Cool. It would have been nice to see KyoAni work on the show as supposed to Aniplex. Still, I've been enjoying Clannad so far and I've heard lots of good things about Key's works in general so this is definitely something to look forward to. However, information about the show itself (at least info that's in English) seems very scare at this point so there's no way of telling what this anime is going to be about.

No, there's also the first Kanon-anime made by Toei. Although technically, this is less of a "Key-anime" and more of an "Anime written by Jun Maeda, with characters designed by the designer from Little Busters".
Anyway, seeing how I'm a huge fan of just about everything Jun Maeda has done, I'm definitely gonna watch this series.

Well, Aniplex is the publisher as opposed to an actual studio, so the actual studio that's animating it is still completely up in the air. It'd be kind of amusing to see Yutaka Yamamoto/A1-Pictures tackle it, though.

Oh, right. Toei did the first Kanon.
And those Air and Clannad movies.
There was a lot of speculation about what this was when it first leaked out. Since Re-Write is so new the thought was it must be something other than a game. Looks like that speculation was right. I cannot begin to describe how excited I am to see a direct to anime story with Jun Maeda heading up the creative force behind it. I really hope he is doing the soundtrack too.
Aniplex better be generous with the budget for this show. I'm cautiously optimistic about the whole idea of people other than Kyoto Animation doing Key stories. Whenever KyoAni wants to work on other projects it just means we'll be waiting a long time before getting to see a new Key adaptation. Now this is no longer true, though it remains to be seen if the quality and overall "feel" of the show that makes Key stuff feel like.... well, Key stuff will remain intact through the work of a different studio.

It'll be interesting to see what animation studio gets this, Aniplex not being an animation production studio after all. Saying they're doing this would be sort of like saying Pony Canyon or whoever "did" Clannad, wouldn't it?
Even if it's not quite a "Key" story, which would help explain why I've never heard of it, Maeda being behind it makes it a must watch.
I'll be fine if it's not KyoAni animating it, though that'd of course be best. They have so much else to do anyway, and they if they don't go back to Key until a Little Busters anime I won't complain. I'll have to wait until I get home to check the images and such out.
Also that promo-video is...unenlightening.
You can say that again. Word of warning for anybody who hasn't watched it yet: don't waste your 30 seconds. No visuals, just some text.
I realized after I starting playing it that this isn't the first time I've seen this "promo" video either.

People were making fun of this back when Angel Beats! was announced last April. But it looks like instead of a game, they intend to make an anime? The original announcement was unclear about what exactly it was. Other than an off-colored Haruhi. :)

Well, with Aniplex the only they we can infer is the chance of A-1 Pictures being the animation studio, since they're a subsidiary of Aniplex and undoubtedly would be one of options (though not the only one).

I saw that original illustration by Na-Ga a little while back. I think I was thinking a bit of Haruhi when I saw it too, like a few others here. Do wonder what this is going to be about, though. I never really was big on Key titles at first, but seeing the Clannad anime in its entirety has changed that. It may be something for me to check out.

Hmm... Kishi Seiji hasn't really directed anything I've watched (a few of those I haven't heard good things on, either...) Interesting that Hirata Katsuzou (of Hand Maid May and others) is character design and chief animation director. Of course, he's adapting Na-Ga's designs, so it really isn't his distinctive style in this case.

I've only seen one episode each of true tears and CANAAN, but the animation in both shows was definitely up to snuff. So I've got no problem with the choice of P.A. Works. The character designs and premise for Angel Beats have failed to impress me so far, and there are any number of things I'd rather see from KyoAni, so I'm glad Aniplex chose a different studio.

Subcontracted work on Darker than Black and Full Metal Alchemist > subcontracted work on Inuyasha
Because clearly Inuyasha is the only thing KyoAni has ever done.
Maeda is having a lot of difficulty coping with the length of the anime. However the parts that couldn’t make it into one season of 21 minute anime episodes aren’t going to be lost forever. Some of them will be written into the Angel Beats! novel [...]and it might be interesting to do them as a drama CD[...]
I have the feeling this is going to cost me quite a bit.

And you can rate the entire worth of a company by the presence or lack of speedlines in a one-off basketball episode in a non-basketball series. =P
It sounds like Maeda is playing a co-producer role of sorts here along with writing and composing. His involvement in this makes me more excited for this than I would be for any other show save an announcement for Little Busters! (which I'm hoping gets a surprise announcement after they finish airing Haruhi personally).

While I don't know if you want to know, the general premise is Yurippe is leading the Shinda Sekai Sensen (Afterlife War Front) to rebel against God while Tenshi is opposing them. Thus, the weapons.

I still want an anime of Root After and Another. Just to see if they can make it more ridiculous than H2O

Main cast is revealed on the official site (http://www.angelbeats.jp/cast/):
Otonashi: Kamiya Hiroshi
Yuri: Sakurai Harumi
Tenshi: Hanazawa Kana
Yui: Kitamura Eri
Looks pretty interesting. :)
To be honest, neither Kamiya Hiroshi or Sakurai Harumi register in my mind. However I can say the presence of Hanazawa Kana and Kitamura Eri pleases me. Definitely something to look forward to.

Kamiya is probably the biggest male va around atm, as Something said he is the lead character for Bakemonogatari and SZS. He's also been the lead for the two Natsume series, was Tieria in Gundam 00, Michael in Macross Frontier and is currently playing Izaya in Durarara!!. He won Best Lead Actor at the 3rd Annual Seiyuu Awards last year and Best Supporting Actor at the 2nd Annual Seiyuu Awards before that. As well as Otonashi in Angel Beats he has Zess in Break Blade (6 movies) to come, not to mention he'll have a lot of work left from the Bakemonogatari universe...
Harumi has mainly done eroge games and hentai titles so far, this is her first break as far as regular anime goes.

On the one hand Kamiya Hiroshi did Takemoto, who was my favorite character in Honey and Clover. On the other, he did Shinji and there was only one other character in F/SN I hated more than Shinji. But Takemoto > Shinji so I'll be slightly positive.
Sakurai Harumi voiced Saya (LB:EX!) so she's a pretty good pick. Hanazawa Kana was, of course, Nadeko, which heavily favors me joining the Tenshi faction (also, Mikan and Zange). That said, I think Harumi would make a better Tenshi, but she should also be fine as Yuri.

February kicks off with an illustration of Tenshi and Yuri (http://www.angelbeats.jp/illust/images/i09.jpg) by Asami Yuriko. I haven't personally heard of her, but I like her style.

The hair there reminds me of a particular image of Cocoon (http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/30811). The pose is familiar also but I can't immediately put my finger on it... actually it's in a number of his artworks like Chrysalis (http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/30807) and Ascoeur (http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/89161). Ah, but Manatsu (http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/14944) is the one I was thinking of.

When Kami-sama speaks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hnOSGimzdo&feature=player_embedded), I think we should listen. Even if we're not entirely fluent in Japanese.^^
It's a little late, but the latest illustration by Narumi Yu is kind of cute (http://www.angelbeats.jp/illust/images/i11.jpg). Granted, I'm biased since he is one of my favorite doujinshi artists (mostly D.C.II but he's done other stuff, including Little Busters!). Professionally, he was a character designer for 11Eyes and is the character designer for Windmill's new game.

So Angel Beats is about a sniper girl and a bunch of school kids trying to kill one indestructible girl? Not a real fan of Key so I'll probably not watch. Well Clannad was okay. Maybe a sample.

I really, really, really doubt that Clannad/Kanon/Air will be in any instructive of what to expect from Angel Beats. Whether or not you liked any of them (...isn't Clannad the only one you even watched any of?) will probably have no bearing on whether you like Angel Beats.

No. There's combat but you misunderstood what they are tying to do and why. I guess it helps if you understand (some) Japanese.

Here's hoping the final product will live up to the previews and info we've gotten so far. Simply because if it does then it should definitely be a solid Spring 10 series. Perhaps even a higher level favorite.

Definitely looks a lot darker than most people are expecting it to be, some really nice animated scenes in that new pv too. P.A Works have always had beautiful animation and now they get an Aniplex budget.

I guess most people haven't been following it closely? I perfectly understand most people don't buy Dengeki G's every month like I do, but there really wasn't anything in the trailer that we didn't know three four/months ago. I would have thought the information would have filtered down (it made it to Wikipedia anyway). Seeing it animated was nice though (CG might be an issue). And of course hearing Lia.

Well, crap. There's a third 'highly probably' for Spring '10. Well, OK- two 'Will Watch'es and now a 'Highly Probable'.

I'm expecting more of their trademark "shitty cg crowd" drek. Think we very briefly saw some in the trailer. Really, really hoping they grow out of that sooner rather than later, they're so good at everything else.

Totally agree with you there on Narumi Yu, except that this artist is female (at least she states so over at her blog (http://yaplog.jp/bunbukudou/)).
That said, next Angel Beats! collaboration illustration (http://www.angelbeats.jp/illust/) contributed by mebae (http://mebae.jugem.jp/) (Pixiv account for this artist (http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=43614)) this time around.
As for the PV - looks neat and I'm still pleased with how well Na-Ga art lends itself for anime porting. Also great to see Lia (who's just given birth to her baby earlier this year btw.) back with a theme song.

Sankaku, for once, did something useful and translated an interview with Maeda over on Akiba Blog about Angel Beats (NSFW) (http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/03/31/angel-beats-creator-key-founder-jun-maeda-interviewed/). It's a pretty interesting read. I think it's clear Maeda still suffers from the "cannot-stop-writing" problem that plagued him with Clannad. But we love him anyway.

Well, Sankaku's entire business model is based upon trolling its audience, making stuff up, and being as inflammatory as possible. But for some reason, companies like FUNi still advertise there.
Anyway, it's not about Sankaku. Read the interview! It's good.

And porn. You can't forget the porn. Actually, if Sankaku were just porn, it'd be an above average site of its type. Its the editorial content that kills it.
Kinda like ANN, now that I think about it.
Anyway, I'll read the interview once I get home, since Sankaku is, of course, Not Safe For Work.
