In Summary:
In a way, I still don’t know what Baccano is all about. Well, I know what pieces of it are about and I’ve found some storylines to latch onto and enjoy more than others. This set of episodes adds more to the general chaos of the show and there’s a lot to like, but I still don’t know how it all fits together and I’ll admit to being overwhelmed by the cast when combined with the shifting time periods it takes place in. I really feel conflicted about this show overall because there’s so much I like but it lacks something to really unify it. I continue to hold out hope that it’s a show that will play out better in marathon form or after seeing how it is all resolved. It’s got a great quality about it, but I’m still feeling the same with the third volume as I did the first.

I watched this last week along with Claymore and Darker than BLACK. This volume is quite entertaining as the previous two volumes. I do agree with the notion "In a way, I still don’t know what Baccano is all about." I'm really looking forward to the last volume coming out next month. Once I watched that volume, I think I will try to view whole series one more time. With all the different things going on, I'm sure I missed some stuff along the line.

I am too lazy to research this at the moment, but could someone shed some light on the episode distribution on the DVDs. From the runtime it looks like the show should be 12 episodes, but I know there are 16. Are the 4 extra episodes in the extras section or something so they don't count towards the regular runtime?

It's 13 episodes plus 3 OVA episodes.

4/4/4/4 = 16 episodes.

The next and final volume will finish off the series.

The 3 OVA episodes will be episodes 14-16 on the last disc.

I liked the first vol but put 2 and 3 on the back burner until last week. I enjoyed them and they fill in some questions, but I'm not sure if it will be enough that the one TV ep on disc 4 will be able to completely mesh the story for me. But then again, that could be what the OVA's are for. I should know by next week as my copy of 4 has shipped out.
