyway. I guess that means we should be expecting 3 sets.

Now if i can only find a way to get that Zeus figure

And here I was thinking that 2,100 yen per episode wasn't so bad... :)

Well, I guess you could subtract about 8,000 yen for that 25 cm figure it comes with, and then it's basically in line with the rest of BV's prices.

Box comes with 9 episodes, so subtracting 8000 yen means its only about 11000 yen for 9 episodes. That's not really in line with the rest of BV's prices. That would be a lot cheaper than usual BV pricing. ^^

Anyways, it's a good for Mazinger fans. I think the show is getting relatively good reviews among Mazinger fans and 2,100 yen/ep for a new series is pretty good. Though as Adachi fan, I would have appreciated Blu-ray news for Cross Game more, but that's a different story ~_~

Oh, wait, you're right.... it's like usually 2000 per ep, not 1000.... doh. Whatever, the series doesn't interest me anyway, but I bet this will sell to its intended audience well.

My only hope is that Bandai somehow releases this title in R1.

You're kidding, right? I mean, really. If you want to hope for something, hope for something that won't cause Bandai to lose oodles of money, like putting english subs on the R2 Blu-rays.

Actually putting subs would prob be a better thing to do as those in R1 are watching the title could actually buy it someday if there was no intention of this to come to R1.

GitS trilogy BD has subs IIRC. If I see no sign of it coming to R1, I can always buy the R2 when a sale appears on another site. The same with Blood: The Last Vampire anime movie.

Sorry to be the one to bring you the sad news bro, but you have a better chance of convincing BV to include a sub on this release than wishing for an R1 release. Looking on how previous Go Nagai shows like: Change Shin Getter Robo, Mazinkaizer, and New Getter Robo did with their R1 releases i wouldn't hold my breath for this one. Wait, i forgot to say that Mazinkaizer vs Anukoku Dai Shogun, Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter, and Kotetsushin Jeeg did not get licesned as well :depressed:

But this one is better than Jeeg. It even has a cool OP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9fmgFRHcyI) (the first song). It deserves to get an R1 release or subs on the R2. :(

I'm confused. Are you saying Bandai releasing the series on American Blu-ray will cause them to lose money or putting subtitles on the Japanese discs will cause them to lose money? hikaru004 seems to be wishing for the former.

Quarkboy's being sarcastic. He's most likely inferring that both options will cause Bandai to lose money.

It's sad. You see this title that's screaming BD. You're in R1. No subs. Ice cube chance in <bleep> of an R1 release. You think, "Why again are we in the same region?".

I meant that putting subs on the R2 wouldn't cost Bandai much money, whereas manufacturing and distributing R1 blu-rays of this show would.

We're talking like $5000 per disc just to buy the blu ray license, let alone all the other costs of actually replicating and shipping discs. Compared to paying _maybe_ $5000 to get the entire series translated and slapping those subs on the R2 blu rays.

Forgive my lack of knowledge, what's this "blu-ray license"?

Well, that's not really an accurate term... It's just that you have to pay licensing fees for things like the encryption scheme, and basically a tithe to Sony just to even replicate the things. The general word on the street is that it comes to anywhere between 5K and 10K per disc you want to author.

Doesn't look like it costs that much per title to me but I only scanned through the page and there's a lot of terms I'm not familiar with.

Notice that the price on AACS Encryption, BD-ROM watermark and other needed licenses aren't mentioned on that site. They're just talking about one-time fees a studio would have to pay just to be able to produce a title, which does indeed costs a few thousand dollars just to master after all applicable license fees.

Not to mention replication cost is substantially higher (particularly on small orders) on BD versus DVD, despite both having a fairly similar expected retail price.

Well, whatever the initial cost may be there are quite a few independent titles out there that seem like they wouldn't sell very much, even compared to anime. Stuff like fireplace and aquarium BDs, that 20-pack of B-movies, etc.

Although not sold directly by Amazon, only fulfilled by them. So it might require using Tenso to actually get it at that price, depending on whether or not the actual seller will allow Amazon to ship it to non-Japan addresses.

Sorry, wasn't assuming that you were, I was also just making an observation for anyone who might consider it at that price. :)

There is also a cheaper official Taiwanese release (mentioned in another thread). Which can found at Playasia for those who are thinking about buying the show.
