Post your favourite music from video games.

I loved Tekken 3's soundtrack.

My favourite song on that game. Jin and Lei's theme were pretty catchy too.

Seriously, too many to list. Just three that come to mind right now are the Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and Alone in the Dark (2008) soundtracks.

Space Channel 5. And if I didn't already totally win the thread, The World Ends With You. … What? We need to get serious? Final Fantasy Tactics.

Actually, I don't get into video game soundtracks as much as I once did. But I do enjoy a few game composers. Yôko Shimomura did a fabulous job on Parasite Eve and Legend of Mana. Mitsuda's Chrono Cross soundtrack is the only part of that game that's worth a damn. Meanwhile, I did add the orchestra version of "Aeris' theme" to my rotating playlist because it's gorgeous.

I actually found the TWEWY soundtrack to be fairly monotonous outside a few great tracks (whose names escape me at the moment). As for Aeris' theme, I'd probably like it better if it wasn't heavily influenced by Celes' theme (seriously, both songs have the same intro. It's uncanny), a far better song.

There's just way too much to list and decide between. That being said for me, I can be rather fond of music that fits well with where it's used in the game. Perhaps sometime later I'll come up with a list or maybe not.

There's just something about The Witcher's OST that has bewitched me. Before then...hmm...I guess maybe the Ys soundtracks. In general I'm bigger on particular tracks than entire soundtracks since there are often blech tracks, like with Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (which I found stellar other than a few tracks).

I don't tend to get too involved in game OSTs for financial reasons (most don't get local releases, so legitimate releases go for ~$35 each). While I like a lot of soundtracks as I play the games, I don't have that much money I want to throw at imported soundtracks.

Oh god, where to start...

Well, right off the bat I can say that any game by Technosoft/Tecno Soft (including the famous Thunder Force series) has great music. Hyakutaro Tsukumo did music for some of their later games and the synth-rock composition is amazing.

Also, anything composed by Manabu Namiki is great. He did music for Battle Garegga and a few Cave games (Ketsui, Dodonpachi DOJ, Mushihime-sama)

The Gradius series has some great tracks, like the familiar boss theme "The Aircraft Carrier" and "Burning Heat" from the first stage of Gradius II. Gradius V's soundtrack is GODLY mainly because Hitoshi Sakimoto worked on it.

Yuzo Koshiro's stuff is great too, love his Wangan Midnight music.

Lots to list, but I'll stick to all time favs:

Yasunori Mitsuda
- Chrono Trigger
- Chrono Cross

Hitoshi Sakimoto
- Final Fantasy Tactics
- Valkyria Chronicles

Nobuo Uematsu
- Final Fantasy VI
- Final Fantasy VII

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few but those immediately jumped to mind. There are a couple of other composers whose names I don't have committed to memory with work I really like. I imported the soundtracks for FFT and Chrono Cross. In the case of the latter they're the only discs with the words Chrono Cross on them that still get used so I'd say that was a good call.

Wow, great taste man :) A few of my favourites off the top of my head would be:

Thunderforce VI - ruined green (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYbztuII3iY)
Okami - shinshuu plains (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Zq6MhBTK3o) (I regularly just stick this on loop as background music, so amazing and the OST to the whole game is jaw-dropping really)
Madworld - ain't that funny (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JULh7inCnbk)
Dodonpachi - colored rainbow (no Youtube link)
Bionic Commando Rearmed - main theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91wTtZ2Qg0k)
Bionic Commando Rearmed - leap of faith (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntyxQbRTPzY)
Rhythm Tengoku Gold - remix 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTbez--VsJA) (this is my ringtone atm :))
Streets of Rage OST's
Outrun OST
Final Fantasy VII OST

And, as with most others, loads and loads of others.

The Shadow Hearts trilogy had amazing soundtracks.

Also, Final Fantasy X. :)

A current favorite is Lost Odyssey. A lot of the same pieces get reused (mostly in the dream sequences), but it's a great soundtrack. Nobuo Umetsu really impressed me with it.

Even though I haven't listened to many, I love everything Motoi Sakuraba has composed. Especially the battle themes from the Tales series and Eternal Sonata. Just a couple that stand out: Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0bKBi4Yx4E&feature=related) and here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkt5VdoB6lA&feature=PlayList&p=5ADCE8057E3E33AD&index=4).

And themes from a few different games.

For Mario there are many to choose from, but I'll go with two:
Airship theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFGYwKpETlc&feature=PlayList&p=B65199E6622179CF&index=21)
Road to Bowser (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Sn9AimocZ4&feature=PlayList&p=9ECF284414E8D39E&index=27)

Pokemon oh lord:
Team Galaxy Battle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGMf-72v7bo)
Legendary Trio (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmgTFV5AOh8&feature=related)
Gym theme (out of all the battle themes, I cannot find the main theme)

Sakura's Street Fighter Alpha 2 theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHzbjJGuHMk)
M. Bison's Brave or Grave (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfZx0WSFbPw&feature=related)
Morrigan's theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCtzZ-kDmg0) (Tatsunoko vs. Capcom version)
Mega Man X4 Boss theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWIJiiDCvbw&feature=channel)
Spirit Temple (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-jT6T59rYw)

I think I'll end it here.

Have you heard his work in the under-apreciated Baten Kaitos games? It's very good, especially in Baten Kaitos Origins.

Never played the franchise. Though I assume he performed some epic tunes in those games.

EDIT: Especially battle/boss themes. I tend to love those over calm themes.

Yep, they're very good in those games. In fact, apparently Sakuraba thought the same thing because he ripped off his own work in Eternal Sonata with those battle themes.

All of the music in the Raiden series is also pretty good. Raiden IV in particular has awesome remixes of Raiden II's music.

After getting into a further discussion about Motoi Sakuraba, it occurred to me that he did some tracks for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. And to be honest, I'm only finding this out now because at the time I didn't really care who did what. So I'll list the ones he worked on and what I think.

Menu (Super Smash Bros. Melee)-Really nice mix. Can't say I'm surprised to find out he worked on it

Airship Theme (Super Mario Bros. 3)-One of my favorites. Just finding this out now is a plus.

Jungle Level Ver.2-Fast and edgy. I like it more now.

Gourmet Race-Even faster and edgy. It's cool, though I prefer the Melee version of this theme.

Victory Road-HELL FUCKING YES!!! While scrolling through the list, deep down I was hoping he did a Pokemon theme. And to find out it was one of my favorite themes makes it even better. Sure the original wasn't aggressive, but this one still kicks ass.

Mario Tennis/Mario Golf-I never took the time to listened to this. Giving it a chance now it's quite peaceful and it could easily find it's way into a Tales game. Then again I haven't played these games since IIRC, got a Gamecube at launch.

Battle Scene/Final Boss (Golden Sun)-Liked it then, love it now. If the rumor about Golden Sun 3 is true, Nintendo should get this guy to do the soundtrack. But since he seems to have better ties with Banco, it doesn't look like it.

Guess he's a fan of Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Pokemon, and Golden Sun.
